  • The history of mankind in Abruzzo, from the first humans to appear on Mount Maiella (about 700,000 years ago) to the Industrial Revolution. The aim is to show the ethnic and cultural development of the region and the reasons for its conti-nuation into the twentieth century. The cultural development of the rural population was profoundly influenced by the difficult mountainous terrain which imposed a mainly sheep-raising economy, charaaerized by winter transhumance, or the driving of flocks to warmer grazing areas in the cold weather. This practice lasted for about four thousand years.

I live in Colorado after seeing the video by the way it was very informative. I was stuck by the similarities between Abbruzzo and Colorado deffentevely going back when I retire !!

No one know what happened hundreds of thousands of years ago . This is all stipulation and guesswork. Most likely not what happened.

The Fino Tatars were the Bulgars, right? 15:20. Everytime I try to look up information on Bulgars in Italy. I only hear of them settling in Molise and Campania. This Video is the only source of information that says they settled in Abruzzo. Would love to hear others input on this.

it says people from today's bulgaria, not today bulgars (wich settled bulgaria many centuries later).

Da queste immagini si da un'idea distorta della realtà, qui sembra tutto arido e desolatamente spoglio , invece in verità c'è molto verde, e la natura è ricchissima per flora e fauna.

Interesting. Many do not realise that these people were in Abbruzzo long before the Romans came. Nor are many aware of the Germanic influence, hence the red haired and blonde people found in that region. I was surprised at how pagan some of their religious rituals are and how the idea of the Earth Mother often features. And how 8.portant nature worship was/still is to some there eg worshipping the sun etc to make crops grow etc
Fascinating history. Thank you. Only one thing about this good video. The background music was OK but a little too loud and this distracts from what is being said.

Regarding the background music, I totally agree with Annemarie May. It is too loud and cancels out the speakers words in some parts of the conversation. Thank you for this informative video though.
