I have driven my Dads recently - the 1600e is a well-balanced car; no power steering or servo assisted brakes - so at low speed the steering is heavy, but with great feel. The brakes require some foot pressure, but they work well. The driving position has a good view. The four speed is really easy to use, and the clutch has predictable bite. The Lotus designed suspension gives an excellent ride - definitely a well sorted machine. The wooden trim and vinyl seats are of the period; and the interior has the smell of the cars of the period - petrol, vinyl and rubber; my Dads car always smells the same.
I used to have an H reg back in 1980 when i was a young lad,my first car, loved that car,i was going to rebuild it at some point, got all the front inner wings, rear inner wings, sills etc etc just never got round to it so i stripped it doown and put the engine into a MK11 escort estate originally with an 1100 engine in,i also put the 1600e axle on uprated all the springs and shockers, vented discs on the front, close ration steering rack with a small sterring wheel, complete 2" bore exhaust system with a new 4 branch manifold and put the rostyle wheels on as well. That car was so much fun,it sounded great it was quick up to about 90 and it went round corners very well indeed.
Marky boy, proper old school mechanic, I have faith, he's going to fire it up, that's one of the cars that came with the mk1 Cortina, glad to see you saving all the parts, someone somewhere is always looking for even the smallest part especially trim and interior bits, you just can't get them
That was more entertaining than l thought . Bunch of mates having a lark . Never thought that would turnover and as you said there's a lot of very usable parts and they make good money ! ...good fun!
This Ford Cortina is a bit more crusty then the used one I drove in HS from 1972-74. Great Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) cruiser. Tried to kill it several times but it always brought me back alive. So much more classy (loved wooden dash and manual transmission) then the Ford Pinto that replaced it in USA.
Loved the 2 videos on this car, and it was this video that made me buy a Topdon JS3000. These are awesome!! You guys should try & get a paid promotion with them & a discount on these - I thought it wouldn't start my MG ZTT but sure as the video's say, one press of the boost & she fired on the first turn of the key! Keep up the great work lads
Hi guy’s i was at the Earl’s Court motershow when this model came out i think it was 67 ford displayed in the gold colour in a large glass box it was the bees knees all us guys lusted after it.how sad to see it know Les
Sad old girl, but it was someone's pride & joy once. Lots of great once only parts. Interior , dash & clocks engine/g/box propshaft, back axle & other running gear, one wing Front nearside looked OK, but the rest is ash! That will make ca$h for someone who wants them, and pay for the old car, then there's the monetised YT film!
Should do, there is nothing hard about getting 1970s cars going try it with a 2015 Range Rover dragged out of a lake ......nope, we wont be doin' any of that LOL
Even a top of range 1600E Cortina can look terrible after years of being abandoned. My grandad had only had a low spec 1300 Deluxe in the 1970s. There are more 1600E survivors than the more basic Mk2s.
Hi from durham guys👋👍 great news at least it turns over so far 👌 get female nail file between the points and hit them plugs with wire wheel ant I think its a winner and surprised it didn't snap in hal when rolled of truck 😂 still plenty bits to help get others on the road lol hope it fires thi 👍 thanks for your time and be safe see you soon👍👋
Why would anyone let a vehicle go that far before getting rid of it? That's what I don't understand,...if you no longer want it or can't afford to repair/keep it on the road, pass it on before it gets into this state please.
Don't unlatch the bonnet noooooo. OOps the struts have pushed what was left of the inner wings heavenwards and the Cortina is kneeling. Amazed it didn't happen.
inertial starter, my mini had one.,when the battery was low it would just spin and the bentdick wouldn't engage with the fly wheelie willing to bet it would be a straight swap and it was a Lucas.
Was the car parked on the beach almost in the sea water for the last 20--30 years???? WHY stuff about unbolting the bonnet???? Body is STUFFED anyway, SAVE TIME just use a grinder with cutting disc, body is ONLY fit for the melting pot anyway!!!!!!!
I it's day, that Ford must have been a beautiful car to own and drive.
Yes I remember these new, they were a class car and I always wanted one.

I could never imagine a MkII could rot like that. But that front bumper looks great. I built a few Cortinas back in the late 70's.

Had to laugh as my wife said Marcus looks like an oily Phill Collins! 😂🤣
Yep she’ll fire up. If only they had better rust proofing back in the 70’s

Old school is the best 👌

Christ almighty - where was this stored?!! Tragic that a 1600E got to this point.
Looks like it’s been in a pond for 50 years 😂
Would be very sad to see it go to waste though.
Are you from Accrington ? I need some parts. Charlotte x
Yep, in Baxenden
Any parts for my 123 estate petrol 2.3 TE . Can I call over and have a look round sometime. Please.
Charlotte xx
You guys are so much fun to watch, great vid, that starter motor freed up great. Looking forward to seeing it run..
Go on Marky boy!! Good old x-flow!
I think it'll run 👌 loads of usable bits still on it.... on to part 2 👍
Had 3 mk 2 Cortinas 1500 Super&Gold E as parts cars & Good 1600e from both.Happy memories.Good banter lads.👍❤

Great video thanks, that cortina brought back some memories,
Can't believe you left us hanging boys , cheers for the video
That used to be the car of jeremy clarkson’s dad! a 1600 e, he was so proud of that 😂
That ull run I reckon guy's plenty of bits to help keep others on the road you could even put that 1600 Kent engine in most fords of that era ♥️👍👍
Even if the engine try’s to fire it’s a good un . Pull the dash you don’t have worry about crushing the body work just sweep up what is left.
Marcus will definitely get it running James
Keep up the good work, very entertaining

If marky gets it going I’ll fetch you some treats down boys
Breakies on you dean 😂
I'd say, that would make a great spares car. But that body looks proper gone!🤔
Good reliable x flow but no rust prevention back in 70s sent em all to scrapyard.
Awesome video thanks lads
What a crying shame to see such a classic in such a poor state.
Love these videos 🤣🤣🤣

The owner should have Washed & polished that car every week.
It will now need a full Paint job.
there is nothing really wrong with this car,all it needs is stp, a good rub with compound and a coat of diamond bright
First shot,, its billbo ben😲does ben run?🏃
That's the same colour as my Dad's Mk. IV Zodiac - Amber Gold Metallic.

It will run.good old xflow engine
Don't unlatch the bonnet noooooo. OOps the struts have pushed what was left of the inner wings heavenwards and the Cortina is kneeling. Amazed it didn't happen.

How sad, all the bits are there and it has all the signs of a low mileage car. The Kent engine will burst into life no problem.
When I’m doubt give it a clout haha
Plenty of spares still on this car.
Poor old Cortina... 🙁
Please stop trying to be comedians it’s getting worse
Get me a breakie......that's all they say
👍👍👍
Thats one rusty car.....
❤😎👍
🤙🤙🤙🤙
We all say we need
Spark
Fuel
Air
But a good Crank is also required 🤦♂️
Will not run very very crusty car.
Painful to watch if only they had a bit of a clu
Just curious what would you of done different we love constructive criticism!
Must be restored
