For those who don't recognize the Chapman name for that strut construction, it was one of the many automotive innovations designed by Colin Chapman, who started Lotus and had many successes with iconic sports cars and in racing.
I'd say this is the vehicle that Jeep has built by looking at how the majority of the Jeep owners use their vehicles. Besides the more hard-core off-road versions, there's obviously a demand for more road-friendly versions. Statistics show that most off-road capable vehicles spent 90% or more of their time being driven on roads, so this vehicle is aiming at that, while still retaining SOME off-road capability. If you want to do more off-roading, simply buy a Wrangler or a Gladiator and lose a lot of the comfort this Compass offers.
No one would buy them if manufacturers made true, off-road SUVs. A majority of people don’t ever take them off-road and wouldn’t tolerate a rougher ride on the street. But you can find an “off-road version” of most major nameplates for those who want to convince others of their off-road worthiness. Soft-roaders are what people want to buy.
@@housepianist Subaru understands that a heck of a lot better than US automakers. It's the eagle or nothing you tell them Sarah, great review like always. ❤❤
Bringing back the AMC Eagle line would be epic, but I don't think Stellantis likes to take risks.
That's an excellent idea. Have Jeep focus on the Wrangler, Gladiator, and Wagoneer but bring back Eagle as a lifted crossover brand. That would make perfect sense, but of course Stellantis won't do that for that very reason.
Let's get the hat passed around to make Sarah the leader of Stellantis.
Need a Compass Raptor. LOL. Great review, Sarah.
