I just bought this exact car (25 Type-S urban gray with red interior) minus the wheels. I absolutely love it and as of 900 miles haven’t found anything I’d change. By far the best review I’ve seen and for the past 6 months I literally watched every review on the 24.
I’m not currently into sedans, but this video really lifted my spirits. It’s refreshing to know a major manufacturer is still using high quality materials (e.g., aluminum intake and valve covers, and forged suspension elements), producing exciting, high quality engines, and building modern, well handling sedans. That engine is just beautiful and reflects a philosophy of making something that will last forever if properly maintained.
If I may ask, if you are not “into sedans” what are you into? I am not into sedans either but two door coupes are getting more and more scarce so sedans are all we have left, unless you want a SUV.
I generally have either an up-fitted Jeep or a truck, but my main interest is in motorcycles, and most of my miles are on motorcycles. I just admire good engineering and solid build quality, both of which I think are reflected in this car.
The dash-to axle-ratio of the TLX is too much and it takes away the interior cabin space. IT is literally pointless to buy this instead of a Lexus IS 500 F SPORT with a proper V8 engine.
@@bsmuklerThank you for your answer! I’m not into Jeeps and trucks but I do appreciate what they are doing with those. I will have to mourn the loss of the American coupe.
I owned a 1999 Acura TL, it was a great car and quite quick rated at 225 hp. Sold to my sister in law who kept it for many years, very reliable. Honda/Acura are good machines. Thanks for the video.
Your channel and Savagegeese are the very few auto review channels that go over the mechanics of a car. I prefer watching you bc you're more fun whereas those SG guys are too monotone and bland for me despite the great and detailed information they provide. Keep it up!
6:10....."it smells well built".....only Sarah would think of saying that. 😁 12:59........Samsquanch....😁 I see the bees left you alone.......this time.
At about the same price, I thought about buying this or the Lexus IS500. The thought was short lived as I chose the Lexus with 115 more hp power and that glorious N/A V8 won me over.
Best TLX content I have discovered so far. Anticipating when tlx-s 2021+ will be 5-10-15yrs plus for mid tier budget builds. Can’t wait to find a sun baked one in 10 years in Az for everyday Camry prices now. Kinda like how Aston Martin vantage V8s(05-17 gen), like 007, are available in 20-30 market now, and they are N/A ( and use ford parts!). Love driving my v6 tlx time every time I am able, ready to get in gen 2 type s, and add as well, manifesting an apex blue/ebony interior, to add to my fathom blue and kinetic blue tl-s, team v6 Acura(tl, tlx, nsx) and team ford classic/ late model (pre 05)(mustang,f series, bronco, ranger, taurus, SVT)!
I thought I was going to hate this car. After watching all the tech specs….. Well…I still don’t like Turbos or transverse mounted engines….but this car turned out to be way cooler than I thought. I was expecting a turbo 4 FWD overdressed Accord. A rather sophisticated AWD setup, a V6, and those amazing brakes…way more impressive than I was expecting.
with all the upgrades och engine and transmission i think this is well prepared for some performance tuning, valve springs and fuel pump/injectors, then just take it to the tuner. and congrats on 700k!
I had a 2002 Acura TL type S. Its curb weight is 3558 lbs and 0-60 in 7.2 seconds. It handled corners really well and I breached 140 mph on a lonely, 2 lane country road, very stable. Its redline was around 7000 rpm as it had a 3.2 L v-tech engine. My old car I bought very used could give this one a run for its money due to its lighter weight.
The TL and CL Type-S cars were unironically my dream cars in the 2000's. For a while you could get 6-speed manuals in them too! Those were peak Honda/Acura times with their fantastic sounding and rev happy V6's.
Yup original owner 2004 TL base 6 speed bought it when I was a tech at Acura. But nah my old 6 speed ain't running with these newer AWD turbo TLXs don't care what the weight difference is it's not happening 😂@@OnTheRocks71
I use to work for the company that made those cast aluminum damper housings. Combination of aluminum and steel, requiring a special, self-piercing rivet. That was an all new technology for an all steel welding/stamping company!
Hey Sarah, Great review as always really liked the color. Reminds me of that supra Cu later grey Color on that awesome special edition with a manual transmission, of course. and absolutely nothing wrong with you. It’s just everybody else they just don’t have your kind of magic.🐧🐧🐧👍
Really nice luxury grand touring car, especially for the price (relative to the insane prices you mentioned). I owned an ‘08 TL that I loved that was at the time one of the best-looking performance sedans on the market. Another excellent production, Sarah, and congratulations on breaking the 700k subscriber mark. Thank you, Sarah. 👍👍👍
Congrats on 700k! I love how you compare the prices on the 90’s version of the car. Please keep that in your reviews. Looks like a nice car but I’ll stick with my slower WRX.
I like knowing that there are Japanese brand alternatives to the German sporty sedans. It sucks that most American brands have dropped sporty sedans, and sedans in general, but at least we still have things like the TLX. I'd love to have one of these second generation TLXs.
Happy Monday Sarah!!! Nice to see a sedan being produced amongst all the cookie cutter SUVs, car definitely has eyeball and seems to check all the boxes for overall driving enjoyment. Happy belated Veterans Day and have a Happy Thanksgiving as well. Stay excellent!!!😎
Please consider explaining how the gear selection system works, since so many manufacturers have seen fit to redesign the shift lever, in so many different ways. Maybe it's just me, but thanks for your time.
I've always loved this car and have wanted one since the Type-S came out. I doubt I could afford one anytime soon but a great car! Sucks the resale is so good on Acura products cause these used hardly drop in price.
Cool car! Nice to see anyone making performance SEDANS these days. I do wonder WHEN you find the time to do all the homework you do for these reviews.... damn! Great job, as always!
I live in the northeast so winters are an obstacle. I wanted something fun with all wheel drive and closely looked at this car, almost pulling the trigger. I decided that having a family, a pickup truck would be more ideal and ended up ordering a shelter green ranger raptor. If I was single or without kids, or had another dedicated winter vehicle, this would be in my driveway/garage for sure. I love this thing, but I couldn't be happier with my new truck
@BillybobThorton-q7w haha been there done that :) snow tires dont help much when hung up bottomed out in a foot or snow or being plowed in. I need ground clearance and this truck is anything but boring :) i really love that car though
Beautiful car, I wish we could get these things in Australia! Another great review Sarah, the engine torque band is very similar to the Genius G70 - that’s a driver’s car!
I was searching for this car, and I found your channel and I'm glad I did. I was looking for an alternative Japanese car to Camry and accord, I think this car is priced for luxury, but I like it over those two. At this price though I still have the 2024 Lexus IS500 to consider at least it's a V8, an aggressive fun little NA V8 sports sedan.
Congrats on passing 700k. Had a 99 TL that was a great handling car and top notch interior but... It reused the smaller transmission from the CL with the higher torque 3.2L engine in the TL which began destroying the second gear disc pack in the transmission. Car began killing the engine while stopped at lights. Honda "fixed" it at 15k and had to fix it again at 30k and it started failing again at 45k at which point I got rid of it when Honda refused to replace the transmission outright and offered crap towards a new TL.
Except the NSX, this is the best Acura I've seen since my '07 TL backed out of the showroom. The rest seemed to have quirks - this looks like a winner for the price.
I’m far from an expert, but I’m guessing that engagement-views, likes, comments, and watch time-is far more important than subscriber size. That being said, congratulations on 700k!!

Best auto reviews on TH-cam. Congratulations on 700K. Here’s to a million 🎉
The level of detail is one of my favorite aspects of your reviews. You get what buyers are interesred in better than just about anyone on YT.

Glad the Jaguar fans have someplace to still find a real car.
My daily is a 2009 XJ8. This Acura is way more impressive than I was expecting…but I’ll still keep my old beater with a V8 and RWD.
He's referring to the rebranding of Jaguar to exclusively become an EV luxury car company. The old V8 Jags are still cool
Highlight of this video ;

Got to love Sarah's humor.

First thing you must do if you buy any Honda product with VCM. Install a VCM tuner to disable the system. Speaking from experience here.

I think Acura could have better tuned this car up to 400 hp to match the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport, amazing car though and excellent review!
Acura’s corner like they’re on rails, they’re awesome.
Can confirm. I had an Acura MDX SH-AWD and it freaked the living daylights out of my passengers all the time with how well it handled for an SUV.
At about the same price, I thought about buying this or the Lexus IS500. The thought was short lived as I chose the Lexus with 115 more hp power and that glorious N/A V8 won me over.
I could never buy a 60k car with that interior. Somebody please tell Lexus we don't need a touch pad and clock, it's not 2010 anymore
@@davelospinoso9022 Im pretty sure they removed the touchpad from now on. There's carplay too and touch screen.
