This is an internal move to a different department. I start on Monday February 7th. My new Manager commented that he liked how I quantified the results in my resume. The recruiter told me I wasn't supposed to get an increase but they liked me so much, both recruiters pushed for a 5% increase which all the Managers agreed on. Thank you professor for sharing so many great details I have not resubmitted my résumé in over 14 years so this really helped me to gain insight on what is needed and how things have changed.
I can attest to the content of this video and the important points, it's pretty spot on. The one thing that other "resume tips" seems to get the wrong idea is the point that you need to create a "good looking" resume from a design perspective. And as someone who has been working as a HR lead, recruiter and Project Manager for the past 10 years and I have taken care of well over 100 resumes personally and oversees over 5000 applicants over my entire career on multiple different companies is to tell you how wrong this is. I can assure you, unless you're applying for a designer/artist position, no HR will ever give a single crap about the design of your resume. Quite infact, a "pretty" looking resume gives out red flags if you don't do the contents properly, because if that's the case it may further emphasizes that you don't have anything to offer in relation to the job so you had to "compensate" it with pretty designs. And as Heather mentioned, your employment, career and skills summary in a paragraph or two on the header is about the single most important thing you can put on your summary, bar none. No HR will ever read everything everytime when we have dozens or hundreds of resumes on our desk or email. We look at the header and short list it. And we read the whole thing LATER. Also, yes, quantify, summarize and describe the results of your experiences and achievements. Be confident, and list EVERYTHING that you deem appropriate to put on a resume. Have designed a website for your gaming community? write that down, been a reddit moderator with 100k+ members? write that down. It matters. A lot of people seems to think non-professional experiences don't matter for job applications. They are WRONG. I don't know you, the HR people don't know you, these small bits of achivements goes a long way of letting us know you more. And be confident, no company will ever hire someone who does not believe in themselves.

How do you get this to reflect when job postings want you to fill out an application through their own user interface that does not allow a resume to be sent?
I’m about to apply to a temp agency for office work, I’ve never worked in office space before. So what would I use for a general resume? Since I don’t even know what position I would be applying for.

Hello, alot of the time I hear that employers highly encourage if not require a resume that is ONE page. The template + info in the video make it so that it is at least 2 pages if not more with everything that is said. How should I go about making it one page and know what things to keep?
Thank you for all the great information you provide in your videos. I had used all your tips on my resume and cover letter to great results. Applied to 5 companies with 4 responses and landing in a position that was my first choice.

What if you are not a manager in, let's say, Customer Service but have been in the field for a short time. Or what if you've had dealings with customers for 20+ years but, in different jobs? How do you list your 3 key skills and what are the proper words for the career objective sentences? I wouldn't want to use the wrong buzzwords, fluff, or cliches.
Thanks for this video, Heather. Very good content. Ideas for future videos include: thoughts on the value of online portfolios, how to find contract-only positions/agencies hiring for corporations
So every time I apply to a job you think I should adjust my resume? And how do you suppose I should be able to keep track of what was said to nearly 1000 plus companies I apply to? This is preposterous information.
Worst part of writing a resume is trying to remember what I have been doing the last 10 years. Moving from task to task to project to task after completion mostly resulted in forgetting the good result..
Some great advice no doubt, but there were also some confusingly contradictory points that made me less confident than I was going into the video. For example, how are we supposed to make it customizable but also use your template and then avoid charts and tables when that's basically what a resume is. I don't know, I'll just make it good and hopefully I'll be fine. I'm mostly going to just take the good parts and use the template but in my own way? Great organization advise for formatting and stuff.
Worked in law enforcement for 15+ years. Struggling with what to actually put on the resume in order to appeal to the company. My interest is gearing more towards social justice, mental health etc.
Thanks for the info. Can you tell whether we should match the resume with a complete job posting, including about the organization, job duties, responsibilities, skills, benefits, etc.? or just responsibilities and skills enough?
This video is a goldmine for teachers who are looking to switch careers. Your tips on avoiding these mistakes are invaluable. I'll be sharing this with my fellow educator friends who are considering a change.
Where would the pt work and freelance work go in the resume? I had one independent contracting job that I fell back on during moves and layoffs. It's unrelated to my primary profession, and often times I feel if I include it, it throws off my chances, but if I don't, it can get thrown off during an interview. Please let me know what your thoughts are.
Great question! Whether to include your part-time or freelance work in your resume will depend on how relevant it is to the position you're applying for. If the work is directly related, include it under the "Work Experience" section. If it's not directly related, include it under "Additional Experience" or a similar section. Be sure to present the information in a way that highlights your relevant experience and qualifications for the job. Hope this helps!
I totally agree with including all this great stuff in a resume to sell yourself to employers. The question is HOW DO YOU FIT THAT ALL ON ONE PAGE LEGIBLY.
Hi there! When including your career record on your resume, focus on highlighting your relevant training and qualifications from the cabin crew training school you recently completed. Mention any certifications or licenses you are in the process of obtaining. Additionally, showcase any previous work experience or transferable skills that are relevant to the cabin crew role, such as customer service, communication, problem-solving, or teamwork skills. Tailor your resume to the specific job you are applying for and emphasize the skills and qualifications that align with the requirements of the cabin crew position. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.
Thank you so much professor Heather for your detailed explanation. I will go ahead and reformat my resume using yours. I am afraid I am not getting good results due to the length of my resume.
I hopped around job to job a bit lately. What your suggestion please? Should I leave some of the jobs out and only leave one that relevant to the position I am applying for? 😓
Thanks a lot for this video. It's been almost 2 decades since I looked at updating my resume. This video was exactly what I needed. And the free template exceeded my expectations. Your efforts here made this process fairly simple for a guy like me.
awesome video! Just a question about the title in the resume. What if you're making a career switch and applying for jobs that you don't have direct experience in but do have transerrable skills. for example, if I'm appyling for a project manager position but have never held that title, is it still okay to put Project Manager as my title in the resume when applying?
Hi! Once you confirm your email address, the template should be deliver straight to your inbox. If it's not delivered, email me at heather@professoraustin.com!
Hi, Professor Austin. I am improving my CV with the template. May I ask if it means I can just skip some of my past experience and only keep the most recent experience?
Absolutely, consider highlighting your accomplishments and quantifying your impact in your previous roles. Tailor your resume for remote work by emphasizing skills like self-motivation, communication, and familiarity with remote tools. Research each company and customize your application to match their needs. Best of luck in your search!
Hi, what about applying to multiple jobs in the same organization. They all fall into my skill set, passion and abilities. How do you think the employer would view this situation, seeing multiple resumes from the same person? Also how should I go about working around that?
I am looking to get into the IT/Tech field with little to no experience in that field. I do currently work for a tech company but my current job is more customer service based. Before that position I did hardware repair on some video video equipment. I feel like that would be laughed at. I am about to start taking some IT certifications thought but that could be an1-2 years from now before i have several of those. Man, this is stressing me out. Awesome video though Heather!
Its just an awe-inspiring career kick-start, I would say! Thanks Ma'am, I am definitely gonna apply this strategy rn. I can't hold my caree r back now 🙌🎉💗
Hi Nubi! Absolutely. The template is free and will be delivered to your inbox. Email me at heather@professoraustin.com if you don't receive it shortly. Thanks!
Absolutely! List the company name first, then each role underneath in reverse chronological order, with dates and key achievements for each position. This showcases your progression and highlights your accomplishments at each level. Best of luck! 🌟
I received the template, thank you!... The only issue I wished it came on 1 page. I often found 2 or more pages are not gd. will try it and see how it goes.
Awesome! So glad you got it. You can remove most of the sections to make it a one page resume. You for sure need a summary, a work experience section, and education section and a technical skills section. That should fit on one page. How much experience do you have?
@@ProfessorHeatherAustin i have plenty of experience to fill 2 pages. But I limit to 1 bc I heard hr dnt like reading multiple pages. I did keep the skills which was on the 2 page. Hello I am new to your channel I'm reaching out because I'm in the process of transitioning from a career in medicine, where I've been a Physician Assistant for over two decades. My work experience has been primarily in healthcare, and I'm now looking to pivot into a different field. I've recently tried applying for case manager positions, but unfortunately, I haven't had much luck in securing employment in this new direction. I would greatly appreciate any information, advice, or guidance you could offer to help me with this career transition.❤😊 Thank you

I owned a very business for about 25 years. It folded in 2020. Should I reveal that I was the business owner or should i treat it as if I worked there .. .since I need to work for someone else.
Hi there! I'm sorry to hear about your business in 2020. When discussing your past experience, it's okay to mention that you were the owner. Being a business owner for 25 years means you've accumulated a wealth of skills and knowledge. Employers can view this as a testament to your leadership, resilience, and versatility. Just be prepared to articulate the transferrable skills you've gained and how they can benefit your potential new employer. Whether you frame it as being an owner or as someone who worked there, the key is to emphasize the value you can bring to a new role based on your extensive experience. Hope this helps!
Thank you kind Heather. Your reply is much more than expected..I switched to your template and the "less is more" text approach. I have over 100 resumes floating 8 hours a day for 3 months. one interview. It's tough out here ma'am
Hi Professor Heather Austin, I have 20+ plus yrs experience as a Medical Claims Specialist. I'm looking to transition into a Credentialing Specialist or HR Specialist role. Also, I will be re-enrolling into school to finish my Bachelor of Science degree in Health Administration. Any tips for transitioning into a different career is appreciated.
Congratulations on your many years of experience as a Medical Claims Specialist, it's great that you're looking to transition into a different career path. Here are a few tips to help you transition into a Credentialing Specialist or HR Specialist role: 1) Highlight transferable skills in your resume and cover letter. 2) Network and make connections in the field. 3)Get additional education or certifications. 4) Volunteer or intern to gain relevant experience. 5) Be open to starting at an entry-level position and working your way up. Remember that transitioning into a new career takes time and effort but it's worth it. Good luck!

I’m about to apply to a temp agency for office work, I’ve never worked in office space before. So what would I use for a general resume? Since I don’t even know what position I would be applying for.
Thank you so much for the resume template and awesome video! I used your template and it got me a few interviews so far! It’s been a month since I began my job search since finishing college :)
Hey! Thank you for watching the videos. I’m so glad you were able to get some interviews. Hope your able to get that dream job! 👍
Followed your advice, and 5 out of 7 jobs that I applied for reached out! Thank you 🙏 I have four upcoming interviews!😁
Wow! Awesome. Thanks for sharing. Good luck in your interviews. Would you mind if I share your success with others? If so, do you have a headshot you could send me at heather@professoraustin.com
This level of energy is exhausting and I'm only half way through the video.
Was waiting for the this template eagerly Austin mam. Glad 😊 please do bring more templates for every year. ❤ love to be a part of this channel In this pandemic you are the best teacher. Where many lost their jobs at last depending on skills matters more than degree. 😇
Hello! So happy to hear you grabbed the new template. A lot has changed in the job market in the past few years. My team and I are constantly evaluating the market and trying to help job seekers stay on top. Thanks for watching!
My dream job is being a sole legal counsel and multifamily investor, this resume template is amazing! You are truly changing lives, the positivity is amazing! TY PROFESSOR HEATHER!
You're so welcome! I'm so happy you found the video useful. Thanks for watching.
@@ProfessorHeatherAustin TY AGAIN🤗🤗🤗
Hello, alot of the time I hear that employers highly encourage if not require a resume that is ONE page. The template + info in the video make it so that it is at least 2 pages if not more with everything that is said. How should I go about making it one page and know what things to keep?
Thank you for all the great information you provide in your videos. I had used all your tips on my resume and cover letter to great results. Applied to 5 companies with 4 responses and landing in a position that was my first choice.
THATS AWESOME! Congratulations!
Just downloaded my free template and it looks great! Can't wait to begin using it to upgrade my current resume.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have an adblocker, it is possible that you will not receive the email for the free template. This is not a broken link, but it will seem that nothing happens when you click the link. You simply must deactivate your adblocker in this instance. Tried the link several times myself before I realized what the problem was. 🤔🤦🏽♀️
Good luck everyone! 👍🏽💯
And now you are tracked and get ads
What if you are not a manager in, let's say, Customer Service but have been in the field for a short time. Or what if you've had dealings with customers for 20+ years but, in different jobs? How do you list your 3 key skills and what are the proper words for the career objective sentences? I wouldn't want to use the wrong buzzwords, fluff, or cliches.
Focus on your projects and accomplishments and the impact you made on customers.
Thanks for this video, Heather. Very good content. Ideas for future videos include: thoughts on the value of online portfolios, how to find contract-only positions/agencies hiring for corporations
Awesome! I love your ideas for future videos. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Evan! Thanks for watching. You'll do great with the template. Definitely use it and make it your own. Keep me posted with how things go. :)
@@ProfessorHeatherAustin thanks Professor. 。◕‿‿◕。
Worked in law enforcement for 15+ years. Struggling with what to actually put on the resume in order to appeal to the company. My interest is gearing more towards social justice, mental health etc.
Wow! Such a smart lady! This is everything that I needed today. Beautifull.
Wow, thank you!
Thanks for the info. Can you tell whether we should match the resume with a complete job posting, including about the organization, job duties, responsibilities, skills, benefits, etc.? or just responsibilities and skills enough?
Thanks for sharing this knowledge and providing the template!
Glad it was helpful!
This video is a goldmine for teachers who are looking to switch careers. Your tips on avoiding these mistakes are invaluable. I'll be sharing this with my fellow educator friends who are considering a change.
I really enjoyed your video and will be using your guidelines to update and improve my resume. Thank-you.
Professor Austin, thank you for this information I took some notes down very helpful,
You’re very welcome!
Wish I had watched these tips sooner. These are gold.
Thanks for watching!
What a relief I found your website. Thank you.
You're welcome!
I totally agree with including all this great stuff in a resume to sell yourself to employers.
The question is HOW DO YOU FIT THAT ALL ON ONE PAGE LEGIBLY.
Foreal!
Excellent information and guidance. I'll be honest with you, watching your videos has opened up my eyes in a huge way. Thank you, thank you thank you.
Awesome! I'm so happy to hear this. Thanks for watching.
Hi , please how can I include my career record in the resume? I just finished from a cabin crew training school but licence not out yet.
Thanks
Keep it to no longer than two pages, and use the template for help I’m sure you’ll do great! 👍
@@ProfessorHeatherAustin already done and republished on LinkedIn.Appreciated again!!!!
Where do you put certifications and what other fonts can you use?
Hi Jeron! Great question. Certifications can go right after eduction and training. I really like Cambria right now. 10 - 12 pt.
I hopped around job to job a bit lately. What your suggestion please? Should I leave some of the jobs out and only leave one that relevant to the position I am applying for? 😓
Yes, I like that idea.
I would
Professor Austin I tried getting the template but it requires I subscribe for the full job search package. How can I get the template?
Hi! Once you confirm your email address, the template should be deliver straight to your inbox. If it's not delivered, email me at heather@professoraustin.com!
Can someone help me, step by step and walk me through this. It's really hard for me rn, idek how something like this would work.
Your video was from so much help!!! and also your energy was amazing :)
Hey thanks!
Do you recommend using display pic for resume/CV ?
Great question! No. Unless you live in a country that requires headshots on resumes.
Fab video! Thank you :)
Hi, Professor Austin. I am improving my CV with the template. May I ask if it means I can just skip some of my past experience and only keep the most recent experience?
Great question! Normally you don’t want to go back anywhere from 10 to 15 years.
What do you think about the resumes that have a picture vs without?
This video was so helpful!!!! Thank you so much.
Thank you for the template. I just used it for my dream role. Hoping 🙏 it all works out in my favor.
I hope so too! Thanks for sharing!
can you help me how can i shape it more i have more than 2 years of experience and looking for remote jobs but i am shooting just blanks.
Absolutely, consider highlighting your accomplishments and quantifying your impact in your previous roles. Tailor your resume for remote work by emphasizing skills like self-motivation, communication, and familiarity with remote tools. Research each company and customize your application to match their needs. Best of luck in your search!
This is AMAZING!! video. A big fan from Thailand
Awesome! Thank you!

Are Technical Skills the same as Professional Skills ? Should we put the two or justo one of them in the resume?
Great question. They are similar, but it depends on what else is included on your resume and long you want it to be.
Hi Professor Austin, the link for the free template and example resume is not working. Can you please send it again. Thank you.
Hi Nubi! Absolutely. The template is free and will be delivered to your inbox. Email me at heather@professoraustin.com if you don't receive it shortly. Thanks!
Any tips on how to list multiple positions for one company because of promotion?
Im trusting it will be fine. Ty so much for all the help. So many looking for work and have limited funds. You gave this out for free. You are blessing many♥️

I would greatly appreciate any information, advice, or guidance you could offer to help me with this career transition.❤😊 Thank you
Hello and welcome to my channel! Transitioning from a long-standing career can indeed be challenging, but it's absolutely possible. With your background as a Physician Assistant, you have a wealth of skills that can be valuable in many fields, including case management. It's all about positioning these skills in the right way. I recommend starting by tailoring your resume to highlight transferable skills from healthcare to case management. Consider skills like patient coordination, communication, and problem-solving, which are crucial in both fields. Also, my toolkit has resources and templates that might be beneficial for someone in your situation. It's designed to guide job seekers through career changes. Remember, networking is invaluable. Connect with professionals in the field you're aiming for, and gather insights about what they're looking for in candidates. Stay persistent and positive! Best wishes on your career transition! ❤😊

haha! Thanks for sharing Caleb.
quick question. Can I skip the volunteer & Award & membership section? Or is it really necessary to put it on my resume.
You can totally skip this section. What other sections do you have to add to your resume?
HOW do you quantify these things? Where do you get that data? How are you even supposed to know these things?
Hi Rebecca! Here's a link to a live stream I did where I do into detail about quantifying. This should really help: th-cam.com/video/t_U-8MlNZCs/w-d-xo.html
I have a lot of work experience in the past but I have not worked since 2014. And this is due to a long-term chronic illness that prevented me from doing simple things like walking around. But now I'm better so how can I create a resume with that in mind?

Do you have to have a cover letter and résumé or just the résumé?
Thanks for the great details
Hi there! Great question. Yes, we have a cover letter template with lots of samples inside the toolkit. Let me know if you'd like a special link to grab the toolkit. Thanks!
I'm using your template, but my resume is 2 or 3 pages long, even if I cut out unnecessary bullets while still listing job history to show consistency. Should I switch templates?
Was the zip file with the resume template a trojan key logger? It would have been easier for a google docs link. Thank you for creating this video!

Hi, please could you guide me on Fashion Design Resume? Really struggling with this at the moment 😭
Hi Heather, Do you help out with technical resumes?
She said there was a free template at the end. That was a lie just to get you to purchase something. Very unethical
Professor Austin, is having a profile picture necessary?
Great question. On LinkedIn, yes! Not on a resume. Hope that helps.
Good luck!

hey porfesser heather do you have clients with learning disorders
Austin, I like your content. I do have a question. Is it better to do bullet points in a resume or paragraph format? I can only apply to entry-level and like positions that don't require ATS just an application and resume to the hiring manager.
Great question Jessica! I like to use a combination of both. Paragraph in the career summary and bullet points in work experience section.
