      @@zerotolerance5581 Eh maybe there is dark things going on but you have to look at the culture. American companies are obviously getting up to stuff behind peoples backs because they only care about profit. This is a fact and unsurprising what would be a surprising is a decent American company that cares about its community.
      In most Japanese companies outside of Sony they care about profits and craft to a degree. Heck the first release of final fantasy 14 was a disaster and it took them a long time to not only fix the issues, but they outright publicly apologized about it. Blizzard never apologizes for things unless its a rehearsed statement. They stuck with an initially failing game and built it from scratch and continue to try and fix it. The same could be said for other games that they have fumbled on. And the culture is very dedicated to their people, the other day a person wanted to censor anime to try and make it more appealing to western audiences for money, and he got lambasted so hard that he took a pay cut and made a formal apology.
      While I understand that square enix has a policy of being too ambitious and having issues releasing finished products they do make up for it with dedication and commitment. Which by all means is a commodity in the current gaming market. In that respect to see them in a better light than blizzard is easy.

    I honestly think that the real reason that FF would win in the: No strings attached which would you play scenario is that when you ask a wow player how much of the content is relevant or even reasonably doable, they would say latest content only, meaning 90% or more of the games content is meaningless, whilst In FFXIV, you still progress through the entire story just like everyone else and there are reasons for you to do old content, and you can even experience all of it at a satisfyingly difficult level where you can even play it to similar levels to what you would have when it just released without needing to specifically limit yourself or set yourself up for it. In the end, not that many people are really that interested in playing a game where getting the best gear is always the endgoal and where the game itself loves to make that as excruciatingly difficult as possible.

      @@demonsluger Yeah that killed the game for me too. It became more like a job, with weekly and daily responsibilities. A bigger factor however was how they removed all the fun and rpg elements from the game. They got rid of the talent point system. They got rid of interractions for dungeons and made everything automatic. They got rid of the pve progression by giving you the raid content in a joke format through LFR, so you didn't feel good clearing it in normal raids anymore. The harder raids were also silly that they existed... just give us new content instead of the same content on a harder format. They made looting an item a chore with all the gems, enchants and transmog requirements. The loot itself became trash and it either looked like a recolored copy of another item, or it was the copy of an older item. Even stats on items became boring, following the same format rather than being unique and fun.
      PVP became pretty trash too. They stopped balancing the game. They came up with their new excuse "we are balancing the game for 3v3 now", which is short for "we don't care about class balance". Even if you're a multi-gladiator with the best gear, you can still lose to a random noob because he has the right class.
      In general they were saving money from all sides. Instead of making 2 dungeons and making 1 harder than the other, they released the same dungeon twice on easy and hard. I call that lazy. Releasing the same item multiple times with recolors is lazy. Trying to addict players with weekly responsibilities instead of good content is lazy. Not balancing classes for PVP is lazy. Making all classes over-powered rather than finely balanced is lazy. They removed mechanics that used to be fun, like the 5 second rule and threat. They even made all the classes feel like playing the same class... They used to be unique, special... anyway :P I could complain about wow for 50 pages

    • @Silentloler436
      @Silentloler436 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @twizzm oh they did way more to remove uniqueness from classes. They gave all classes; healing, aoe, stun, cc, dots, movement abilities, infinite mana, removed threat as an issue.
      They also made classes identical. If you healed as priest or druid the differences were basically only the spell names and effect duration/cooldown. They all had slow heals, long heals, smart heals, aoe heals, healing over time, healing cooldowns…
      Anyway… they ruined the game in more ways than just talents, but talents was definitely one of the biggest mistakes they ever made.

In other MMOs, that doesn't happen. People will ever only play the newest content, so your options are to skip everything and go straight into the newest content, or start playing with a group of friends, to be able to do the old content together. And in FFXIV case, where to be able to progress you actually have to go through a lot of mandatory dungeons, if there aren't always a consistent wave of new players coming, you would be locked out of progression. Everything in life has good and bad sides, nothing is perfect, and the goal is to aways choose the option with more good than bad. And this is it.

    You’re right, all the FF games are disconnected. They share similar naming conventions (spell names, summon names, Gil etc). XIV is a sort of celebration of FF as a whole, taking a lot of concepts and names from past games and using them in their setting (like materia from 7, the raid based on Tactics/12). In that respect if people are looking to get into FF, 14 is one of the best representations of what the series can be.

    On the question between WoW and FF if they released today, I think something to take into account is that while they're both based on existing ip, Final Fantasy is a brand that today has relevance while Warcraft hasn't been a relevant name (outside of the mmo) since before WoW's release. My little brother was born in 1999 and plays shooters and sports games on console. He still knows what Final Fantasy is. If WoW was only releasing today, he would have no idea what Warcraft is.

      He went out of his way to buy pretty much all Final Fantasy titles on Steam and is having a blast.
      Final Fantasy in terms of an RPG brand is untouchable, no other game series comes even close to its recognition over *generations* of people.

    I just started playing FF14 and I think the important part is that while leveling, most of the content in ARR and the first expansion is still relevant. I see the whole story, do dungeons, trials and raids in those parts of the game. WoW consistently throws it's old content and systems away

    • @simonsalgueiro6217
      @simonsalgueiro6217 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cause people didn't want to do that content anymore. People keep ignoring what people have been asking through the ages. WoW has slowly adapted to the demands of people. FF, on the other hand, is now getting all these players, who see everything as new content. And still, it has super repetitive questing, like, vanilla WoW level of questing and small as heck zones with constant transitions, which could prove a problem in the long run for players once they also start egtting fed of the levelling path. Untill FF has been out over 10 years (and I mean FF 2.0, after the huge update which, btw, was based on WoW, as the devs admitted. Not the pre update FF, which was utter asian MMO garbage) we will really never know if the formula worked. WoW has been there for 17 as leader, of course people are fed of it.

    I started back in very late TBC and played through WotLK. What a ride it has been!
    First, I rolled a Druid. At level 70 I was so embarrassed by the fact that I have no idea how to play it, that I switched faction and class and found myself playing Shadow Priest. Most people I met while trying to join a vanilla dungeon group as DPS laughed at me and told me to go back to healing. I believe that the last dungeon I healed was one of the first in Hellfire Peninsula.
    The game was fascinating, yet I played mostly solo or doing some obscure old content like getting Benediction/Anathema. When WotLK came out, I really wanted to progress in raids, yet my semi-social guild was doing only Naxx10, even when Ulduar came out. I was frustrated and started doing pugs, and met another Shadow Priest who taught me some things about the spec. And then I was prepared to move to the second best guild on the server (the best was another faction).
    We did well for majority of raiding content, yet some of the tougher heroic encounters on 25 man proved to be hard. We did not even bother with heroic Lich King, as people struggled on normal for so long, that it took us around a month to down him for the first time.
    For me it was a great journey from actual zero to hero (I got into top-40 on World of Logs or whatever it was called), and I completely lost interest in game days before Cataclysm released. Since then I could not force myself into playing retail WoW. I have tried playing it numerous times on Starter account, but it felt like a rush to get to the end-game with leveling being just a nuisance and not a chance to experience the game. The mechanics have changed a lot since 2010, the game does feel different than what I used to know and love and it is impossible for me to play it. I rather play Vanilla on a private server.

      I was really hoping after Legion we would have a system where we make our own artifact weapon. Not like making Legendaries in Shadowlands but full on customization of the looks and everything. You could choose it to be for any spec and use any weapon your class can equip. You name it, and find different schematics and plans in the world. So like if you have a sword you could find a different blade or cross guard or hilt, make it double bladed, etc. You could also name your own weapon, etc. It would be a big system but I think it could be so fun if done well.

If I want to do some repeatable dailies not only do I have the area I can do repeatable leves, I have like 3-5 different areas where I can match my level and do them as much as I want and not be held back by a daily requirement or overall number.
    I’m digging FFXIV so much this time around. I played after they did RR and only stuck around to like lvl24 and now I’m blasting through 50 on my pally and I’m looking forward to even better content as it’s known that it gets better from here.

    Back when I was playing WoW regularly still, during mop, I already knew that if/when my raiding guild died there was nothing else keeping me playing. My entire gameplay was either raiding directly, or working towards raiding. Compared to FFXIV where I've never become a serious raider, but I keep playing because I get joy out of so many different areas. People get lost in XIV in glamour, crafting/gathering, just playing the story, music performance, housing, the gold saucer, raiding, yes even pvp, or any combination of random stuff they've found. I hardly ever hear talk of anything in wow anymore beyond raiding and pvp and maybe mythic+. The few times over the years I've tried to log back into wow I just really haven't found a simple fun thing to draw me back in.

  • @ecMonify

    i've asked myself that question at the end for years. my answer has always been: if wow didn't exist and released today, it would flop completely. it has nothing new that no other game has, no innovation. the artstyle is horrible and the animations absolutely terrible. all new systems currently in wow are taken from other popular games over the last decade. wow used to be the game other mmos copied, but for the last ten years it's been the exact opposite. seriously, put ffxiv and wow side by side; virtually every system that both games share, ffxiv does it much, much better. also, the blizzard devs show absolutely zero interest in what the community wants, while the devs at ffxiv constantly listen to the community. wow used to be an amazing game, but that game is long, long gone. if the game released today, without the success it had when it came out in 2005, it wouldn't last longer than any other new mmo.

    • @legendaryhumper
      @legendaryhumper 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The question that you have been asking yourself is really stupid because it's like saying if diablo was released today, it would've been shit and wouldn't have gotten the success it had, that's just plain stupid to even ask the question in the first place. There is a reason why the animation is outdated, it's because it is released in 2005, not 2021 or otherwise, it would've looked better. FFXIV was released in 2010, so obviously it has better animation and artstyle.

    I finally reached the end point of the toxic relationship that this video talks about recently. Blizzard have treated melee and dual-wielders far too badly since around the Legion/BfA time period and my main is a Rogue. I'm an incredibly patient person but I've finally hit my limit and it's happened around the time of the great exodus to FF14 which is a game I've already been playing for several years so the choice of where to spend my time is easy. You KNOW it's bad when someone like me who's both very patient and been playing since '05 finally calls it quits. Me quitting might mean nothing overall to Blizzard but at least I can say it's been earned from a karmic perspective after years of abuse.

    • @jayr7613
      @jayr7613 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Abuse? Come on......you can't appease everyone in the world.....it wasn't abuse. You describe it as if you were married to blizzard and then they physically beat you each day you were home. That's abuse. When in reality it was a self indulged wedlock where you didn't like the color of the carpet in the house, but you went home everyday anyways. Your choice to play it when you didn't like it. That's on you. But don't claim you're being "abused"
