    I am a life long Florida resident since the early 1950's. I grew up in the Tampa Bay area and now live inland in north Florida. I discourage people from wanting to move to Florida for several reasons, but the biggest reason is getting insurance. It is nearly impossible to get a new policy on a home that is over ten years old, even inland. In addition, insurance companies are finding reasons to cancel long term policies on older homes. People from other states have no idea just how insane it is trying to find homeowner's insurance in Florida. And the cost of coverage is incredibly high. In addition to regular homeowner's insurance, you will need a separate windstorm policy, and if you are near or on the coast, you will need flood insurance.

      Thank you for sharing your perspective and experiences as a lifelong Florida resident. Your insights are incredibly valuable, especially for those considering a move to the state.
      Insurance is indeed a significant challenge here, particularly for older homes. The complexities of finding and maintaining coverage, along with the additional requirements for windstorm and flood insurance, can be overwhelming for many. It’s important for potential newcomers to understand these realities and factor them into their decision-making process.
      Your point about the high costs and difficulties in obtaining insurance is well-taken. It’s an issue that needs more awareness and discussion. For those already here or planning to move, working with a knowledgeable local insurance agent can sometimes help navigate these challenges more effectively.
      Thanks again for highlighting this important aspect of living in Florida. Veronica

    Hell in Michigan if we get snowed in, it’s for a day and it’s only if you don’t have four-wheel-drive. Most people need the day off anyway.
    I’ll take that over Florida traffic any day of the week! Last time I was down there, it made me appreciate our weather. If that’s what it takes to chase everybody off, I’ll take it!

    • @VeronicaEdwards50

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts! It sounds like you’ve found a lot to appreciate about Michigan, especially when it comes to handling the snow and enjoying the occasional day off. There’s definitely something special about a snowy day when you’re prepared for it.
      Traffic in Florida can indeed be challenging, especially in some of the more congested areas. Each place has its pros and cons, and it’s all about what fits your lifestyle best. The warm weather and sunshine here attract many people, but I can see how the contrast with Michigan’s weather could make one appreciate the different seasons and the unique charm of each place.
      It’s always great to hear different perspectives, and I appreciate you sharing yours. Veronica

    My mother inlaw who was a widow had a Electrolux vacume cleaner that needed repair.

    Except Florida is the second fastest growing state in the US. Its No.1 for GDP growth. They pay more and things do cost more. I think people don't understand what Inflation has done to the entire US. Check out prices in NY or in California.

    • @VeronicaEdwards50
      @VeronicaEdwards50  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your insightful comment! It’s true that Florida is one of the fastest-growing states in the U.S., and its impressive GDP growth reflects the economic opportunities here. The rising costs and higher wages are indeed a part of the broader trend affecting the entire country.
      Inflation has had a significant impact nationwide, and comparing prices in Florida with those in states like New York and California can put things into perspective. Each state has its own unique economic dynamics, and it's important to consider these when discussing affordability and cost of living.
      Thank you for highlighting these important points. Veronica

      @@VeronicaEdwards50low wages. Blue collar workers make less than the national average for personal and household incomes. The only ones with money are blue state retirees. @@SLHJR0390 Thanks for sharing your thoughts! You're absolutely right-wages in Florida can be lower than the national average, especially for blue-collar workers. It's a complex issue, and it's one of the reasons why some working families are seeking opportunities elsewhere. However, Florida's appeal to retirees does play a significant role in its growth, with many bringing their wealth and investing in the local economy. The key challenge moving forward will be balancing this influx with opportunities that support long-term economic stability for all residents.

      @@VeronicaEdwards50 how does Florida maintain its services and tourism industry without those young laboring workers? Retirees with money aren’t going to be working there. I say it’s more complex than folks would like to accept.

    • @veronicaedwardsdaytonabeachfl
      @veronicaedwardsdaytonabeachfl หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SLHJR0390 You've hit on an important point-Florida's economy does rely heavily on the tourism industry and the younger workforce that supports it. As more young workers leave for higher wages elsewhere, it could indeed create challenges in maintaining the level of service that the state is known for. This shift could force a reevaluation of wage structures and employment opportunities to ensure a sustainable balance. It's definitely a more complex issue than it appears on the surface, and it will be interesting to see how Florida adapts in the coming years.

    Ontario here, have had family in Florida for decades and honestly the heat and humid feels almost the same here during the summer months vs summer down there. Seeing the prices down there is still better than here. Place I am in now is worth 1.5mil - 2 mil and it's normal "starter" 3 bed 60's house on a acreage that I paid $450,000 for back in '07.

      @VeronicaEdwards50  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for sharing your perspective! It's interesting to hear about the similarities in summer weather between Ontario and Florida. Many people might not realize how comparable the heat and humidity can be.
      Regarding property prices, Florida can indeed offer more affordable options compared to some parts of Ontario. The real estate market here has its own unique dynamics, and while prices have been rising, they still provide value, especially when considering the quality of life and amenities available.
      Your story about the appreciation of your property in Ontario is fascinating! It’s incredible how real estate values can change over time. If you ever decide to explore the market here in Florida, there are still many great opportunities to find a beautiful home that fits your needs.

    Many older people move there to retire and many moved there because they wanted to move to the "freedom" state during COVID. The politics of Florida are problematic for younger (possibly more progressive) people. But I think the current policies work for older people and not so much for younger (child bearing age) people. I personally believe there is a brain drain happening because professional people don't want to move to a state that limits reproductive freedom. JMHO

      Thank you for sharing your thoughts. You bring up several important points about the diverse reasons people choose to move to or leave Florida. The political climate and policies can certainly influence these decisions, and it’s true that different age groups and demographics may have varying priorities and concerns.
      Florida has indeed been appealing to retirees and those seeking certain freedoms, especially during the pandemic. However, it's also essential to consider the perspectives of younger individuals and families, particularly when it comes to policies that impact their lives and futures.
      I appreciate you highlighting the issue of reproductive freedom, as it's a significant factor for many when deciding where to live and work. The concept of a "brain drain" is a valid concern, as attracting and retaining talented professionals is crucial for the state's growth and development.
