    Really informative! Been a professional photographer since 1989 and cinematic video is so new to me... I feel like a toddler craving in all the knowledge I can and I will be mimicking what I have seen until the moment comes when it all clicks! I only wish I would have began with Drones years back but never saw the need. Now I am hooked! Thanks for what you do!

    OMG! It gets so cold where I live in Ireland, that I sometimes can't move my fingers for a few minutes after flying (late November onwards). Part of this is air humidity and wind chill effects. I can't imagine how cold these locations you shoot in are. And I lived in central Ontario for three years, with pre-sunrise temperatures frequently of minus 35 degrees.

    Hi Jake...excellent videos by the way - and very informative. Two questions...is your drone okay in icy conditions - and do you adjust exposure to compensate for the blankets of snow and ice that must play havoc with the metering system ?

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't worry about icing too much because everything is SOOO cold lol, On exposure I manually expose everything to look the way I want it to look in the end, this much snow throws the metering and auto exposure WAY off

    Hey Jake. Great video!
    I am brand new to the drone game. I just took my part 107 as my work just launched a drone program, and I was put in charge of it. I have found myself diving into it pretty deep. I purchased my own drone, and started playing around at home.
    I live in Northern New York and with the time of year I wanted to see if one could fly in snow despite DJI not “recommending” it. So I found your page by YouTubing the flying in snow tips. Which lead me to this video as well.
    All the tips are amazing and I look forward to trying some new things.
    What I was really curious about is if you have a recommendation for video editing software? Which program do you use?
    Look forward to exploring more of your channel!

      I was at f8 with an ND16 on the lens. It doesn’t look like it through the video but the sun was being filtered slightly through a very thin layer of clouds too

    What settings would you recommend for the exp to slow the drone down while getting smooth movements? I find it to be a very aggressive drone when it comes to movement and am struggling with the stick speeds and exp speeds to get it to fly smooth. I flew over water/ice the other day and it kept wanting to raise altitude instead of just flying on the path it was on.

    Sorry if you talk about this in another video, but on average how much footage do you take on a shoot and what's the usual length of the finished product? Or an approximate ratio of footage shot vs footage used

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh man it varies so much. For a tv show typically I’ll shoot 1-2 TB (a few hours) of footage I’ve the course of a full day and they might use 1-2 min of that. For TH-cam stuff I usually shoot 1hr to 1.5hrs of footage and edit it down to 8-12min

      I'm quite well underatnd theory but I need to choose what set of ND filters should I buy for crazy bright sunny days in mountains. Like when you cannot even look without cat 3 or cat 4 lenses on your eyes.
      Here th-cam.com/video/-8Q5YmwznNs/w-d-xo.html, you put ND64 in a day without even direct sunlight. ND64 is typicaly on the end of line in common ND filters sets (except ND1000 of course). I would expect that there are much much more light in snow mountains, expecially on high altitudes. And I don't understand what ND numbers I should get for that conditions.
