  • In this video I detal how to remove the stock 510 diff and u-joints and replace them with an R180 LSD from a Subaru STI, as well as an axle kit from Wolfcreek racing/Futofab. This conversion is made possible by Techno Toy Tuning 27-spline adaptor stub axles which matches up to the Subaru differential while maintaining the Datsun bolt pattern.

Awesome vid Timmy. The holes for wire ties on the coupling bolts is why I like WC racing's axles better than TE racing's. I have Troy's setup in my car and I have to re-torque them every few months. Total PITA.

Surely you can find the right blots for that any body know if the New Troy Axles (MKII ) any better ?

use a "thread-file" to repair damaged threads

Being no loctite was used on the cap screws and I'm sure those threads got greasy I would safety wire those ASAP!! Because they will come loose.

I can't justify spending $500 for some stub axles when you spend 500 on the differential. A lot of guys are now going to the Super 8.8 differential. You can get a 8.8 limited slip differential for like 350 bucks. Then it will drive like a modern car versus taking the chances of the r180 bearings taking a dump. The only way I can get an r180 to live in my 240z is to weld it and every 7 to 12k miles I have to pull it out and put fresh bearings in it.

How did you attatch the driveline to the subaru diff? Do they make an adapter for that too? Or do you need to fabricate a new one using parts from the factory driveline and the subaru one?

I'm going to get a new driveshaft from the driveshaft shop that will mount to the subaru diff and the sr20 engine. You can also just use your input flange from the stock datsun differential and it will mount to the driveshaft

Why bother with the r180 Subaru diff are rubbish. Get a long nose R200 from a Nissan s12 or skyline DR30 fj20et so many of them in Japan, but I’m in Australia and buy a lot of Nissan old school car parts even have a couple of cars in waiting to see the road again

Pretty sure its 2004, hard to tell though. Subaru started making LSD in 2004 so its between 04-11

      2004-05 has a CLSD with 3.90 ratios. 2006-08 has a Helix/Torsen LSD or CLSD with a 3.54 ratio. 2009 and up have Helix/Torsen LSD with 3.90 ratio.

wow that bar makes no sense at all there is more than enough material that they could have threaded so as not to have through bolts... Yet another reason why I will be making my own on my mill.....

I thought that also ... they use locknuts but the bolts don't look long enough . hopefully they fixed it buy supplying longer ones ... (or it might not have been torqued down completely )
