I work as a bush pilot and I keep this in my flight bay, couldn’t hurt to have it the worst happens
62 hrc MagnaCut replacement blades for the whole #Leatherman collection. Without coating. MC doesn't stain from sweat. I've been carrying a MagnaCut White river M1 as a neck knife for over a year under shirt. Left it overnight in ballistol nerofor. Didn't even dull (much)
I've always liked most things about the signal,... but i cannot forgive a multitool not having scissors. If anyone from Leatherman is watching this, and by The Nick, they should be, please update the Signal and swap the can opener for scissors and slap on that sweet new Magnacut blade!
A R C
That's funny because although I like to have scissors id much rather the can opener as I could just use the knife to cut whatever I would use the scissors for in most cases.
Leatherman should do an “edc” version of the Arc, with no file or saw. If you’re doing farm work, consider dedicated pruners or shears (Knipex 140 mm shears are very lightweight).
in terms of survival its actually perfect. if they were to add scissors they should put it in place of the awl bcs no one uses it as an awl but just a small knife.
@@chrismiscellaneous do you use multitool can openers to open your cans of water sandwiches? I use the scissors on my EDC Curl second only to the pliers.
Great video as always Pete, always been tempted by the specialty leatherman tools but never pulled the trigger on them. I really like the color and hammer portion of this one though. Keep up the great work man!
I really like leathermans and want to need them, but I don't. When I had a job which sort of required me to do things like you do, small jobs that you need to adress there and then or you'll forget or simply cannot be bothered to go get a tool and go back, I had a Charge TTI with a fancy sheath, a bit kit, and an extender. I still changed that out to a knipex plier, screwdriver with exchangeable bits, and a knife that could be sacrificed (Mora). Almost the same weight and so much nicer to use.
In my urban life a four layer Victorinox can feel bulky in thr pocket so a Leatherman for sure wouldn't cut it for edc
Never noticed that it has the heavy duty pliers, anyway great video as always sir
I've had a Wave for over 15 years, rarely use it, though I do like the idea of a multitool. You're right about the can openers, I took it camping a few weeks ago, and found it was a pain in the a$$ to open a can of tuna. I like the old US military P-38 type can opener better. And yeah, no serrated main blade.
I’m a seperate serrated blade enjoyer. I keep a military can opener on my belt, much better than a multi tool opener.
Also, love the chickens at the end checking the MT out haha
The signal is my go to back yard tool. I don’t mind the half serrated blade as I use the knife to open up bags of feed, mulch etc and cut rope. Always nice to have the screwdriver so I don’t have to go back inside and the pliers for my fence
Thank you Pete yeah to many things that I wouldn't use on this multi tool
Nice honest review. 👍
I agree. I always thought the survival things silly, and a rock or branch make an adequate hammer. And I hate combo blades. But I got one at a big discount because the clip to keep it closed was gone. I just replaced it with a tiny Neodymium magnet, which will NOT get lost. But I much prefer my Wave Plus, or for something smaller my Juice CS4 or even the SOG PowerPint. The signal just lives in my survival kit with other things I hope never to need.
The signal always seemed like a cool idea to me but idk.
It just feels like a lesser wave. As like, why buy this over a wave or rebar when they have a ton more implements.
Love the color choices, love the carabiner.
Great video my man
Thank you sir, great presentation.
You call them Secateurs in Aus too eh? Neat
I agree that the Signal is great for farming. I work on a tree farm.
Great review, thank you.
In the past 40 yrs. things have changed. 80's Can opener was handy for oil cans. Bottle opener still needed. 90's Can opener still for oil cans, twist top bottles came along but often chipped. 2000's oil cans became plastic bottles. Bottles had better twist lids. Least used tool was and is the saw. One of my favorite plier multi tools is the Schrade/Vicegrip pliers needle nose (still had a useless saw). I've broken more Gerber multi tools on barbed wire than I care to count. One feature Leatherman used to have on the plier jaw was a crimp(about an 1/8" hole) now that was and would still be handy. Your not doing electrical, but the old tractors and vehicles on the farm and transport truck. Wiring harnesses and trailer lights always needed electrical done. Best update Leatherman could do is get rid of the bottle/can opener and replace the bit holder with a normal 1/4" bit holder and dump the saw on most models. Far as my usage, they could dump the scissors as well. Haven't used the scissors on a multi tool in a couple of decades. The eye glass screwdriver on a multi tools just drives me up the wall.
In the pinchiest of pinches!!!! I love it😂
Hahaha good one
For a tool "designed " for the outdoors, i dont know anyone that carrys one. The people i know run Waves, Surges, and Rebars. I understand its a small sample size but, i still find it amusing.
Great ending with the chickens!
you literally can’t get wrong with a wave of a rebar. I feel like at this point I dip into the others for novelty value alone. Always rec the wave and rebar first, then all the wacky ones
@@CedricAdaI have the wave and the rebar and both are great. I’m looking to get the signal for the weekends off. It looks like too much fun to pass up on getting
Good video, Pete. Sincerely, Pete.
Very nice, comprehensive, review. You touched on a lot of things others don't mention.
Aqours is my favorite school idol group and the signal aqua is my favorite large multi tool for traveling
I wish they offered this in a larger variety of high vis colors. I do like the aqua though
It needs good scissors, a better awl, and a good file. On the added good file, have the tip be a good pry tool. Throw in a pair of tweezers and a micro pen and keep it under 10 oz.
The saw is excellent. The knife is excellent.
ive just got the rebar back in, and the knife less one too, they are great
lol I like the fire emblem music around 8:45
Debating on which leatherman is good for me for EDC. I was gonna go for the skeletool, but the signal appears to have stronger tools no? Budget not being a factor, I really have no idea which leatherman to pick up LOL
Signal has heavy duty pliers and i like the "hammer". I don't have it for a long time yet but it fits into one front pocket (jeans) with my car/workkeys. Been doing some renovation lately and i didn't miss a tool besides maybe scissors. I thought i would miss a file but didn't need one yet.
I might look for a replacement option of the ferro/whistle but other than that i am pretty satisfied with the Signal.
@@dusty111thanks for ur input! I'm sold
You picked sawing, did you ? You're the man i wish i was, but for the australian part.
Now, that’s just alcohol abuse!!!! I thought you Aussies were better than that!!!!
Love the OPM tattoo.
I use can opener more than any other tool. Better to have a can opener than to use the blade to open cans in the post apocalypse.
You can literally scrape the top of the can flat on concrete back and forth for 30 seconds and then pop the top off. Just about the same amount of time needed to use a multi tool can opener. I keep a P-38 in my wallet anyway though.
@@MB-jg4tr that sound would be a give away to other looters you have food. Or attract zombies.
@@Mrik3113 lol yeah I guess
I think this is the only tool that needs a can opener
love the color of that mutitool lol well brother ill see you in the next one keep on keepin on
Cool video.
Your prejudice against can-openers indicates your inexperienced in office jobs, where having your ringpull broke off when you're alone at midnight is a real danger.
your pliers seem to be stiffer than it should be.. maybe some oil and/or slight abuse should help it
personal tip from pliers usage - i put pinky in the carabineer hole to make it more controllable
hammer tip... do not grab it as a stick to hammer stuff.. put a thumb, index finger, middle finger to get more control over the tool and avoid slipping damage
about blade - if you use it enough outside you will come across some man made material where the serrated part will make your life easier
Signal is a beefy more capable Skeletool.
That intro music scared my dog.
"Do some hard goreing" 😳
The hammer hitting the screw driver isn’t that big of an issue if you use the bit driver on the hammer end. A lot of reviews seem to either gloss over this or not even mention it at all, but I think it’s huge.
Edit: I just got to the part of the video where you got to that. Nice job
I wish they left the can opener behind. It’s a Swiss Army knife relic from canned rations.
Good points
I like the colors, but it’s a weird tool. Don’t bushcrafters need a full plain edge?
Definitely will make life easier haha
Still not sold
Nice
If Jimislash can get a competition chopper, i feel like someone should heed your advice and give us a Pete's Multitool.
A water level reader would be a cool option foe one of the plastic tools. Perhaps a bit holder or bit extender.
I’d rather have more space between the handles than getting my hand pinched every time I use the pliers.
Purty...
do a video sharpening a knife with a rock
I continue to think this is just a gimmick tool. As you went over in the review, half of the tools are useless or lesser versions of what they could be. The Charge/Wave just has more functionality. But, as an avid hiker, what I actually carry is the Victorinox Outrider. I think the large SAKs have the best features for camping and outdoor tasks.
i think the combo of knife saw pliers hammer keeps it over the line from gimmick to practical for me, but only just. Mainly I enjoy it as an object I think
I vote a thick spined Tanto/Wharny chisel edge for a multi-tool knife.
Teal.
my favorite colour to be in starcraft
G'day Pete, chickens lol, I feel the same way; .... standoff-ish, ...... but if we must have a look at it, .... can you eat it ; )
Serrated; .... wanna be a very small loaf of bread, .... or steak, lol, and surely you'd have at least a decent knife on ya anyway.
Saw; when is a saw ..... not a saw : I
Forget the ferro rod, whistle, sharpener ..... more trouble than they're worth ... gimmicky rubbish IMO.
Cut and strip wires with proper pliers. In fairness, replaceable blades are debate-ably of benefit.
Why would ya have a propriety bit driver, (or fixed screwdriver tools) when you have a standard 6 mm hex that can drive anything ............ well standard, ...... or even nonstandard with an adapter for that matter.
Soooo, as I've said before, if any of these multitools give you the fizz, fill your boots, but I'd go with a proper knife and pliers, together with a ratchet handle driver, (bits stored in the handle) and cop the extra size/weight. Cheers Duke.
