I bought my wife a Framework because she kept dropping her laptop (so I can now replace parts she breaks lol) and I love that there is something to do with the parts down the road. I have a good laptop and want to upgrade to the 16" when I can but then I have the issue of what to do with the old laptop. I hope Framework stays around for a long, long time
Cooler Master is not a niche seller, the fact that they have done this means so much for the prosperity of framework! I hope they get more confident are more open to things in general, they already are very open, but there are still some stiffness in some things, but i'm pretty sure that with time and experience that will be solved.
Agreed, I was thinking the same. Framework is building a really cool ecosystem, and it's great to see a really big maker jump on board. What I'm looking forward to is seeing people build cyberdecks with the mainboard. It's unfortunate the more common 3D printing materials have some issues with shrink and heat, but the creativity in that scene is amazing so I'm sure they'll get it figured out.
I'm in the same situation... I really want to buy the 16 just because it's awesome but I really really don't *need* it for probably at least 4-5 more years. I would love to have a reasonable excuse to buy right now though 🤞🏻
I hope Framework sets up a new standard for laptops and the MoBos and their laptop become standard for most if not all laptops. Would love to see a Frework-cimpatible HP Elitebook, a Razer Blade with better cooling, a watercooled monstrosity by Alienware and maybe even a Framework Tablet produced in cooperation with MS.
Honestly, the stock 13" model is fairly well cooled out of the box. Unless Intel or AMD allows mobile overclocking, or allowing an increased power limit, there's not much of a benefit for improved cooling.
I just like this as a concept. Many of us have been "upcycling" for years. It's good to have a formal solution. I hope they do more of it. It horrifies me the ammout of tech junk I own that could have been upcycled but the manufacturer thought it best to screw the consumer.......Top of that list the Remix Mini
Id love to see ability to attach a battery to the case which would make this the perfect little home assistant/mini server with protection from blackouts.
This is really exciting. One of the reasons I was so keen on framework was the ability to repurose old main boards as servers. With the Ryzen and off the shelf case announcements, it was finally time. BTW, your content has just been getting better and better over time. I'm excited to see what's next for the channel!

The whistling can be due to the evenly sized vents on the surface. Taping few shut at some intervals mights make things better, so will breaking few vent spacers at intervals.
Wow the most anticipated review ever since I heard about Framework Laptop, thank you very much, this is a very good direction in my opinion, Kudos to Framework and CoolerMaster, a great secondary computer tucked behind a TV/Monitor while at the same time upgrading to a newer mainboard, what would be great to know is the overhead costs for a full working secondary system setup, say if a person upgrades from the 11th gen to 13th gen mainboard and uses the 11th gen mainboard as a secondary computer what's the total cost one could incur?
If framework survives long enough, I wonder if purchases for their bare boards will increase for hobbyists. It seems like the same crowd interested in raspberry pi, Latepanda, and maybe the erying boards would ALSO be interested in retrofitting a framework PCB for other tasks.
@@jeremydale4548 I think one of the problems with laptops is that by the time the user finds the specs obsolete, the rest of the laptop is usually falling apart anyway.. so it's one of the situations where it 'makes sense' to just replace the whole thing every few years. Also, because everyone just defaults to the Thickness War as the only priority, cooling is always a problem. So we get laptops that cook themselves to death. I would like to have a 'chunkier' heavy duty laptop chassis.. something capable of supporting 40-50mm exhaust fans on the back.. maybe it could be marketed today as more of a 'portable desktop' than a 'laptop'. I used to imagine mini ITX could somehow find its way in to a situation like that, but that never materialized. For the record, I'm almost 40 and have still never owned a laptop.
I have a preorder for the amd mainboard to run in this case as a server, replacing a raspberry pi cluster. The amd boards support av1 hardware accelerated encoding and decoding so are perfect for home servers.
I think this concept is super cool, I've been dreaming of building slim desktops with old laptop hardware since I was like 15. The only problem I have with this is the look, if it had a cleaner, more premium look I could totally see this being a perfect home theatre pc.

This is really great news. Adoption from such big manufacturers is both very important, and a good sign of the future for Framework. One thing I would like to see though, is a mod which lets you mount a bigger cooler, with, say, a Noctua fan. If we put this board into a 'desktop' case, the whole "thin and light" thing can be negotiated a little more readily, allowing for more flexibility. There should be no reason to have to put up with such a noisy design.
I like the ecosystem you were describing here. Imagine, you need a new laptop screen and Framework have multiple, one by LG. one by Samsung, etc. Same for if you need a new keyboard. I think the possibilities are endless.

Love your review. The possible answer to your question as to when companies will produce modular components is when there is a need or a requirement to do so. If more companies ran with an Open Chassis design with standard sized modules like the raspberry pi, than other companies will tackle that mold is quest for profit.
I like where the framework going hopefully this becomes a standard and be used by any brand. Looking forward for the main board enclosure + an egpu option from you or framework.
I wouldn't overthink the CoolerMaster significance just yet: they're already in the custom accessory business, so for them a project like this, in terms of profile, isn't even lateral, not to mention how cheap it is to manufacture - they make Raspberry Pi cases too! With someone like MSI or LG, you're asking a company to compete against their own products.
Have to say I switched to the Honeywell Phase change pads for my Framework and Dell laptops and got a 10 degree drop on the Dell and a 14 degree drop on the Framework.
The high pitch noise when in the CoolerMaster enclosure is caused by the shape of the fan openings. I’d remove every second or third strip or even remove the hole lot and place a metal mesh instead of I had this issue.
I love the concept of that GPU enclosure case. I'm also wondering about the possibility of something similar but for 3.5" HDDs instead of a GPU. Could an old Framework mainboard be the heart of a NAS?
Framework could be the new wave of trends across tech that bring the power dynamic back into the hands of consumers/end users. Anything that is antithetical to the current bullsht system we have now is a good idea
I wish there was something like this that was universally compatible to any laptop board. I still have a couple of Sandy/Ivy Bridge laptops with some minor physical problems but still fully functional that are lying around just gathering dust and it'd be great if I could repurpose them by turning them into mini PC's. I've seen some DIY stuff online dealing with that kind of stuff but they're always far too complicated, expensive, and require specific tools and other bits to make them.
There will likely never be a universal version of this due to the extreme differences in various laptop boards. Diy doesn't have to be complicated but yes, if you want to make something you will need at least some tools.

Beside ABS & PLA there is also PETG. Also motherboards can be screwed into wood pretty reliably. But yes, for a desktop solution, even nettop style one it needs to have a beefier cooler. So bigger cpu cooler or case with one would've been great.
You can't use PLA/PETG for this unless you SIGNIFICANTLY increase the size of the case to keep the heat away from the printed parts. Keep in mind, PLA isn't suitable for any heat at all and PETG shouldn't be taken above around 40 C. In this case, the CPU is producing more heat than PETG can handle(and it's only using 30W), while the rest of the system is producing even more due to power losses going straight to heat. But it's partially moot because this is a mass market case. Injection molding > 3d printing if producing at Cooler Master scale and that means ABS/PC. They're an OEM, the production run numbers are WAY past what 3d printing can do.
@@Grimmwoldds I was under an impression that it's a only PLA that should be heated above 40°с, and for PETG it should be around 80°с. Still worse than abs, obviously. But even 80°с... Can it really be achieved anywhere inside the case outside from a heatsink with a direct contact with a cpu? And even then 80°с temperature on a cpu doesn't mean 80°с temperature of an exhaust. And high inside case temperature can't be achieved without a massive heating element, like in close chamber 3d printers with a massive heatbed and deliberatly little to no ventilation. I wasn't able to find a source, but I seems to rmeember seeing some research about actual exhaust temp of hardware and it not even close to actual temperature on a die.
@@trashviewer3521 It's not a very large nor high flow cooling solution. You'd have to check it, but I'd guess that it's the exhaust temp is high enough to soften PLA/PETG. The temps given for heat deflection are how much to soften it to bend a certain amount in a short time. When used in a computer case, you don't EVER want to use PLA or PETG. If you subject them to even 40C for a few days they will warp and sag(you're usually putting load onto them). Exhaust from cooling fins, being near an SSD, or even proximity to the power stages...
I bought one CM Stacker 730 Case in 2006 - Still rocking my i9-13900K with a 4080 in it, cooled with a 360 AIO. At that time, CM built for the Eternity. Today not so much anymore... That whine would kill me in the Framework. But at least CM is still trying...
If I wasn't hip deep in computer stuff that case and board would be really tempting to play around with. It would be fun to mount it to the back of my LG ultrawide monitor and see how it performs.
5:15 It is always adviced, to use a power supply that is utilized at around 70 - 80% MAX It is not healthy for a power supply, to be used at it's absolute limits And that counts also for it's efficiency, so you draw significantly more power than you use otherwise.
The loud fan seems to be caused by a temperature sensor inside placed badly on both the Intel and AMD version. Using third party community tools on linux and windows does solve the issue until Framework gives us a proper fan controller (they have no plans for it btw)
The high frequency whistle is disappointing with the cooler master case. I wonder if there are some modifications that can be done to stop it. I think it's still the cleanest case to get to re-home the framework board

Good video, but yet again I am concerend about the volume of the Framework as I really want to get away from a loud laptop, lets hopy the AMD version and 16 inch version suffer less from this issue.
Would it be possible to have the M.2 port of the framework exposed? If so, having a case that could fit a GPU that would connect with occulink and thunderbolt would be sick.
I love this, once the hardware is done with in a laptop can pop this bad boy onto a tv an keep its life going. Less E-waste and a better smart tv, absolute win.
the GPU enclosure idea is a good one, maybe they will add USB4 to their boards and make USB4 to PCI-e cables and reach out to you for the design for another Framework+ product.
I´ve predicted this over a decade ago. Modular Notebook Hardware is the Future. Very nice Detail Solutions. I crave for the release of the AI Max+ 395 (16C/40CU) APU. To try my own project. As a Backpack PC. It should Hug on my and my Monitors backside. Adding up a Soundbar Dockingstation. RGB Background Ambilight. Shades and Lighting. And wait a moment to make it Lengendary ......a AC Unit. And a Rack to Store Equipment. Like Keyboard and Mouse etc. And a Microwave and Buttercream.

Have the Coolermaster case with the 11th gen i7 Framework board and it works great. Not having the fan sound problems. Regarding the power supply, I'm using the standard power brick that comes with the laptop and also not having any issues. Did you disable the battery in the bios? That is recommended by Framework.
Note that it doesn't seem fit their amd boards. Two out of three users trying it on the forums had issues. The one in which it did work I'm not sure was even using the coolermaster case, they may have been using some other case in standalone mode.
I wonder how hard it would be to print a bracket that would allow a mechanical keyboard to be mounted over the bottom half of the case in place of the "lid"...
Great coverage of this product, but it was marred by the audio being so out of sync with your mouth movements. UPDATE: The audio sync is perfect when restarting the video a day later. I don't know why it was not yesterday on the same device.
The audio is perfect now on my Android tablet, the same device I used yesterday. I did not have sync issues with other videos yesterday, but now this one if fine too. Weird.
I feel like you have a misunderstanding of what shrinkage in plastic does. The shrinking and expansion only occurs when being cooled or heated respectively. Your ABS case did NOT shrink after a years time. It shrinks as slowly as or as fast as you cool it. As long as you are not impatient and toss your motherboard into the 3d printed case while it is still hot off of the build plate there will be no issues. When your ABS or other thermoplastic parts are done you should cool it to room temperature before doing anything with them for any use.
No I completely understand how thermoplastic polymer chains work, and how they continue to tighten or loosen over time based on many factors. Initial cooling rate, and temperature only bieng two of the factors. In this case it is very likely due to the below average annual humidity rate and lower air density which dosent allow for the ideal proportion of solvent molecules to evenly distribute the chains. In simple terms, the plastic is drying out.

Even if we were to humour your false assumption the shrinkage and expansion resulting from it assuming isothermal conditions would not cause any motherboard to crack as you boldly claim. Additionally, any shrinkage or expansion that occur after the initial cooling is more likely due to, as you said humidity and temperature fluctuation, which would not cause any damage to a motherboard unless you have tension on the board to begin with. In simple terms, unless you are bending your board and inserting to a undersized case, what you say is not possible.
@@XxBanziixX1 I didn't say the board will crack. However in the past year the ABS printed case DID in fact shrink by over a millimeter across the X axis. That could definetly cause damage to one or more of the board mounted UBC-C ports. They are pretty fragile and the soldier points are easily cracked. Speaking from experience. If the board bowed or twisted due to the shrinking case that could easily lead to movement of the heatsink, which is secured with leaf spring tension, causing improper cooling of the CPU or VRM. Also speaking from experience. I've been tinkering with this mainboard for 2 years, I'm very familiar with it's extremely tight tolerances.
so, can you mount just the case to a desk arm? most monitors are either stand/arm or vesa, as youve said, so mounting this thing to a separate arm would be an option. but is it? i think it would look cool on an arm next to the monitor(s). btw, how are thermals when mounted to a monitor? is there any gap between the two for at least some airflow?
Dang I wish Framework would make a thick case so the cooling could be better / quieter. Sucks that nobody makes what I want. Thinner isn't always better.
I think this has some massive missed opportunities, on both the case and mainboard sides of it. I/O is one problem area, four ports max but limited to three due to the power supply, split between two sides, of which one mounting solution is _behind a display_ where reachability will become problematic on virtually everything due to position. The I/O should've been broken out into an external hub, one that also fits nicely into the stand, power passthrough included, and personally I'd rather see at least four USB ports, two or three video outs, and either audio or another USB for those that use DACs. Another thing, which this might come down to circuitry reasons and lack of full-power overhead (as laptops have this AC+DC mode that provides a higher power draw while also charging, or at least they used to), but why do we not have power input where the battery connection was. Similarly, why are we not also seeing an eDP to DP board on the internal display connector. Again something else I'd like to see, though depending on implementation this is probably better left to a future update, is keyboard and trackpad as USB devices just so that chassis swaps can tap these two peripherals' connectors for I/O purposes. Beyond these things, one thing I would like to see is a better cooling solution, now that the mainboard isn't in a compact case, possibly even with a thermalpadded backplate if the backside gets toasty at all. I definitely think a next-gen FW needs a lot more ecosystem forethought, beyond just USB-C adapter modules and the idea of using alternate chassis, the platform itself actually needs to be flexible in its utilization, such as adapting internal peripherals to be USB/DP so that these peripheral ports can become I/O within an alternate chassis, or how the power solution should be simplified to just using the internal connector in the same situation. I haven't seen too much promo of the newer FW 16, but I'm really hoping they're still early enough in development to make these kinds of changes before it becomes yet another wishlist of hopes for a future generation of the product. I just don't think we currently see the same kind of forward thinking that they have with repairability is being fully applied to reusability, as it's more of just a chassis swap with sacrifice instead of the absolute most full utilization of the board within the alternate cases; the less hubs I have to use, the better, the more consolidated the I/O is overall, the better, and of course there's a balance of the two but we also shouldn't be using a 10-in-1 hub off a single port if we don't have to.

The noise is what I did not like. I'll check if the whine is there too. I also forgot the audio board. If I want one now I also have to pay another €30 shipping.... I have a 11th gen in. I upgraded to the 13th gen. my wifi board clip was in the rubber stand bag.
Now slap a screen in front of it and a gamepad(and maybe the batteries) on both sides and you'll now have a powerful gaming handheld (albeit with poor battery runtime. lol)
This is neat but I thought it was a GPU case or cooler. I'm in need of replacement fans for my used 1070 but I can't find the exact ones PNY used, an aftermarket cooler would also solve the problem.
Can I buy the mainboard(with kit) and the case? Was planning to build one for work, my current gaming PC consumes a lot of power for the task that I am doing lol.
So if I understood correctly, you get a little less performance without the battery attached (and then there's the problem of not being able to update the firmware without it). If that's the case and Framework doesn't fix that with software, I guess it would be useful to get an adapter that connects to the battery connector and to another PSU (or Maybe the same?) Right? I guess that's possible and would fix those issues, but idk if it's worthy.
It appears the video has big audio sync issues on the TV app. Sorry, not sure what the problem is but the video is working fine on mobile and desktop.

You could fit get a battery bank with passthrough and just use that as the USB power brick.

I agree, lets hope that this is a first step to a much larger ecosystem.
Framework could be the new wave of trends across tech that bring the power dynamic back into the hands of consumers/end users. Anything that is antithetical to the current bullsht system we have now is a good idea
I wish there was something like this that was universally compatible to any laptop board. I still have a couple of Sandy/Ivy Bridge laptops with some minor physical problems but still fully functional that are lying around just gathering dust and it'd be great if I could repurpose them by turning them into mini PC's. I've seen some DIY stuff online dealing with that kind of stuff but they're always far too complicated, expensive, and require specific tools and other bits to make them.
There will likely never be a universal version of this due to the extreme differences in various laptop boards. Diy doesn't have to be complicated but yes, if you want to make something you will need at least some tools.

I love the idea that framework laptops could be like GPUs where different companies make enclosures for them. I'd be on board with that

Beside ABS & PLA there is also PETG. Also motherboards can be screwed into wood pretty reliably. But yes, for a desktop solution, even nettop style one it needs to have a beefier cooler. So bigger cpu cooler or case with one would've been great.
You can't use PLA/PETG for this unless you SIGNIFICANTLY increase the size of the case to keep the heat away from the printed parts. Keep in mind, PLA isn't suitable for any heat at all and PETG shouldn't be taken above around 40 C. In this case, the CPU is producing more heat than PETG can handle(and it's only using 30W), while the rest of the system is producing even more due to power losses going straight to heat.
But it's partially moot because this is a mass market case. Injection molding > 3d printing if producing at Cooler Master scale and that means ABS/PC. They're an OEM, the production run numbers are WAY past what 3d printing can do.
@@Grimmwoldds I was under an impression that it's a only PLA that should be heated above 40°с, and for PETG it should be around 80°с. Still worse than abs, obviously. But even 80°с... Can it really be achieved anywhere inside the case outside from a heatsink with a direct contact with a cpu? And even then 80°с temperature on a cpu doesn't mean 80°с temperature of an exhaust. And high inside case temperature can't be achieved without a massive heating element, like in close chamber 3d printers with a massive heatbed and deliberatly little to no ventilation.
I wasn't able to find a source, but I seems to rmeember seeing some research about actual exhaust temp of hardware and it not even close to actual temperature on a die.
@@trashviewer3521 It's not a very large nor high flow cooling solution. You'd have to check it, but I'd guess that it's the exhaust temp is high enough to soften PLA/PETG. The temps given for heat deflection are how much to soften it to bend a certain amount in a short time. When used in a computer case, you don't EVER want to use PLA or PETG. If you subject them to even 40C for a few days they will warp and sag(you're usually putting load onto them). Exhaust from cooling fins, being near an SSD, or even proximity to the power stages...
I bought one CM Stacker 730 Case in 2006 - Still rocking my i9-13900K with a 4080 in it, cooled with a 360 AIO. At that time, CM built for the Eternity. Today not so much anymore... That whine would kill me in the Framework. But at least CM is still trying...

If I wasn't hip deep in computer stuff that case and board would be really tempting to play around with. It would be fun to mount it to the back of my LG ultrawide monitor and see how it performs.
the fan is the biggest issue, there needs to be a replacement cooling system that can fit a bigger much more pleasant fan
10" or 11", 1080p screen (I forgot which), would be great for turning it into a handheld PC.

If the torx fit isn't 100%, use a thin piece of rubber band between the head and the bit. Push down and turn slowly :)

For me the case makes the old boards easy to resell, which increase the price to performance for frameworks significantly.
5:15 It is always adviced, to use a power supply that is utilized at around 70 - 80% MAX
It is not healthy for a power supply, to be used at it's absolute limits
And that counts also for it's efficiency, so you draw significantly more power than you use otherwise.
The loud fan seems to be caused by a temperature sensor inside placed badly on both the Intel and AMD version. Using third party community tools on linux and windows does solve the issue until Framework gives us a proper fan controller (they have no plans for it btw)
The high frequency whistle is disappointing with the cooler master case. I wonder if there are some modifications that can be done to stop it. I think it's still the cleanest case to get to re-home the framework board

Good video, but yet again I am concerend about the volume of the Framework as I really want to get away from a loud laptop, lets hopy the AMD version and 16 inch version suffer less from this issue.

the GPU enclosure idea is a good one, maybe they will add USB4 to their boards and make USB4 to PCI-e cables and reach out to you for the design for another Framework+ product.
The Intel boards have 4 Thunderbolt 4 ports, and the Ryzen board has 2 USB4 ports.

Sounds like FW should collaborate with someone, to make VESA adapters for 50mm to 75mm, and for mounting arms and stands, with the FW case attached.

As a Backpack PC. It should Hug on my and my Monitors backside. Adding up a Soundbar Dockingstation. RGB Background Ambilight. Shades and Lighting. And wait a moment to make it Lengendary ......a AC Unit. And a Rack to Store Equipment. Like Keyboard and Mouse etc. And a Microwave and Buttercream.

Have the Coolermaster case with the 11th gen i7 Framework board and it works great. Not having the fan sound problems.
Regarding the power supply, I'm using the standard power brick that comes with the laptop and also not having any issues. Did you disable the battery in the bios? That is recommended by Framework.
Note that it doesn't seem fit their amd boards. Two out of three users trying it on the forums had issues. The one in which it did work I'm not sure was even using the coolermaster case, they may have been using some other case in standalone mode.
I believe that the Framework Laptop Board will become a standard PC mother board in the future.
I wonder how hard it would be to print a bracket that would allow a mechanical keyboard to be mounted over the bottom half of the case in place of the "lid"...
Great coverage of this product, but it was marred by the audio being so out of sync with your mouth movements.
UPDATE: The audio sync is perfect when restarting the video a day later. I don't know why it was not yesterday on the same device.

I had the same issue. I usually need to turn off the tv, switch apps and then switch back to TH-cam

The audio is perfect now on my Android tablet, the same device I used yesterday. I did not have sync issues with other videos yesterday, but now this one if fine too. Weird.
You could use a 3d printed part to basically bum your vesa mount and have the framework attach below

Add a couple nuts into the mix and you can still mount it on a vesa mounting plate. Putting this on a secondary vesa arm sounds like a power move.

I feel like you have a misunderstanding of what shrinkage in plastic does. The shrinking and expansion only occurs when being cooled or heated respectively. Your ABS case did NOT shrink after a years time. It shrinks as slowly as or as fast as you cool it. As long as you are not impatient and toss your motherboard into the 3d printed case while it is still hot off of the build plate there will be no issues. When your ABS or other thermoplastic parts are done you should cool it to room temperature before doing anything with them for any use.
No I completely understand how thermoplastic polymer chains work, and how they continue to tighten or loosen over time based on many factors. Initial cooling rate, and temperature only bieng two of the factors. In this case it is very likely due to the below average annual humidity rate and lower air density which dosent allow for the ideal proportion of solvent molecules to evenly distribute the chains. In simple terms, the plastic is drying out.

Even if we were to humour your false assumption the shrinkage and expansion resulting from it assuming isothermal conditions would not cause any motherboard to crack as you boldly claim. Additionally, any shrinkage or expansion that occur after the initial cooling is more likely due to, as you said humidity and temperature fluctuation, which would not cause any damage to a motherboard unless you have tension on the board to begin with. In simple terms, unless you are bending your board and inserting to a undersized case, what you say is not possible.
@@XxBanziixX1 I didn't say the board will crack. However in the past year the ABS printed case DID in fact shrink by over a millimeter across the X axis. That could definetly cause damage to one or more of the board mounted UBC-C ports. They are pretty fragile and the soldier points are easily cracked. Speaking from experience. If the board bowed or twisted due to the shrinking case that could easily lead to movement of the heatsink, which is secured with leaf spring tension, causing improper cooling of the CPU or VRM. Also speaking from experience. I've been tinkering with this mainboard for 2 years, I'm very familiar with it's extremely tight tolerances.
so, can you mount just the case to a desk arm? most monitors are either stand/arm or vesa, as youve said, so mounting this thing to a separate arm would be an option. but is it? i think it would look cool on an arm next to the monitor(s). btw, how are thermals when mounted to a monitor? is there any gap between the two for at least some airflow?

I think this has some massive missed opportunities, on both the case and mainboard sides of it. I/O is one problem area, four ports max but limited to three due to the power supply, split between two sides, of which one mounting solution is _behind a display_ where reachability will become problematic on virtually everything due to position. The I/O should've been broken out into an external hub, one that also fits nicely into the stand, power passthrough included, and personally I'd rather see at least four USB ports, two or three video outs, and either audio or another USB for those that use DACs. Another thing, which this might come down to circuitry reasons and lack of full-power overhead (as laptops have this AC+DC mode that provides a higher power draw while also charging, or at least they used to), but why do we not have power input where the battery connection was. Similarly, why are we not also seeing an eDP to DP board on the internal display connector. Again something else I'd like to see, though depending on implementation this is probably better left to a future update, is keyboard and trackpad as USB devices just so that chassis swaps can tap these two peripherals' connectors for I/O purposes. Beyond these things, one thing I would like to see is a better cooling solution, now that the mainboard isn't in a compact case, possibly even with a thermalpadded backplate if the backside gets toasty at all. I definitely think a next-gen FW needs a lot more ecosystem forethought, beyond just USB-C adapter modules and the idea of using alternate chassis, the platform itself actually needs to be flexible in its utilization, such as adapting internal peripherals to be USB/DP so that these peripheral ports can become I/O within an alternate chassis, or how the power solution should be simplified to just using the internal connector in the same situation. I haven't seen too much promo of the newer FW 16, but I'm really hoping they're still early enough in development to make these kinds of changes before it becomes yet another wishlist of hopes for a future generation of the product. I just don't think we currently see the same kind of forward thinking that they have with repairability is being fully applied to reusability, as it's more of just a chassis swap with sacrifice instead of the absolute most full utilization of the board within the alternate cases; the less hubs I have to use, the better, the more consolidated the I/O is overall, the better, and of course there's a balance of the two but we also shouldn't be using a 10-in-1 hub off a single port if we don't have to.

The noise is what I did not like. I'll check if the whine is there too. I also forgot the audio board. If I want one now I also have to pay another €30 shipping.... I have a 11th gen in. I upgraded to the 13th gen. my wifi board clip was in the rubber stand bag.

Frameworks should bulid a laptop where you can take the main board out slap it on a handheld chasis and dominate handheld gaming.
This is neat but I thought it was a GPU case or cooler. I'm in need of replacement fans for my used 1070 but I can't find the exact ones PNY used, an aftermarket cooler would also solve the problem.
Can I buy the mainboard(with kit) and the case? Was planning to build one for work, my current gaming PC consumes a lot of power for the task that I am doing lol.
So if I understood correctly, you get a little less performance without the battery attached (and then there's the problem of not being able to update the firmware without it). If that's the case and Framework doesn't fix that with software, I guess it would be useful to get an adapter that connects to the battery connector and to another PSU (or Maybe the same?) Right? I guess that's possible and would fix those issues, but idk if it's worthy.
