Seeing a lot of confusion in the comments because US, Canadian, and European RWD models are different. Despite sharing the same RWD moniker, the Model Y RWD sold in Canada and Europe have the LFP battery and should be charged to 100% at least once a week. Those sold in the US have the regular battery and should be charged daily to 80% and occasionally to 100% for road trips. When watching TH-cam videos, be sure to know which RWD is being reviewed :)

Got RWD Shanghai 2023. Charges to 260 miles. Can plug it in to 100% every time so we are encouraged by the Tesla app to charge it fully. 0-60 in just over 6 seconds. Just means instead of being kicked in the back hard, you're kicked in the back a little softer, but it still leaves most cars on the road disappearing in your rear view mirror when you floor it.

History shows that Tesla has allowed SW locked batteries to be bought out before, but if I’m not mistaken they typically only did it right before they started shipping smaller batteries. The model s 60 got replaced by the 70 and the 60s could be unlocked into 75

I just ordered the Model Y RWD and was questioning whether I should have gone for the extra LR cost. With current government incentives and the recent $2k price drop, it just seemed to make the most sense for around town driving (usually no more than 100 miles a week). Total cost w/tax was still < $40k. Thanks for the reassurance that I probably made the right choice. I'm in the US (Texas, in fact), so I'll assume my build will come from Austin and the curves you mention should apply to mine.

I was checking out inventory and saw that RWD Model Y, after clicking on details button states "Does Not Qualify for Federal Tax Credit", but if you build a custom Model Y RWD, it qualifies just fine for credit/rebate. Inventory only has 2023 model years and they must be some chinese battery and Tesla just got busted. I think it's LFP battery, now I really want to buy one. Some people want to buy a short-range model. Now everyone who wants to buy long range model still can. But now they can sell a short range model.
The problem is that building a second factory and running the factory to produce smaller batteries, The batteries are cheaper but the overhead cost of running the second factory just make the second battery size actually cost more than the amount of savings. This means that it's actually cheaper to just limit it in software that it is to spend all of the money building the second factory when they're never going to make enough...
I know it seems backwards but it actually means that with the money saved they can lower the price of both models by a little bit... The alternative is to just lose the customers that can't afford the long range to competitors.

80% of 260 is 208 miles and that's if you drive it to zero. So realistically you're going to get about 100 miles of real world range in the winter. I have the 2023 MYP and I supercharge (exclusively) to 90% and then recharge at 15%. With that I get 110 miles in the winter and in the summer I was getting 170 miles. @@TecnamTwin How is it capable of more? I drive from 90% down to 20%. Tesla says not to drive below 20%. I never road trip so that’s useless for me. When my charge gets to 20%. I pre condition the battery and then drive 12 miles to a supercharge and I end up with 15% battery.
That’s what’s I said I don’t baby the car. I drive it like an ice car. That’s why I get 110 miles per charge.

Chevy Bolt owner here. I drive from 83% to around 40% every day, right at 100-104 mile commute. Average 200 miles range but I don't use it all. Summer it's 220 ish, In the winter it's closer to 180 miles, 83%-0%. I can't believe the model y has that poor efficiency. 70% of your 78kwh pack only goes 110mi? That same distance is only 42% of my 66kwh pack, and the CD on the bolt is worse, isn't it, than the Y? I really want to get a Y but this sounds bad.

@@maj429 That’s for the model y performance. Yeah in summer it was better 170 but winter range is bad and that’s driving it like a normal person and using heat and everything. If I was to baby it I could probably get another 20-30 miles. My wh/mi for summer was 270ish and for winter it’s almost 350.
It’s honestly the best car I’ve owned. Super fast and smooth. Love the app and so many other features. It puts ice vehicle to shame. It’s a heavy car and the performance has big wheels which doesn’t help range. I like the car but I’m not a Tesla fan boy making TH-cam videos. Just sharing my real world experience. My daily commute is just 20 miles so charging once a week works for me but the ideal situation would be to have a home charger.

It would make more sense if Tesla is limiting the bottom of the battery pack, and not the top. That way the bms will still balance the cells when it gets fully charged.

    • @pilotavery
      @pilotavery 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

But fully charging the pack wears it out a lot more. Better to limit the top so the battery last longer years and so it's empty, it charges faster when empty.

@@SpeakerKevin Yes it does. Tesla even says so. Limiting to 80% charge by default... They do that now 🤣
They have a button you push to charge to 100% before a trip.
Also the last 20% is a trickle charge. Lower battery charges faster.

It has 69.6kwh battery ……. So it does not use a long range battery and software lock it. It is a smaller non LFP battery.
Could you please confirm & delete the video. This information is misleading & incorrect.

as a business on the stock exchange they have a legal obligation to their shareholders to do their best to remain profitable. If they sold as cheap as possible there would be no profit for reinvestment in to new tech & it wouldn't take long for them to go out of business completely. I'd rather see them make a profit and remain an industry leader. Eventually that will force other manufacturers to try to keep up thus leading to competition that will reduce prices & increase the quality of everyone's products. Profit isn't necessarily a bad thing.
