    Man I just found you and I love your videos. I knew that's what was causing the ticking but to actually see you tear it apart and show us is really cool. I've heard many pentastars with this tick including mine. I actually had a dodge avenger before this that had a milder tick. But I imagine it's that same valve in just about 70% of em. Maybe they don't get enough oil bc of the engine design or something idk. But like I said I've heard quite a few 3.6l with that tick.

    For the love of Christ, 6 shop rags in the intake manifold ports, before you drop a bolt down one of them. If your going to pull the lower intake manifold for oil canister repair, then 6 shop rags in the head intake ports as well.

So yes, that does not look good on video and you should def cover up those ports. Never had a problem or anything fall down in there and theres no reason to keep risking that.. Good call but theres more material on this video worth mentioning dude.

    Question from a newbie. Isn’t it a good idea to also change the lifter on the failed rocker arm? Reason I say this is there may be a blockage in the lifter itself and maybe lead to the failed rocker arm.
    I’m about to do this job on my wife’s 2016 T&C van. I’ll change all the rocker arms and lifters on this 98,000 mile engine. Just to make sure I won’t do this job again in 6 months for another failed rocker.

I do have a few questions though. What size sockets did you use for the crank shaft and oil control valve? Did you replace anything else while doing this job, i.e. valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, pcv valve? Any other recommendations? Thanks

    • @OnlineMechanicTips

    • @jtugfestiva
      @jtugfestiva 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have. The car that I did that on had a tick and ate a little bit of the cam shaft. I don’t have timing tools or the time so I just went ahead with the rocker arm. I know that it will eat up the rocker arms so I went ahead and added bestline lubricant to the oil. Mileage of the car was 140000 we are now at 240000 and still no tick. Add bestline and some fully synthetic oil and I think you should be good.

      @@OnlineMechanicTips Thanks for the reply! Great answer. I think I’ll order the tools and do it the right way. I haven’t got in there just yet but I think I’m going to need a camshaft anyway so will be pulling phasers. It’s making a dull thud right after the tick. You mentioned that if it makes a thud it will likely need a camshaft. No CEL or misfires and still runs smooth. The tick is very obvious though. @OnlineMechanicTips  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pnorton75 Thanks bud. Sure a collapsed lifter will cause a noise, but a rocker arm will also, in fact, so will a cam phaser. (depends on the noise). I dont see any reason one would replace a camshaft because of a failed lifter. One of the coming apart rocker arms likely got by them. There are certain ways to check that and a dealer tech should know all of such ways. To me, none of this matter, seems you should have the option to return the van and get it rechecked because basically, you still have the same problem. Wow, this crazy. You should not be hearing a ticking noise after a ticking repair has just been done.
