@@Sub-zero1123 He explained in this week in gaming that he didn't know he received a code until quite late, hence the late review. I think the comparisons he makes in the video to the first two films are evidence enough that he's a big Robo fan.
ngl RC3 sucks, but it makes perfect sense for Murphy to have a jetpack, he can't be burned, he's the only "person" it would actually work for, his legs wouldn't get burned like any other human.
With Terminator: Resistance they gave us a proper ending to the franchise and with Robocop: Rogue City they gave us the real Robocop 3 we wanted. I hope Teyon does a Dredd game next. Do a sequel to the underrated 2012 movie. That world is begging for and action packed game and get Karl Urban back to do the voice.
Well I'd still like another high quality (compared to the other games in the franchise) Terminator game from 'em, it doesn't have to be a definitive closure to the franchise, just another game set in that part of the Terminator universe as another bad ass fightin' for John Connor, but I agree it'll be cool to see where they go from here as far as classic franchises go.
These devs Terminator and Robocop games have some jank here and there but God damn they are actual love letters to the fans of the franchises they are based upon. I'd love for them to do a Judge Dredd game one day.
@@lightsarelow6455 Especially such one based on the 2012 movie. Good lord, that movie was freaking AWESOME! Kind of a shame we never got a show or sequel or both with Karl Urban as Judge Dredd working alongside his partner Anderson again. :(
@@DialloMoore503starfield, cod mw3 with its open world sections in campaign and zombies, far crys, all Ubisoft games, I mean I could go on but literally most games besides sports games are built around some open world aspect.
What I love about this game is the attention to detail the devs made with the source material. I wish more devs cared about movie licensing like this one does. Fantastic game.
Seeing Teyon go from Rambo: The Video Game to Robocop: Rogue City makes me so happy. It’s clear they’ve been improving with each game in recent years and have a love for the source material they base their games on. Glad to see Robocop: Rogue City is a solid experience. Will be interested to see what they do next.
@@steffon563 While I think Robocop is the better game, Terminator Resistance is really good for fans of the first two films. The way they wrote that game into the overarching canon was surprisingly excellent.
murphy’s journey has always been about choosing between supporting humanity or the state. to be seen as a folk hero or as robocop. it makes perfect sense that he would save cats and fix cars, he is still human. the game is using its gameplay, rather than just dialogue, to explore that theme. in other words, the real meat of the story is buried within a program’s internal mechanical systems. how very meta. how very robocop. this game is a masterpiece.
Funny, because I have never watched any Robocop movie and I think this game is great; even some of the stuff you criticized, like Robocops/Peter Wellers writing and voice line delivery or the absurd side quests, I thought was great and very fitting for the 80s-future b-movie setting. True to the source material or not; I loved it and it really gave me the urge to watch the movies (1+2), when before I never really had much interest in them.
Yeah, I'm a boomer who grew up with the films and this was definitely the right way to go for the series. Robocop for the new millenium; having fun with it and saving the gut punch for best effect. The silliness of the setup was obvious from the second film. Basically, no one is Paul Verhoeven but Paul Verhoeven and the only thing which saved the sequel from farce were flash imprints from the first one. Making this game entertaining and accessible first was wise for a premise that, while transgressive for its time, has sadly become part of routine discourse on the relationship between free-market economics and neo-fascism in 2023. I love Robocop too but what I remember most right now isn't the incisive and darkly funny commentary - it's mutant Emil being cut in half like an overripe courgette and I love it.
The RoboCop movie is a masterpiece and you'll love it. Just don't watch RoboCop 3 as it's trash and an injustice to the franchise (pun intended). Shillup is 100% correct, the game is the third movie
I'm playing through it now and had the same question and I think maybe the only barrier to entry is whether or not you accept that this is an 80s movie. If you can, you can really just hand wave the rest of the game away and accept the premise and style
I really hope Teyon gets some solid writing talent and start work on the next Robocop game. While I do agree with SkillUp on the narrative shortcomings, the new characters like Ulysses, Pickles and the psychologist lowkey grew on me, so it would be awesome to see them again, with a writing glow-up to boot.
I really liked the psychologist. Pickles was probably my least favorite character easily and I'm perfectly happy to give him the "bad" ending. Ulysses was a bit annoying at first but I think his quests were actually quite decent
Yeah I agree, I don't fully agree with skillup on this take. I felt like the wiring and characters was pretty serviceable and I enjoyed Robo's derpy throw away lines.
The game hapens between Robocop 2 and 3, so he's suposed to talk more, as he becames more "humanized" at each movie. I think the game's depiction of Robocop is on point. Same for Lewis. Can't find anything wrong about her
I agree. Lewis IS a badass, but she’s also very caring and protective of Murphy. She can be both of those things. They aren’t mutually exclusive. Their (platonic) relationship is one of my favorite things about the property, and about this game. I was a little disappointed that she got sidelined for a bit of the game, but it helps push Murphy without wasting her like RoboCop 3 did. As far as Robo himself, yeah, this takes a lot of queues from the entire franchise, including the series, wherein he talks and interacts with people a lot more by necessity. It’s not out of character, just based on Robo in general, not ONLY Weller’s performance in the first two films. One of the main things about RoboCop 2 that doesn’t work is that they walked his humanity back with no explanation. This brings it back where it should be after the first movie, IMO.
@@MattKayser i thought they left her aside for some extent cause doesn't make sense, gameplay -wise, to Robocop to have a sidekick or companion troghout all the game
@@ericjpdt true, but it also motivates Murphy to go after the bad guy in an emotional way that doesn’t ruin her character at the same time, so I’m good with it 😆
@@MattKayser Yeah, they made the whole act to work really well. As for Robocop 2, I allways find him to be more talkative after he takes the eletric shock. I thought he acting more robotic trough the first part of the movie is because he's accepting what the OCP guy told him, and trying to left his wife behind, cause he believes he's doing no good to her. Sorry for the writing,i'm a not a english native
@@ericjpdt that’s a good way to look at it. I also think he humanizes a bit after shocking himself, so that makes sense. And there’s no need to apologize for your English. There are some people where it’s the only language they know, and they are still awful at speaking it 😂
RoboCop: Rogue City is a low key triumph, especially because it celebrates the franchise and doesn't try to "modernize" it (rightfully pointed out in the review). I am love. I'd like to see Teyon take a swing at Judge Dredd, since Rebellion isn't willing to do anything with it.
I was actually OK with Robocop and how he speaks simply because it's an evolution of his character from the movies. As in, he's still trying to bring back his humanity, however, he has issues sounding natural. Which is evident in the movies in almost every single line he delivers. And by now in the timeline, he'd be at least attempting to talk/act more like a human and probably failing at it...but failure is part of learning. So, at least in my mind, I have been OK with a lot of his dialogue. However, I do wish he was slightly less chatty at times so when he does deliver the bad ass lines, they truly stand out.
this right here, the fact that the murphy we know finally have a chance (movie and game side) in learning how to be human again kinda cute in goofy way.
On the topic of the two mayor candidates, if I recall correctly the first time you talk to mayor Kuzak he tells you to ignore Mills because even if you trashtalk him he's just gonna shift it into Robocop promoting him. Which is why the game always puts the "Talk to the mayor candidate" tasks as optional. At that point my brain just made the connection that they secretly record your conversations and edit them to suit their election campaign.
@@kingnull2697 SkillUp's takes on RoboCOP doing, you know, ordinary police things strikes me as exactly the kind of opinion you would expect a man who makes his living off playing video games would have.
@@Chuckler127 Yeah, I also dislike how he used the "cat finding" quest to illustrate RoboCop doing pointless busywork. That quest was IMO quite smartly written and hilarious. He basically uses this silly task to show the new guy the ropes and conducts this cat rescue as if it was some serious investigation, e.g. swapping bloody footprints for a broken jar of jam that the cat toppled and walked through etc. IDK if it's just me, but it seemed like a pretty fun concept to me.
Just wrapped up my second playthrough and 100% completion. I can't express how happy this game made me feel. It's the love letter to Robocop he deserves, this is the game I was playing in my head when I was a kid and Robocop for the NES was in front of me.
@@tbone9474 Exactly. There were a few points throughout that made me feel that way, like the stuff with Lewis, too. Making the question about Murphy's humanity be such a focal point of the story was a great idea. Also, if someone doesn't feel SOMETHING when that music swells up then then they have no soul.
@Anto_Skum agreed, I would complain that his theme didn't come until the end but... by then it feels earned, especially with the mercenaries and Wendell losing their minds over how you're just mowing them down

GAME DEVS TAKE NOTE We want you to treat the source material with respect. THIS is how it's done. Stop trying to take a beloved franchise, and inventing your own "twist" with shit nobody cares about, or "reinterpreting" the franchise with your own vision. If you're going to make a Robocop game, make a ROBOCOP game. This applies to all of those other Licensed Franchise games out there (And TV shows. Looking right at you , HALO TV Series) Seriously, thank you Robocop team.
Dev teams don't have to cater to your preferences. If you don't like a particular studio's interpretation of an IP, just don't buy the damn game. It's incredibly self sentered to declare that ALL dev studio's are not allowed to have their on interpretation of a particular idea because of your own prefereces. There are many succesful pieces of art that takes a completely different approach to an IP than its original iteration. Why restrict the artists vision? One can interpret an IP in a different way while still respecting it.
@@adriaanlips9479 The problem, I think, is that too few developers respect the IP. They see it as a vehicle to deliver whatever it is they want delivered. The reason why there are statements like the OP's is most likely due to the consumers lacking the trust that the developers can create a proper respectful interpretation of the IP or stroy, and is settling for second best, which is a faithful recreation of the original. At least with the recreation, we can still enjoy it due to its ties with the original, instead of gambling on the developer's respect or interpretation.
@@adriaanlips9479 but they do have to cater to people if they want their game to sell. if no one buys the game the studio goes bankrupt we have the power to take away the dev teams jobs, they should respect that and make what we want.
I don't see the issue with Murphy doing simple chores and heavy lifting for his fellow cop colleagues, place tickets and doing literally what every single good cop does for the living. and about him talking too much and cracking jokes, I can see why because the game takes place after Robocop 2 and Murphy by that point became more human and less robotic so ofc he talks alot.Expecting him to still sound robotic and monotone actually defeats the entire purpose and point. Yeah sure he's badass and all for taking down all those thugs by his own,A feat not a single cop couldn't achieve. But beneath that metal exterior,is still Murphy,A Cop with a good heart, try his damn best to make a difference and to be a genuine cop through and through. and that cat quest really helped me appreciate him and see him a more underappreciated new perspective far more than to simply remember him as the super cop who kills thugs in the most gruesome manner
Unless I'm taking crazy pills I remember Lewis having a softer side too. She's tough when she needs to be, but she shows a lot of concern for Murphy and others in the movie.
Yeah I was a bit surprised by SkillUp's take on this too. In the first movie she absolutely is the "human touch" that brings Murphy back. She first recognizes that it's him, she keeps rooting for him, supports him emotionally, brings him the mirror to look at etc. For most of the movie she's basically the only human who has faith in him and cares for him. And it's very clear that she is the main reason he pulls through.
@@SMJSmoKI don't think the issue was her showing concern, but more about how that was conveyed in the game vs in the films. The weak writing is really the issue in this case. Like he said, they overreached and couldn't really tighten up the plot and writing issues that the game has.

34:00 I would like for them to take a swing at a Dredd game. It's not like we're getting a sequel to an underappreciated movie with Karl Urban otherwise.
When people talk about Teyon understanding and nailing the tone of the original Robocop, I think the visual presentation is what's doing that for them. I notice that the developer took great care with their choice of lighting, color palette, shot composition, and even the camera focus speed (which is an awesome detail in particular) to capture the sense of the game taking place in the very same world as the movie. Teyon accomplishes this in a lot of the game's cut scenes, where if I look at what's being presented, my brain has to take a moment to recognize that this is not the original movie. That's pretty great. Unfortunately, because of the way that they chose to have information delivered to the player - and this ties into why Alex Murphy feels so off as a character as well - it's a common situation in Rogue City to have a jarring hard cut from cinematic excellence, to an NPC conversation in Starfield.
This studio has had a huge redemption arc from when they made rambo the game. You can tell they’re a passionate team that has been limited by budget. Terminator:Resistance was awesome and now Robocop: Rogue City I’d love to see them get a bigger budget after these past two games and perhaps take on an Aliens Game. They clearly love and respect some of the great properties of the 80s. Good on them!
You make some very good points and criticisms about this game. And I largely agree. However, I genuinely enjoyed the absurd mundane side missions, and unapologetically love this game. The tone, atmosphere, absurdity, exploration and light RPG gameplay, and of course the combat all just work for me. Definitely one of my games of the year.
I kind of disagree with your opinion on the story and humor. Yes sure, Robocop himself might say some silly things in the game. But the robocop movies always had a silly world like with all the random tv ads and "I'd buy that for a dollar" with everyone laughing out loud like its the best catch phrase ever. ED-209 falling down stairs and squeeling like a pig, it had a good mix of humour and over the top violence. But it also had drama with Murphy and his family. I loved the abandonned mall level where you go through murphy's mind in a glitchy nightmare sequence. I also love how the other police office consider murphy like he's just one of them and not a superhero, those little side quest might be stupid and boring to you, but to me they reinforce the idea that robocop is "half man, half machine... ALL COP!"
This game really surprised me. It could've been like a 5 hour terribly written janky cash grab fps like a lot of movie based games, but the plot was genuinely interesting. It was like getting a real continuation of the storyline. Then it has these small hub areas where you can do little side quests like it's an RPG and you get XP to level up skills, the gunplay is great, there's dialogue options. For a small budget studio that's mostly known for bad games they somehow created a genuinely good game. I don't mean good considering the budget. I mean just plain good in general.
We need more AA games like these. Used to get them all the time back in the day until major publishers decided all projects need to be $200 million live services
22:49 - I was confused by the supporting John Mills popup at first too but then I remembered that Mayor Kuzak, when you very first meet him, actually warns you about something like this happening. He says it's not just enough to not support him, you can't be *seen* to possibly be supporting him. Basically people spread rumors about who RoboCop supports based on what it looks like he's doing, not necessarily who he actually supports. If you want to not get the "You supported John Mills" flag then you need to straight up not go into his limo to talk to him. There's nothing you can say in that limo that changes it because all the bystanders see is RoboCop going into the limo to talk to the candidate. And that would be really annoying, possibly interesting, except you do get one opportunity toward the end where a reporter just *asks* RocoCop who he supports and you can just straight up declare your support for one or the other. That makes all the other previous encounters moot. That might annoy some people but personally I prefer the choice. The developers basically want you to stew a bit, worrying about unintended consequences affecting the campaign when in actuality they remember its game and they eventually do put all the power in your hands with a definite choice at the end.
They do show how well loved Lewis is in the department by having a quest where you gather signatures for a "get well soon" card, though. Even hardass Sgt. Reed wants to sign it
This is the perfect representation of "reviews are subjective," as you spent half of the video criticizing the game's mechanics and how it doesn't adhere to what is Robocop. And yet, despite being a Robocop fanboy, you still recommend it. Sometimes a game is more than a list of its pros and cons. Thank you for your honesty at the end and for yet another thorough review.
Can't agree with Murphy and Lewis. Lewis doesn't come across as 'maternal' - the line about the guy's wife is definitely sarcastic and she IS compassionate - you only need to see the first movie to know that. Also, Weller perfectly tapped into the personality (or lack of) of Murphy. He sounds perfect!
22:50 What if this was part of the satire of American politics that in essence says the system will force you to support the candidates because you don't get a real choice?
The weirdness reminds me more of the TV show. They used to try and make him more grounded at times. Drug PSA stuff, or finding puppies. It has that message of the day feel.
30:45 Yeah. That will be a no for me. If I want to play as the protege who will supplant his mentor and be the hero in everything in the end, there's already Spider-Man 2 for that. 32:26 Disagree with this. I watched a number of streamers who haven't seen any Robocop or only watched the first one a long time ago and they enjoyed this game.
I can forgive things like Lewis and Alex's voice being way off sometimes because they took the time to respect the source material and recreate it. Everything from the ED 209's growl to the basic feel of the world around you, how people talk and act. I can't point out too much without spoiling some things but it's not a purchase I regret. Sure it could have been better but it isn't terrible like Saints Row, not even fucking close. I'm hoping Teyon gets their hands on Judge Dredd and ALIENS. With how well they tackled Robocop and Terminator I think they'd do both justice. I was kind of expecting Robocop to be some on rail shooter but it has open world elements and free movement. I can only imagine how big and long the game could have been if they were bigger and had more money to throw behind the project.
Alex Murphy's voice is way off because it's been three and a half decades since Peter Weller was in the first two films, his voice has obviously changed a lot since then. That's who they got for the voice and likeness of Robocop, the original actor himself.
There’s also a piece of graffiti that says “they fix everything” with the ocp logo, which is what robocop says to Lewis at the end of the final fight in the first movie
Nice. This looks like its some real nostalgic fun to have. That being said , I'll wait for a nice Christmas deal on this game. Robocop is one of my favorite movie characters, and the dystopian world it takes place in is a very interesting premise.
I watched anothe video that showed the difference in speech. Robocop comes out saying something menacing and shoots everyone. Then the next clip is RoboCop says something about not doing that. I think it still end up in ashooting(don't have the game...yet) but the whole dialogue critique thing is a little biased.(considering starefield)
Not an IP I would have suggested for being given a video game out of nowhere but, a well made tie-in is a well made tie-in all the same, even if it's for movies that are now decades old. I'm suitably impressed given how we've seen other games based on old movies get completely phoned in. Definitely adding this to my wishlist.
Augh, I'm gonna be an uber-fan and point out that Frank Miller's script for Robocop 2 was mostly re-written. Miller's original script was adapted into a 9-issue comic series (called Frank Miller's Robocop) that's worth checking out... although by most accounts it's actually worse than the film, so don't go into it with super high expectations.
I'm one of those people that only seen Robocop movies years ago. Enjoyed them a lot, but never engaged with anything else Robocop. I think this game works even better for people like me, we have a vague memory of what it was. Rogue City delivers almost exactly what I wanted out of it. The inconsistencies that might bother bigger fans mostly go unnoticed for me. It still feels "right". Best spontaneous purchase of the year. Didn't know it existed, didn't know I wanted it, but Steam had a hunch and here we are. 😂
My goodness this game I've more fun than usual than anything else I've played in quite some time, Teyon studios absolutely nailed the ambience and atmosphere of the OG Robocop films, gosh I'd love more content, I'm loving it that much and I'm craving more, it's perfectly captures the essence of the 80's asthedic, and I love every single second of it
I’m on my third play through and it’s neat how you can play it differently. This play through is the first time I’ve put points into psychology, and it completely changes some things. GOTY for me.
I'm somebody who has never watched Robocop, but I know enough to understand the basics. Even with that shortfall in knowledge, I still love this game because of what it does. I enjoy going around as a walking tank shooting everybody in the room and blowing their minds. I also like the side content when it has things like him training a rookie everyone else hates or issuing parking tickets. I find it to be that he is still a regular cop at heart and so he takes time to do regular cop things. Just because he got all that armor, those cybernetics and the programming, that doesn't change who he is deep down.
RoboCop Rogue City, Dungeons and Dragon Honor Among Thieves, Netflix's One Piece, the Five Nights at Freddy movie and Baldur's Gate 3 all teach the same two important lessons this year, that everyone must take in 1. Have the original creator actively involved. Or, if that's not possible for various reasons. 2. Respect and love the damn source material! How hard can that be.
They are both played by Nancy Allen. To say she doesn't sound like herself is rediculous. Also... robocop dances when he gets new body. Shill is completely wrong. They nailed the robo 1 and 2 vibe Edit: used Allen likeness but different VA. Still sounds very similar
This whole video is false. The writing and acting in this game is perfect and matches the Robocop films. Teyon gets everything right with Rogue City. Lewis is portrayed perfectly as well as RoboCop himself. It should be known that Nancy Allen wanted to soften up her character of Lewis for the 3rd film so she didn't come off like a man trapped in a woman's body, that Lewis was still a feminine woman despite being a "hardened" cop. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about in this video! RoboCop is portrayed in the game exactly how he was in the films we all grew up with, and everything Teyon did in this game is a masterpiece!
I feel they made Lewis weaker to avoid people going "Oh here we go again, badass boss chick. How original these days". Showing how the modern stuff like that actually backfires.
I have to disagree on the point of being able to play as the rookie cop. Being torn away from the MC in games and forced to play a weaker character is never enjoyable for me on games. (The Mary Jane missions in Spiderman anyone?) As for the respect for the source material, I 100% agree.
While I've been thoroughly enjoying this game, the PS5 version needs some serious work to aid performance stability. It chugs heavily during many battles. I'd definitely advise folk who are sensitive to framerate drops to wait for patches to be released, or to wait for a sale. If you're not phased by such things, knock yourself out, it's a good game.
They didn't give her that hair to make her more masculine, short hair on women in the 80s was the actual style and this movie franchises catered to all of it from that era.
I got the whole "F*ck it! This is absurd, let's be absurd" vibe after 5 mins of playing the demo. Bought the game shortly after. Teyon made the right call with the tone of the game and yeah, it supports the added absurdity of modern videogame'y tropes.
I thought they did a better job with the movie characters than you did, but I agree that the tone is closer to Robocop 2 than the original. Overall I think they absolutely nailed it and I hope we get more AA games like this in the future.
You did support them, you talked to them, and like any douche in a Robocop universe, they will use that to promote themselves as Robocop favorite.... I noticed the same thing and I thought it was well done This game was awesome, it's been a long time since I bought a game that was worth it, if anything I just wish Robocop was LITERALLY tanky like people say in their reviews, people need to take conclusions from first missions in games
I've never seen Robocop ( :( ) but this game looks awesome. I just can't help but love the aesthetic and combat. I've been anticipating this since the first trailer, simply because it looks so authentic visually.
I disagree with your take on the writing for robocop's dialog. I feel like it's meant to be robotic but also like he's trying to bring his human side out. I may just be biased as Robocop is my favorite movie of all time and I would give anything just to hear Peter Weller in that role again. I personally love the journey of this game and how Robocop's sentience is a big component of the narrative. It fits with the sacrificial nature of his character to have you pick between ocp and sentience or Detroit and it's worthless mayor.
I never watched Robocop. But I’m around 60% through the game and going for the platinum trophy (as with every game). This game is great fun! The gameplay feels great, story got me intrigued to learn more about all the characters and their backstory and its a surprisingly polished and good looking game on PS5. Can only recommend!
@@therider04 I’ll try to soon, yes! I never watch movies or TV shows. Like one to two a year at best maybe. But if it’s available somewhere I’ll watch it.
So you basically proved skillup wrong. He said towards the end of the review that people who arent hardcore fans of the franchise wont like the game. But I suspect that this game will convert many people into robocop fans and will probably make them wanna watch the movies.
I most appreciate the little touches like when RoboCop arrives in the opening level, it's an almost perfect shot for shot recreation of Murphy stepping out of his police car. Metal foot hits the ground, Murphy pauses outside the car. Brilliant. Or when he leaves the police station and his car strikes sparks going up the ramp.
In a world of reboots and reimaginings that seem to hate that which came before yet made the IP so successful in the first place, there's something endearing about a game like this that shows a clear love for its source material. Something about that with getting the original voice actor, and clearly trying to flex their design muscles from previous works (even if that's not perfect), I'd much rather invest towards that than a AAA studio whose too busy riding previous success with disappointing bloat-filled titles. *cough*Sta-*cough
I'm having great fun playing this. I even stopped for a bit to rewatch the movie. Ok, the facial animations are terrible, but then you see reflections in the puddles which are excellent. And the game feels like it was made by true Robocop super fans. So many little touches from the movie, like when Pickles says "Business is where you find it". It's certainly not perfect, it has it's flaws, but still very enjoyable, especially anyone who loved the movie.
I have never seen any RoboCop movie and I enjoyed the hell out of this game! Even without knowledge of the source material it is still a solid old school shooter with nice gameplay. I love it!
Ralph, as said Robocop watcher that watched it once so and so years ago... I adored the demo for this and fully intend on buying this. It was like the BEST cheesy shooter I've played, and I did not tire of it.

This game 😂 man I enjoy my weekend RoboCop'n so damn much. There's is a bit of jank at times but once I strap into the armor and the theme song hits it doesn't matter. Not for everyone but fuck me, if you ever wanted to moonlight as a Robot Cop from the late 80s here ya go!
If it adds anything to your review, ShillUp, I'm one of those people who has never seen a Robocop movie and hasn't really been interested in the franchise for the most part, apart from a slight passing interest due to its influence on the (at the time) burgeoning cyberpunk genre. I am also a gamer who is frankly, extremely fed up with studios that buy the rights to a beloved existing franchise which they couldn't give a rat's ass about, shit out a game designed by committee to hit all the points for mass appeal and maximum marketability, and charge max MSRP plus additional microtransactions and/or "premium ultra-deluxe editions" with an extra gun and wallpaper or some shit like that. So when I see a game like Robocop: Rogue City come out, what I care about is not whether I am a pre-existing fan of the franchise or not. I don't even care that much about whether the game's mechanics are janky or the game has bugs or whatever. No, what I'm listening for is those magical words: "The developers clearly love this franchise." "This game makes you feel like the character." "This game was made for the fans of this franchise." I don't even care if I have *never in my life heard of* the franchise in question. With today's gaming industry the way it is, hearing one of those statements above is grounds for me to immediately either put the game on my wishlist for further research when I have the time, or to buy it outright and play it. Those statements are the mark of something special, something made with care and heart, and that is worth supporting in a world where everyone and their mother knows the surefire way to make money is to do the opposite of those things in service to marketability and monetizability over the fans.
@@Jim77781 He did, but with the caveat that he would only recommend it to hardcore fans. I honestly disagree, I havent seen any RoboCop movie in years and I like them well enough, but I loved this game. I think he overstates the narrative flaws a bit, the satire isnt as good as RoboCop 1 but I thought it was still good and you can tell they really did their best to capture it as best as they could, even if it doesnt always land.
Hi, i hear your fandom, but dont forget its a AA game, so for the writing and the story, they cant have a long time in for the writing with the best writers. Good words dont come cheap, even with 300 m dollars look what Marvel produce with the Marvels. According to the budget and time of dev, they have done a good damn job. They have not the budget to have trial quality cession and reshoot scenes with Peter Weller if needed. I think the level of excellence needed a dozen of millions and time.
I found that with the dialogue, you can either make choices as you would or answer as robocop would. I think some of the dialogue choices sounded lame when I read them so picked the more robocop fitting option, this could be the issue with skill up being a big girls blouse and picking those ill fitting dialogue options. This was not my experience for the most part. After all your playing a machine with a logic program, with some part of a man beneath not a girls scout like skill up. You would not pick a dialogue option like I'm robocop and I like pressing flowers, skill up would! Maybe the developers struggled with providing the quantity of options. I think this review speaks more to the sensitive nature of skill up than robocop. A ROBOT COP that walks into rooms full of bad guys that are shooting him, not missing, not hiding to avoid damage but taking damage. NO MAN WOULD DO THAT!
Tiny bit harsh here I think, seems like they did a fantastic job with the license and the resources they had. Add a non die hard fan of robocop I’m going to give this a go

With Terminator: Resistance they gave us a proper ending to the franchise and with Robocop: Rogue City they gave us the real Robocop 3 we wanted. I hope Teyon does a Dredd game next. How is Terminator Resistance a proper ending? It's a prequel
@@dr.loomis4221 Spoken like someone who hasn't played it...
We still haven't got the a good RoboCop 2 let alone 3.the first film is the only good one.
These devs Terminator and Robocop games have some jank here and there but God damn they are actual love letters to the fans of the franchises they are based upon. I'd love for them to do a Judge Dredd game one day.

murphy’s journey has always been about choosing between supporting humanity or the state. to be seen as a folk hero or as robocop. it makes perfect sense that he would save cats and fix cars, he is still human. the game is using its gameplay, rather than just dialogue, to explore that theme. in other words, the real meat of the story is buried within a program’s internal mechanical systems. how very meta. how very robocop. this game is a masterpiece.
it's definitely trying
Funny, because I have never watched any Robocop movie and I think this game is great; even some of the stuff you criticized, like Robocops/Peter Wellers writing and voice line delivery or the absurd side quests, I thought was great and very fitting for the 80s-future b-movie setting. True to the source material or not; I loved it and it really gave me the urge to watch the movies (1+2), when before I never really had much interest in them.
Nice 😊
The psychologist is my favourite character in the game
I really liked the psychologist. Pickles was probably my least favorite character easily and I'm perfectly happy to give him the "bad" ending. Ulysses was a bit annoying at first but I think his quests were actually quite decent
@@jayceneal5273 What you think about Lewis? I think they depict her very well
@@ericjpdt I thought lewis was great and don't really agree with the video
I totally agree with you.
this right here, the fact that the murphy we know finally have a chance (movie and game side) in learning how to be human again kinda cute in goofy way.

We want you to treat the source material with respect. THIS is how it's done.
Stop trying to take a beloved franchise, and inventing your own "twist" with shit nobody cares about, or "reinterpreting" the franchise with your own vision.
If you're going to make a Robocop game, make a ROBOCOP game. This applies to all of those other Licensed Franchise games out there
(And TV shows. Looking right at you , HALO TV Series)
Seriously, thank you Robocop team.
So no Metro 2033, Goldeneye, etc?

The rise of Tayon should be studied. They went from jokes that made shovelware to now loved.
This studio has had a huge redemption arc from when they made rambo the game. You can tell they’re a passionate team that has been limited by budget.
Terminator:Resistance was awesome and now Robocop: Rogue City
I’d love to see them get a bigger budget after these past two games and perhaps take on an Aliens Game.
One of the funniest parts in the game was when RoboCop walks into a dispute between sellers and it turns into a parody of antitrust guys.
Good spoilers
ALL COP!"
I don’t know anything about robocop but I just love how into it you are
The first one was great!
At least watch the first Robocop movie. So instead of watching yet another MCU movie, give that a go!
This is the kind of work that makes me want to support the studio. I really hope they are successful enough to keep doing what they do.
@@Valkod23 Oh, I know that. I'm just saying despite it sounding a bit off I still love it.
It feels nostalgic fun like I used to have when I was younger playing single player games, just plain fun. I'm loving it
Take a shot everytime ShillUp goes on a monolouge for some random thing in the game that isn't really bad.
Not a mega robo cop fan, I watched the movies about 6 years ago, this game made me want to watch them again, I’m on my second play through on ng+
Its good to know so much love went into the game. I feel like thats something many licensed games seem to lack.
Just because he got all that armor, those cybernetics and the programming, that doesn't change who he is deep down.
played this in one go in about 12h, loved it! never watched any of the movies.
Worth a watch
RoboCop Rogue City, Dungeons and Dragon Honor Among Thieves, Netflix's One Piece, the Five Nights at Freddy movie and Baldur's Gate 3 all teach the same two important lessons this year, that everyone must take in
1. Have the original creator actively involved.
Or, if that's not possible for various reasons.
2. Respect and love the damn source material! How hard can that be.
I find Lewis pretty caring and protective in Robocop 2.
They are both played by Nancy Allen. To say she doesn't sound like herself is rediculous. Also... robocop dances when he gets new body. Shill is completely wrong. They nailed the robo 1 and 2 vibe
Edit: used Allen likeness but different VA. Still sounds very similar
@@Pharmboy6 Yeah it felt exactly like robotic to me when I watch Mauler streaming the game
I'm okay with Robocops tone being inconsistent. Some times you get more Alex and sometimes you get more Robo
I did not expect this to be a recommendation!
Really I did I knew skill would fck with this game is just really good
This whole video is false.
I would love to see this developer try the Dredd series after this
With Karl Urban voicing him
While I've been thoroughly enjoying this game, the PS5 version needs some serious work to aid performance stability.
The only bad thing about Robocop are the real life people I've met who didn't realize it was satire.
Rambo: They tripped on their shoes
Terminator Resistance: They pick themselves up
Robocop: They got their rhythm..... Hopefully.
Love this game so much I bought it on 2 platforms just cause.
You did support them, you talked to them, and like any douche in a Robocop universe, they will use that to promote themselves as Robocop favorite.... I noticed the same thing and I thought it was well done
This game was awesome, it's been a long time since I bought a game that was worth it, if anything I just wish Robocop was LITERALLY tanky like people say in their reviews, people need to take conclusions from first missions in games
I've never seen Robocop ( :( ) but this game looks awesome. I just can't help but love the aesthetic and combat. I've been anticipating this since the first trailer, simply because it looks so authentic visually.
Watch the movie!!
Yeah watch the first movie at least. It's a classic for a reason.
Just take the time to watch it! It's a blast.
Jirard has got to go. Don't enable him. Don't give him a platform to make excuses.
Skillup: this game has issues
Also Skillup: screw all that. I like RoboCop you need to play this.
I honestly enjoy seeing you really like something.
Are you going to watch the original Robocop movie then??? What a classic movie.
Go watch Robocop. Still good after all these years.
I'm just another one of many who'll plead with you to watch Robocop.
Watch Robocop. Immediately.
I love it!
You should really check out 1 and 2!
Ralph, as said Robocop watcher that watched it once so and so years ago... I adored the demo for this and fully intend on buying this. It was like the BEST cheesy shooter I've played, and I did not tire of it.
One thing I have to say....I really like Robocop 2
It's decent but pale's in comparison to the orginal 3 is an abomination and I wish it didn't exist.
the sense of humor and tone in the game is totally different from the film!
>proceeds to provide examples of humor and tone that are identical to the film
No, what I'm listening for is those magical words: "The developers clearly love this franchise." "This game makes you feel like the character." "This game was made for the fans of this franchise."
I don't even care if I have *never in my life heard of* the franchise in question.
There's A LOT of negativity in this for an 'I recommend' video.
Not for Nothin’, but where is the Robocop movie review because that was beautiful insight and made me want to watch Robocop immediately.
i’ve never disagreed with skill up this much on a review in a long time . this game was fantastic
Didn't he say he recommended it?
Let's see if Jirard shows his fat face on FPS this coming week. Will be interesting to see.
No need to be fatphobic
@@rbdriftinwhy you liking your own comment😂. Also calling someone fat isn’t fatphobic it’s just stating the obvious
Clears Midfield without even trying 💯💯😎🤙
Lmao, moves to Threads from Twitter due to “the risk of misinformation” but has a fraud like The Completionist work for him.
I recommend that everyone watch the unrated cut of Robocop (1987).
Add a non die hard fan of robocop I’m going to give this a go
this looks jank AF, but lovingly created, same as their Terminator game a while back that i loved, so i'm sure i'll enjoy Robocop as well.
