- You've probably heard this song on the radio this summer. To the band's amazement, it's a worldwide hit. "It's even big in Turkey," they told us, shaking their collective heads, pleasantly bewildered. But it's easy to see why the song has caught on with its rolling, infectious energy, that chorus of "heys!" and a foreboding lyric that ends up reassuring us we're all going to make it safely back to shore.
And the six-member band itself -- with a trumpet player added for their 2012 tour -- clearly has its own charm, as we discovered when we spent an afternoon with them in L.A. They wear their sudden fame lightly -- quick to make jokes about themselves -- and they take obvious pleasure in playing music with each other.
Asked why they preferred singing in English, beyond the obvious desire to reach a global audience, drummer Arnar Rosenkranz Hilmarsson laughed and said in Icelandic songs, "It's easy to be cheesy."
We liked the spirit and bounce of "Little Talks" so much that we decided to make it the theme song for our next episode of SOUND TRACKS: Music Without Borders, which you can see October 5 on PBS, along with more music from Of Monsters and Men.

8 years down the line and am still in love
Absolutely agree with your comment. It's like a spoon of medicine this sound. Does the heart so good. Pure joy!!
The lady playing the trumpet is certainly killing it;) Simply beautiful!
I love it! Natural sounds without any technology enhancements! Also love the way the lady plays the trumpet! True talent and beautiful!
I cant describe how much i like this band. They give differ vibe from other bands. Their songs, their energy, the way they perform is just so good. They give good energy good vibes. So strong. They kinda give ancient viking vibes. Specially the drummer, arnar😂 love him. I like their songs how it beautifully written. I like the instrument. I like their vibes when performing. Like they genuinely love music i can see that when they perform. The way they always sound good performing live. I like the way they are talented in painting abstract too. I like the way they put their cultural vibe to their song. And they give me a friendly vibe. I just cant describe my feelings of them. Like i literally said about their vibe over and over again. I just wish that they all will still together making beautiful music.
Same. They have a warm, wholesome, and innocent vibe to them. And i love the drummer as well. Well everyone tbh. Each of them is active and involved, and critical to the music.
Saw these guys the other night in TX. It's amazing, even after a year of playing these same songs day after day, they still look like they genuinely enjoy it. Was such a fun show!
I am thankful this video exists on TH-cam.
I absolutely love that it's hard to tell the difference between this and the radio version. That's how you know the actually musical talent of a group or singer; whether or not they suck live. So, cudos. And I love this song and dirty paws. Stuck in my head for ages!
Not only is it live, but it is also acoustic.
They're sounds a little different in the studio because the volume of the instruments is adjusted in the studio, but no auto tune used. And that's how you know they have talent
MawsoGirl Your head must be an animal. xD
One of my favorites! Amazing song
so adorable to see them enjoying, what they do :) beautiful!
I feel like I hardly ever see Nanna smile. She smiled so much during this and it looks incredible on her (not that she doesn't already look incredible.) I never have enough kind words to say about this band. They fill my heart with joy.
His voice is amazing!
At 2:59, the way he strums the guitar when looking in Raggi's direction feels like he is saying something along the lines of "im too good"
Incredible voices.
Eles såo simplesmente fabulosos!!!! Essas vozes me encantam!!!
It's because of this song I fell in love them.
nice trumpet solo
My fay part of this video is Raggi and Nanna looking at each other and singing🥰❤
1:18
Los amo.. Deseo que pronto hagan un desenchufado con MTV.
his voice is amazing
i think this is an amazing song and band, how could anyone critasize a band for their own music? thats just not being a fan if you ask me. as for her voice, i find it intoxicating, and is complimented by his as well.
Why is Samwell Tarly playing guitar? O_o
ghost23830 *Samwell
What a great song!
No, this is what musicians do all day. They make great music.
Amazing tribute to the grief of a widow walking through the house she shared with her deceased husband and missing him so much
I love how they have so many different versions of their songs, like sometimes they will have a trumpet sometimes not, the way it's sung is different and they sometimes add different / new parts to their songs when they are done live.
I can listen to her sing all day, such a nice voice...
i love your first sessions.
Very nice. They got life figured out
I can't remember if they were big yet, but this clip on PBS was when I first heard them.

Grande raga e grazie

Like the purity of the song
Dam this guys are awesome terrific voice I loved it and the accent I wish I could speak like this guys love this video the best
Hey!
so talented
Love Nanna Bryndís!
I think this was an earlier arrangement. I'm no music student, but there was a version with the trumpet playing the main theme which I used to listen to (before it was removed from youtube). This was before the single release and was different from it, though I can't really describe how except that the trumpet was more prominent
Yeah, they have 3 or 4 versions, two of which feature the trumpet variations. In two early ones, there is no trumpet at all.
Did you see Of Monsters and Men last night on our PBS show, "Sound Tracks: Music Without Borders"? They sang our "global hit" -- their song "Mountain Sound." You can watch it online at pbs.org/soundtracks. Let other fans of the band know. Thanks.
muy buena canción
my fave song
So good
Amazing
Nanna has a spot of the Carey Mulligans.
Now I know their names.....Nanna! From there we can find her has great change, the most of most is she looks smart and beauty, also sophisticated of all, Monster ah ah!! Time and wealth will let do so!
i love you guys!! :) :) :) you're awesome!!
THEY ARE LIKE A GROUP OF EPIC VIKINGS
amazing band, the drummer looks like techno viking !
Left handed guitar. Cool.
Essentially, yes.
Is it sad that I feel old when I say that they all look so young? I remember when this video was first posted...
look at them now. They are grown and famous. Their style is different too 😀 I kinda miss the old them. I wish i was a hipster when i was 8
That's my point!! Agree with you 100%
i love!
eu tambem adimiro a trompetista eu nem sei o nome dela ela quase nao aparece sera que ela faz parte da banda.?
we have the best lives
esto es una rumba!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy smokes -- great find! Scandinavian is making the US and England look like chumps when is comes to making really great music that isn't pop schlock. I mean, screw sales - GaGa, Minaj? Not real muisc. Anna Ternheim? Ane Brun? These guys! "Hell to the Yeah" Can we get the version of Mountain Sound uploaded soon please! I'll be seeing these guys in NYC next month!
Great song and performance! Um... this is the band that wrote the song, and she is the original singer!
What are you talking about? This is the original band, and this is the original song so.. They did an amazing job and all those people that are saying they didnt write the song, look it up and get your facts straight
I hope you will come to austria again :)
me 2 :P
Love this Song ... It was the first i played on the guitar :)
Raggi should sing more often on their songs.
She's really pretty, I hope one day I can meet her.
where exactly do you spot 'hipster'?
lovely(:
The only difference is they beat the hell out of anything Edward has done
Chaz bono has a nice voice
Nanna, I Love You! She is truly a beautiful lady.
❤️❤️❤️
PBS needs to get a better camera.
🖤😍👌👌👌
Yay
Mumford and Sons released their album in Oct 2009 & didnt reach the top of the charts in UK til Feb 2011. Of monsters and men formed in 2009, won Músíktilraunir March 2010 w Little Talks as one of their pieces. Do you really think that they waited til Sigh No More to come out & get popular to completely change their aesthetic and "try" to be the next Mumford &Sons? it takes a little more than a couple of months to write and perfect a set list. go take your rage out on justin beiber or something
Nanna❤
@kagriffith2391 couldn't agree more with you. They are unique and sooooooo talented. They have seriously become one of my favorite bands EVER
I LOVE NANNA FROM MOSTERS OF MEN!!
chips and caviar lol
I'm pretty sure they all learn English as well as Icelandic from a young age. I think Norway and the other Scandinavian countries do as well so it's a great place to travel because you can get around using only English.
I found her voice stronger when not pushed through, I prefer the earlier version
is tom hardy the drummer?
I prefer the older performances where it was the accordion playing the main theme, not the trumpet.
it shouldn't matter that she's hot? she makes good music, that's all that matters.
