    I don't have a Savage Axis, but I do have a Savage model 110 and the Mark 2 in 22lr. I like them both, the model 110 has an awesome trigger.

    Had a trade with a buddy that introduced me to the 3-9x40 Banner Dusk to Dawn line of scopes. Have to say it grew on me. For a single shot 44 mag it worked great. It wasn't a Nikon or Leupold. This was about 10 years ago. Don't know if the quality had stayed with that line of scopes.

    Bushnell scopes use to be better I have a few and they been sighted in for years and no issues. Mine are a mid grade the one that comes with the rifle are a low grade optic. I’ve also found that sometimes new rifles need time to settle. When doing what you did every few shots I would check action screw torque. Make sure they are staying nice and snug. Those savages are accurate I’m not the biggest fan of them because of the stock but they are accurate. Sometimes just needs more rounds through them. I would be interested to know if the accuracy is going to improve after 100-150 rounds have gone through it. Great suggestion on the caliber Doc. Excellent video Doc. Everything you need to know about the rifle and your opinion. 👍🏻👍🏻

      I agree about the stock which is why I replaced mine with a Boyd's stock. Otherwise, I would suggest pillaring the existing stock to stiffen it up.

      I was wondering about their Newer Elite 4500 series scopes. They have one that interests me. Not sure about their warranty though compared to leupold and burris which are forever warranties. Bushnell is only a 30 yr warranty looks like, which is a long time, but nice if it were really a "lifetime" warranty like they make it out to be.

    I had a savage axis 2 in 308 that came with that same scope. The scope would not hold zero at all. I have shot axis 1s with the weaver scopes and those have held zero just fine. I pulled the Bushnell and put a vortex diamondback on it and was much happier with the way it performed.

    the bolt release just requires you to pull the trigger to get it to go down fully, after that you can let go of the trigger which makes it a little easier. The ammo jamming on the second round usually happens for me as well, however its not a problem when feeding into the rifle like you said (the barrel picks the round up just enough to clear it from the mag).

    Wonder if factory rings were lows, or mediums. I'd think a medium would work if came with lows. I like the looks of the Axis and the Ruger A. think Id take a Ruger A over the Axis. If prices are jacked, and a Howa/Weatherby Vanguard could be had for similar money, I'd go that route maybe. Was considering a Axis in a 350 Legend to try, but considering other makes as well. One I will not get is the Mossberg rifles. One thing I wonder about with the stocks that change length of pull like these, is if they hold up over time, or fall apart. If your screwing into plastic, with the screws that hold it together and recoil, just wonder if cam loose, if would booger up threads with recoil.

    • @vameathunter2771

    I wouldn't be able to handle the height of that scope. I like mine so the scope is nearly touching the barrel.

    • @vameathunter2771
      @vameathunter2771  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that would be great for shooting in prone position or bench shooting especially in longer distances. But hunting in Virginia in thick woods where I only have few seconds to have my crosshair on the deer this height seems to work better for me, especially when I'm hunting from tree stands and shooting distances is under 100 yards. But it might just be my preference. 😂😂

    • @tray22
      @tray22 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vameathunter2771 A lot of it is personal preference. I hunted for 20 years with a knight mk85 muzzleloader and the scope was nearly on the barrel. I got used to having the scope set so my cheek would hit the stock and my eye lined up perfectly. My 300wm has a small cheek riser which allowed for medium rings. Love my 300wm.

    Nice rifle. For the price, it's a really good deal.
    I ended up getting the regular Savage Axis in .308 without the accutrigger. I did the MCarbo spring/trigger upgrade (I used the 2.5lb trigger apring) and changed the stock to a Boyd's Stock.
    Also, follow up on the Alien Gear holster Core Pack. I didn't like it and sent it back. You essentially get 4 holsters in one, but can only use one at a time, so it's kind of a waste of money. Just my opinion.

      What model Boyd’s and how was the fit? Drop in? Did you get the optional pillar bedding?

    • @IAMRUSTEDROOT
      @IAMRUSTEDROOT 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@billclay3643 Hey Bill. I ended up going with the Prairie Hunter style stock. The fit was perfect and simply bolted on with the existing 2 bolts that came with the original stock. I did not go with the pillar bedding as the wood stock is stiff enough. If I wanted pillar bedding, I would have just done that to the original cheap plastic stock. I did, however, camo paint my original stock and will keep it as a backup.

      If you are getting 7" at 100 yard, it's not you. Get a dependable scope & rings and make sure they are torqued to properly. Barrel stabilizer is a great idea but I don't think boyds stock is going to help.

    You would get better accuracy if you stuck that stock into your shoulder firmly. You can’t get a good group with that rifle bouncing around all over the place because your scared of the recoil.

    • @vameathunter2771
      @vameathunter2771  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope, you'll get best accuracy if you reduce any muscle tension to your rifle including your cheek, shoulder or holding forearm stock. In fact you'll see many sharp shooter minimizing any contact with the rifle and use free floating barrels. If you look at my channel I'm able shoot under 1 moa at 100 with all my rifles including lever action but this new rifle needs to be shot more to achieve copper equilibrium for better accuracy. Thanks for watching bro n God bless.
