    I feel like your dad is now my dad after passing along that piece of wisdom about the tool on you. Loved your add-on perspective that the Signal is designed to get you by in a pinch - not replace the standard tools it replicates. Loved your channel. Gave you a like and sub. Just ordered my Coyote brown Signal. Cheers!

    Thank you for the review. I just saw this. Your noting that having the advice by your father regarding the Swiss Army knife being what is on you at all times... fantastic insight. Same thing with your noting the comparison between the emergency rations versus Thanksgiving dinner...
    Much appreciate your time making this review!

    I own the Signal for the philosophy of use you pointed out. It's a survival tool that is always on my person. What's good a tool if it's just at home on the bench? Like to have that peace of mind that I have this multitool on my person if I were ever to wake up randomly in the wilderness. The Signal to me is like a survival version of the Skeletool. My most used tools are the blade, pliers/cutters, screwdriver, and bottle opener on the Signal as well as the Skeletool. Anyways, this is the best review of the Leatherman Signal I've seen on TH-cam. I've watched this video twice today already and have ordered myself the Black and Silver edition of the Signal with an engraving. Great job on this video editing. Very entertaining! 😁

      This is my new account/channel and after three years, I came back to watch this to remind me why this is the best multitool I own. The Signal is daily carried in my EDC pouch along with a Style CS and a F-301 Compact pen. Your production video quality is still king compared to others I’ve seen after three years! Happy New Year! Here’s to surviving 2023! 🎉🥳🎊

    Great review, very informative and entertaining at the same time. I just ordered the turquoise/black model from REI with my 20% member discount (turquoise because I live in New Mexico?). I do a lot of day hiking and so many times I manage to forget to bring either a fire starter or whistle (mainly for summoning the dog). This seems to be a good choice for my outings, I'll probably pair it with a SAK that has scissors, tweezers, smaller blade, etc. Another grooming use for the pliers (esp. as you get older): plucking nose hairs.

    • @Soupcan13
      @Soupcan13  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! New Mexico is the perfect environment for this tool. Tweezers are the one thing I wish leatherman would incorporate into their full sized multi tools. Thanks for watching!

    I'm thinking about picking one of these up as a backup to what I usually have in my backpacking kit. I would definitely not want to rely on that as a primary for anything, but as something to stick in a pocket and otherwise forget about until disaster strikes on the trail? It might be great for that.

    • @Soupcan13
      @Soupcan13  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @Deadleg1-502

    Your review sealed the deal for me getting the signal. I’ve considered one for a long time. Ended up with the SURGE. Absolutely could not pocket carry it. To heavy. Pouch carry, not feasible do to my trade.
    I spend time in the woods and need a good plier for the job as well. A much better pocket clip than the wave+ and surge. The free P4 wouldn’t work do the magnetic closer collecting metal shavings on the job. Good mix of both. The secondary hex bit hole will absolutely pay itself off for me. Again. Thank you. Have a good one.

    Great review - just ordered one (because it kept popping up on my FB) - and you've confirmed my suspicion: When the poop hits the props, it's better to have something than nothing. Honestly the fire and whistle sold me - both are great signaling options plus warmth and cooking can be life savers. My EDC pouch will be downsized when this arrives!

  • @medusafriend6178
    @medusafriend6178 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Picked one up today from a REI in a nice dark green color. The Leatherman site doesn't list it as having this color available. It's my second - My first is a Kick from... 2004 or so. It's green and stainless steel. It only has about six tools on it compared to the 18 or so the Signal provides. I don't want the Kick to get ruined from me... Continuing to use it. As far as I'm concerned these things are immortal. I'll pick up the titanium Charge or a Surge at a later date. I liked the video, too. Not mall ninja-y or annoying.

  • @Phlfwlr
    @Phlfwlr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Cool review. I completely agree with you. It should not be your first choice for most of the tools, but it’s definitely better than not having it. I think really the only gimmicky tools are the whistle, ferro rod and sharpener. And you can definitely still use them. Everything else I could use pretty frequently on the day to day. Also the hammer is a big win for me. Ive found a lot of scenarios where I needed to use some kind of hammering tool that my palm couldn’t handle and this eliminates that. As far as the awl goes you could use it on things you probably wouldn’t want to use the tip of your blade on. And I’m glad you pointed out the beard hair pulling because I too struggle with that at times lol

    • @Soupcan13
      @Soupcan13  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey thanks for watching man. I did alot of SERE training back in the day. One of the things they trained us on was the efficiency of using a whistle to call for help vs your voice. 1 yelling fatigues you as well as gradually dehydrates you via moisture leaving your mouth as you yell. It also the sound of a human voice does not carry in the air as far as whistle. It may be something that I never have t use but I'm really glad I have it.

    • @tor2919
      @tor2919 ปีที่แล้ว

      A whistle is in no way a gimmick. It’s one of the most important things to have if you’re outdoors with any chance of getting lost.

    Ales, on the contrary, are too often missing (except also on the Surge that I prefer ) !
    Ale best with a hole : to saw -even with strings !!
    Very useful the more You remember it, so use it often.
    (For instance last week I used to drill an additional hole in a belt (later to be punched out around).

    I mainly got mine for the carabiner, so I can just clip it to my belt loop on my jeans. I fix air conditioners for a living, so the saw I mainly use for cutting holes in sheetrock, but the pliers, wire cutters, and knife are the tools I use the most. I got the green topo version because it matches my green Benchmade Osborne 940 knife.

    1000% agree. People Don't understand what the tool is really for I think it's actually a great backpacking tool. Also a great camp tool. I still carry certain things camping like a hammer. I saw but I don't have them directly in my hand and this could take. Care of most of the tasks. Without having to go and grab those from the car or campsite.

    I don’t know about reviewing it but I just bought a surge and I want to change a few the the the tools on here and they’re really on her aren’t a whole Lotta options for that which is disappointing safer instance is that the one that has on here it’s a they have a song on here that’s interchangeable with a file and a diamond sharpener I would like to have the saw and the diamond sharpener instead of the straight edge Knife, I’d like to be able to change things out and I would like one of those firestarters to I do go to the snow it is possible rewrite it is small but it would work love the video for sure worked little hard-core but worked, be safe.

    • @Soupcan13
      @Soupcan13  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks! For a light weight fairly capable tool I love the skeletool. For something more robust id go with the wave. If you want to get something a little less expensive the rebar or wingman are both great

      If you do a search in Amazon for "silicone magnetic desk mat" you'll find a whole heap of various sizes and colors. The one I have is similar to this one
