I think someone who smashed major league pitchers like that even for a season and a half deserves some respect. That was an epic hot streak that a handful of hitters have ever experienced.
In about like 2013 or 2014 my dad made Matt Hollidays pool. He said he saw Jackson and Ethan just playing outside playing basketball and they greeted him and like even asked him in and stuff. That family is so nice.
This list is mostly of extending payments over a longer time, with a "okay" benefit to the player (player is owed $8M up front or 3 years of payments for $3M or even 25 years of $500K). Davis deal is the same...he was owed roughly $59M ($42M for the 2016 deal and 17M for 2022) and he's getting $59M total. Soriano was owed $14M....and he's getting $18M. The point is for the most part other then Bonilla....what the others are getting is fair. As he's getting roughly 5X what was owed.
Yk I rly think the adhd thing hurt Chris Davis more than age, taking it for that long then suddenly having to stop is a big change, and mlb’s policy on it is fucked.
Part of his contract with the angels was a 10 year, $1 mil/year "personal services" deal for after he retired. No clue what specific services, but I saw a headline that he planned to honor it
Bobby's contract would have been a smart move for the Wilpon's if the Madoff ponzi scheme was real, but history proved that one to be a loser on all sides.
@dtown1621 I'm actually surprised no one else has commented or asked questions. Not sure this is common knowledge for the kiddos who were born in the 90s or 2000s.
After Davis signed that huge contract with the Os thanks to Peter Angelos interference with his baseball people he never hit over 200. That contract forced the Os to loose some key personal. One of the worst signings ever in Baseball history
These deferments are joint team/player agreements, of course, so no issues. The mets deciding to pay Bonilla for 25 years on a $5M buyout.......thats just stupid and whoever signed off on that one shouldn't be allowed near a budget ever again. The mother of all deferments will be Ohtani of course. But that Bonilla thing......damn.
Is there an inflation adjustment built into the calculation of the future payment amounts? Otherwise, players would be taking a big hit and owners would be making out big time. Bonilla's last year playing was 2001. If Bonilla, or an owner, had taken $1,193,248 and put it into an S&P 500 index fund on 10/1/2001, it would be worth $3,403,395 today. And that's without reinvesting income.
Bernie Madoff sold the Mets owners on the fact that he could get them 10 X on their investments so instead of paying $5 million to Bonilla they decided to pay him $25 million over 25 years because they could take that $1 million and turn it into $10 million every single year
I’m an old guy… Help me out. When a player starts collecting their deferred payment, does it go against the team payroll at the time? ex. When Shohei Ohtani starts collecting 10 years from now does it affect the Dodgers payroll then? And why? Or why not?
My buddy played in the league briefly and told me Chris Davis was the biggest d bag he ever met. I asked him if he acted like that when he was putting up decent numbers and he said it was 100 times worse when he couldn’t hit the ball.
To tell you guys the truth deferred money is very team friendly. You sign people with present value but you pay them in future value. 1.2 mil in 2009 was worth more than today 1.2 million can’t get you as much as back then this ofc is an example. Same logic how babe Ruth made only like 900k when that’s actually how worth 20 mil so whenever someone asks would you rather have a dollar now or a dollar a month from now. Take the money today
I know that black dude who caught Griffey ball idk if he was fake throwing it or really actually throwing the ball back I bet if he see this video he'd feel like a fool😂😂😂
Would be so nice to see one of these guys do the right thing and turn down the rest of the money. If they were worth it then yes hell ya keep it. NONE of these dudes deserve to keep on getting paid.
You make Bonilla sound like a great player, but I notice you mention only his batting stats. Take a look at his defensive stats or better yet watch video and you'll see his defense was absolutely cringe-worthy. Teams couldn't figure out where on the field to hide him...and he did not want to DH. His base-running and base stealing were lower than average.
the fact that chris davis is still being paid is shocking to me. Most people who started following baseball recently don’t even know who he was
He was the worst player I’ve ever seen when he was cold
@@Lgz009when he was hot he was Crush Davis
@@anythingsports9881 by the time I started following teams other than my main team he was terrible
I think someone who smashed major league pitchers like that even for a season and a half deserves some respect. That was an epic hot streak that a handful of hitters have ever experienced.
His 0-54 is definitely what most people know him for
Bobby Bonillia was smart. Defer payment after retirement to keep getting paid.
Mr. Walker; W/accrued interest, I'm somewhat surprised that Bonilla doesn't OWN the Mets.
basically an 8% annuity
In about like 2013 or 2014 my dad made Matt Hollidays pool. He said he saw Jackson and Ethan just playing outside playing basketball and they greeted him and like even asked him in and stuff. That family is so nice.
don’t forget eric hosmer making 15mil til 2026
Wrong, it's until after next season. Done in 2025
Wait, Greinke hasn’t officially announced his retirement yet.
Grienke announces nothing. You just listen.
EXACTLY! He’s also JUST 21 strikeouts away from 3,000 k’s!
I thought the Royals would have added him at year end as a bullpen piece. Maybe when the rosters expand in a couple of weeks.
Greinke is 21 strikeouts away from the magical 3000k's.
Ohtani’s contract of 90% deferment also changed how we looked at the MLB contracts.
Red Sox fan. Manny was so much fun to watch at the plate. Loved him. And Miggie did that as a catcher. That is unbelievable
Man I miss watching Griffey JR play baseball. I remember when I fast saw him play back in 1990 and he quickly became one of my favorite players.
I'm a cubs fan, and Matt Holliday was the first signature I ever got at an MLB game too.
Chris Davis is not “a joke”. He got over on all of us in terms of money earned.
Fun fact, Bobby Bonilla went to the Braves right after he got his contract bought out by the Mets… 😎

that Chris Davis contract is NUTS
Griffey did it when majority of the league was juicing and he stayed clean says a lot for his goat status.
Idk if Griffey was clean
Love your content Marc, keep up the great work ;)
Bruce Sutter was still getting paid by the Braves until a few years ago, getting his last check right before he died, and he last pitched in 1988
Great video. As a Sox fan I am happy manny and Dustin are still getting paid
Celebrate Bobby bonilla day every year
This is called a deferred contract. It's pretty much de rigeur in all three main leagues right now. Why is any of this surprising?
This is the most Mets video. And yes I’m a die hard Yanks fan but asks any Met fan about Bonilla and they will list all other deferred contracts
The sad thing is Chris Davis wasn’t the first first baseman with that last name that the Orioles overpaid for.
While Eddie Murray had 10 more productive years. Brutal.
Yk I rly think the adhd thing hurt Chris Davis more than age, taking it for that long then suddenly having to stop is a big change, and mlb’s policy on it is fucked.
"And thats why the mets invented paying retired players"
Shut up, ur not funny.
As a red sox fan the predoria injury hurts
I'm a jays fan and he was my favorite player growing up
The GOAT, Bobby Bonilla
This is the greatest channel of all time
Does Albert Pujols have a deferred contract with the Angels? I thought I heard that.
Part of his contract with the angels was a 10 year, $1 mil/year "personal services" deal for after he retired. No clue what specific services, but I saw a headline that he planned to honor it
great vid, very interesting to know how much money is going to these retired guys
Real reason NO owner should ever offer any long term contract.
More of these kinds of videos. They're my favorite that you do
Great vid. Subbed.
What about Prince Fielder?
Shohei will be on this list soon. 😂
This video in 10 years will just be the dodgers 😂
Ken griffys contract just got finished being paid
The only time Predoria is 5’9 is when he is standing on a 3 inch phone book
Bobby is the goat!!!!
Bret Saberhagen $250,000 per year from 2004 through 2028.
I'm somewhat surprised that Jason Giambi isn't on this list.
this is why bobby bonilla is making the MOST money out of any player still getting paid
Greinke played his last two seasons for the Royals, so why are the Astros paying him?
Don’t forget Didi making 2 mil till 2026 from the Phillies
I'm pretty sure Paul Konerko is still on the South Siders payroll also
Nice jersey man!
2035!? That is crazy
Crush Davis was such a beast
We are still paying Hosmer unfortunately 😞
Bobby's contract would have been a smart move for the Wilpon's if the Madoff ponzi scheme was real, but history proved that one to be a loser on all sides.
I was looking for this comment lol
@dtown1621 I'm actually surprised no one else has commented or asked questions. Not sure this is common knowledge for the kiddos who were born in the 90s or 2000s.
10:03 Griffey’s last payment was in June or July
Even Mark isn't immune to the bots
i have a hard time believing mark is 170lbs. i would’ve guessed 130-140
Braun should just come back and play for the crew he can hit 250 in his sleep.
Happy belated Bobby Bonilla day to everyone...
I agree about holiday about the hall of very good. Dont believe he will get in. But its so water3d down he just might
Can my Angels do that to Anthony Rendon? Will do more for us if he stayed home than what he did with us and take Arte Moreno too if possible
After Davis signed that huge contract with the Os thanks to Peter Angelos interference with his baseball people he never hit over 200. That contract forced the Os to loose some key personal. One of the worst signings ever in Baseball history
Could the Mets force Bonilla onto the field in 2024? Lol.
Stephen Strasburg?
Babe Ruth is still getting paid from the Yankees… that was shocking.

you could probably add some more players in a few years with money mlb is giving out every year.
Manny been Manny 😂😂
I forgot, Jacoby Ellsbury.
Bret Saberhagen $250,000 from the Mets that started in 2004 and runs through the 2028 season
He’s another Bernie Madoff benefactor
When did each player retire! You miss the whole point about being paid about being paid after retirement!
Will Smith of LA will be getting paid until 2038.😮
Albert Pujols will be collecting $1 Million a year from the Angels thru 2030
Manny is worth every penny, pedroia aswell.
How about Jose Abreu getting $20,000,000 this year and next?
I’m an old guy… Help me out. When a player starts collecting their deferred payment, does it go against the team payroll at the time? ex. When Shohei Ohtani starts collecting 10 years from now does it affect the Dodgers payroll then? And why? Or why not?
No it doesn’t, just has to be payed off
@@thomaswhitaker5998 thanks for the info… Then I guess every team should do that.
Josh was powered by his beard.

July 1st is a great day every year. Just another reason to laugh at the Mets!

Nice jersey.
you forgot davis got paid for batting lousy for a long time.
Anthony Rendon is missing from the list.
Sports fans are always so bitter about players making more money than them
might have to do a pt 2 lol
Bobby Bonilla's payment isn't that high, especially by today's standards
Someone told me that the meds Davis was taking wasn't prescribed so idk how true that is
Fast forward!!! Shohei??? He will be the king!!!!
Chris Davis man 😢
I know that black dude who caught Griffey ball idk if he was fake throwing it or really actually throwing the ball back I bet if he see this video he'd feel like a fool😂😂😂
I’ll give u a 2b better than Pedroia. His name is Robinson Cano
Blame the pinheads who agreed to those deals, then passed the costs onto the fans. 😠
Question, are these payouts inflation adjusted? If not, they ain’t great, the contracts aren’t even good, BOO!
Would be so nice to see one of these guys do the right thing and turn down the rest of the money. If they were worth it then yes hell ya keep it. NONE of these dudes deserve to keep on getting paid.
Chris Davis picked up his check every week wearing a ski mask because he was robbing the Orioles
mlb might be getting smarter if you go by this years contracts for only a year to three year contract.
With that neck alone i thought you were at least 6'
These are the same clubs that want me and you to pay for a brand new stadium for them not to play in.!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂

Gross, I forgot about ryan braun. As a cubs fan I hated that dude when i was growing up
Is Prince Fielder still getting paid?
Pet Peeve when someone says RBIs. Its just RBI. saying RBIs is like saying Runs batted Ins
Just like someone saying "P.O.'ed." Piss Offed? Doesn't make sense.
Like this comment if you love Bobby Bo for getting hurt as a cardinal to open a spot for one of the greatest players of all time. ;)
If you have ADHD, the league doesn’t let you take your meds? Wow
