I have a new Camero Pro, I was having trouble with cutting. It would cut huge chunks and I had no idea what was wrong. I was ready to give up this whole crafting thing. Then I found your video, YAY you were the only one that addressed my problem. Thank you.
Great information, I get very frustrated and walk away, to many videos with different way for everyone and it’s frustrating. Now that I found your videos I’m back on board again and learning as much as I can from you.. .thanks again
I just found a fix for the problem I was having and wanted to share. I have a design where I needed to go into the LINE action instead of SIMPLE so that only one color would cut. What I didn't realize what that the setting for THAT SPECIFIC COLOR was set to a different material that I was using. I changed the material for that color to the correct one, and it fixed my issue. It was kind of a duh moment, but I just wanted to save anyone else from this insanity-inducing issue. Thanks for your video!
OMG I am so glad I ran into this video... I have been having problems with cutting issues, I am about to try your method now.. I'll be back with some more feed back.
Thank you, elly mae. I like the way you go through detailed instructions. It helps a lot especially since everyone I know uses a cricut & in my brain I have to reconfigure what they’re doing into tge silhouette
Ellie, is there a way to remove the cover on the manual blade? I cannot find the little white tool with the holes that would fit over. It has a pink cap. Thank you
@@jackiemarassa5929 It can be removed in the same way as all the other blades. If you don't have the tool, then carefully with a pair of pliers, but do not damage the edges of the cap or it can cause cut issues and sharp plastic edges.
@@SilhouetteSecrets thanks, do you know if there is anywhere to purchase that little tool? Thanks you again for your help, you have made me love my silhouette again.
Thank you! Double-checked that I'd done all the other troubleshooting. I'm going to have to try my cutting strip next. It LOOKS fine but I have used my machine a LOT over the past four years. Hoping it helps. :)
Thank you so much, I'm going to pull out my silhouette again, I got so frustrated with it, I gave up on it. Going to follow this and see if I can get it to work properly.
Thank you for this. I’m a new user and tried to make some projects today but was having cutting issues. I ended up shutting off my machine and walking away so definitely related to your comment about being frustrated. I didn’t realize the blade cap came off. Will check that out as well as do a blade reset. Hoping that works😀 I’m also going to pick up some extra blades. The analogy of the scissors totally makes sense.
Bring a new cameo 4 owner, visual learner, disability among other things this was an essential troubleshooting tool. I would love a copy of your printable Thank you for taking the time out to explain
OMG, thank you for this video and me finding it as today I had and issue of when the carriage came back from right to left, the right corner of the paper got screwed up. I'll bet that is why, something in the blade. I shall have to do this inspection now.
This also just happened yto me. I got so frustrated and took it out on my husband. I feel calmer now so going to try in the morning. I always leave problems alone for a while or overnight.

Hi Wondering if you can help. I cut a lot of vinyl decals for using to custom spray paint helmets etc and i use a silhouette studio 3 and DE Tape Flexible Surfaces Stencil Film but at the moment i use the settings blade depth 1 force 10 speed 5, but a lot of the text etc are very small and i keep finding it tears them up i keep trying different settings but can't find one that doesn't ruin the decal. i'm not sure what way to go with the settings depending on what is happening. hope this makes some sense?
I would start with a new blade.... I use blade depth 2, force 5, speed 5... but that doesn't work for all users. Each machine, vinyl, blade life, etc. can affect the cut settings being used. Some users also have good results with the Overcut option, however, I do not - but it's something you could try... silhouette-secrets.com/2019/12/23/lets-explore-v4-overcut/
Alignment tool? Do you mean the little white blade adjustment tool? Silhouette America did have that option available prior to their website update - right now all I see is a rocket ship in the thumbnail image, so I have no idea as they are still in the process of updating. www.silhouetteamerica.com/adjustment-tool-type-b
@@SilhouetteSecrets Thanks for your fast response. Yes, I meant the white adjustment tool. FYI, I did find a maker on Etsy that makes them Cameo 3 and 4. Plus they're yellow, so they're harder to lose!! Thanks again for your videos, my hobby is helping me keep my blood pressure down 🙂.
Thank you so much for this very informative video. I really like the separate blades for each type of material. I am guessing that you just use a marker to write on it. To be clear, you use your sharper blade for the vinyl and move it down to the paper? I have had silhouette, i think, from the beginning...i used to use the quick kutz for everything,...now i have the megaton binders of them...lol I love my silhouette...Thanks again for sharing. one question: i don't think i have that little wrench thing. is there a way to purchase that? thanks again. Yes, I just use a marker to label because I'm lazy. Some will make labels and add it that way or stickers. I do start a new blade as a vinyl blade and as it gets dull (usually takes a long while), then I move it to a cardstock or other blade type. Hello, how can i fix my cameo 4, when cutting, the blade will like jumping resulting to not proper cut or not exactly cut according to the design o letter cut. Thank you
I have had my cameo 3 for a few years and use it a lot. I have noticed that the blade holder for tool 1 spring seems as if it is weak blade not cutting as deep as before so I have to extend the blade further out to get the job done , any suggestions on how or where to get it fix? Thanks,
There is no repair or fix to replace the housing. Over time and with use, it's just wear and tear. However, have you ever replaced the cutting strip? That may help.... here is more information on that. silhouette-secrets.com/cutting-strip/
Will this benefit helpful cut issues with rhinestones? When the machine sporadically cuts ovals instead of circles? I try to always clean my blade and it has happened with a new blade.
Are you using a Cameo 4 model? The oval vs circle issue is a known issue.... if it is happening sporadically, then it's usually due to too high of cut settings. Try decreasing the settings and doing multiple passes. It will also be more noticeable the smaller you go... so a 6 SS will be more Oval than a 10 SS.... if it's happening randomly for you. In my testing, while the ovals aren't appealing, the stones still fall into place on the 10 SS size. However, if you are producing templates for sale, it is not ideal.
Hello, I have Silhouette Cameo 4. In carriage 2 I have a slight gap, is it supposed to have a gap. It doesn't cut using carriage 2, always defaults back to carriage 1. Is there something I am doing wrong?
Did you click on the design to select it, then choose No Cut under Tool 1. Bold red cut lines should turn off. Then open Tool 2 and choose Cut and bold blue Cut lines should turn on. What Tool are you trying to use in Tool 2?
Thank you greatly for what you do. I was sent by someone who really loves your tutorials. And now I'm in love. You explain so well. I was sent because before I got help, I tried to do it on my own. But I calibrate my machine several times in 3 days. I was wondering do I need to reset my whole machine back factory default?
So glad it helps! First, calibration is rarely needed and only used for specific print and cut issues. Can you tell me exactly what issue you are having?
How do you get the cameo 4 to cut vinyl where you applied it to the mat? I thought if it was located on the upper left-hand corner on the computer and upper left-hand corner on the mat, it would cut in that spot but that’s not what’s happening. Any suggestions?

Hi, thank you for your helpfull tips. I did the re-alignment as per the above video. But when I test cut the red line does not meve. It stays at 0 no matter what setting I choose. It is a new blade. Should I get a new one?
I would watch it closely and see why it doesn't move. Is it hitting the adjustment holes properly? If you set it manually by carefully pressing the bottom of the blade, does it adjust? Set it manually yourself and then tell the software on the Send tab to use a Manual blade (ratchet) and does it cut? If so, you couod continue to use it like a manual blade but I would get another blade too.

What direction is the black arrow pointed at on your Silhouette software? The black arrow is always the top of the cutting mat, no matter what direction it points on the screen. This is generally why it would not start cutting in the correct location. Make sure the black arrow is pointed up on the screen and then does the machine start cutting in the top left corner?

Hi, I have a Cameo 4, I've used maybe 10 times, the bar isnt raising on the left side so when I feed the mat it isnt under the roller on the left and when the vinyl is fed it goes wonky because theres no pressure on that side. Is there a way for me to correct this? Thank you!
The bar on the left is stationary and does not lift on any Silhouette model. You should not have to raise the bar at all to load a mat. The only reason the roller bar should be unlocked is to slide the right roller and reposition it depending on whether using a cutting mat or cutting matless. To load the machine, make sure the right roller is locked in the correct location so it rolls on the edge of the cutting mat. Then hold the mat up to the rollers and push the load button. The machine will pull the cutting mat in the correct distance. Make sure that a mat is selected on the Page Setup Panel so the machine knows you are using a mat and to pull it in that correct distance to begin cutting.
Hi! I've got Cameo 4 and I'm using Silhouette with my stickers. The cut is always off, it makes the art shifts to the right after cutting, it's not way off but it makes the design look bad. The virtual designs in Silhouette look fine, the art and trace lines are all well aligned. I've tried the housing reset, I positioned the mat properly, when the mat loaded the housing of tool 1 lined up directly behind the left roller, the blade works fine. I also make sure to properly set the page & paper - also using and printing the default registration marks. I couldn't find out what is wrong with it. :(

This is a great video. My machine is brand new, just out of the box. I have a Cameo 3 and have finally purchased the Cameo 4 Plus as my Christmas present. I have done everything in the video except inspect the blade since the blade is brand new. No matter how many times I have tried moving the carriage to reset it, the cut is still not correct. It does seem to have become a bit better. It is beginning the cut too far to the right which results in the material on the right side of the mat being but outside the cut lines. It was a little hard to see in the video exactly how Tool 1 lines up behind the roller, so I am not sure if mine looks correct. What seems strange to me is that even though it is correct in my Silhouette software on the virtual mat, it's like it cuts just the opposite. I am not mirroring it. But I am about to pull my hair out!!!! I would be very grateful for any help you can offer me. I have tried reaching out to Swing Design and Silhouette America. Swing Design instructed me to reset the carriage. I can't get a response from Silhouette America
I would also inspect the blade, even though it is new. The housing should line up exactly even behind the left roller when it is in alignment. If you are using a Cameo Plus cutting mat, look at the top of the cutting mat on the left and right sides. There are two notches on either side. That is cuttable space. Is that where you design is cutting? Your material can go there and the software thinks it is there. If you are cutting HTV, make sure you are right clicking on it and choose Flip > Horizontal and then choose Send As Is when you are asked on the Send tab. This means it will cut where it's located on the screen. This explains more - silhouette-secrets.com/2021/05/19/lets-explore-v4-mirrored-htv-not-cutting-right/ I'm including it since you did not say what material you are cutting but mentioned that it was mirroring it.

That's helpful information but, unfortunately I have a different issue and I cannot find an answer. I'm using my cameo 4 pro, for the first time, and I'm trying to cut an oval 23" wide and 57" long. The vinyl is loaded and feeds fine BUT, the machine starts cutting the oval from the wrong end. It doesn't feed the vinyl through and work backwards, it's literally cutting the alignment marks, I added, and then starts from the end, not the beginning. I have the settings at no mat, custom size 24" wife and 60" long and constrain media to cutting mat unchecked. When I s end it to cut, it shows the entire project with the arrow, for feed, at the top. HELP...
On the Send tab, click on the gear icon in the bottom right corner and there are several options that you can change how the cut is performed. However, a long cut like that, it may not make any difference. It will do the cut the way it thinks it should according to those settings and has to complete a cut line before it can move to the next line. Then it moves to the next closest point to start the next cut line and continues in that manner according to how it's set under that gear icon - minimize roller movement, etc. You could also try rotating the entire design so the registration marks are opposite of where they are currently and see if that solves the issue of where it begins cutting.
@@SilhouetteSecrets I clicked on it the wheel and all seems to be set “properly”. I don’t care which way it cuts but when it starts cutting the bottom of the design at the beginning, that’s not right. If I could post a pic on here I’d show it
@@allendeneau1204 I saw your photos on the Facebook group. It looks like it is cutting exactly as it should.... it is starting at the opposite end to minimize roller movement. Since it has to return to the start point after it's cut (default), it is starting at the farthest point and moving toward you so at the finish it has the shortest distance to travel to point of origin. You can try changing the Feed option under that same gear icon so that it feeds out the backside after the cut and it should start at the top and move the other direction.
@@SilhouetteSecrets gotcha. I’ll take a look. I just posted a few more pics. I had to walk away from it as to keep from shooting it then throwing it out the window and then running the mower over it 😉. I added a pic of the gear icon settings

What happens when my Cameo 4 doesn't cut through the points in a line. The blade lifts up at every point and doesn't cut the paper there, like it is perforated and it makes it quite difficult to remove my object neatly. It does it even if I set overcut. It didn't do it before.
@@SilhouetteSecrets I am using a 160 g textured paper. I made a setting that works the best for it for me. (Blade depth 4, force 30, speed 3, and a 0.20 overcut.) But when I trying to cut a star for example, the machine skips all the point of the star. Oh, and thank you so much for replying!
@n3m1g3n4 as a test - draw a star in Silhouette using the Flexishapes or if you don't have that upgrade, use a polygon tool on the left side to create a similar shape. Cut from smooth cardstock and does it complete the cuts? If yes, then it's something with the file and/or material.

Thank you for your help! :)
@@savannahbrown570 the most common reasons for that are the setup, the roller not locked in correctly, the blade not installed correctly, cut settings are too deep, not enough space behind the machine, or the material is hanging down in front or behind the machine. Most times it is something in the setup that needs corrected.
Here's an interesting problem that started last night: When I send my file to be cut on my Cameo 4+, having the mat/media already loaded, the machine draws the mat through all the way to the end, sends it back out, and then sucks it back through again. It does it repeatedly. But then it cuts the file without a hiccup. I use my Cameos almost daily for the last 6+ years and have never seen this. Any idea?
Are you cutting Acetate or have it set to acetate? That is a feature called "track enhancing," and it's in some material settings. If you click on the More button on the Send tab, you'll see it checked.... most likely.
@@SilhouetteSecrets you want to hear something extremely weird? I have selected that on every single cut I make! And it's never done this once in the 6+ years I've used the Cameo. LOL. I bought my Cameo 3 on St Patty's day 2017 and my Cameo 4 Plus during Covid 2020. I have always been under the assumption the "track enhancing" was the laser helping track the media. Without seeing actual photos, I can only guess at the most common reasons 1. Is the mat loaded properly with the left edge next to the load line? 2. Is the right roller locked securely? This will vary my machine model. Without knowing the actual model, I don't have enough information. 3. Is the roller bar lever locked? 4. Is the mat hitting something behind the machine? 5. Are the cut settings too high? There could be a single factor or several that are contributing.
Your videos are so helpful, I was wondering if you could help me with a specific issue. I have spent countless hours researching a solution plus contacting silhouette MULTIPLE times and I am losing my mind. I have been using silhouette for around 6 years and 2 years ago I purchased a cameo 4 as an upgrade. All was working smoothly until I added the business software. This could be irony but I can not fix my problem. The housing unit grind all the way to the right and will not move back to the left. I have tried resetting the housing unit, uninstalling the software, you name it. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
The issue you are referring to has nothing to do with installing the Business Edition upgrade. It is something that can just randomly occur and was pure coincidence that it occurred around the time you applied the upgrade. You can test this by unplugging the machine and turning it on. Does it still occur? In most cases, what you describe is a broken crash stop sensor and there is nothing a user can do to fix it. Here is more information silhouetteamerica.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/35000210333-cameo-carriage-moves-to-wrong-position-on-startup If your machine is still under warranty, I would contact Silhouette support with a video showing the behavior and then get started with that. They can also do repairs if it's out of warranty and that is on a case-by-case basis.
What does one do when the printer and Silhouette Cameo do not line up? It prints below the page for the registration marks but if I cut it the lines cut like it should, just not on the pictures. It starts below the picture by about half an inch and will cut right off the end of the mat. I'm worried that if I shorten it that it will shorten the cut and the print and still be off. I've checked and used every tutorial I can find and it doesn't fix it. Then I thought I would do a calibration to fix it but it didn't cut it at all. Not a single cross. I tested the blade in the third part of the calibration and it made nice cuts, but the first two tests for calibration didn't cut. I checked my blade and have even cut out things perfectly since the calibration failed.
Usually that means it's something in the setup of the print and cut. Something doesn't match and it could be something small. Try a test print and cut with only 1 object on the page and print on copy paper or cardstock. Make sure everything matches exactly to what you are doing and use all the defaults. Does it cut accurately? If so, them set up the design the same exact way and try a test..... silhouette-secrets.com/2020/01/28/lets-explore-v4-print-cut-basics/
@@SilhouetteSecrets I was curious if it was just a design from a maker or the machine. I sent just registration marks to the printer and the registration mark at the bottom fell off the page. I had everything set to letter. Then I saw someone say that it could be the calibration, so I printed off the calibration print and lined it up perfectly. I used a flashlight and made sure it was visible with no shadows. The darn thing wouldn't cut. Had I messed up the blade? Nope. I canceled the calibration and tried cutting a plain cut file and it worked perfectly. I've followed tutorials until I can't stand the thought of seeing one more and none of them are working. I will get one direction, hit pause and check the machine marks and the computer marks, I even recalibrated my printer. I printed something and it was long because when I cut it on a plain cardstock it cut shorter and the registration mark was off the page. I'm almost out of hair to rip out. I'm out of color ink now. It was brand new. I started with a healthy stock of 150 pieces of white cardstock and have about 2/3 left. I don't mind doing things over a few times to learn, but this is beyond a few times.
@@abilitycrafting864 the mark needs to print completely on the page in order to cut right. If it's not then there is something wrong, either in the setup or in the printer not feeding the cardstock through properly. Have you tested it on copy paper? Not all printers can feed cardstock correctly. The marks should print exactly as they show on the screen, in the exact margins from left to right and top to bottom. If the bottom registration mark is "falling off the page", that won't work and something is wrong.
@@abilitycrafting864 as a note, calibration is rarely needed and most who suggest that as an answer don't really know how it works or don't want to spend the time troubleshooting with you. It's just something they toss out as a solution cause they think it sounds good. In 9 years and 8 different model Silhouette machines, I've never had to calibrate. Try a test on copy paper, how does it print?
@@SilhouetteSecrets Off the end of the paper. No matter if I only print registration lines without a picture, it goes to the same place and is long, so it can't be related to a specific file or person's error in making an SVG. I checked that everything is correct, standard mat, letter size paper in printer and machine, default settings for the blade and it is in correctly according to twenty different videos with no gaps and turned correctly. Like I said, it will cut fine on just a regular cut. It's in the printing that it messes up.
When I print from my canon printer and cut the file the cuts are always off but when I print from my HP the cut are perfect. What do you think is causing this with the canon. Is it the settings in the canon printer? I cant figure it out. I am beyond frustrated.
Has anyone had issues with the silhouette cameo 4 plus not cutting the balsa wood?? Mine is like it gets stuck and just makes tiny tiny sporadic cuts and never cuts my actual file.
Balsa is iffy and you will spend more time, materials, and wasted cuss words trying to get it to cut than it's worth. The blade will just continue to get stuck in the balsa wood.

@@amanda-jones So you selected Acetate on the setting - then that is why. There is a built in setting on the preset for Acetate that is called Track Enhancement. It rolls the materials back and forth prior to the cut. Click on the More button and then uncheck Track Enhancement.
That either means your housing is out of alignment, the material is loaded incorrectly, it's the 1/4" on the left or right side when cutting matless that the rollers need to grip the material, or using a 3rd party cutting mat and it's not the same dimensions in the margins as a Silhouette mat.
My issue is my cameo 4 makes random cut lines through my design or words…So when I go to weed,it’s taking out pieces that shouldn’t be coming out..just straight lines going from one random area to another…
The most common reason for this is the mat hanging down in front and isn't fully supported or the material bubbling up. This means the material is closer to the blade and when the housing moves from one location to another, it hits the material. Make sure that all your materials are as flat as possible, stuck down well to the cutting mat if using one, and fully supported the entire time. This is assuming you are using a Silhouette branded blade.

I would start with a new blade.... I use blade depth 2, force 5, speed 5... but that doesn't work for all users. Each machine, vinyl, blade life, etc. can affect the cut settings being used.
Some users also have good results with the Overcut option, however, I do not - but it's something you could try...

Yes, I just use a marker to label because I'm lazy. Some will make labels and add it that way or stickers.
I do start a new blade as a vinyl blade and as it gets dull (usually takes a long while), then I move it to a cardstock or other blade type.

There is no repair or fix to replace the housing. Over time and with use, it's just wear and tear. However, have you ever replaced the cutting strip? That may help.... here is more information on that.

Thank you! You're a lifesaver.

Here is a step by step video explaining roller placement and how to load the cutting mat - th-cam.com/video/pmN-7Ks8jj0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tgnKPh0jCHEiSFrH

No. The left roller is a stationary roller on all Silhouette machines.

Hello I have a silhouette cameo plus and it will not cut larger than 8 and a half by 11, and I have tried to do a calibration and alignment. It was cutting right when I first got it. I followed the troubleshooting steps, and I sent the video to silhouette help, and it showed my machine could cut the shapes in the test file they sent true but not the larger shapes or the print n cut. I have been using silhouette cameo since 2010 and was always able to work it. Anyway I bought a new cameo 4 because I couldn't let my customers down, but I would love for my cameo pluse that i paid so much for would work right. Lol
I would contact Silhouette support again with detailed videos and photos explaining your issue, so they can see your setup and help diagnose the issue.
Hello! I have a huge problem where the cut will sometimes be 0.5 to 1mm off (on my portrait 3) to the right or to the left randomly, and sometimes it’s perfectly centered. The calibration is perfectly centered and the lenght of the lines too. I tried your help but I cannot move the carrier.
@VeganGaymer if you can not move the blade housing with the machine powered off and unplugged, then something is wrong. Don't force it.

Hi Elly, I have a new cameo silhouette 4 plus, it's been working fine, I've only had it 3 weeks. Today for some reason the autoblade carriage is moving across to the right side looking at it ? I've tried to find the reason why it's doing this. I've checked the blade is in correctly. I've done the calibration but it is still moving over to the right and the the correct starting place on the left. Can you help. Tony in the UK

@@SilhouetteSecrets yes Elly , I'm doing a Print & cut project.
I added a pic of the gear icon settings
and now when i click on the x to remove anything my arrow goes away and the circle keep circling never stop so i hoover over anything it still has that circle and not the arrow to click on anything else so i have to force to shut down.
My silhouette Cameo 4, will not home back to the right position. I have tried everything in any video I have seen and Silhouette studio customer service was just not any help. It sits about 2 inches to far in.
That typically indicates a broken crash stop sensor. It is not something you can fix as a user. Get it on video and then submit that video to Silhouette Support to show them the exact behavior.
Here is more information on that - silhouetteamerica.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/35000210333-cameo-carriage-moves-to-wrong-position-on-startup
What happens when my Cameo 4 doesn't cut through the points in a line. The blade lifts up at every point and doesn't cut the paper there, like it is perforated and it makes it quite difficult to remove my object neatly. It does it even if I set overcut. It didn't do it before.
@@n3m1g3n4 what material are you cutting? And what are the cut settings?
@@SilhouetteSecrets I am using a 160 g textured paper. I made a setting that works the best for it for me. (Blade depth 4, force 30, speed 3, and a 0.20 overcut.) I even simplify the path in the Silhouette Studio cause I export from Illustrator to DXF and it causes it to have way more points in SS than in AI. But when I trying to cut a star for example, the machine skips all the point of the star.
@@SilhouetteSecrets Well, apparently the SS suddenly have a problem with DXF files or something, cause when I drew the star in SS it cut it nice and neat. I exported a star in DXF and the same problem appeared as before. I will need to find a solution for this. :(
Do you think purchasing the Silhouette Connect could be a solution?
Thank you for your help! :)
@n3m1g3n4 can you save as a SVG? That is a much cleaner cut file than DXF has ever been.
My machine won’t cut big designs right like making them over lap cuts when it’s not supposed to please help
@@savannahbrown570 the most common reasons for that are the setup, the roller not locked in correctly, the blade not installed correctly, cut settings are too deep, not enough space behind the machine, or the material is hanging down in front or behind the machine.

I literally turn that option on for every cut file. I love Silhouette. I bought the business version after my first week and use it for everything from laser designs to sublimation. My mat is sliding everywhere. I have all the rollers on the mat correctly what can be wrong?
Without seeing actual photos, I can only guess at the most common reasons

My Cameo 4 is pulling my mat in and spitting it nearly out the back at the start of cutting.
What material do you have selected to cut on the Send tab?
@@SilhouetteSecrets rhin acetone. I am cutting 4mil mylar
@@amanda-jones So you selected Acetate on the setting - then that is why. There is a built in setting on the preset for Acetate that is called Track Enhancement. It rolls the materials back and forth prior to the cut.
Click on the More button and then uncheck Track Enhancement.
My only problem is I lose a 1/4 inch on one side and it refuses to cut there. I have to move it from one side.
