    Just flew my DJI Mavic Air 2 today. It's a long way from where I am to where you are Jake. I appreciate your enthusiasm as much, if not more, than any other youtube videos I've seen. Maybe because I appreciate the remote places you film, and how unique your videos are. Anyway, paid for some training today, and let's see where it goes. I have always loved flying. No matter what this will be fun.

    You don't necessarily have to fly backwards through objects, you can fly forward and then reverse it with editing software.

    Great advice, I love the shots. Can I just say, when your putting yourself in the shot SMILE. It was confusing seeing the deadpan face at the start.
    The fatal attraction phenomenon is the most perplexing thing. The drones I built over a decade ago did this and DJI drones I have are the same. It's barometer priority part of the code. However I'm sure DJI picked up on it.

    When it comes to the pullback shots, in some cases you are able to reverse the video. This allows you to see FPV where you are going.

    'Nother great instructional video. I have a dumb question, due to weather keeping me from finding out for myself, but somewhere I heard that the intelligent flight modes will only track people and vehicles. My question is; can you lock onto a building and then orbit or fly around it keeping it in the center. I don't have the skill to do that and don't want to waste a trip. Memphis has a pyramid which is lit up at night as well as a bridge across the Mississippi River near it which is also lit. I believe it would make a great video, but want to get something better than I could do without help.

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the drone. You can use point of interest to track around objects like houses towers etc.

    Great information! Thanks so much! It’s fun to see the progress of myself and others as we learn more types of shots and get more comfortable with our sticks. Some of my first few videos are quite embarrassing lol I still have a lot of work/learning to do. But we all gotta start from somewhere!

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      we all started somewhere! Took me a few years to master some of these shots and somedays I still don't get it right lol. Cheers!

    The sinking phenomena when flying low to the ground is caused by the Venturi effect. All of the air that the drone is generating in a downward force must escape the area somehow but is blocked by the ground. In short, air moves faster under the drone causing lower pressure beneath the drone and the ground. The lower pressure causes the drone to "sink."

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brilliant thanks for that explanation!

    • @ChristopherNips81
      @ChristopherNips81 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @QUICK-STAR DJI says to not fly lower than 1 meter (roughly three feet) to avoid the sinking phenomenon. Not having clear LOS always makes me nervous but sometimes getting that amazing shot is worth the risk. However, three feet above the surface will still yield an amazing shot in most cases. Fly safe!

    What would you do if you crashed your drone. I just bought the Skydio 2, and I used Traverse Insurance to insure it for $2000. Would you have a different approach on how to insure a drone?

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There aren't many ways to insure drones currently unfortunately, so if you can get insurance through a provider then I highly recommend it

    Here is a tip I use. When practicing a difficult maneuver I use my Mavic mini. It’s fantastic for practicing. And if it goes awry it’s just a mini with a refresh program.

    on a pull back couldnt you just fly in then just rewind the footage? or would it look funny? im new at the all of this and was just thinking maybe that it would be safer while also achieving the same outcome? ps when i try it either direction it looks horrible so i have alot of practice to do before i could give any input

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can unless there are things like water people cars etc moving in the frame. Then those will be reversed as well

  • @ThePioneerChannel
    @ThePioneerChannel 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For the pull back shot, you can just make the drone fly towards you so you see what's going on, then just play it backwards in the editor

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can unless there is anything moving in the video (trees blowing in the wind, water etc) if you reverse it then people will notice that looks unnatural really quickly. Cheers!

    I usually record nothing but garbage - so bad that I can't bear to watch my own stuff. After watching this vid several times, I went out and spent the day and night on the Black Rock playa (think Burning Man) and recorded 32 GB of footage. I still recorded some garbage, but every clip has at least one savable sequence in it, thanks to you and your instruction. Now to see if I can piece all the good stuff together and make something enjoyable. Thank you again!

    • @YOLOnyc
      @YOLOnyc 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Was thinking the same thing, in your sample videos there is no movement that couldn't have been reversed, so nobody would know if you filmed the shots going forward, which is obviously much easier since you can see where you're going in the camera.
