Very very nice, hey I have an 04 jeep grand Cherokee with a Quadra trac 2 and my configuration looks almost the same as yours. Will my bearing carrier come out easy like that too? Just those 4 bolts and slide it back?
Are you kidding me? Use the 36mm axle nut socket that I ALREADY OWN? Instead of buying the special tool, dude you are a friggin genius. You’re the only one I watch now. Thank you.
Great video man !! Simple tools for the average Joe at home.. For anyone watching this applies to the XJ , ZJ , WJ, TJ and all us Jk mall crawlers. Same procedure.
I don't own nor have I ever owned a Jeep nor do I plan on ever buying one but this video was very enjoyable to watch. Great videos by the way. Love the Channel
Great video. Nice step by step with details on nearly everything. Would like to have seen the complete removal of the carrier. Great video. Thank you. Tom
Just an FYI, the bearing caps are marked with a "J" on the bottom and a corresponding mark on the housing to show which one is which. Look at 8:18. I made a tool to press the seals in using a 1/2" bolt, a puck from a seal driver kit, and a 38mm socket (that fit perfectly inside the new seals).
Nice job. Thanks for the free education. You dont know how much I appreciate a good informative video such as yours. I just did mine last weekend and if it weren't for your video, I'd prolly be out of a job right now. Thanks again.
Great video fella! Socket sizes for the seals and torque values are a huge plus! Thank you for taking the time to do this vid. Pretty confident now to do mine!
Excellent video and great job filming and describing each step. One of the best I have seen. That is a pretty big job and it looks like you did it in a parking lot.
I watched the whole thing and didn’t see any comedy, am I at the right place! lol thanks good video. You made me realize I need to get more extensions if I ever need to do this.
Ok so I've seen all your 🌽 avirus videos but never these from years ago. Went on a marathon today when I woke up legit watched hella videos lol. Hit like on every single one! Love this channel. Been sharing it all over my city. I drive Uber and play it on my screen for people and they end up subscribing. Probably got this guy at least 100 subs in the last 3 months at least. :) I take like 15+ rides per day, play his vids for entertainment in my vehicle. He's got a big fan.
Just stumbled on this video... I did my seals a little while ago and had a hard time getting them back installed. I never would've thought to use a 33mm socket to remove and install with the old seals. That would've made life so easy! Oh well, I'll know next time, haha!
Great job with the video and narrated guidance. The axle shaft seal should ride on the shiny journal surface further out than you show it in the video, but it's still really obvious that the old was was wallered out. This is a good time to inspect the CV axles for play and replace if they are worn.
Words of wisdom, especially if youre a rust belter. Use a 1/2” 12 point for the hub bolts. The bolt heads have a slight taper to them. Give them a gentle tap on with a small hammer. This trick will sometimes even work on bolt heads previously stripped from using a 13mm. I prefer to try to skip the whole stripping portion of the process and just get the bolts out.
Thanks for posting my o4 jeep sprung a leak on the drivers side axle now with the help of your video i know what tools i will need and parts to order thank you.
Nice job !!! I like Your videos, because You show everything from beginning to end. It's great help for beginniers like me :) Cheers from Poland !!! :)
Very good, thanks for a clear demonstration! I've got my 2002 WJ torn down in the garage and it seems no matter how hard I try, the diff assembly just will not come out. The factory manual says I need a case spreader to do this and just wondering what your thoughts on that might be...
Excellent video, very helpful, congratulations! I have bearing noise in the "Dana 44HD" rear differential. How difficult will it be to change these bearings? Will you have done it? Any recommendation? It's Jeep ZJ 98 5.2L Thanks!
great video bro! I have the Dana 44 axle, but am hoping it is similar. I'm curious why you didn't replace the carrier bearings while all the way in there? Any video on the Dana 44 you know of?
Just out of curiosity... If you bought new seals, why did put the old seals back in with new one's? Is there a reason why you didn't just replace them with the new one's? I'm wondering how putting both of them in didn't throw everything off, from fitting back together.
That was a pretty good how to video on the inner seals. What about the outer seals? I figure they'd be easier since you don't have to go through the diff to get to them.
Thankd. The outer seals are an aftermarket only option and Jeeps dont come out the factory with them so I dont have those. Check out my update video to see why my axle seals were still leaking after doing this repair th-cam.com/video/EtWK4eL3ysY/w-d-xo.html
First of all, I love your channel. This has been eye opening! Thanks again. I need to install two new CV axles in the front of my 1998 ZJ limited 5.2L. I called the local Jeep repair shop, who is awesome, but I would prefer to save the money and do it myself. He recommended that I do the axle seals at the same time because it's about a 50/50 chance of them leaking after replacing the CV axles. Would you agree?
No, youll be fine just replacing the axle shafts. As your guiding the axles back in just be careful not to let them drag along the inside of the axle housing and youll be ok.
Timken 5778 is NOT the correct part number. That is the seal for the pinion on a dana 44 or the dana 30. The correct seal number is Timken 710068. Otherwise great video.
If there is a oil seal inside the differential housing on the passenger side and another at the intermediate axle side, how does the vacuum section being in between receive oil to lubricate the collar and fork? thanks
So that's what all those ratchet extensions are for in my daddy's tool box! We don't have Jeeps. Just watched for fun. Wasn't disappointed. Loved the details. It's not magic, but it sure seems like it at times. 🙂
Very very nice, hey I have an 04 jeep grand Cherokee with a Quadra trac 2 and my configuration looks almost the same as yours. Will my bearing carrier come out easy like that too? Just those 4 bolts and slide it back?
Question. Have you ever done the rear inner seals? I'm going to guess you have the Dana 44a rear differential as I do and... let's just say I haven't found anything about the inner seals on the rear. I have a 97 limited.

Well made video! Simple and quick instructions
You nailed it, good job. I'm going to go fix mine now!
Very nice video. I plan on doing mine tonight and needed some knowledge
Jarrett Phinney its easy bro, the hardest part will be making yourself get out there and actually do it
Not really lol I love working on it. The hardest part is all the stripped bolts i discovered last night🙄
Jarrett Phinney stripped bolts.. go ahead and add an extra hour to the job lol
I know right
Awesome video man, I’ve never done them on one of these little Dana 30’s so you definitely helped me out a bunch
Nicely detailed and straight to it.

Thanks man ! Appreciate the walk through !
Thanks- great vid! Do I need a 33 mm socket to push them out, or can I use my 36? Is red locktite a good idea...seems like blue would make more sense
Have to agree with many here. Great Tutorial!
First of all, I love your channel. This has been eye opening! Thanks again.

How bad is it to run the jeep like that with out fixing the issue?
Did you have to remove the drive shaft to get the gears out? I’m having trouble getting them out to get to the seal
What is that red o ring? Inside the differential housing? Mine was torn
Very very nice, hey I have an 04 jeep grand Cherokee with a Quadra trac 2 and my configuration looks almost the same as yours. Will my bearing carrier come out easy like that too? Just those 4 bolts and slide it back?
Yes
Question. Have you ever done the rear inner seals? I'm going to guess you have the Dana 44a rear differential as I do and... let's just say I haven't found anything about the inner seals on the rear. I have a 97 limited.
Good job brother getting ready to do my cv joint on my zj ill be checking mine👍 hows those mickey Thompson's working out they look good...
