I think Jay Z was absolutely right in what he said, but I will say it has more to do with them never giving the big 3 awards to Black women. Last black woman to win album of the year was Lauryn Hill in 1999 I think.
I definitely agree… lemonade was way too iconic to not have won! Renaissance was incredible too! But the Grammys are making weird choices across the board for years where they nominate people over and over and it’s what they’re famous for but they have never won an award in that category ever! Cuz even Miley and Lana having never won! And then Taylor is a songwriter. That’s her category! She’s been nominated in that category more than anyone ever has and has never won. I agree with most that midnights wasn’t as worthy this year compared to SZA! But Beyoncé will always be the queen, no matter the Grammys!

agreed, like while yes bey is the most awarded artist most of them come from categories with predominantly other black artist nominated, its as if the Grammys are saying "you're the best among black artist but you don't surpass the white ones" like they don't deem her music or sound as on par with the white artists, but even if you put that aside I think the Grammys predominantly vote to pop albums for aoty like I can't think in the last 10 years of an aoty winner that wasn't a pop album

Great review, to the Jay Z point, yes he highlighted Bey but its a bigger picture. AOTY is considered the "most prestigious" of all the awards and yet they have only ever had 3 women of colour win it. How can these women be thriving and making history in soo many of the other categories still not win the most prestigious, it just doesn't add up. Nothing against Taylor, its just an obvious pattern that at this point embarrassing for the Grammys.
The album as a whole didn't deserve it tho.

Jay-z only said what the grammys have deserved to hear for a long time now. The fact that they create side categories and even a whole other award show -the latin grammys- just to get away with not giving latin People their main televised categories already speaks for itself. And i think it made complete when he said that by THEIR OWN METRICS it doesn't make sense that Beyoncé has never won AOTY given that she is the most grammy rewarded artist, she was nominated for her self-titled album in 2015 but didn't win even tough that album and the way she released it impacted the music industry so heavily that year, now do you remember who won? Me neither. Also lemonade and renaissance absolutely deserved
beyonce's album are perfect but not for AOTY. Bear that in mind

The grammys are like oscars some people get robbed because the labels will push for one artist to win and neglect the others. It's more about influencing the voters I think than doing good work, being groundbreaking or a cultural phenomenon.
i commented this before and i will say it again, listen to “the record” by boygenius! (if you can film a reaction, even better haha) the album is FANTASTIC 💗 pure queer joy and it’s so deep and beautiful!

Apparently a voter of the Grammys said that Midnights is a weak album but he voted for it because he has never taken Lana Del Rey seriously as an artist since her infamous performance on the SNL and that he will never vote for her on the bench.

I would love to see your reaction to boygenius's album, the record is really amazing expecially knowing it's 3 queer women, i'm so proud of them! Their EP are amaaaaazing too (the 1st one is my favourite EP ever)
Loved the opening bit, stans do take it to far with the grammys. At the end of they day, The Academy are voting on what they liked and music is at the end if the day completely subjective so I'd say its an honour to even be nominated alongside so many amazing people and their work. It's about the journey at the end of the day, not the destination. I think that's the attitude people like Britney and Taylor have always had and it's why they always seem so shocked and overwhelmed when they win

sza is one of my fav artists, her album ctrl is my fav album of all time you would LIVE. SOS went in a different direction but it still eats, i know you would love either album, but if you wanted to react to either I would say SOS because the deluxe comes out soon and it is basically a whole new album (20 tracks) and from the songs she has performed from, what it seems it's going to be giving more ctrl vibes so you could get the best of both worlds with those reactions. you also dont have to react obviously i know u dont do that very often anymore but i have a feeling she is gonna become one of ur favs too🤭

I'm not saying they haven't worked hard for it, but like ranting about other artists who are nominated not being deserving when that might be the height of their whole career is really poor form when you're literally two of the most critically and commercially successful artists of all time ...
