    I genuinely can't think of a more satisfying laptop concept than one you can assemble, maintain, repair, and upgrade yourself. Framework has done such a great job and I hope hey continue to thrive.

    Several years ago, I was getting off lease premium laptops for all my friends. Now it makes much more sense to simply order one of yours. It's more money initially but it's the logical choice today.

      Literally what I wes thinking. It's sort of sad to see a company gains o much attention from something that was the absolute norm not 15 or so years ago.

      @@megatronskneecap Sure, and even before that, there were Apple laptops that were a joy to service but there was never a device intended to be upgraded indefinitely from any manufacturer. We could often do a CPU swap though, until Intel decided to go BGA only.

      so do they have top tier security and support for firmware updates long term? or any kind of secure component supply chain? government really won't be convinced to pay more for a device unless they have that and can do bulk discounts😂

      Abysmal support of launched boards would put a halt to that pretty quickly. They have a tendency to abandon support for boards before they've even hit your doorstep.
      My 12th gen has been given a single BIOS update in it's 2.2 years of life, still has gaping security holes and that BIOS (if it doesn't brick the system), creates more problems than it solves.
      They seem noble and cool on paper, but it's basically a bait and switch unless you're willing to upgrade your mainboard every generation.

      @@okatbikes4917 I've never updated BIOS, so not sure why it would matter. The BIOS isn't open source yet because they're currently using a proprietary solution to focus on things that matter much more. There's already decent work being done porting Coreboot for Framework 13, it works, just not to its fullest.

    Are the screws on the Framework 16 also captured? I really like that feature as somebody who's worked on many a laptop and had to keep track of a bunch of tiny screws, sometimes even of varying length and thread pitch. This would make life so much easier, especially for a laptop that's specifically built to be user serviceable and upgradeable like the Framework is.

      The screws in the midplate, the two of the screws that help hold the dGPU/expansion bay shell as well as the four screws that hold the interposer (at lease for the dGPU to my knowledge) in place are captive. There are no screws to take the keyboard, trackpad and spacers off on the 16. The remaining screws for the other components such as the cpu and screen are not captive similar to the video. Hope this helps!

      It's more that the framework 16 just barely came out of pre-order phase. The framework 13 has existed for a very long time. And at the time of the framework 13 launching it actually had less modules available for it.

    • @mr_droide
      @mr_droide 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@heroninja1125 Exactly, there is 1 model of the 16 when an upgrade comes for it we will definitely have videos talking about it, and as it is only AMD it complicates a bit because the model 13 only has Ryzen 7000, when an upgrade comes out in AMD CPUs, we will see new models for the 13 and 16 or maybe an Intel version of the 16 and there would still be doubt as to whether we will see a version of the GPU module with Intel Arch or Battlemage

      Can't answer you first question but for the latter, it depends. If you do some general tasks on the PC like any "usual" person would then having a single RAM stick won't really impact you negatively, but if you were to do more performance intensive things, then having 2 sticks on RAM is definitely better, especially on a Ryzen system

    Framework please make 20-21" laptop with proper socketable CPU, 4-5 M.2 slots and couple of 2,5" too, good sound, big touchpad (like razer blade),option to upgrade screen in future and MOST IMPORTANT with BEST COOLING possible, like it was in clevo p870 with gigantic vapor chamber (or anything that can have capacity for it) but better, not too low profile fans, one that will be good enough to work good with regular thermal paste or phase changing thermal paste(optional water cooling will be good too), unfortunatly GPU upgrade is harder, because of discontinuation of MXM, but even this way it would be perfect for "Desktop replacement" need that many have due to lack of space. It can be even 5kg+ (due the need of cooling). Clevo p870/Alienware 18(2013) sized chassis like machine can fit 20"+ screen, and as it wont have option for second GPU it will have space for this kind of realisation. Please make it happen 🙏
