- In this video we will be doing a simple quick install of Bonnet Hood Struts using a 2021 Isuzu D-Max Bonnet Strut kit. Will be installing these gas struts on the D-MAX X-Terrain build, quick and easy. It's strange they don't come with these already installed right!? ⏩ Where did this start?
I really enjoy tinkering with different projects - they usually require a whole bunch of research and learning along the way. It's satisfying on doing a thing and standing back and going 'Yeah! Totally did that!'. I had a bunch of mates asking 'how did you know how to do that?' and 'I couldn't never do that myself so I thought; I need to start something where I can help others that might be thinking the same thing :)
⏩ What will you find here?
The purpose is simply to make these videos as top quality and helpful as I can. They will always be free, there's ZERO agenda and the only motive is to try and upload what I would want to watch to help with that particular project. I'm also keen to keep building this little community and will try to answer all questions when asked - fire away :)
⏩ What's with the gloves?
Not after any TH-cam fame here which is why I'm not in the vids - they're not about me they're about the how-to! I used the gloves for the first couple of projects I filmed which just happened to be messy ones and it kinda just became a thing. Plus adds a little more personality I guess :)

I have a blue d'max. And yeah I have the same light blue in the engine bay. Also thank you for all the vids and info.

Purchased and bought from the link, went to fit today and the bolt cut outs on the brackets are too small for the factory bolts so I went out and got a dremel ($230 with quality grinding tool) also the ball joints next to the headlights were too small for the hole so trip for stainless washers, all in all not as quick as seen here given all that but prepare as I now am and it’s a breeze, great product, if all the stars aligned for this mod it’d take 20 mins 👍 (I always wanted a dremel ✌️)
great set of videos, Im over in the UK and my under bonnet is the same as yours, MIca Blue Over spray.
I bought the kit from the eBay seller. The holes in the brackets are too small to fit my bolts from the bonnet. And I didn't get any washers in the kit for the bolts with the ball-heads. They can easily pull through the holes without washers. FYI for people considering buying from the eBay seller. I've got a 2022 D-Max. But Adam, your vids are great! Keep 'em coming!

@@VideoShowMeHow yeah I’ve sent them an email. Your brackets look like they have holes, mine have slots. Maybe a change in design for some reason.

Got the kit from Ebay but found I needed to re-drill the M8 slots in the bracket to fit the bonnet bolts. Ball studs also needed 8mm washers (none in kit) and I added rubber backing washers to protect the paint.
My under bonnet is the Volcanic Amber. It's a 2022 model. I bought my struts off Ebay and they were not the same as the ones you show here. I had to add washes to stop the ball joints from pulling through the holes.

Yet another awesome video. Love your work, and especially love the detail you go into for each of these videos. My Volcanic Amber bonnet and engine bay are all fully painted and looks like it’s even clear coated. Compliance plate date 12/20.

I've checked my bonnet mine is Mercury Silver and underside of bonnet is Silver as well just not as much shine on the bottom

lol ah sorry mate for the one hand action mate.. unfortautnely it's not as simple as just using a chesty (I use a dslr as well to film) and even the 9black is hopeless without perfect light. Hope you can stick with it :)
My black 2022 has the same grey engine bay. Seems to be similar to the wheel arches.

I've got a cobalt blue LSU and the underneath of the bonnet is much the same. Maybe a little darker perhaps.

@@VideoShowMeHow Well I've only noticed it since you mentioned it in the vid.. I literally walked out to check it straight away. Initially with no bright lights it looks like a painted Matt blue colour.. As soon as I hit it with some bright lights it looks really grey in colour. Maybe mines got more coverage and it's a bit darker but it could totally be lighting too. Hhhmmm...

Shipping across the ditch is a killer, but I've sourced a strut supplier here in Kiwiland for relative pennies, be nice to know I'm not buying struts that aren't long enough or will foul the closing.
FYI my Onyx Black lid is fully painted and shiny underneath, sorry.

Would these struts fit in the new mux?
When they are made in Thailand (like all these so called ute's) their under coated in that cheap undercoat grey colour and they save $50 not painting in the engine bay! Toyota has been doing it for 40 years!!

Hey mate. On the choice of this product, was there a reason this one was your choice? I'm just looking around at what there is, because if there's three mods I'm gonna do myself, its going to be this, the rear struts, and the central locking mod for the tailgate. It seems crazy this ute comes with neither bit of kit. Perhaps Isuzu is prepping to release these as add-ons down the track...
This one seems to be the best kit from what I found. Wanted one locally but couldn't find! Yes def seems to be a few of these mods should have been factory, particularly the next couple of vids about to be released :)

Hi Adam, finally got my XT Dmax. I purchased the kit you had a link to. I find the struts keep coming off the ball near the headlight. Both sides. What am I doing wrong? Comes off when I close the bonnet.
Hey Steve, congrats! I had one of them with that issue, I don't think it was clipping in properly, I needed up clipping the ball first to the strut then installing, haven't had an issue since

Might be a good idea to contact the mob who provide these things for you to fit and review not to ve so lazy in that they cant be bothered to reply to emils and messages on theit ebay site.
Seems they ony want your money and thats it no contacting customers that keep them in business
