I have installed thousands of squares of the old heritage crap for previous employers. I have hated TAMKO for years. They reached out recently. I’m heading down to Joplin Missouri tomorrow to meet with them. Have they changed anything with their warranty or tighten line since this published?
I’m a cat roofer when I’m not on a storm, in my home are I drive around and find large projects with Tamko shingles you can see them granular loss from the ground. I approach the owner and get them replaced under warranty, and replace them with the quality shingle. It’s a good side gig.
I made the switch from certainteed to DYNASTY 3 years ago. Started doing many certainteed tear offs with 10to 15 years old and failing. So I got off the bandwagon and joined not Cambridge but DYNASTY
Warranties on any brand of shingles aren’t worth the paper there written on. The best product should be supported but there isn’t one shingle company that will back up the claims they make when they fail.
So is it better to stay independent than jump through the hoops to become “certified” through shingle manufacturers? It would be hard to sell a manufacturer warranty when you know it’s a lie.
I suggest using products proven to last through the hurricanes so a hurricane void is less relevant. SWFL was devastated by Hurricane Ian. Euroshield ♻️ Rubber roofing shingles are the only roofing system I know of where all of their installs came through the Hurricane in perfect shape. One even had 2 palm trees bounce off of it & all the neighbors had blue tarps. That homeowner switched 8 of his disposable asphalt roofs to Euroshield now cash out of pocket because he experienced the difference.
Don’t know anything about Euroshield , but can tell you from the number of blue tarps ( still as of May 2023) that 5V Crimp and Standing Seam suffered no damage from Ian. Meanwhile, all those with shingle roofs are still waiting on roofers or estimates or their insurers. The metal roof people are just fine.
Don't forget the Tamko on top of enforcing an arbitration clause on their warranty, has a tendency to attempt to counter Sue homeowners and roofers add even suppliers, not to mention that their own insurance company is suing them for gross negligence and potential insurance fraud
This is an awesome public service. As investor owner I installed a Tamko roof, but this so pisses me off that Tamko’s warranty is so crappy!!! Also installed a GAF and Certainteed. Won’t be installing a Tamko ever again until they stop lying!!!
Dimitri, I support your stuff mostly but, Show me one manufacturer who doesn’t have this kind of crap in their warranties. They are all guilty of this. Obviously some products are better than others, but I’ve read a lot of warranties as a commercial roofing contractor service manager, and almost all of the fine print include these exclusions. Please show me one company who doesn’t have this in writing in their warranty.
That the point of this video. Read title. But don’t want to call out 8 manufacturers, decided to do one by one approach. But you are correct, most have gimmicks and we will continue to expose them
That's true, but TAMKO is at the bottom of the barrel and needs to be called out first and foremost. The only good thing about TAMKO is that they're really easy to cut when installing because they are so thin. Apart from that, they should go straight from the plant to a dumpster... And with that said, I have friends at a couple of local asphalt companies who get loads & loads of TAMKO shingles that are defective to recycle. I mean incredible amounts. I've been at this almost 20 years & I have never seen the issues I see in TAMKO products with any other manufacturer. They all have issues, but TAMKO takes the cake.
Want to see how weak shingles are in 160mph winds? Just go to Florida where Hurricane Ian hit. The standing seam metal roofs sustained no damage. The shingle roofs were all damaged. Metal roofs in harsh climates are far superior.
@@DavidSummerly yep, a properly installed 5V or Standing seam is good for at least 200 mph or more. No shingle roof is going to handle that. A quick look at Fort Myers area shows that 99% of the metals roofs sustained no damage from Ian. Why they’re still putting shingle roofs on Florida homes is beyond me.
They may be superior but at what price? In addition putting a metal roof on a house reduces the number of possible buyers for a house when it goes to market. Much of the existing homeowner group would never buy a metal roofed house for aesthetic reasons.
@@letsgobrandon5800 cost is a factor why shingles are still put on 90% of roofs vs metal in US. Insurance companies don t give homeowners a discount on their insurance for metal, so why spend money on an ugly metal roof.
@@ToddBizCoach you’re wrong. In many states, particularly those with hail or wind ( hurricane), a metal roof does give a discount. In addition, metal roof goes toward wind mitigation. I do get that cost is a factor, but in many cases, a 5V crimp is only about 20% more than comp shingle.
My insurance company paid for my new roof due to wind damage and my old roof was 20 years old.. The Atlas Pristine Shingles have been on 2 years and looks like they were just put on. And I did use your Directorii...and the contractor did a GREAT JOB
I really feel like you should have someone from the various manufacturers there in an interview to address some of your concerns. I sell a significant amount of TAMKO and there are a number of points that you've totally missed the mark on.
He didn't miss the mark on anything at all. I've been doing this for about 20 years now. I'm in Kansas, & TAMKO is everywhere here. These roofs look 30 years old within the first 5 years, and within 15 years they are completely done for. I've never seen the issues I see with TAMKO products from any other manufacturer. It’s interesting to see how opinions of brands differ just in the United States. Here in the Northeast, GAF and Owens Corning are huge (just like everywhere else, I imagine) but I don’t know if anybody in our region that installs TAMKO OR IKO. It seems their name was ruined with all of those class action lawsuits several years back. Great video!
FIRST OF ALL! Bottom of the barrel Is and always will be IKO Cambridge!!! I’ve never had an issue with TAMKO heritage. All the problems I see people complain about with TAMKO happen with just about all the other manufactures in a similar line of shingles
All the warranties from all of the manufactures are all the same, bottom line Titan XT is one of the best shingles if not the best IMO. He runs his channel on running down people, get a life!

Tamko XT I was told today is best of class 3 shingles. Ummm, what brand should I go with please for a split level house in Missouri?
The warranty he pulled up was the fiberglass shingle (3 tab) titan shingle is a lament shingle. Look at the top of the page 1:33 into video
I know, right?
No rating on the way it looks on the roof? Is that not important to the homeowners?
They all look the same
Would be interesting to review OC & GAF
Could you do a video on GAF golden pledge or the whole certified warranty's by GAF
Very useful info. Thanks.
