I’m honestly just looking forward to finding out how the other Pikmin types come into play since we only see the onion have the primary colors of Pikmin. Of course it’s possible that we could get other onions later on but they just haven’t been shown, or maybe the onion just shows the primary colors all the time but still have the other colors
@@pyroman4554 Maybe the onion just _visually_ shows the primary colors, since you can get almost every color by simply combining the primary colors together (y'know... if you also include _shades_ like how you get white, black, and gray).
I feel like we're hearing a story about how Arlo met his future wife. You can see how much he cares about this series, how every word sounds like he's savoring it - It would be fantastic to see a livestream of his first play through and seeing how he processes everything as it's happening in real-time.
You know, watching all this footage, I’m reminded how much 3 captains was used in Pikmin 3. It feels so weird to go back to 1 captain, and all the implications that’ll have for level design. It was super cool to do puzzles with 3 captains imo
Peace be upon you folks. I just realized ALL 4 Pikmin games are now on Switch! :] that’s…truly wonderful. And a great way to promote a series! Btw Arly I would 100% watch a let’s play you make of Pikmin 4 :D
The new time UI is small in the corner in 4 not just for efficiency reasons, since the perspective is a lot more thrid person than bird's perspective the old UI would cover a lot of the backgrounds and - more importantly - flying/ jumping enemies would be less visiable. To me this seems like a necessary change. (Although, I'm a bit sad to see it gone, too...)
The fact that Pikmin 1 and 2 are more of a remake than a port is incredible the Pikmin have new ui and on top of that you can throw different Pikmin types without disassembling all of them is a game changer
I’m just learning that you had to disassemble them to throw different kinds before. Maybe I’m just spoiled from 3 being my first pikmin game, but that sounds like it would make the game a nightmare
You could throw different types without disassembling them in 2 already. It's just a button press and rotates between the colors if you're holding one. Used to do that all the time to help speed up purples
Funny enough, my biggest want for Pikmin 4 right now is to see the Emperor Bulblax come back, he was unused in 3 and they could’ve brought him back in the 3DX postgame but didn’t, and I just want to see him again
@@gam360y Yes yes, of course. I just don’t want it to die in like three seconds like it did in Pikmin 2. I’m hoping they also make it bigger than Pikmin 2 but not as big as the original.
I was so unbelievably delighted seeing the Glow Pikmin in the trailer. They're little glowing ghosts, with asymmetric eyes? Their flowers are STARS?? DELIGHTFUL! I actually had a thought when they showed up, that maybe these are those little Pikmin spirits that you see float away when they die. Maybe they get turned into Glow Pikmin, and the more that die in the day the more you have at night when you're exploring? I'm not sure what their story will be, but its very fun to think about!
After falling in love with Pikmin 3 Deluxe, when I saw the direct i immediatly bought the 1 & 2. Already finished the first and now I'm on the second AND I CANT WAIT FOR 4 AAAAAAAAAA THE HYPE.
I'm on the same page! I've been trying to love these games since the GC, but I couldn't get into them. It finally clicked with Pikmin 3 Deluxe, and I bought 1+2 as soon as they went up on the eShop. It feels really nice to know I'll be caught up on the series when this drops.
Here’s my pet theory regarding the olimar pikmin situation: as alluded to in other games (3) there is some weird reason ships keep crashing. I think the pikmin NEED a captain of sorts to grow in numbers so somehow they crash ships near them to get captains to grow them in number. Now I think that this is possibly olimar and he has died like jn P1 bad end and has now sprouted as a pikmin captain (capmin?) and he is now solely dedicated to pikmin and growing the numbers of pikmin. This is also maybe why he is taking other captains and why he has a dog, it was another captains first and he took it for the betterment of pikmin as it lets them safely traverse land easier. Kind of a long shot but this makes the most sense to me.
Oh and the dondori has a leaf tail unlike oatchi which makes me think he was sucked into the onion too maybe. Further little grains to add to the theory
I believe the parasite question is somewhat answered with bulbmim, I don’t know the exact thing, but says how the pikmin sort of infected Bulborbs. It should be in the piklopedia in Pikmin 2
I noticed in the background at night, you could see some of the enemy creatures who did not have the glowy eyes. So it doesn't seem like every enemy does that at night. Maybe they only do that when they get close to a glowing mound or something.
That's my thought as well. The glowing eyes is a trance state that makes them focus exclusively on the glowing mounds ( you can also notice that once they're in that state they completely ignore the Pikmin and captain as well). But when they're not in that state they'll act like normal enemies. The one thing I'm less sure of is if it's strictly a proximity thing. If they wanted to force the mode to be more like a defensive type of gameplay it could also be on a timer, where as time goes on more and more enemies become entranced and start moving towards the mound(s), sort of like a wave of enemies in a tower defense game. Maybe you have time between waves to venture out and explore or kill non-tranced enemies, which can make future attacks easier at the cost of needing to fight an enemy that will actually fight back and try to kill your Pikmin.
It's nice that, although Arlo doesn't like Hey! Pikmin, at least he can acknowledge how great that game's soundtrack really is and uses it in his videos!
It's because a bad game can have a good soundtrack, but a good game can't have a bad soundtrack. Obviously not saying Hey Pikmin is bad, though. I haven't played it
I had hoped that the day/night modes were seamless, but it seems like you're restricted to "normal" gameplay during the day and you still have to get back to base by sundown, and the nighttime gameplay is it's own separate mode where - like you said - you can only use the special pikmin.
Pikmin 2 was my first "favourite game" as a kid. I'd draw Snagrets in the margins of my math homework, think of "treasure names" for household objects, etc. Something about the series' focus on speculative evolution/biology really engaged my imagination. Pikmin 4's return to caves and treasure hunting really does feel like a homecoming for the series. I'm beyond excited.
what are some of the "treasure names" you came up with? I personally would want to come up with new names for more complex foods than fruit, like for candies or something.
@@pillowmint4622 i had a few of those "rattlesnake egg" magnets that i dubbed "lethal attractors." i thought it'd be funny if the ship tried to sell them as dual-purpose weapons/ seduction devices.
@@Moro_Wins after looking up what a rattlesnake egg magnet was, that sounds about right XD also, now that I think about it, they'd probably see candy as an edible ore to be mined, and they'd name it all stuff like "Unbreakium" for jawbreakers or "sourite" for sweet tarts or sour drops, maybe even call pure sugar "sweet sand".
I think it’s gonna sell a small amount at launch, but that word of mouth from both excited fans and new players will make it pick up steam over time, and it’ll ultimately do pretty well.
About the Glow Pikmin: being able to throw a bunch all at once sounds interesting, but I don’t want them to go off like a bomb and win most of the fight in an instant.
SO. One potential theory is that The "Piklimar" there isn't actually Olimar. It's a strange "Piksquatch". A higher caste of Pikmin that wander the wilderness like bigfoot, and come and save the Pikmin species when they are needed most. It's why the Pikmin get immediately attached to any captain that crash lands on PNF-404, because they happen to look like these Piksquatches. Also that one in the trailer stole Olimar's clothes.
About Olimar: My theory is that the pikmin are what causes ships to crash on the planet. This is so that the pikmin basically use intelligent life to assist them in running their kingdom so they can conquer lands and reproduce. After crashing on the planet quite literally 3 times, Olimar is the character in the series to be exposed to this whole pikmin world the longest, which begins taking a toll on him, eventually turning him into one. Then, like a sort of hive-mind, he's able to tap into the pikmin's thoughts and SPEAK to us with our own known language. (I fully expect him to lore-drop some secrets about the pikmin's ways of life, etc). BUT, the main takeaway is; I find it interesting that he, similar to the golden life form and other pikmin, take castaways and keep them. He knew that a rescue team would come, because he knew about his own homeworld before transforming, so he knew rescue was a possibility. His brainwashed-self takes advantage of this opportunity to now use the rescue team to assist in the growing and raising of more pikmin. Think about it... Wouldn't you /battle/ any other character /with pikmin/ to "prove yourself"? No, because he doesn't want the pikmin to die. Instead, he's asking you to out-pluck him, grow more pikmin than him--assist his now-home civilization. Then, and only then, he rewards you with your prize and allows you to go back home, much like every pikmin game before this one. I didn't think it was a possibility, but perhaps... perhaps Olimar is truly gone.
This would be a pretty dark turn for the series, but I'm definitely also speculating some kind of 'bigger picture' thing for the Pikmin in this game. Maybe life's better as a Pikmin? Not sure how deep they'll go with it but very excited to see!
@@stuffstuff3455could be a rival hive, no? They were being outcompeted by Olimar's superior planning abilities, so they sought out a Captain of their own
@Gloomdrake the Ai no uta song shows that pikmin are benevolent. Besides, how would the pikmin cause the ships to crash in all three games? If they had that kind of power, they wouldn't need a captain.
If being a Pikmin fan is like walking through the desert cresting every dune, then being an F-Zero fan is like drifting in the ocean getting tired of staying afloat watching you get Pikmin 4.
The triple whammy of Tears of the kingdom, Pikmin 4, and somewhere down the line, Prime 4, will no doubt go down in gaming history as that time Nintendo fans were promised three games that were such big, enormous deals in the gaming landscape that had fans absolutely squealing for joy, then those fans had to wait anywhere from a few months to a few years either watching the game get delayed or not even having the game be officially announced and people were wondering if they'd even come out, then they all did and were amazing.
I didn't think I'd have any games to take me away from zelda totk until 4 came out, but I'm so pleased they've brought out 1&2 as I haven't played them in years!
Super excited for Pikmin 4. At first I was afraid it might be a bit more like 3 (which I didn’t play because it looked like too much of a departure from 1 and 2), but after everything I’ve seen it looks like 2 with a ton of really cool changes. Upgrading your items and Oatchi? Yes please! Weird Olimar Pikmin man? Yes please!
Honestly, Pikmin 3 is great! To me it felt like a great evolution of the formula from 1 and 2 rather than what I'd call a departure. It did a great job of streamlining task management too. I definitely recommend it!
13:08 hear me out: what if he is kidnapping them to turn them into Hocotatemin aswell? He got turned into this by the Pikmin yes but now he searches more Hocotatiens to turn them into his own kind
I just love that this year, Nintendo is REALLLY trying to push Pikmin out there. This year, Pikmin fans are eating really good... and it makes me so happy as a fan of this franchise.
I personally believe that the pikman(what im calling the olimar lookalike) is a olimar fan. He likely wants to prove himself as a good leader and test the player as worthy of saving olimar. The pikman is likely the original leader species of the pikmin or is a pikmin that olimar held dear, likely the first red pikmin he plucked. If not the pikman is olimar taken over by a parasite pikmin.
At first i was very iffy about oatchi because i thought he was a bulborb dog that they just found and that there’s a bulborb dog just because, but the fact that he’s a dog from their home planet just removes that for me and i love him now. Also was kinda iffy about pikmin 4 as a whole but after this trailer I’m actually really excited for it! I was obsessed with pikmin back in third grade and now i may get to relive some of that wonder without immediately going to sunset if i get spooked by an enemy lol
I would love to see a gamemode of randomly generated caves that go on forever and the goal is to see how long you last, like in the beginning it could have simple enemies like the blowhogs and then it could go into night enemies who are more aggressive and then it could go into bosses and maybe at some point fight multiple bosses at once
These Pikmin announcements felt like an early birthday present to me, especially because the Pikmin 4 demo releases on my actual birthday. Hype levels are the highest they have ever been for me 😃
I can certainly say you played a huge part in making me interested in Pikmin. The amount of love you have for this franchise was evident every time you talked about it, in your reaction to 4's reveal and especially after watching the intro to your big fat review of the first game. It got me thinking "man, I gotta see what all the fuss is about". I was already planning to buy 4 all things considered, and then they dropped the first 2 on the switch... Needless to say, I'm having a blast with the first one and I might get 3 as well... So thanks for recommending, and for the hole you just made in my wallet!!
I pointed out, ice is now a THREAT. If you go to the upgrade showcase with scorch guard and such, you Can see thermal defense at the bottum. Pretty cool! (Timestamp - 17:52
I was hoping that with ice pikmin being a water evolution, we might get a light evolution for yellow pikmin, since they're electric-themed, but kind of not versatile or on-theme enough. Was thinking they could be used to light the otherwise pitch-black caves, since I forgot night mode was a thing. A little disappointed at the missed opportunity, but glad to get new pikmin ofc :)
When I saw the Nintendo direct I was just thinking isn't arlo's two most favorite franchises paper Mario and pikmin? So he must be freaking out since mario rpg counts as paper mario and we get pikmin 1 and 2.
What you said at the end was really applicable to me. I was interested in Pikmin 4 because of your hype, but it was more of a "What would Arlo say about this?" kind of interest. I really didn't care for a series that I would have to start at a game called number 4. That might be kind of weird, but it's just how I feel about it. Now that 1 and 2 are on Switch, and if I remember correctly 3 as well, I'll definitely go play those during the summer break.
Hey, Arlo. At 5:40, You can see pikmins carrying little pieces of crystals one by one. The reason they don't do it for the grape was that they were carrying and entire bunch still attached to it's twig.
I love that pikmin 4 is like an updated pikmin 2 but with the bad ending. Seeing all these elements return especially with caves and white/purple pikmin is super cool. I can’t wait to play it!
What a time to be a Pikman fan. I just became a fan as I am playing through the first two games on switch and I am so glad I can join this hype train! Better late than never! I am not even done with 1 yet but I am already in love with this game! And it’s perfect timing because when I’m finished with 3, 4 will likely be out already! So glad these ports released so I get to have the pikman experience!
The poetry at the beginning was beautiful. I’m emotional vulnerable due to some family issues, so I’m crying listening to the whole desert poetry. The symbolism is so clever and accurate and… it’s beautiful. Thank you so much. Now I’m gonna go finish crying in a corner dreaming of pikmin in an oasis.
With 3DX coming out in 2020, Bloom going live in 2021, 1+2 getting shadow-dropped during the latest Direct, and 4 FINALLY coming out in less than a month, with a demo next week, I think it's safe to say that the Pikmin Renaissance is here!
something I just realized: the olimin guy COULD be stealing castaways to put in the onion. it is the pikmins nature, and he is part pikmin now. he could be making more of these zombified space explorers.
After years of hearing you talk about Pikmin, I'm finally thinking to try it out. Could you make a video on which one is the best to start with or which ones would appeal to different people? I know you did something similar for Pikmin 3, but I think a more in-depth video about the series itself would be nice. Not sure if it would be a bad idea because of algorithm stuff, not a TH-camr. Maybe just reply to this if it is?

@@pyroman4554 Maybe the onion just _visually_ shows the primary colors, since you can get almost every color by simply combining the primary colors together (y'know... if you also include _shades_ like how you get white, black, and gray).
@@lasercraft32 yeah exactly what I had in mind!
I feel like we're hearing a story about how Arlo met his future wife. You can see how much he cares about this series, how every word sounds like he's savoring it - It would be fantastic to see a livestream of his first play through and seeing how he processes everything as it's happening in real-time.
For all we know he might actually be married to Pikmin.
He said he’s streaming all the pikmin games over on his twitch channel
Arlo single-handedly writing the Pikmin manifesto is everything I need
Everytime Arlo talks about Pikmin gives me the biggest smile on my face, the inner child within him blossoms out and it always brings me joy. :3
You know, watching all this footage, I’m reminded how much 3 captains was used in Pikmin 3. It feels so weird to go back to 1 captain, and all the implications that’ll have for level design. It was super cool to do puzzles with 3 captains imo
Love that oatchi is sneezing while Arlo gives his very inspirational monologue
Peace be upon you folks. I just realized ALL 4 Pikmin games are now on Switch! :] that’s…truly wonderful. And a great way to promote a series! Btw Arly I would 100% watch a let’s play you make of Pikmin 4 :D
Well, not yet
I absolutely love that they put 1 & 2 on switch. It allows someone to catch up on the series before Pikmin 4 comes out
The new time UI is small in the corner in 4 not just for efficiency reasons, since the perspective is a lot more thrid person than bird's perspective the old UI would cover a lot of the backgrounds and - more importantly - flying/ jumping enemies would be less visiable. To me this seems like a necessary change. (Although, I'm a bit sad to see it gone, too...)
Arlo is the biggest pikmin fan and the most loyal. Doesn’t matter if I end up liking it, if Arlo loves it, that’s all that matters to me :)
Arlo single-handedly conducting the Pikmin hype train.
He is
Well tell him I’m on it.
This man is gonna sell millions of copies
“Should we tell him”
Other pikmintubers: am I a joke to you?
The fact that Pikmin 1 and 2 are more of a remake than a port is incredible the Pikmin have new ui and on top of that you can throw different Pikmin types without disassembling all of them is a game changer
I’m just learning that you had to disassemble them to throw different kinds before. Maybe I’m just spoiled from 3 being my first pikmin game, but that sounds like it would make the game a nightmare
I’m glad they changed the bomb pikmin so that if you throw them they don’t blow themselves up any more. Way less stressful lol
@@skitty1265 facts also pelt posey don’t need you to call the Pikmin back and throw another one
You could throw different types without disassembling them in 2 already. It's just a button press and rotates between the colors if you're holding one.
Used to do that all the time to help speed up purples
@@zerogravitee yea but I’m Pikmin one it was the worst part of the game not being able too I was mostly referring to the ui when talking about 2
Funny enough, my biggest want for Pikmin 4 right now is to see the Emperor Bulblax come back, he was unused in 3 and they could’ve brought him back in the 3DX postgame but didn’t, and I just want to see him again
He’ll probably be in the game since empress bulblax is confirmed.
Just please make it the way it was in Pikmin 1 so that it’s not an absolute joke.
@@berry.1uvrSadly not happening because too many pathetically complained that the game wouldn't hold their hand.
@@berry.1uvrwith less HP since it will not be a final boss, in 1 it was a tank.
Bloody hell, that's fast
So maybe just like how a night flying moth is attracted to light?
My life goal is to be as excited about anything as Arlo is about Pikmin
It's nice that, although Arlo doesn't like Hey! Pikmin, at least he can acknowledge how great that game's soundtrack really is and uses it in his videos!
It's because a bad game can have a good soundtrack, but a good game can't have a bad soundtrack. Obviously not saying Hey Pikmin is bad, though. I haven't played it
@@Gloomdrakelike sticker star

@@daniellebackus819 no offense, but that's just you having poor taste
@@Gloomdrakea good game can definitely have a bad soundtrack.
I had hoped that the day/night modes were seamless, but it seems like you're restricted to "normal" gameplay during the day and you still have to get back to base by sundown, and the nighttime gameplay is it's own separate mode where - like you said - you can only use the special pikmin.
I still remember your reaction to the Hey Pikmin reveal from back then. The difference in reaction to this is pretty flagrant!
I love when Arlo turns Robert Frost on us, especially when it’s about something he’s happy about
Slightly off topic but I love Arlo bringing up his nephew. He's clearly just so proud to be an uncle, and so proud of his nephew. It's sweet.
@@Moro_Wins after looking up what a rattlesnake egg magnet was, that sounds about right XD
also, now that I think about it, they'd probably see candy as an edible ore to be mined, and they'd name it all stuff like "Unbreakium" for jawbreakers or "sourite" for sweet tarts or sour drops, maybe even call pure sugar "sweet sand".
I really hope pikmin 4 blows up and the series gets the recognition it deserves
I think it’s gonna sell a small amount at launch, but that word of mouth from both excited fans and new players will make it pick up steam over time, and it’ll ultimately do pretty well.
About the Glow Pikmin: being able to throw a bunch all at once sounds interesting, but I don’t want them to go off like a bomb and win most of the fight in an instant.
i'm not even a pikmin fan but that ~90 second opening metaphor brought a tear to my eye and a smile to my face
If the pikmin are using Olimar for evil, why are there pikmin on your side fighting against him?
@@stuffstuff3455could be a rival hive, no? They were being outcompeted by Olimar's superior planning abilities, so they sought out a Captain of their own
@Gloomdrake the Ai no uta song shows that pikmin are benevolent.
Besides, how would the pikmin cause the ships to crash in all three games?
If they had that kind of power, they wouldn't need a captain.

I was 6 when Pikmin 3 came out and 7 or 8 when I got it. Now I’m 15 and I’ll be 16 when Pikmin 4 comes out. Can’t wait!
I would love to see a gamemode of randomly generated caves that go on forever and the goal is to see how long you last, like in the beginning it could have simple enemies like the blowhogs and then it could go into night enemies who are more aggressive and then it could go into bosses and maybe at some point fight multiple bosses at once
Inagine the Glow Pikmin are the spirits of fallen Pikmin from past games
Man, I missed the times of pikmin 3 hype and watching tons of theory videos, I’m glad to have seen it again
So he must be freaking out since mario rpg counts as paper mario and we get pikmin 1 and 2.
you guys are pumping these videos out holy cow. Great work Kane and Arlo!

I am pretty sure I clicked on this , not because Pikmin, but , just the enjoyment derived from seeing another person be so excited about something.
My favourite part of the Direct, was the knowledge Arlo would freak out over this
What you said at the end was really applicable to me.
