Just a helpful tip for anyone having trouble flashing their bios, don't have anything plugged into the reset switch pins on the MB. It could cause the flash to not work properly. I spent like 5 hrs figuring out why my bios flash wouldn't take and that was 100% the problem. Just hoping i can save someone else the headache or the possible RMA of a MB that doesn't actually need it.
@@PcCentric Hello my friend. I am subscribed and I have one question. If you would please. My new build is with a Ryzen 7 And the Asus Tuff gaming 550 plus. Am I good to go ? Thank you Keith
Seriously, THANK YOU for this! I just finished e-filing my taxes and in three weeks I can buy the PC parts I need for my AMD Linux/Windows build. I was wondering how difficult it would be to update the motherboard's BIOS when the CPU and other items aren't in place. Your instructions were VERY easy to follow and you even showed two motherboards that I was considering. Thanks again!
The supplier of your motherboard should also be able to flash the BIOS for you if you do not have the CPU / USB drive required for this. You may need to use the RMA (returns) process to get this though, or could ask the supplier to do it at point of sale so that it is sent to you with a flashed BIOS. Also, I have an optical drive to watch blu rays and DVDs as well as to write backup disks. They still have their use.
I recently built my gaming pc for the first time ever (i usually buy prebuilts) and it was all thanks to your content, keep doing what youre doing, love your work and banter 🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀💎👐
I just built mine the other day with the B550 tomahawk, did some troubleshooting then finally realized this problem. Good thing it had a flash button too. The video came a little late and could have been a more specific title to help people who would be googling this issue.
Great info and silly commentary. I am in the process of building a game rig ( I’m buying the components on Amazon as money affords me in between bills/house payment/groceries) with this exact processor and msi mag b550 mortar with a bios flash back so this is a great confidence booster as I was kind of worried about that part. Thanks a ton, by far one of the top pc info building guides on TH-cam and great personality! Keep it up mate!
I had to find this out the hard way. I actually started buying my PC parts about five months ago and the motherboard was the first part I bought. I was lucky enough to get a 5000 series cpu and a 6800 XT but it took me a couple days to figure out the problem. Eventually I took it to Micro Center because I didn’t wanna bother my friends to take apart their computer to flash the bios with a compatible CPU. But all in all I’m happy I built my first computer had to take it apart completely and then build it again.
Thanks for this video,I’ll be building my first pc when I can purchase a 5600x and a 3060 and this was the part I was really nervous about,I was really hoping there would be new motherboard that were 5000 series ready. But this video made it seem really simple, let’s hope it is when I go to do it 😂
Literally staring at a pile of new pc parts about to start building and I see your new video showcasing my same board! Thanks for making it super easy!
Another issue with AMD boards, that apparently has been on older gens as well, is that they have a tendency to short out USB channels randomly, and some fixes even include going from gen 4 to gen 3 on your GPU. AMD, Asus, Gigabyte and others are avoiding the issue, but a fix might be coming with the new bios /AGESA update?
To anyone having issues with the MB not reading the usb while trying Qflash, make sure you use a usb 2.0 and not 3.0 I have heard alot of people having issues with the MB not picking up the usb 3.0 for some reason. Alot of people said this has been an issue for gigabyte aorus MB, but I am not 100 percent on that.
Thank you so much for this info. I am building my first ever PC and while i do remember hearing about the need to flash bios to recognize new AMD chips, i did not know how to really do that step by step such as ensuring the USB is Fat32, etc. Thank you sooo much for putting together this step by step guide. It was really helpful and i now have my USB stick ready!
If you're someone who wants to store something like family photos/video, or important files then a archival grade DVD is a great option. Won't go bad like a HD and last longer then a SSD. So yes even with all this tech now a days still gotta keep around the optical drive.
you have no idea how worried and delighted at the same time I was to see the motherboard currently sitting next to me on ur desk and then even more delighted to see you pick it up and use it as an example

B550 unofficially supports zen and zen+ processors with the ram speed limit 3200-3333MHz. You can put your older Ryzen on new B550 mobo and update BIOS with that
Just completed building mu Ryzen powered PC 2 days ago, my First after 12 Years. TH-cam should have recommended this video much earlier as i was stuck with the BIOS problem for a night. Now its all up and running.
I had this exact issue. Built a rig and no signal came onto the screen even though rig had power. Had a Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X motherboard with old BIOS and the new Intel 13700k CPU. Used another computer to create the boot USB, fat32 format, renamed file to GIGABYTE.bin, plugged into the BIOS USB, pressed the Q flash button on motherboard, let it run completely and then everything worked

I'm truly amazed that my 17+ year old 550 Watt Cooler Master PSU still works (at the time of posting), powering an overclocked i7 processor, 1660 Ti graphics card, 32 gigs of ram, 4 SSDs, and a pretty decent MSI motherboard. That made me start looking at videos like this
I had to do this when I bought a used asus 350 board that didn't have the bios to support the 22g. I was luckily updating my 1200 so I just used it to update via the internet because it has the function to do it in the bios. Every mobo manufacturer should do this
If you live in the us, you can just go to a micro center or something and it costs 30 bucks, I think that gives you a lot more selection for motherboards
This man is very under rated! I suggest supporting him by subscribing and liking the video and if you feel so inclined, recommend him to a friend as well.
Motherboards run on 12v, 5v and 3.3v. No danger touching the motherboard when it's connected to the PSU, as long as the PSU is not faulty and is earthed properly.
Turning the computer on again after disconnecting the cord from the power supply will sort out any little remaining power that might be stored in the power supply discharges. Great videos by the way 👍
As surprising as it sounds, there are still some people who rock an optical drive, because they need it for various stuff like: watching Blue ray movies, or burning family videos to discs. In our family there are 3 PCs and two of them has optical drives.
I would like to add my experience with BIOs flashback on a MSI motherboard... did exactly what was explained in the video, flash drive formatted to FAT32, file named correctly, plugged in flash drive, hit flash, and only got a briefly flashing red light. The only solution is try a different flash drive. Some motherboards are picky, I bought the basic $5 SanDisk cruzer glide from Walmart and it worked, after 3 hours of frustration and anxiety.

Took me WAY too long to figure out that I needed to flash the bios. As soon as I did that, everything worked like a charm. Will never make that mistake again lol
This is the only source I can find on the internet that advises flashing the bios of the X570 with a ryzen 5 3600! All other sources suggest the X570 doesn't need a BIOS update with the ryzen 5. Confusion reigns.
