I can relate to this comment so much! My first car was a mk1 Cortina, my second car was a mk1 Escort, every morning, especially in Nz winter, my folks were serenaded by cranking and “start ya b%#tard!”, always when I was running late….
The soundtrack of my life! I have owned 1600E's continuously since 1982 , first one was an Amber Gold like this. Cold starting was never a Ford strong point so yes the sound of strained starters and slower and slower cranking and drained batteries. I've probably wasted 6 months of life sitting and turning the key in expectation!
😂 I would sit in mine at 6am turning it over sometimes it would start others it wouldn't. Go to work thinking I must sort that out when I get home in the evening. Guess what? The bloody thing would start first go. Happy those days have gone. Looking back I can laugh now 😂
I remember the Kent engines. A good simple engine that was relatively easy to work on and, if serviced regularly, would give little trouble. A fair performer too for the time.
Love these start the old hen boxes up again, great to see Marcus is breathing new life into an ol hen box. This same old OHV ford 4Cyl engine was used for years right up to end of the 90s in fiestas and escorts with electronic ignition and then single point injection. Was pretty strong and reliable Reminds me of being an apprentice in a Ford Dealership working on the same engine OHV used in the later ford fiestas and the tappets needing set and sounding like a bag of spanners. 1 down set 8 6 down set 9. Me mechanic explaining the rule of "9" when setting valve clearences and then the engine sounding really quiet. Customer used to think they got an new engine , only took 30 mins to do. Good memories 27 years ago :)
Hi from Durham guys 👋 👍 what a toppa it ran 👌 and for the fact you never opened carbon or hit Gill chamber the flaot needle and jet probe weren't even letting fuel thru so was just running on start fluid but yep it popped off👍 if you mixed a bottle of petrol with drop of 2 stroke oil and went straight down it's throat it might of been more productive under bottle feed tho great shout 👌 woohoo thanks for your time be safe and see you soon 👍 👋
Evening chaps Just put petrol straight in the carb , that easy start won’t do much if the carb is bone dry , you think it’s got to get all the way into the inlet manifold and pistons
Cracking old sewing machine ,Kent’s are so strong shame it didn’t run properly,I had 2 out of the box E’s in the late seventies and early eighties they are best cortina except for heavy steering ❤
I live near York been too four places today for some Easy Start without finding any turns out there lads at Baxenden have cornered the world market in Easy Start great video lads
This Cortina will sure need a alot of work and time to have it looking new again ..... I'd look for a donor shell and take what's good and useable to build a useable mk 2 Cortina ....etc 🤩😃😁

You guys are not listening to the engine. When its going to start dont spray it. Over spraying is the same as flooding it. Your supposed to add more spray/ fuel when it sounds like its losing power/ going to cut off to keep it running. Cheers!
What are doing with all the scrap pallets? I know a lad who will take them all of you👍 One thing I don’t understand🤷 why don’t you pipe a proper petrol supply up, rather than spraying easystart into the engine, I was under the impression Easy start is not good for engines🤔

I stuck a 1600E engine in our old series 1 Transit, put a diesel bonnet and front on it. WAY better than the 1700 V4, crap engine!!! Never really heard that engine run though, bit disappointing tbh.

Had a mk2 replica GT back in the day with 1600, a twin choke Weber, extractors and don't know what cam it had but it ran nicely.
