As someone who was raised by a single mom let me say this. The mere fact of having a father is huge. But having one like you is as good as it gets brother. Your kids are lucky to have you and will make this world better than it was when they arrived!!
And it is the time when they are young and looking up to you. For the first time in ur life, you feel responsible and need to grow up fast. Appreciate your kids before they leave!

Bentley with the Leaf Blower build!! What an awesome gift. I would have to take it with me on every trip just to show this boy's talent. I am sure the others are just as talented, and I respect that it seems they don't want to be on camera much, you don't force it on them. Its still cool you involve them in certain builds, got them all rigs to learn the driving stuff, etc. Mom and Dad can be proud of those 3 boys. I love this truck, I think the battery on the firewall would have been my choice, but with no fenderwells, its gonna get sprayed no matter wheee you put it. My dad left me a 66 C10 Long Bed with the 292 six. It had a camper on the back that some drunk rear ended parked in front of our house. It still ran, just needed the camper removed and fixed. Dad passed away and another member of my family sold all the cars in the side yard to pull-a-part, running or not, most of which were mine, but thats another sad story. Definitely have an affinity for those trucks since then.
I knew the gas axe was eventually going to come into play. Derek, you have encouraged a lot of us armchair mechanics to get off our brains and start wrenching on our cars, trucks, SUVs, boats, motorcycles, and even planes in my case. Last week I changed out Ball Joints, Tie Rod ends, brakes, oil, and charged my AC on my 2007 Yukon XL. My alignment shop even said I did such a good job on my installs that they wondered if I needed a side job. I am too old for that, but glad I can still get things done for myself. If you are concerned about those bed braces losing strength, use the center pieces to brace the corner between the bedside and the bottom of the frame rail.
Derek and co-stars (aka family), thank you so much for your hard work with theses great videos. Over the last months and months, I've really dug into my first car project. It has been in the garage for nearly three years and the end, if there's such a thing, is getting closer. I really appreciate your motivation and instructions. Thank you!
Nice upgrade on Longmire, now it can be a goin to town rig. Instead of a "can a guy start it even" rig, looking forward to the power steering install. Thanks so much for bringing us such quality videos. Not to mention showing us the family as well, I personally never had a father worth the time, haven't talked to mine in seventeen years. So seeing you with your boys is a nice addition to the quality content. Hope you and the family stay well, and thanks again.
To think i use to watch or should i say waste my time on cable tv, i am way more entertained watching your channel and learning at the same time , thank you Derick and family for sharing these videos with us..from a small town called Cambridge ontario Canada..
I absolutely love this truck!!! So happy that you bought it back, and huge thanks to the gentleman that tracked you down and offered her up to you. Friday night with a cold snack and VGG. Nothing better. Damn I’m getting old 😂
The digitals covering the vintage instrument cluster and the wire running thru hole in dash is an eyesore.I hope the fender wells are on order.Sorry couldn't stop myself ,great content great channel.
Installing a Boyd tank on my 66 was the best money I have spent. I have a 6.0 LS that was running off the original in bed tank and a fuel pump. The tank had venting issues, and gas smell issues (the original building had a rubber return hose (bad). The Boyd with in tank pump has solved all my problems and been great.
Man I LOVE these videos LOL. You are totally the Red Green of the automotive world 😂 Keep these videos coming! Thanks pal. Lots of laughs and lots of learning for sure.
Your boys are going to do great things. As a betting man I'd say they will have a huge impact on the car community and do something that sets them apart!!
Love the 292 straight 6 but have you seen the 4200 straight 6 GM OMG they are awesome getting so much power for not alot of money those are going to be the next ls I believe love your videos so keep on keeping on
I gotta tell you something. I'm about to be homeless with my wife and kids and my stress factor is super high, but taking a break from trying to find a home we qualify for which we have not yet found and only have less than 2 weeks left or we are on the streets, I do take the break from the stress and watch your videos. I don't laugh at much but you are funny and make me laugh and ease my stress. So thank you for that.
Derek, have you seen ThunderHead289’s carb cheater? Might be cool for some of your older rigs that you want to increase your relia/drive ability. With out switching to efi. But it’s awesome to see your experience and gain from your knowledge.😊
Job well done Mr Derek, for safety I think under oil tank need to weld 2 bars to support the tank weight. Otherwise the tank will not hang in there for long. I think Also need to have inner front fenders…for this beautiful truck.🍺
You are the kind of dad that makes Fathers Day mean something. Also, 'Pat on the Back' for taking care of your wife and keeping her safety in mind. Love that you are keeping the old Chevy alive. Caan't wait till you save on the frame and under carriage with some rust preventative. Not trying to be critical, but you might want to tie that frame back together with some U-channel or square tube and reinforce the support for the rear fenders after cutting all that rust... I mean steel out. Keep us updated on the Longmire project.
I thought the same thing. Removing all the frame rail ties and then putting a fuel tank in between is disturbing. Frame rails move around under load, and now the aluminum tank is the tie between them. One of the key things manufacturers put in "heavy duty" versions of trucks is heavy ties between frame rails because they want to move under load. Also, if someone t- bones that bed the fuel tank will be pinched hard between the rails: there are no supports left to prevent that.
Thank you so much. Im doing a fuel system in 74 Javelin. Ive learn lots from watching you. And now I have a clue on how I should do it. Lol. You rock. Keep u the great content.
Does my heart good. I am restoring my 66 gmc stepside I got when I was 16. I don't have the straight 6 anymore. '67 327 now. But I love hearing the six sound again. Thanks for the update. Been waiting for the latest chapter. rock on.
Great video. I love seeing you doing technical upgrades without the dumbing down theatrics. Well done. Please keep THESE coming. That’s constructive criticism, I hope you take it well. Thanks for all you have taught me…all the best and will watch always.
We converted my wife's 85 fj60 cruiser to a Holley sniper and what a difference. No more bucking Broncos on cool mornings and finding the sweet spot on the manual choke. Also replaced the 4 speed with a five speed. Made it far more highway worthy. Nice upgrade, I'm sure your wife will really enjoy it, mine did.
So a feller missed this episode on Friday due to being away with family but watched it the minute i could, that being said, i installed this kit with a hyperspark ignition and so far love it. Cant make it to HRPT, this year but maybe 2024. Hope to see you and your great family to say hi and not to mention meet all you other VGG FAMILY MEMBERS. Cheers everyone remember our fallen members of the armed forces this memorial day, and thank every veteran you see and know. Its the least we all can do. Thank you Bieri family so much!.
Loved this trilogy of videos Mr. Matt. I too enjoy bringing old equipment back to life. Mine typically consist of 60's-80's cars and trucks though. More specifically those of the JDM nature. I don't know much about diesels, but I like watching your videos because you are as much a teacher as an entertainer. 👍
A lot of older guys who don't know, well they just don't know. EFI is a FABULOUS thing, you can tune it with a laptop and a little bit of know how (it's just as difficult as learning to use a vacuum gauge and all the screws and setting your t's to a square and all that) it's BETTER to run fuel injection. It literally takes ALL of the guesswork out of fueling your machine. Seriously guys, take a minute and just LEARN EFI!! It's WONDERFUL!
Minus moms sweater😂 this is why you’re the best, Derek! I love that you’re finally getting everything you deserve and have worked so hard for. From tubing on chevelles in an igloo to a TV star with acres of land in Tennessee. It’s beautiful
Stubby wrenches are a blessing. In an ideal world, there would be wheel tubs to secure the wires to, and they also do a commendable job of keeping road grime and water from being flung all over the engine by the tires.
Truly enjoy your content sir. I believe we are close in age but you sure remind me of my dad. He taught me everything I know about working on cars. Used the same line she only need what she needs.
Raising my children alone in Montana my boys each chose a project to restore, put in the work to earn for parts then learned to restore one car and soup up the others. Now I have a Lady friend with lazy POS kids and grand kids so it's refreshing to see your son in the shop with you. This younger generations favorite words are ones I hate: "I KNOW". Lord I wish I was that smart! Good Luck with the Ol' Chevy, I miss my fleetside 4X4, my eldest daughter stole it but keeps her running and in good shape. You are quite the mechanic Sir. In a world of "techs", it is so good to watch you. Take care of that Beautiful family, we appreciate them also. You are in my prayers Hoka Hey
Looks good. I have a 74 c10 stepside that I need to go pickup in Oklahoma that belonged to my grandfather. He use to let me steer the truck when I was a kid. When I was about 5 or 6 I took a pocket knife and carved my name above the custom 10 emblem and it’s still there today. I’m torn between paint or patina. I like the way your truck looks. I was able to acquire it through my uncle. It’s been sitting since the 90’s. Looking forward to picking it up in May and bring it home to restore. Bought new and been on the same family since.
Sadly I have seen every single episode in order as they have come out since the third episode. And I only say sadly because it wasn’t from day 1! I had to go back and see the first two and watch them out of order drives me crazy. And I have no idea why I enjoy this so much. Just watching some cray guy making stuff with a chain saw. Love it!! Keep it up.
Crap didn’t see that your vid popped up after last show. But I’ve been with yours for years as well and i also love watching you fix up old rigs and getting the back on the road again
People now don't realize what a huge difference EFI made. You could have never had a remote start that worked, and really below 0 you had a 50% chance your engine would start. At -20, about 10% chance. Now you just turn the key, it runs. No tap dancing on the gas, no choke pull-offs not working, no learning the idiosyncrasies of each car's cold starting...
I'm so glad you made this video! I am about to put my 292 with a turbo into my '66 gmc and install a Holleuly Super Sniper. This video made me feel so much more confident about my purchase and excitement to get everything installed!
I love that truck and when you were explaining if your wife at the hotel had to clutch, gas it, hold the brake driving uphill - that brought back a lot of memories for me back in the mid-80s. I would go visit my brother in Pacifica CA. near San Francisco.. I drove my 74 VW bug around San Francisco - oh yeah, clutching that baby-holding the brake gassing it at the light behind another vehicle and yes, it was an experience.. good times..🤙
just gotta say I honestly look forward to your videos more than anything on tv it’s so nice to get to see an actual wholesome family tv show. Oh and it’s about old rigs ❤

Bentley's creativity is wonderful! What a delight. Always enjoy watching your videos. Thank you Derek and family!
I put a smaller sniper on a 1976 292 in a 1 ton duelly that is still being used to deliver home heating oil, about a year and a half ago. Fun project.
To think i use to watch or should i say waste my time on cable tv, i am way more entertained watching your channel and learning at the same time , thank you
Derick and family for sharing these
videos with us..from a small town called Cambridge ontario Canada..
Thanks so much
I dont sub to any streaming ....i just watch youtube.
Im happy to see your fear/respect for your wife. You are obviously a good man and husband/ father. Well done
Well done Derek and wow Lil Grip really has come a long way as always keep safe and bless you all
I absolutely love this truck!!! So happy that you bought it back, and huge thanks to the gentleman that tracked you down and offered her up to you. Friday night with a cold snack and VGG. Nothing better. Damn I’m getting old 😂
Thanks for keeping the revivals in the mix. I could honestly just watch builds with the fleet you got there! This was a cool vid
I can't wait to see part II. This video was great as per usual.
Man I LOVE these videos LOL. You are totally the Red Green of the automotive world 😂
Keep these videos coming! Thanks pal. Lots of laughs and lots of learning for sure.
If your wife can't find you handsome at least she can find you handy ~ Red Green.
Your boys are going to do great things. As a betting man I'd say they will have a huge impact on the car community and do something that sets them apart!!
Idk what it takes to let the closed captioning run on these, but a guy sure appreciates when it is on! Love the videos, thanks!
awesome, i’ve had my impala efi’d since 15 & i love it…!!! that’s gonna do great on the highway… really brings these old cars back to life…
"Successfull rust-eyebaall injection" :D
God, I love your humor.
Awesome content
Love all the hard work
Love the 292 straight 6 but have you seen the 4200 straight 6 GM OMG they are awesome getting so much power for not alot of money those are going to be the next ls I believe love your videos so keep on keeping on
I gotta tell you something. So thank you for that.
that is the beauty of the "No Plan" plan . if had planned this you would’ve put it off
Derek, have you seen ThunderHead289’s carb cheater? Might be cool for some of your older rigs that you want to increase your relia/drive ability. With out switching to efi. But it’s awesome to see your experience and gain from your knowledge.😊
Job well done Mr Derek, for safety I think under oil tank need to weld 2 bars to support the tank weight. Otherwise the tank will not hang in there for long. I think Also need to have inner front fenders…for this beautiful truck.🍺
We need a couple good ol’ “Well help me understand!” classics. Best line ever. Blessings to you and yours Derek. Thanks for the vidya.
Been waiting for the latest chapter. rock on.
Stubby ratchet wrenches are a life changer. And I’m not kidding you
Great video. I love seeing you doing technical upgrades without the dumbing down theatrics. Well done. Please keep THESE coming. That’s constructive criticism, I hope you take it well. Thanks for all you have taught me…all the best and will watch always.
I’m absolutely in love with those rims! Oversized rallies!!! 🤩
Nice setup.
“Little Guy Garage” is a great garage hand.
You’re showing what a dad is all about
A lot of older guys who don't know, well they just don't know.
When I was a kid my dad had a 65 step side I loved that truck so much I’ve always looked for one for years
Minus moms sweater😂 this is why you’re the best, Derek! I love that you’re finally getting everything you deserve and have worked so hard for. From tubing on chevelles in an igloo to a TV star with acres of land in Tennessee. It’s beautiful
Very good job on that straight daryll!!! Your son is getting the best education on automobile mechanics ever!!!😊😊😊
I’ve used RTV as a threadlocker for years. Glad to see I’m not the only one doing it
Did this on my 61 works great so much better no more cold starts 😊
Derek you have shown us so much over the years thank you sir GOD bless you and your family
Stubby wrenches are a blessing. In an ideal world, there would be wheel tubs to secure the wires to, and they also do a commendable job of keeping road grime and water from being flung all over the engine by the tires.
42:24 to 48:10 is old pick up wrenching Gold! Nothing beats this.Thank for an excellent episode, great viewing.
You are in my prayers
Hoka Hey
I learned to drive on a '66 Fargo, with a straight 6 and a 3-on-a-tree. There's just something special about the first rig you learned to drive on.
You’re raising some great Sons. What a joy to watch y’all work together.
Man, I love the sound of that ol Chevy 6 banger!! Awsome!
Take your cranking 12v from your oil pressure switch circuit. That's what I've always found to work when wiring older vehicles
I know this was a while ago but when using a torch near wires. Always use a small wet mop or water soaked Clothed rags.
May God bless all!
