Finally getting caught up on my video watching. Great video as always! Brings me right back to when I replaced the entire sound system in my Z. Sooo much brittle plastic. Nice work!
Thank you VERY MUCH! These are EXTREMELY detailed videos of the process and I am very grateful for your dedication, not only to the project, but also to the video vantage points. These are AWESOME!
Good morning. You are very adventurous and gutsy taking on the speaker system. It is such a HUGE shame that BMW used so much plastic on the Z3, which really pulls down the value of the vintage Z3 today. So much plastic makes me very apprehensive of removing and replacing parts. I have done some work involving the plastic components (installing roll hoops) and have had some (minimal) breakage, so I have been pretty lucky. But, not sure I will go any further fooling with the fragile parts, unless it is critically necessary. Thanks for sharing your informative work! And great to see that you survived the hurricane Helene. 😃
Thanks for the video Mark. Hope the new box works out well for you. Thanks for submitting a video giving us proof of Life. I'm not sure what part of Florida you're in, but I'm happy you and your family are safe.
Thanks for the video Mark. Wow thats a lot of work. I have a 97 2.8 that I am thinking of changing the speakers on. They still work fine but I feel with the top down are not so great with the volume turned up. Are you going to up grade the woofers or put the old one back in? I look forward to seeing your next video. P.S. I love your enthusiasm, I too love my little roadster!
The problem with BMW plastic: It gets brittle with age and worse if the vehicle's constantly out in the sun. Mark: I'm sure you can find a replacement cover (if needed) but it looks like your wood working skills have taken over on this project. I can't wait to see and hear the finished results... Check your e-mail, I sent a pic of my buddies sub...
Hello Moment of Zed. I subscribed a while back to your channel and enjoy your videos. I have a 96 Z3 I bought a couple of years ago, and it's the most fun to drive of any car I have owned. You seem to be able to find things out a lot better than I can, so I was wondering if you might know about this. I have the subwoofer in my rear console and I need to replace the console (it's cracked up pretty bad). I did find a beige rear console online that is affordable, but it's the one that has the storage compartment, not the speaker. What is have been trying to find out is, can I remove the compartment and put subwoofer in it's place. They look exactly alike. I have been trying to find out and can't seem to find out if it is exchangeable. If you have any helpful info on this, please let me know. Thank you any help, Ralph in Ohio.
@@gourmet53 I'd have to look into that myself. My guess is no, I doubt the mounts for the subwoofer would be there, with that said. I don't know for sure.
@@MomentofZed I have the subwoofer and the brackets from the console I have now. I thought if the speaker grill is the same size as the storage door, I could put the guts from my old one into the new one and put my speaker grill in the storage door space. Just hate to buy that one and find out it won't work....expensive mistake. I just couldn't find any info as to whether or not the two units are the same except for the speaker/storage door spot. If you run across any info on that, send me a reply on this thread (I'll keep a lookout). Thanks for getting back to me. Really enjoy your channel.
I have a 1998 z3 M roadster and i adore you. This is great, I’m gonna have my boyfriend watch this video :) and i will oversee his work
@ashlyncarlsson9707 thank you for your kind words and good luck!

@walterreil4001 thanks Walter! I try to avoid messing with the plastic usually as well!
Mark, Good luck during the incoming hurricane! 😮
@walterreil4001 thanks! Going to be a doozy looks like

@CoolcatsAlley near Orlando, no real effects here, appreciate the concern!
Love the original cassette/radio unit….the one I had used to chew tapes up so I had to put in a CD/radio unit.
@@Yorkshireghostguy wish I could keep it, but the volume doesn't adjust anymore 😕

@davealexander7561 thank you! Originals will be kept but not re-installed. Will install a single 6.5 incher

@jimmyk6336 appreciate the pic. I'll take a look. I'm not looking to put in a new plastic lid, but yes they are out there.

I finally got a bmw z3. It’s a 2000 2.8 automatic
@@Medinam_z3 congratulations! Hope you enjoy it!
Can you send me the dimensions. It’s very difficult to see a diagram of the box or the dimensions of each piece. You make it look so easy…
P.S. Someone having a 3D printer could probably have a lot of fun making a new box.
@@walterreil4001 I think someone on TH-cam has done it.
3D printing takes a lot longer than you think (ask me how I know) and that's not including the time spent on the CAD system...

Spoiler alert. Whatever speakers you wll put in the Z3 your sound will not be any good when driving over 30mph... :)
