A little over a year ago my wife wanted to get the RAV4 Prime and wanted to compare it to the Model Y. I have the Model 3 and she wanted something to replace her Leaf. So on Labor Day weekend we rented a new RAV4 Prime on Turo and Tesla gave us an overnight test drive of a Model Y 5 seat Long Range. The one absolute between the cars was the ability to put our dog crates in the back and have them accessible to us while we drive there would be no compromise on this. We compared driving, noise, I have a decibel meter, comfort and of course cargo space. We spent the better part of a day simply measuring the interior and driving around. We already knew where to drive to get the noisy concrete freeway areas and some rough residential roads. We even went to our local pet supply house and compared portable dog crates in both cars side to side. She really wanted the RAV4 Prime but after the comparison we purchased the Model Y. As she said, "I really want the RAV4 Prime but in every measurable way the Model Y was better. Additionally, the Model Y qualified for the $7500 credit and the RAV4 didn't. That plus the RAV4 Prime was already more expensive than the Model Y. We purchased the Model Y that weekend and it was delivered Tuesday morning to our home straight off the assembly line in Fremont. Edit: When we tested the lane holding in the RAV4 Prime is at best scary. The Model Y is near perfect. We use it a lot of the freeway. That was a major point against the RAV4 Prime.
If you want a car that drivers itself, with 8 outward cameras keeping your family safe, then among these two, there is one that will do this. This same one also is way faster when you need this, and well, you do you... I do me.
It would be a great improvement if Vion added magnets to their sunroof shade, similar to what we see in newer models. This simple addition would make the shade easier to remove when needed, addressing a key concern for users seeking convenience. While the current Vion shade is effective at reducing heat, its lack of easy removability is a drawback. I believe this enhancement would significantly improve the overall user experience
The Toyota is too basic and plain looking for me. You are great at selling. I reviewed a tons of Tesla accessories as well and have discount codes but I am not a good salesman haha great video!
Nice video and comparison. The other issue is the Rav4 will be out of date in a year or less where as the Tesla will be updated for the life of the vehicle. Keep up the good reviews!!!
Both are outstanding vehicles imo, but they can be very different in daily uses... I have owned two prior body style Rav4's and they were solid...We also have a Venza Limited which is a Rav4 on comfort steroids. For me the Model Y is the one to own. It is simply amazing in every aspect. Best vehicle I have ever owned.
We have both cars. A Prime (which you should have compared, not the wilderness edition) and a Y Technology Rav 4 Feels like the 2000s want their infotainment system back Tesla being a software company is top notch Also the stats on power used and efficiency is absolutely terrible on the prime. You could tell the Prime model and the electrification of the model was definitely secondary or an afterthought. The Toyota app is worthless and I removed it from my phone the same day I bought the car. The Tesla app is amazing and works well. Fit and Finish You would think that a Rav 4 made in Japan would easily beat the Tesla. Nope, I have had to take my Rav 4 in multiple times for vibrations in the steering wheel and the front dash. The dealer has mostly fixed the issues but should you really have to take a 52k car to fix vibrations multiple times and days? I have never had an issue with the Tesla. Autodrive. I don't use the term FSD because it's a joke. I absolutely hate how the Tesla will ghost brake for no apparent reason when on normal cruise. I would never trust FSD with my life or my fellow motorist. The assisted drive on the Tesla is great in perfect conditions. The Toyota system was so bad I turned it off the first day I had the car. Drive The drive with the Tesla is more harsh. I will likely get aftermarket R18s instead of the 20s that came with the car in the future. Winter Driving I really dislike how you cannot take the aggressive regen off in the new model Y's. Even with snow tires if you let off the accelerator too quickly you get that sliding feeling. I haven't had an opportunity to drive the Toyota yet in the snow. Range: The range with Tesla is an issue. The so called 330 miles isn't even close. Especially driving in Colorado Mountains with snow tires when it's -10 outside. This is the only reason I have a prime and not two Model Ys.
I want a vehicle that doesn't burn through oil and brake pads, doesn't have an unholy mess of high level maintenance under the hood and an expensive - and easy to steal - catalytic converter. ICE vehicles are dead.

I bought the Model Y. No regrets!
Me too, also the y was cheaper than the rav 4 prime, had a few long trips over 3k miles and no issues with the y,
Gas tank on wheels is done! 😂😂😂😂
With the Tesla app you can make fart sounds. RAV4 can’t do that now, never will.

To push a fucking Rav 4?

I’ve seen you in person, you’re 5’11” on a good day, bruh! 😂😂😂
Who cares

I was driving a Rav4 hybrid before I got my seven seater Modal Y three years ago. It is a no brainer only if you have your own place to charge.

They’re both due for a redesign / Refresh soon. I’d wait until then.
I have 2024 rav4 hybrid as my company vehicle, and I love it.

An Antique, or The Future.
long term... RAV 4... they hold their value better imo... if not then MODEL Y 100% Im excited for the new Model Y "Juniper"
Long term? They are both worth crap when you get rid of em
What model year was this Tesla I forgot if he said?
So once you really learn the Tesla software the engineers make some changes to it.
Had more squeaks and groans in my rav4 then any new car ive owned
The RAV4 will still be on the road in 20 years while the Tesla will most likely be in the junkyard in 10.
I doubt that. There are already old high mileage Teslas on the road. Doesn’t mean other cars are great or better. Just don’t be a hater.
Doubtful. They'll be the same more than likely but time will tell

Tesla hands down. If you disagree then you are uninformed or being misled.
