    I dont easily give accolades but in regards to you and your channel I must. Ive watched several of your jeep zj service and maintenance videos. Every single one has been concise, educational and professional. A very BIG "thank you", for your knowledge, mechanical expertise, attention to detail and overall representation. I personally have been helped and my mechanical knowledge has expanded, because you took the time to share what you've learned with others. Very, very, cool...

    For those who haven't yet changed gear oil - fair warning - that stuff REEKS! Make sure you have a good hand cleaner as well.

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don't like the smell...hmm. I always thought sour sticky icky goo was your favorite smell and feel. Don't even get me started on the burnt up differentials, i love me some swamp water smelling gear oil. Had one so bad i was gagging taking it out, we put some in a styrafome cup and i didn't keep it near by bay as that shit was rank.

      Just curious how much ball park estimate would cost me from my local mechanics to have both my diffs fluids changed+ both new gaskets, fluid materials & the transfer case fluid changed as well? And typically if I have this done do mechanics generally clean scrape out the old worn stuck gaskets out?

      @@lstruggy it’s so damn easy to do why would you waste money on someone else to do a 30 minute job

    • @custommotor
      @custommotor 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lstruggy I know it's been almost a year since this question was asked, but just for reference if anybody else sees it. It all depends on where you live, but you're looking at about $80 to $150 per differential and probably about the same for the transfer case.
      Also that's not a gasket it's RTV. They will scrape all of it off, but how well it is done depends on the technician. Most technicians will clean the surface until there is no gasket. They more than likely will not use a towel on the gears though. They will brake clean the crap out of it.
      If you have some time to do it yourself you save so much money though. You might spend 10 to $20 per differential and maybe the same for the transfer case. One tube of RTV could do both differentials for like six bucks. So you can probably do your own car for between 50 and $100 versus a couple hundred.

    UK ZJ (ZG) owner here, thanks for your really helpful videos and sorry we forgot to tell you to re fit that tag! By the way, really envious of your V8 with the tougher diffs but over here my 4.0 is still a relatively big engine, sounds great and still makes this 1990's jeep faster than a lot of cars. Very very rare cars here now and i havent seen another one on the road for years.

      So do have the 3.73 limited slip diff? I do and with the 4.0 also, as it's a 1993 ZJ Laredo

    • @jjs3287
      @jjs3287 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@toddrhine7648 Not sure of the gear ratio but my UK ZJ has the limited slip diff and needs the special additive to keep it running smoothly without the banging and creaking it makes when the oil wears thin. Its not practical to use a 25 year old 4 litre here in the UK due to commuting distances in my job and the price of fuel (£1.40 per litre) so the vehicle is a spare car that i have built up some history with. Ironically, although arguably a lesser vehicle its the XJ that has captured the hearts of british wannabe Jeep owners although my ZJ still turns heads being so rare even if - at the moment - its still not actually worth very much.

This time i used REDLINE Limited slip differential friction modifier / break in additive and put in the entire 4oz bottle full. No noise whatsoever! Best its ever been.

    After reinstalling the diff cover, I usually don't fully seat the cover to the diff (about a 1/16") untill I let the gasket material set up. This prevents the gasket material, while still in liquid form, from squishing out of the sides of the cover, or into the diff, and leaves a little extra material in your gasket.

    Hello Brother
    I have our purchased Jeep Liberty KK 2010 model refurbished car.
    I want to know which lubricants and which oils are required to be change for smooth functioning of my car?
    Can anyone help me out?
