Exactly the point,,, Selling myself(My Reputation) my system and more importantly installing and properly following each manufacturers instructions whichever manufacturer they choose is way more important.

According to Harvard Business school data on home improvements; brands matter. But the local contractor matters more. Typically homeowners search contractors first and brands second. Furthermore a really good contractor can make the brand better. And the inverse is also true. A really bad contractor can hurt a really good brand. I have seen both. Distribution plays an important role as well, they can do the same. 23 years experience.

No offense, but experience doesn't mean much. I've seen 30 years vets that have been doing it wrong for 30 years.

If you think the brand matters so much tell them you are putting a different brand on there and then you really are and see if they notice.

@@JustNo8808 honesty matters too. No thanks. Like a DR you suggest the best options / treatments. Ultimately the homeowner can choose what they want. I typically won't install certain brands. They can get another contractor.

As a 40 yr contractor in Dallas market I can say from my experience that any of the brands will have problems occasionally but I will never sell another certainteed product. Our company has sold $1M plus per year thru Beacon Supply. Certainteed problems in my market proves to me what a problem product they are. In my career I’ve had to enter into legal action two times in 40 years. It is a crummy option but after doing everything in my power to engage them in making this right I’m in another lawsuit. One thing I can do is make sure I tell all my buddies in this same business what happened to me.

We really like IKO, we’ve had our first manufacture defect with a shingle/manufacture.
IKO Dynasty we installed about three months ago and is it big problem with a large section of the shingles, Grandular loss getting to the point that can be seen from the ground
IKO will be meeting me at the site this week so, I’m about to find out if the shingle manufacturer we chose was the right choice

I will never run IKO. Had to many bad shingles from them. To the point I had to unload 1/4 to 1/3 of the shingles off the roof because they were to defective to use. When you do this every other day for several months it gets old.
IKO said they would give me a $5 a square off coupon. They knew they were defective when I called. They purposely sent out defective shingles from their factory.

Malarkey's are the best shingles we got in Alaska because they don't blow off as often but their QC took a dip since the pandemic. Certainteed seem to last longer against sun damage but they delaminate and blow off easier. Owens Corning are cheap and decent but they have that annoying nail strip. IKOs are junk.

Well some of his comments are misleading.
Comment: "Survey says homeowners do not know what brand name shingle they put on their homes when they are leaving a convention".
Answer: Really? They certainly knew when they put the new roof on their homes and they did their homework at that point and asked us a million questions about the brand after they looked them up on line WHEN IT WAS IMPORTANT TO THEM. Do you expect them to remember that brand name at a later date? They don't live the roofing life like we do. It's similar to you and I remembering the name brand of a sofa we purchased last year. Of course we did our homework at THAT Time to make sure it's not a piece of crap. Are we going to remember a year later the name brand ? NOT A CHANCE!
Comment: "Homeowner does not ask a auto mechanic which brand name parts they are installing. They trust the mechanic".
Answer: Again, Really? It's a foregone conclusion that if you are getting your BMW worked on that they are using BMW parts. If they are not then they are not a very reputable mechanic. Regardless it's not a typical question a layperson would ever ask.
We tried going with a low priced shingle as a back up this year just to give the client an option. It failed. Stick to a great product and do a great job and be sincere with your client.
He seems nice enough but very obvious he has never pounded the pavement and had to convince a couple of young homeowners why your company and shingle product is the best fit for them.
Warranties???? Language disparities?? That's a whole other subject and best left to the connivers of the world. Do yourself a favor...JUST BE NICE AND DO A GOOD JOB AND YOU'LL ALWAYS STAY BUSY!
As usual Dmitry great content ! Blows my mind how much time you must spend on your mission. Goes without saying your dad must be very proud of you.

A good salesperson can hype up ANY product and sell it. I use Atlas and find it easy to sell for many reasons. I personally trust their product and I believe customers can see that in my presentation. They have features that the competition just cant compete with including the scotchguard protection and 1.5" nailing zone. They provide me with great marketing materials. At the end of the day, I feel safe installing it and don't worry about callbacks because of their product. However, any shingle will do its job if installed properly.
