Perfect explanation. I kind of fumbled around with this, but this made it solid. Thx!!

I find one Before + a secound after is always better! I always use a channel strip of some kind after the pre, giving it more gain (for low output sources), Eq'ing (first) and then compressors, and after another Eq's (or effects) if needed.

Nice. When use a maximazer and an exciter additionally?

so, since my compression pedal has an eq knob, it is best to place it before my eq pedal .. ok got it, thanks ❤🎉

Could I high pass vocals going into the compressor? Then, sweeten with Eq after compressor?

Gr8t Video... I think that a beginner might be able to get away with first learning Subtractive EQ and focusing on that, and then rememeber that Your Ears are Your Best Tools, Rest them Ears Perodicall and so that they dont become too overwelmed, and then come back and gaurunteed you will hear subtle differancies, but listen at a nominal level. Its okay to play the track loud for the client if they whish it loud, yet... step out into another room to save your ears, measure bass or other sousunds that might dont pop out in that sweet spot while youre just sitting there! Over All... You may master your kungfu sequences or steps and then finnaly come up out of the box... Bruce Lee once said: to be like water... so there is No deffinetly end to All or a one way of doing anything within Our lives.... fight without fighting, dont add resiztence to resiztence and rezistence will decese. Typos... Gotta Luv'em LOL :) Yet My message is intelligeble hahahha... I subscride because bro is doing the Gr8t Work!!!! - Lu' TReal aka Krayzee Horse. Shine That light Brother

Love ur channel and how u explain mixing concepts! My question is if i tracked a vocal without compression and used a compressor first in my first insert, would that be equivalent to a vocal that was tracked with compression with the same settings? ( before any eq take place)Hopefully you understand wat i mean. Thanks

Try sidechaining the compressor, try and try again... eventually you'll get there.

Hi David, Always very effective in your explanations. But in view of all this, the dynamic equalizer is it not the best first treatment of audio processing especially the voice, and you already happened to begin your treatment as well? Thank you for everything.

Good question and video as always. First step for me (after gain staging) always is looking at every recorded track to see if there are things to clean up with Cubase channel strip EQ. Like low noise rumble or annoying resonances. Second is taking FabFilter EQ for further surgical EQ-ing if needed. And after that I use compressors of needed to control and take the dynamic or to make performance more lively and vivid. I do like to use compressors often as efx tools too, for example to bring in rythmically elements. After those steps I do sometimes use an EQ to bring back some vibe a compressor reduced too much. Those single tracks I often send to a return EFX channel where I got first an EQ, second a reverb or multiple other efx tools for example and after that I put a compressor to make the effect tail vivid. After that I often put another EQ or a saturation/distortion plugin. I love designing such effects chains and always try to try out something different :)
Have a great time David. Cheers.
    PS.
I'm working on a more complex mix right now which I used over the last few weeks just for training and trying out lots of different techniques and approaches. Should the day come when I really print this thing, may it be possible that I can send you this mix just for fun and you can say some words to it? Would be overly glad.

So there is no strict rule what I can understand from this , even if we have to use again an compressor after second eq and so one ...am I correct ?? Thnx for everything your doing for us . God blessed you !

rock on, i bought a few 500 comps on the bay of e, silly question but im guessing the lo cut filters on them just dosent react to whats below the settings and dosent filter the signal away as in an eq filter

As a general rule I boost heavy into compression to find tone and surgically cut after. Usually works. But your method is also a viable option.
