Yup, dude should go to prison for a few years over that. That was way beyond stupid. That was like telling the kids to sit on the car hood as you speed down the interstate.
Looks like they were doing it on purpose for the thrills. Reminds me once in Asia where I was in a charter boat that had everybody piled in the back, until in rough seas the boat started taking on too much water and the captain had to intervene. As seafarer Joseph Conrad would say, "ah youth!" (and stupidity).
That boat with the kids was hard to watch. Those are the situations that can go from fun to fatal in less than a second. Very poor judgement from the adults.
Round 3: This goes well beyond bordering on dumb; it’s outright dangerous! Curious to know if any violations have ever been issued as a result of your videos.
Sure has, the boat that threw trash over the side two trash cans worth. Go back a few months watch the video, stirred up a huge hornets nest of legal trouble for the family of the boat owner and his kid. His drone was right over head and his shore camera had close ups as well.
1:45 If a child falls off the bow and hits their head or sinks, that's it. Gone. This is not only negligence but parental abuse. The parents should be reported to Child and Family Services.
In my first boating course when I was 16 they showed a man with prop tracks up his back and body parts hanging out. That is what these people need to see!! Needless to say he didn't make it...
I was about Dealer for about 20 years, and have been a boater for 60 years. Whenever I sold an open bow I made sure that my customer was well schooled on the potential dangers of open bows.
For people unfamiliar with boats, those railings the kids are hanging on are not rated to be weight bearing. Each post has 3 bolts that are held on underneath by just washers and nuts. That "railing" is just a perimeter fence to warn you to be careful around the edge. That's why it's not waste high like a ship. In a nightmare scenario, the whole thing comes loose and you lose a handful of kids with no life jackets in heavy water with a 20 ton boat behind them and props at wide open throttle.
Been watching these vids for literally years, that said, I have never been more horrified by the actions of the captain of the “intrepid”. That was so wrong on so many levels. Criminally stoopid in mho😮
I worked at Baltimore Shock Trauma during my medical studies. The boating accidents were they most disgusting stuff, I have ever seen in my trauma career. What a stupid captain.
im a MD native and yeah thats with MD's strict boating laws... turns out FL just lets people do what ever PFDs are are only required on jetskis and kids under 12 its insane. FL also has no required safety classes like MD does
Indeed there are but they don't even enforce traffic laws in Miami. Boating laws are even lower on the totam pole even with three different jurisdictions enforcing them.
You should’ve called law enforcement and shown them this video before he had time to get away. Dude had no idea that he almost killed that boy. He didn’t even throttle back. I sure hope he sees this video.
*Boat #3* With that many kids hanging onto that skinny rail piece, all it would take is for one anchor point to fail and they'd all be in the water and possible impaled on the way in.
I have never said this, but the round 3 Intrepid should have the authorities called on them. He could easily get one of those killed. I don't want it for an in innocent kid, but something like that would haunt the captain forever.
In NJ Point Pleasant canal police would first get the kids off the bow and second make sure they all have on PFD. They patrol the canal constantly because it’s a no wake zone and very choppy waters
I have had a boat for many years (currently a 36' Wellcraft Monaco), not in Florida. I have taken safe boating courses from both Boat US and the USCG. On my vessel, it's MY boat and my rules, we don't cast off from the slip until people understand and agree. Alcohol for passengers is limited. 0 for the crew (Skipper (me)and 1st mate)). I designate the first mate. (Similar to agreeing to sit in the emergency row in an airliner) 1st mate is responsible to report to captain if anyone is becoming inebriated. Anyone does that, and I turn my vessel around, back to the dock and they ruined a nice day for everyone. Any non-swimmers wear a PFD, children wear a PFD. Everyone is shown where the throwable life ring is stowed. That may seem strict, but again, as Quint said in "Jaws" My vessel, my rules. The video of the cruiser with the children (no PFD's!! on the pulpit and bow!!!) makes me beyond angry - that was deadly! The girl a little farther aft has no PFD and is almost thrown out as well. This is stupidity and negligence. The "captain" needs to never be allowed to command anything larger than a canoe (and that is a stretch) WHY aren't idiots like this being ticketed and fined (at a minimum)??? Why? - PLEASE practice safe boating.
i dont get how USCG at the lest isnt stoping these people? just put some fresh guys out of training in small response boat at the bay side of the inlet and start stopping any one with no PDFs. fine FL law says its ok you want F around in the bay like what ever but you go out in ocean and then its USCG's problem id be stopping every one these people.
No one should ever be on/in the bow be it an adult or a kid Personally, I never let anyone ride on/in the bow of my boat which is a small 18' Thompson on inland lakes
In many countries ,it is illegal for passengers to bow ride, although I still see some morons doing it occasionally. If you fall off, you are usually turned into hamburger meat.
Wow. That was hard to watch. Someone needs to knock some sense into that guy. Every one of those kids was in danger. I'd be furious if some dad took my kid out with no life jacket, sitting on the bow like that.
Round 3... That kid not only "Almost went under the boat", but he almost met the anchor while sliding off the bow then to have the boat it self slam into him and run him over! 3 BAD HITS in a second or two time span... That kid almost died!!!!!
I was in the Coast Guard in the ‘80’s. At the end of my hitch I was working search and rescue on the Oregon coast. Unbelievable that boat operators are doing the same dumb unsafe $h1t they were doing 40 years ago. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Round 3 is horrifying; straight up child endangerment. It's only by the grace of God that the kid up front didn't go under the boat. I really hope that the authorities see this and cite that captain.
Those kids on the bow like that is illegal in Maryland in so many ways. Kids that small with no life jackets on when the boat is moving is one. Having their feet dangle over the bow like that is another. Kid falls out, gets hit by the boat before being sucked under and then they are chopped up by the props. Just going out with people in the front of a bow rider in that kind of water is stupid. Those kids riding like that is just insane.
I wouldn't even dream of going through the Haulover Inlet without wearing a life jacket. Too many things can go wrong. Since I was a child in the 50s and 60s, and going out on boats on occasion, I've always wondered why the rule was that you had to have enough life jackets for everyone onboard. Isn't that like making sure every seat in your car is equipped with a seat belt but you only need to buckle up when you see an impending accident? I guess somebody needs to make up the drowning statistics.
@@darkdelta Good question. Even if there were enough, those kids should *not* be sitting on the bow and should be wearing the jackets. Scrambling for life jackets at the last moment is counter-intuitive to an emergency situation.
0:54 was that F Boat Club vessel? I can’t believe that a responsible skipper would be so frogging stupid. He must HATE his kids or have them insured for the cost of new boat.

I would would wager most in these videos don't know port from starboard or what "red-right, returning" means, or WHOM has the right of way!! IMHO, NO one should be allowed to command a vessel larger than a canoe or ANYTHING powered or with sail without completing and passing a safe boating course. Nor should they be allowed to purchase insurance on their vessel.
I don’t get why people go out to open water for no reason. If you’re not fishing or leaving for another destination there’s no reason to just go into the ocean. As for some of the stupidity seen here, the captains should not be operating any vessel. Stupid is as stupid does.
I believe you witness such a obvious crime and not reporting it makes you an accessory to that crime. Of course we are talking child endangerment and could have been murder.
"Almost dumb"? Nothing 'almost' about it unless they hate those kids. This represents criminal negligence and stupidity.
Yup, dude should go to prison for a few years over that. That was way beyond stupid. That was like telling the kids to sit on the car hood as you speed down the interstate.
