"they know that people are not interested in their interest, so they don't say much" exactly, I can speak few words now and then to keep the conversation the other person is trying to maintain.
Is like we have a different category of conversations for different kind of people, we kinda put everyone in a different group:
    Superficial person
Superficial with some different interests person
    Specific subject oriented person
    Deep insights but emotional person
    Deep insights and logical person
"Holly sh*t, this person thinks of all this and have an awesome unique view in this that I never pondered about" person
And so we adapt for each one of the conversations, the last happens once in a blue moon .

Exactly that! We learn how to respond to people and just blend in depending on different people. It would be so great to meet more INTPS in real life 😄

@@BenjaminSpicy it would, but it's exactly how you said it, both are just quiet analyzing the conversation, so maybe watching for the quiet ones in a group, not the ones not paying attention, but the ones paying attention with a "ah, interesting..." face

Nah, i only talk to people if i want something i have actively tried to acquired, but havent been able to.
I will read, learn and contact technical support long before i need to talk people.
I learned plumbing, basic wiring and french, in my quest to avoid talking to people.
No i dont hate people, not for lack of trying, i just lack the capacity. I dont trust you, i dont need hate to doubt 'X'
My line of questioning is methodical and brusque, so i dont talk; that isnt because im shy, this is a mercy.
My kryptonite, strong feelers. I just cant. Dont make me, i will use the emergency exit, figuratively and literally.
With a mild allergy to sensors, you are wrong, dont tell me, just accept it and stop speaking.

Wow, I can be a klutz in an unexpected, unprepared conversation. Awkward and miss the topic altogether, just lost. But certain topics turn me into the Nutty Professor completely breaking down my dissertation, slowing it down so my audience really grasp’s a general but in-depth understanding of something so simple but yet hard to see below the surface. And as I orchestrated and facilitate the conversation by asking a quick question to involve them drawing them in as I’m coming to my conclusions… I notice the look on there faces, eyes and mouth’s wide open like WTF. Where did that come from? I had know ideal you knew so much about blah blah blah. Then a looong pause and a change of topic on there end.
I do have my moments where I surprise myself, in complete flow, taking total control. Not with force but almost as if I was possessed. And as soon as my conscious mind comes back around I loose train of thought with how could I have said it better? Oh I should have told them??? To late…
So its like the pattern I continually see throughout my existence. When the heard goes left I most always go right.

Very accurate analysis of the Intp communication style. I have no problem socialising but simply prefer not to as it takes up my valuable time and energy. Other than that, whenever I open my mouth at home about some random idea, all my siblings will shoot me down saying I have impractical and abnormal way of looking at things. Only my Entp and Entj family members can relate to me but they are working in another state. So I don't have anyone to talk to, not that I mind. Then I found Reddit and Quora where I am every night..

I'm INTP, and though I don't want to upset anybody, I don't care if they don't like what I say. I may try to clarify myself if I think they misunderstand and if it matters. Or I may say it's okay to disagree. If I think it matters to say so.

I can't highlight enough one little tidbit here. INTPs when working for themselves will procrastinate and delay. However, once they are working for someone else and understand that someone else is counting on them, they will put in the effort to make sure that it gets done and gets done well.
Their own rooms: absolute disaster of a mess because it doesn't matter. As long as they know roughly what is where, it's fine.
When they organize other people's rooms: a meticulously clean room with a complex yet easy to understand organizational layout, because, well, they want to do their best.

    • @FroschBube

I love working for myself and endlessly, it's what drives me - hyperfocus.
Everything else is an annoyance and distraction in that situation.
But other people's rules, impositions and deadlines? Not happening, I want unalive, it's soul-crushing, like torture.
I will only do that job perfectly if I actively decided to say yes and I respect the person for some reason.
But my room? Yeah, it's a hoarders mess. Haha

I make the exact same muscle movements like a machine when I brush my teeth and shower. Hygienically doing the most perfect job, in the correct order with no wasted movement in perfect efficiency. The only difference is whether I'm rushing or not, in which case if I'm not, I'll lounge in the hot water thinking until the hot starts to run out.

I used to like an INTP so much but also messed it up a big time.
Didn't know MBTI personality at the time. He was just like a robot taking in the input but never talked about what he was thinking. Unluckily, I was the same. We both were just mirroring each other and having meaningless back and forth small talks.
The interaction went nowhere. We both think each other were boring. Didn't manage to have any deep conversations or connections, either. Definitely learned a huge lesson from it.

I mostly use it in (rare) social occassions (like first impressions) to single out individiuals that I would possibly like to talk to and which ones to certainly avoid, since I really can't connect to "short-sighted" normies and never could.
This way I maximize my chances to meet someone who I view worthy of interaction and who has something meaningful to say or discuss or who is just pleasent to be around, to not waste my precious low-capacity social battery.
I also tend to seek out the quieter, less crowded places and get to know someone better. I sometimes also say (borderline) edgy things to test the reaction and see if I should continue even further.
My closest friends were and still are considered "outsiders" by societal standards, but still have above-average knowledge / skills / interests / thinking patterns, despite most of them also having mental disorders / syndromes (like me). There is always a topic to talk / philosophize / joke about. Our humour is also very self-ironic, insulting, critical and extreme and basically no topic is off the table, no "normal" person could bare that without getting deeply offended at some point in time. 😂 They are also INxx-types.
I tend to really take interest in someone if I notice they have certain specialties about them and / or appear to be quiet / thoughtful, or they share certain interests / behaviors / opinions / traits with me.
I imagine when it comes to doing business or more serious interactions / decision making, a more thorough evaluation is needed, including the way they carry themselves, the things they say, how genuine they come across, what others say about them, how they dress, how capable and knowledgeable they are, prior experiences, if they are compatible to you, etc.
But a reasoned and instinctual first impression based on the factors named prior has become a really reliable tool for me and so far never disappointed.

Idk whats chameleon actually mean, but i got an instinct that would be similar to a spy doesn't it? Because my friend, maybe he is an ENTP, he tolds me that you're suitable to be a spy, because there's no people that know your truly purpose/truly meaning of your act. It is something like that, like we are playing dumb, but in the inside we knows a lot. That's what my friend describes me, idk if you too feel the same way.

I disagree with patronising statements as "INTPs don't understand what they feel”, we know what we feel, we just don’t know how to handle these emotions in a proper way, so they get bottled up until they are too much and they might get explosive. Not showing emotions and not feeling them is not the same.
As for awareness of feeling space, I have a guess about why people even do those annoying small talks. When we don’t have information we can work with, it’s hard to find subjects to talk about. What people do during the small talk about the weather or weekend plans is they seem to “palpate” the emotional vibe in the room, as they are saying “I’m okay around you, we’re cool, everything is chill, the vibe is good, etc.”. But for us it’s meaningless what’s the vibe is and if the conversation is not intellectually stimulating, we can either do the small talk ritual or stare silently at the wall with the same results. And since talking about nothing important takes more effort, the wall usually wins.
