    I own 3 Savage rifles, 2 of them are the Axis models. One is a 270 and the last one I bought is a heavy barrel 6.5 Creedmoor, both shoot MOA or under with my reloads and IMHO are some of the most accurate rifles under $1500 out there. The resistance on opening the bolt is because the Axis cocks on opening, I'd rather have it there than on closing when I'm trying to get back on target. They truly are the best bang for the buck out there.

    • @OutdoorsAnonymous

    I thought you did a great job making this content. You were articulate and it flowed nicely. I thought you produced it well. Enjoyed it! My Axis did not shoot well at first. I installed and properly torques bases and rings, lapped the rings centric, and leveled the scope. I took it home and cleaned the daylights out of it. Took it back to the range and it shoot sub MOA after 2-3 fouling rounds. I let new hunters I take hunting use it when I take them on their first hunt.

    They had two models of the same gun where I ordered mine. The one I ordered comes with the Weaver scope and the slightly more expensive one comes with a Bushnell scope. However they had one for about $100 more with a stainless Barrel and I really saw no point on spending the extra money since I take care of my guns and keep them in good working order anyway. After seeing this video I do not regret my decision to order it. Thank You.

    Picked my Savage Axis 2 in 308 today, it's bore sighted out the box. After a few rounds got the scope sighted in, for a budget rifle that can kill a bear you can't beat it.

    Good video Man! For a guy who is just starting out you are doing well!
    A couple of tips:
    1. Always clean the bore and chamber thoroughly when you get it out of the box.
    2. Disassemble the scope rings and mounts. Clean everything with isopropyl alcohol and reassemble with blue Loctite and let it sit for 24 hours. I have seen many rifles that come from the factory where the scope bases weren't assembled using Loctite and they were loose to boot. You can waste a bunch of ammo chasing that problem.
    After you get about 80 rounds down the pipe it should really settle down and group consistently.
    Look into getting a Mcarbo Pro Trigger Kit for it. The best $20 you'll ever spend. Very easy to install and it makes a huge improvement! Your groups will shrink for sure.

    • @OutdoorsAnonymous
      @OutdoorsAnonymous  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tips and I appreciate you checking out the video! Yeah, the mount did start coming loose after a couple of outings after I filmed this video - I had to take it apart then and put loc-tite and re-zero it!

    i get your a new shooter, but place little neon banisters or tape like things on trees and watch through your scope for the wind direction, very important for becoming a marksman or anyone using a sniper.
    also when you going farther back than 150m dont kneel, youll make it harder for yourself; go prone as if your army crawling, feet opposite of each facing different direction; one leg curled up and give er. nice hunting.

  • @lucmaille7920

    I have that same rifle, mine is a bit rarer because it has a 20 inch barrel with open sights and a scope. I changed the trigger on mine with an aftermarket trigger and bedded the stock and will now shoot 1/2 inch groups. It is a difficult rifle to master because of its light weight and the fact that it's a 308 but I got the hang of it now, you just got to really concentrate on building a solid position and make sure your finger is 90 degrees on the trigger in order to pull it straight back. Don't worry about the stiff bolt it will lighten up significantly with use and become crazy smooth.

    • @OutdoorsAnonymous
      @OutdoorsAnonymous  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good to hear about the bolt! That was the main bugger for me haha other than that I love the rifle. Don’t think I’m going to be making any changes on it for a while as it just serves as my “bush gun”
      I used it to harvest a deer not long ago, hit exactly where I aimed perfect heart shot so I’m 1000% satisfied with its performance! Not to mention lugging it around in the bush was easy and convenient!
      Check out my deer hunt video with this rifle too if you get a chance!
      And thanks for watching, hope you sub and stick around for other vids!

    I can say that with minimal practice you can make this rifle sub MOA. I took my stock savage axis and just added new scope rings and a bipod and can consistently make sun MOA groups. No accu trigger mind you. BUT in its current configuration it is not a range toy. That pencil barrel heats up fast. Any more than 3 rounds in 20 minutes and you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. It is a cold bore tack driver. Some $2-3k guns have a hard time keeping up with it.
    I own multiple savage rifles and they are all tack drivers. If you don’t have one you are missing out.

    • @OutdoorsAnonymous
      @OutdoorsAnonymous  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes but if somebody doesn’t have that you can always remove your bolt and look through to line it up like I did. The laser pointers arent 100% accurate and you’d shoot a few groups to dial it in after regardless. But it does give you a good idea on where to start.

    @alexcurry5541 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    savage axiss can be very accurate rifles. Id recommend taking some of the material of the stock out that surrounds the barrel to make sure it doesnt touch. The biggest issue with these rifles are the stocks being too flexible. Also putting some epoxy in the forend to stiffen the stock up helps too. I have an axis 1 before the accustock and an axis 2 with accutrigger and theyre both 1 moa all day. Hope you love the new knockaround rifle.

      Great rifle indeed! Yeah I noticed that on mine with the stock, what did you do to take material off it just file it down a bit? I got around the stock touching the barrel by the way I wrap around my arm & pull on the sling using it as a stabilizer to shoot, it pulls the stock away from touching the barrel. But at rest it does touch. Thanks for the tip!

      @@OutdoorsAnonymous I've used rough metal files and then sanpapered it to smooth it out. Just about any metal file or grit will take the plastic right off these stocks. some people epoxy in fiberglass arrow shaft pieces too to make it stiffer.

    I've had my Axis 308 for a couple years and never shot past 100yd. A couple weeks ago I took it to a precision rifle class and was one of a few that was hitting steel at 400. It was at the end of class and kind of a free for all with targets from 100 to 400. I thought it was funny because there was a guy there with his Gucci gas gun, $250 UF Pro combat pants, and high-speed fingerless gloves that couldn't hit much past 200. Just goes to show that Gucci doesn't trump skill.

    I believe it is a great rifle but the weaver scope it came with the lens fell apart inside the scope so i bought a Xbolt medallion over the summer with a leupold scope for my first hunting rifle but I’m gonna get a scope for my savage eventually

      Yeah the weaver scope is of cheap quality for sure but it does the job until it breaks. Sucks that yours broke so quick! I'm planning on just using it as-is until the scope goes then I'll replace it. But still with something on the low-end too as its mainly used as my bush gun as I mentioned in the vid!

      I plan on getting a Nikon scope for the 308 and putting the weaver on my 22 since I don’t have a scope for it

      Yeah I’m gonna use the weaver on it till it breaks or falls apart which I’m sure is bound to happen with that scope lol then I’ll think about replacing it!

    Great review. I just purchased the same rifle. I’ve heard the sight mounts can be loose from the factory and can through off the aim; did you have to tighten anything when you first got it? Please keep us updated with your experiences with the rifle.

      Thanks for watching and congrats on your new rifle too! I haven't had an issue yet with the sight mounts since I sighted it in and I've taken it hunting a couple of times now. I do have some loctite rdy if it does loosen up though. Since I just picked up loctite to use on the new Girsan MC28 i just picked up.. now THAT had issues with loose sights - actually just posted a recent video on my review on that gun as well.
      Hope you stay tuned for future content on my channel :)

    It's supposed to be sighted in out of the box however I wasn't even hitting paper at 100 yards. I'll have to take it out again and see how far off it is

    • @OutdoorsAnonymous
      @OutdoorsAnonymous  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Never trust the sight in out of box for 100, reconfirm at 25 or 50 first then again at 100. I have a couple more recent vids on zeroing you might want to watch.

    What optic did the rifle come with? $400 is a screaming deal. Where did you get it?

    • @OutdoorsAnonymous
      @OutdoorsAnonymous  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just a cheap Weaver scope, 4-12x, does the job though I think they’re a little more $ nowadays I believe you can still get em for about 450 and change on sale though at cabelas/basspro. I’m actually about to put out a 2 year ownership review vid of this thing next week I just filmed it.

    To sight in try using laser bore sight it will get you in better and take less shoots to sight in

    • @OutdoorsAnonymous
      @OutdoorsAnonymous  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bore sight was fine, it was the inconsistent rear rest & the bag i was shooting off of the first few shots that made it a bit wacky. Once i put some padding in the bag and got the rear rest in place it went alright.

      I use savage axis 308 too love it laser it don't have to tough it I have killed deer at 200 yards one shot

    • @OutdoorsAnonymous
      @OutdoorsAnonymous  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice, yeah it shoots really good. Did you see my deer hunt video with this rifle? Deer I took was about 125 yards shot went perfectly placed! Pretty confident to shoot this up to 200 / 250 yards the way it is right now too.
