Paul Goldschmidt might be the most underrated player in the MLB.
I think he's underrated just in the fact that no one ever brings him up despite him being one of the best 1st baseman for his entire career. Also a defensive beast there too.

Also I looked up the walk off and apparently the Cardinals have only had two walk off grand slams in the past 14 years(including the one tonight). And they have both been against the Blue Jays. I think you understate Devers defense at the moment. Yes, in years past he has definitely been at the bottom of the leaderboard when it comes to defense, but this year he has made some big changes, and hasn't dipped below top 15 in OAA among all third baseman. currently playing slightly above average defense at third and is easily top 3 at the position so far this year.
xander and devers have both been AT LEAST average defenders this year, think this guy is still a bit too hung up on the past, which is fair, but still worth noting

Very true. Both Xander and Raffy have had average to above average defense this year. Baseball fans have to acknowledge this.

Gotta disagree that Kershaw is just slightly underrated, I thinks he’s very underrated at this point. I find it wild that people think his career is done when he still is one of the best pitchers in the league still. Yeah, he gets injured more and he isn’t prime Kershaw but past prime Kershaw can can headline most teams rotations today and not just because of past performance

Never heard anyone underrate Kershaw. His issue now is going to be can he stay on the mound. Eventually the greats bodies just break down.
He isn’t reliable. Kershaw unfortunately has at best 8 more starts before he blows his arm out and is done for his career

Man, TA7 not even being on this list hurts. He's the best player on the White Sox no questions, dude puts up career highs almost every year and even if he isn't the greatest defensively, he makes up for it with his consistency everywhere else.

Cole has had one bad playoff start, it’s insane to say that he’s bad in big games. If anything he was probably still dealing with an injury because it was a really bad month for him heading into that game.

He’s underrated in the way that no one brings him up as much as his talent warrants. Realistically, he should be talked about constantly due to his talent, but what new things could anyone even bring to the conversation? Marc isn’t saying that he’s bad or anything; it’s just that he isn’t as mentioned as he should be.
@@pattongilbert it’s his personality really, mike trout is the most boring superstar in the game. Everyone knows he’s the best player, he’s not underrated he’s just not very marketable. The injuries really only hurt his chances at being qualified for the mvp award and he still usually ends up top 5 in voting.

Frankie Lindor: Hits .230 with a 101 OPS+ on a 340MM contract. Perfectly rated.

Devers' defense is way less damming than you think. He's been very solid at 3B this year, top 15 defender at the position. That narrative is dying fast. Xander though... that's who you should advocate to be the next DH in Boston.
Devers is very solid defensively, he’ll never be elite simple as that.

@@m33nboy within the first quarter of the season, no one’s disregarding the steps he’s made forward or how elite he still is due to his bat but realistically no he will never be considered an elite defensive 3rd basemen.

Nimmo has always been one of the most underrated players in baseball. Elite OBP, great glove, above average power. Since his first full season, his bWAR/162 is over 5. He'd be an improvement to most teams.

The thing is, the cole vs degrom conversation has to include availability and degrom just isn’t available enough. Yes when he’s healthy he’s amazing but he’s barely there sadly
Cant argue with that. Only thing to add to that is that degrom has been just as good in a small sample size this season as he was last season before the sticky stuff ban. Cole on the other hand was amazing before the sticky stuff ban and has been struggling mightily compared to what he used to be.

A very agreeable tier list. Brandon Nikki and Jose Ramirez are two of my favorite players in the mlb
Both are incredibly underrated. Nimmo is seen as an average player who is really a top 35 player and Jose Ramirez is seen as a good player but who is actually a top 5 player and a future hall of famer.

Edman, Bader, Yepez, Mikolas, and the new Nolan Gorman who will be rookie of the year. Oneal hasn’t really been feeling it this year.

Agree on Bellinger. I think he can be great but his batting approach needs drastic change. Also, the Dodgers should trade him while he still has some perceived value.
Bryant is in the Jeter tier. When 50% say overrated and 50% say underrated he ends up averaging out to just right. Even if very few fans are accurate.

I would consider wander to be slightly overrated. He’s hitting 260 with a 700 ops and people we’re acting like he’s the next coming of Tony Gwynn. I know it’s early but he’s really not that impressive

“Devers is awful on the field,” I don’t think so. He’s kinda figured it out now and he’s honestly not that bad. Acuna should be slightly underrated. Shohei should be slightly overrated if not overrated seeing how good he was last year and that he’s the cover of the show 22.

Love the content Marc, but I am struggling with you not judging Bobby Witt Jr and Julio Rodriguez on their first few months of the season yet ignore the last year or 2 of several players and judge them solely on the first 2 months. For example, Lindor has to be at least slightly overrated because, as you say, he hasn't performed like in Cleveland and in my opinion that's how he needs to be viewed. Would love to see this done again later in the season and judged based on your top player rankings coming into the season and how the player performed this season.
He gave Lindor way too much of a pass. First, his defense has slipped a little. His bat is nowhere near where it was in Cleveland. Lindor needed to be in the overrated section.
Mookie is def a slightly underrated player at this point.

Brandon nimmo is definitely underrated because he has value beyond just stats. His plate discipline makes him a great lead off hitter

I might be a tad biased because I’m a diehard Braves fan but Ozzie Albies I would put in the properly rated category became of his defensive consistency and his clutch hitting. To be fair, I do agree that the Mets have two of the most underrated players in baseball in Jeff McNeil and Brandon Nimmo.

That guy is a hitting machine.
Got Aaron Judge right. People look at some stats and ignore all the context. For example, his strikeouts. Look at his at bats for a week and you will see he gets about 2 ridiculously low strikes called against him ever 3 at bats. Now there's no way to know what he would do with that extra strike, some of them came with a 3 ball count and should have been walks. I honestly believe his strikeouts would be lowered by around 25-30% if we had a computer calling balls and strikes.
Then there's him being "injury prone" which may be the biggest myth in modern baseball. His only "recurring" injury is the oblique. Other than that, he's had a broken wrist from a HBP, A rib injury after landing weird on a diving play and the shoulder injury he suffered crashing into the wall. He gets hurt by flukes and because he plays all out.
Then there's the people who say he's a strike out or a homer, which if true, based on his batting average, he would have roughly 190 or so home runs every year. He bats around .280, has monster power, can run the bases well, has above average speed, one of the best defensive right fielders, fearless going after the play with not just a cannon for an arm, but one that is as accurate as any I've ever seen.
Aaron Judge, is really, Really, REALLY great at playing baseball. Easy top ten, maybe top 5 and in any given season he may be the best.
Looking at this Julio Rodriguez could be the next Aaron Judge except hopefully with not many injuries
Your right judge gets those bullshit low ball clearly out the zone strikes called against him but There's players who strike out way more than judge like OTHANI & judge is a much better all around hitter than he was 5 years ago a full healthy season last year shows that & for a guy who's so called "all or nothing " is currently hitting .326 & #1 in total bases this year

After the first month of the season, Wander Franco has been HORRIBLE. Hate to say it but he might be looking even a little overrated right now. He has dropped from a top statistical player in the early goings to about average. Which means his last 15 games have been dog
I think these are pretty accurate! Only thing id disagree with is mookie not being slightly underrated. He has somewhat of a “down” year last year but currently has 10 hrs, with a 154 ops+, leads the league in runs and the ridiculous defense in the outfield, i think its hard not to call him a top 10 player and fully expect him to make another mvp run this year
Cole might not be able to pitch a big game however, Degrom will never get the chance.

I am sorry marc, but to say that Rafael Devers is a terrible fielder is just wrong, he only has 2 errors this season has increased his range, he makes the crazy plays and has taken better routs to the ball. if u want to watch him field then go check out some highlights. He is still young but everyone around baseball is saying how much of a better defender he is so before u call him a terrible defender and a DH, just look at the 2022 stat line. all love ❤🔥

Ngl, I was one of the people who didn't think that Trout is the best player in the Majors coming into this season, and boy I was wrong. I'm happy that I'm wrong tho. About Mookie- maybe it's me being a Dodgers fan, but I still do think Mookie is a top 10 players in the league. In fact, in the beginning on the season I said he'll bounce back to be a borderline top 5 players, if not a sure top 5 players. So I do think he's slightly underrated and he's probably the best player on our team rn. Guys like Trea Turner, Freeman, Walker, and even Kershaw are still up there of course
Luis Arraez most underrated player in baseball. He plays outfield, 3rd base, 1st base, and consistently bats over .300 every year.
Man I really love how much Harper and Machado have matured three years ago Harper and Machado would be at the top of the list and overrated now they are both underrated
I really hope no one has given up on Julio yet. He is absolutely crushing the ball this last month of the season, and now owns a .274/.325/.401 slash line with a 119 wrc+ for the year. If you just take his stats since April 28, he is slashing .326/.368/.472 which is good for a 154 wrc+. Also has been playing an extremely good center field. He is legit, and after a pretty slow start has been absolutely raking. He already might be a top 30 position player in baseball.
As a Phillies fan I assumed Marc would be bias and say Bryce was over after
