I have writen winning resumes for others for years. However, writing my own has been a challenge with zero results. After watching your video, and studying your template, I went to work on my resume. Within a couple of hours, I submitted it to a company for which it was prepared. The automatic response thanked me for my submission; notifying me that I'd hear back in 3 weeks. The next day, I received an email requesting a telephone interview Monday morning.
    Thank you!!

I couldn't have found this at a better time. I've allowed my anxiety to hold me back for a long time, I constantly closed the door on myself, losing opportunities and potential jobs in the process. I went to a job fair today with a friend of mine. She was encouraging and supportive. I just couldn't seem to muster up the courage to talk to potential employers. I went home, dejected and doubtful. I printed out 15 copies of my resume today. And none were handed out due to my lack of confidence. However, my desire to strive for a better life can no longer be quelled by my inner thoughts and cognitive distortions. Thank you for posting this on TH-cam. I know I'll be more confident knowing I have the right tools and information on creating a spectacular resume.

I am 16 years old that lives in Switzerland where you start to work at 15 years old. I know this comment is a year old but I'm 37 and each time I haveta update my resume I DREAD it. It's almost as worse as moving, haha. But point here is that, NO ONE ever learns this...resumes, cover letters , etc. So being a teen vs adult is no different haha! Except, usually as a teen, the jobs are usually just "applications" you pick up or get online & fill out such from a restaurant or retail shop like Express and fill it in without a resume. But then one day, you go for your first entry level job, and have NO IDEA what to do or where to start with a resume.

One section I've added to my resume is Academic Research. I'm a recent college grad and have helped with professors' academic work (that is relevant to my career field) and it's something super interesting that many employers have said "that made you really stand out from our other applicants."

I honestly don't have much work experience. I've worked 12 years at a movie theater and for one year I've had two jobs (at the movie theater and at a kid's science museum, part time). When the kid's museum offered full-time employment, I took it and quit the theater job. So, in total, I have about 14 years of customer service experience. After my employment with the museum, I worked at a warehouse for almost a year. The first 6 months as a tool crib attendant and the other remaining months as a stacker/packer. I also volunteered at a Habitat for Humanity place performing basic data entry work: inputting people's names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. in their MS Access database and filing the customer info cards in their cabinets.

If you have 7 yrs experience using Excel and the employer wants 2 yrs experience using Google Sheets (Googles spreadsheet) software, then put in your resume 7yrs experience Excel similar to Google Sheets. This way you wont be eliminated in the ATS screening when they are looking for someone with Google Sheets experience. If you can work Excel you can work Google Sheets

This video is around a year old but I hope others see my comment!! I followed Heather's guidance in this video on writing and formatting my resume plus how to structure my LinkedIn; I received a job offer within 3 weeks. On top of some huge companies' recruiters reaching out to me on LinkedIn literally EVERYDAY! I cant thank you enough. You are appreciated.

One questions can I add this or post this on my linkedin?
    Thank you again.

Excellent, excellent advice! You are what I have been looking for Professor Austin! I have always strived to keep my resume to one page and your breakdown and explanation of sections will help me update and tailor my resume for today. Thank you so much for the section examples. It helps tremendously. I am surprised that an old fashioned text-based resume is still preferred over one that is more graphic in nature. I am a seasoned marketing and project management professional and thought that some mild graphic approach might help gain looks/attention. Guess I’ll stick with the text!

I like your channel and I have subscribed. Working on updating my resume (will retire from the military soon here). I like that you are "on-point" and that is what I need to re-write my resume. I have multiple experiences in hiring personnel as well (Nursing field) and fully aware of the ATS. Therefore just need some few pointers from your channel. Keep up the good work.

Make sure to avoid the "self ratings"! Many resume templates include these star ratings where you can self rate your skills. Recruiters hate these!

I’m new to this so I’m curious to know what are “self ratings”? Using the context I think I know what it is but not sure.

@@brittanybeason1252 Many resume templates have you to rate your skills. They usually have a diagram, scale, or colored stars and have you to put if you're 4/5 stars in social media marketing or something. Don't do this!

The "results driven and quantifiable" portion is how the USAF write statements for annual evaluations. We have been told in the past that no one in the civilian workplace would understand this format.
