The series was born out of mutual desperation. Marvel was going bankrupt and the arcade division of capcom was also struggling to stay afloat. Now that both companies, marvel in particular, are in much better standing, they are much more particular about their brand and how it is used. The teams that made MVC3 and MVCI had to jump through so many hoops to get the game to stores and it might not be worth the hassle anymore.
Bunch of suits with their heads up their ass not giving the people what they want…they’re telling them what they want (which doesn’t work out well when it comes to the bottom line $$)
Marvel is the biggest brand on earth and Capcom is now incredibly small compared to them. However it wouldn't suprise me if they made a marvel vs game of just marvel characters.

Really hope this isn’t the last we see of this franchise, it’s been my favorite since i was a kid. Seeing some of my favorite characters crossover with so much love and care put into each character through the series is something that will always give me the greatest joy
I still want both Donovan & Jon Talbane from Darkstalkers in a MvsC game.

I don't know why but hearing max, possibly the biggest proponent for the resurrection of Marvel 2, all but admitting that the franchise as a whole is basically dead kind of hurts.
who know though anything can happen in another 10 to 15 years. i never thought we would see another MVC game after 2 then a 10 years later we got 3, and after that i thought for sure we would never see another one and then low and behold we got infinite. i could be a long long time but i don't think you can indefinitely count out any big fan favorite franchise from ever coming back someday

It's literally the best fighting game to ever come out in this new generation. Who's to say that Marvel Vs Capcom 4 being a reality won't be a success too?

And the issue is doing that is exactly what made MvC Infinite flop in comparison to its predecessors so Disney will likely view the series as a failure when it was Disney themselves who fucked it up
Sure, but what the MCU is now is quite a bit bigger than what it was when Infinite came out. So now they won't be held back by the lack of Xmen, Fantastic 4, Deadpool, etc. in fact if anything, they'll WANT these characters in the next game because they're going to be pushing new movies with all those characters. Still not perfect, but most all the fan-favorite characters can likely come back in the next game.
This series can't die like this. Been one of my favorites and the main reason I discovered Max's channel. We NEED a new mvc but with all the magic that was mvc3 (PD: X-men)

The new MvC should have the roster as diverse as 2/3, a strong cel-shaded visual style like MvC3, and a story mode like Infinite, but with better writing and more energy like in MvC3 intro movies.
A possible, hopeful, interpretation of the “one last time” statement could possibly be referring to the series of Arcade1Up cabinets themselves. This is probably the end of the series of cabinets, the final bout for this specific relationship. That being Marvel, Capcom AND Arcade1Up. Not just Marvel and Capcom… hopefully.

Capcom vs snk 3 really does seem a lot more likely and snk has had a lot of momentum with their games lately

That would be awesome but i wish it would look like Guilty Gear and DB Fighter Z with the 3D anime look. I hate the current look of KOF with its bland 3D models or SF5/6 with the exaggerated bulky look. I miss when fighters were animated.

@@MatticusFinch1820 i dont understand why there aren't more people who say this about SF5. it is UGLY AF!!! that bulky look you talk about is so horrible, SF4 looked way better with its cartoonish softer look, and obviously i dont even need to bring up how good SF3 looked... that cartoony anime style looks so good in fighting games and i wish more than anything that street fighter go back to that style.

Coming back to this video is wild considering what just happened this year.
Honestly I think we're all coming out of that "Holy shit wait how the hell is this possible lets fucking go etc." high and realizing that this was really NOT the best move to pull. Because remember, we all wanted MvC2 on modern consoles or at the very least a new PC release, we just needed SOMETHING that we could all be able to afford and buy, because copies of MvC2 on any console is ludicrously expensive. Sure, this cabinet is something that we can buy, but afford? In this current day and age? Not a chance. Hell $599 was the original price of the PS3 and we all know how that went.
@Enter channel name I think a lot of it has to do with Infinite compared to the previous games, especially when it came to the state that the game was at when it launched. It was a mediocre fighting game and a pretty awful MvC game. On the plus side age and a bit of extra polish from Capcom has allowed the gameplay to shine a lot more, but it's still not as good as MvC2 or UMvC3 in my opinion.

@@mamba7160 I played the demo when it was out. It played nicely, it seemed smooth to me. The gem system, I didn't bother trying to understand.
The character roster was much to be desired and the design was...bleh
I feel like the sprites are way better looking than the 3D.
But it's on sale on a major discount, so it would be worth checking out if you got 15 bucks to burn

NO IT'S NOT DEAD
I think Marvel vs Capcom as a series is a problem for both companies. The idea of the crossover, came from a time where Marvel was a very different being. The X-men and Spider-Man were really the only franchises keeping the company relevant at the time. The Avengers were the B-tier, Defenders were C-tier and Guardians were well below G-Tier in terms of marketability.
Today is far from the case. Marvel is such a behemoth that many characters that were unknown are now household names (who knew characters like Groot, Devil Dinosaur and Howard the Duck would be popular). Having a VS game really limits a roster size for both Capcom and Marvel.
Yeah, a 52 character roster is huge, but then cut it in half. That's 26 fighters on each side, and characters are not going to make it. And many characters that should get a chance won't get in.
This is why Marvel should have their own pure roster fighter and Capcom should have a Capcom All Stars.
I think character relevancy is truly a part of why MVC could be difficult to pull off.
As you said, back before the MCU characters that were HUGE in the comics circle (Dr. Strange, thanos, mephisto, kang, gaurdians, super skrull, etc.) were entirely unknown to non-comic readers.
Disney's current strategy is to pick niche characters and to promote them making their licensing cost much higher. Obviously this makes the challenge of an MVC game much harder, as it limits the pool of unknown characters they can use at a low cost.
If another MVC game is made, and marvel is still as big a behemoth as it currently is, then the roster dynamic will be much different. Hard to say anything close to UMVC3 or MVC2 will ever be attainable again

I mean I don’t agree with MVC’s roster being a losing battle. Not all the picks even have to be relevant ones. There are easy cuts like Winter Soldier, Black Widow, and Ultron who don’t really have much presence nowadays.
I feel like if they can bump the roster number to at least 30 per company side, it can mitigate characters being left out. Then there’s DLC where if they support the game longer, they can have the chance to add more relevant picks like more X-Men and Fantastic 4 characters.
Hopefully, yes, this could open the door for Capcom doing crossovers with other companies that are less restrictive.
As it is now, Capcom is better doing a Capcom All Stars that has the mvc gameplay on it than continuing doing mvc games.
I don't know why it has to die when they were already having crossovers with other companies before
@@mgsxmike Simply put, Marvel is a headache to deal with nowdays due Disney.
Both MVC3 and MVCI were plagued with troubles due Marvel/Disney.
Blocking what characters they could use, what moves they could have, etc, etc.
Then add all the fuckery that licensing brings into the table, meaning that the games will always have a limited live cycle, they become expensive to make, meaning that a good chunk of the budget is already gone before the game is made, and soooner or later become unavailable when the licensing expires.
They are wwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better making their own capcom centric game that continues the game style of the vs series or doing a crossover with another company since it gives them more flexibility to support the game for years like they did with sf5, despite that game having a disatrous launch than what happened with mvci, that very likely were blocked by disney to continue supporting the game.

And in a way , it would be interesting: a Capcom All-Star can finally reused the concepts of Ingrid and fellow Code Holders. Playing as a MvC while having some KoF-like policies.

I don't think it's dead... But I do think it'll be a lot longer than people might have thought before we see it again. To be honest, I think a new SNK Vs Capcom is more likely to happen than MvC.
I do still hold onto the insane dream of one day getting an Arc System Works Vs Capcom game. Doubt it'll happen but the thought alone always excites me.
ArcSys Vs. Capcom would be so hype but if that ever happens it would have to be animated in the strive style I don’t wanna see hyper realistic GG or BB characters

The end of 2020 leaks, which seemed to be on a pre-COVID timetable, would definitely point to Capcom having no plans for a future Marvel game...at least through maybe 2025. I mean, I figured MvC2 at cancelled EVO 2020 might’ve meant they were cooking up something. And when this was announced I was wondering if maybe this was that something. But, if this arcade thing came together within a year I doubt this was that something. If Marvel and Capcom were both aware of the Free MvC2 thing, and that’s partly why this even happened, maybe they have come together in the meantime for some future project. If they’re aware of hashtag, then it wouldn’t surprise me if they’re also both aware of how people have been modding MvC3 recently to add more Marvel (and Capcom) characters in. They might both see a future for a new VS game.
With the player numbers MultiVersus has reportedly been drawing, F2P on consoles and PC might be something Marvel is looking to explore with a fighting game.

All I want is a rerelease of the marvel and capcom fighting games on consoles, I may love my copies of mvc 2 and origins on PS3 but I want the games to be more accessible AND I am willing to double or triple or how many dips it takes

I'm kinda hoping this is a resurrection of the "Capcom Test" and if this sells well, then we will get more (more than likely its more on Marvel and the mouse than it is on Capcom). Capcom has been doing pretty good with their collections as of late, like the Beat'em Up Bundle and the Fighting Collection, proving that people are still interested in these legacy titles.

While I am glad MvC2 continues to live on in some form, it does bum me out that this cab is the only legit form to play this amazing game. I use a wheelchair and arcade cabinets like this have long since been inaccessible to me and many others like me. Home console ports let more people access games both financially ($600...yikes) and physically. I'll continue to hope for a MvC collection to come to pc/consoles and pray my 360 with the old ports doesn't die.

Hearing your in a wheel chair, the size of this machine actually wouldn't be too bad for you. These things are often seen on risers which are optional, arcade1up are actually a bit small without the riser. The height may be playable for your situation with no riser.

The MvC series is a beloved, one-time miracle to ever grace our gaming lives, but I wouldn't mind if Capcom would not do a MvC but does a Marvel-esque game with just Capcom characters. I understand most Marvel players are just there for the Marvel, but as a Capcom fan, man did I always want a Marvel style fighter filled with Capcom characters from Old to New.
Or more likely they will make a third CvS a Marvel-style game as opposed to something like the originals.

It’s always Disney’s fault when these things don’t work. So many examples for that to not be the case here because why would Capcom a company well know for re releasing older titles not want to release arguably there most popular game next to SF2

And from what I’ve heard, the current Capcom also wants an MCU-based roster for it, meaning it wouldn’t be much different from a CvS3 or Capcom All Stars anymore.
I remember writing in 3rd grade my favorite game was MVC2. I had only ever played it at my local movie theatre, a few times. We were poor so a lot of the time I’d pretend to play or watch someone else play. I was lucky to get the mvc cab but this one might be out of my reach.
When I was a kid this was the main attraction in the arcade it was the loudest machine there I still remember walking Into the arcade and hearing let me take you for a ride!!!!! Man that always got me hyped to play lol people always crowed that game too man I love mvc2 so much my team was Megaman Wolverine and captain commando were some of my favorite characters
$599 is too steep of a price for a mini replica cabinet to me. I have the money, but can’t justify that much for a novelty product that will just collect dust after a few months.
Here’s to hoping we’ll get a console release with rollback though.

Yeah, I can relate to this for sure. MvC2 have tons of memories from back in the days with me. In some form of fashion I have a copy of this game. I still have an OG Dreamcast with a copy of the game. I have DC emulation on my PC with the game. And I also have a modded MSH Arcade 1Up cabinet with this game and many more on it. It may don't have everyone unlocked, and kinda runs a tad bad, but it's there at least. I guess the best I can say is, if people got the funding and no copy of the game, but love the arcade deal then go ahead and jump on this. But if you're someone that's even a fraction in my shoes, having ways to get a copy of the game, save the money. It would be cool to have this game maybe on modern consoles with online play, but I don't see it happening. Your best bet on that is maybe Fightcade or something.
Also THANK YOU MAX for doing what you did to help get this made.
BTW i was playing Tatsunoko Vs Capcom the other day, the forgotten VS game and i got to thinking about how much of a licensing nightmare THAT would be to try to bring back today. Probably harder to do than anything Marvel!
Well. So much for preservation. I still appreciate this because they did get pretty much the whole 2D catalogue in a form that's as close to the original as they can sell it. The series deserves better... but I guess sometimes money and demand alone isn't enough.

I still have my digital download of MvC 2 and MvC Origins (MvC 1 & Marvel Super Heroes) on my PS3, so I'm just gonna stick with those. I'd love to buy this cabinet for the multiple games it carries, but I honestly can't justify $600 for it.

I do believe there is a chance that the Capcom Vs SNK series could return in some way whether it’s through a collection or a CVS3. Given how Capcom and SNK have chilled out, there’s like no drama between both companies anymore a collaboration between both companies could spark in the future.
Indeed there is a good chance, but not much conversation has happened after that one EVO. However, there is a berth between what the fans want and what Capcom would want to make sure SF6 doesn’t get cannibalized.
Yeah its nice and all but I'd prefer that experience as a console or pc release. Not everyone is rich and can save up or have the room for a arcade cab.

If this is the last of the Marvel Vs series that it's really too bad. This is my favorite fighting game series of all time. But i don't understand why Capcom just doesn't make "Capcom all stars" use their own characters and keep the "VS" style gameplay we all know and love.

We shouldn't stop championing for these games to get re-released and for the series to continue, not by a long shot. However, this fighting series was born out of a time and set of circumstances that don't exist in the same capacity anymore. While anything can always happen, it's probably best to have a realistic understanding of the situation and to set expectations accordingly. At the very least, it will take a LOT of work and time to get this revived in a practical format. I find it much more likely of a scenario that Marvel is going to want a fighting game that solely focuses on their IP instead of sharing the limelight with anyone and will want to go a different direction than what they've done in the past. Conversely, Capcom has a lot they are wanting to focus on themselves that they probably would rather get sorted out first given how they are JUST now starting to get taken seriously for their fighting games again (first SF6, then probably further collections and other fighting series).
And so, the road to the Redemption Arc will take a lot of determination and hard work to begin a series of Unlikely Comebacks to truly happen.

We are at the point that Max just need the number of the right guy at Marvel and the right guy at capcom. He should call them, plan a secret meeting with both, without them knowing, and just fix a remaster.

I don’t think it’s dead. If MVC returns, they need to do a everyone and everything from Children of The Atom through MVC2 in the game and it can be an updated MVC2 because that can also help mainstreamers discover the game all at once and still have the fans be satisfied for another long time because licensing seems to get trickier each time. Add the modes from Capcom Vs SNK 2 in MVC2 and a 1p vs cpu mode.
I hope MvC is not dead. I still have all of my MvC games and I never stop playing them because they are classics. It’s why the fighting game era was the best growing up for me. I’m so glad you have your channel to speak up in the history of fighting games, Max. Your impact has been so positive in the gaming community and around the world. I love fighting games so much. i know how much love the marvel vs capcom series have, but for me, capcom has lots of iconic characters, for a capcom only characters fighting game with MvsC gamplay style
I could say goodbye to Marvel vs Capcom if they replaced it with another vs game that played in a similar style. Marvel is cool, don't get me wrong, but you don't really need those characters specifically to make a fun game. A spiritual successor would be all we really need whether that means crossing over with another IP or all original characters. That might be sad for all the nostalgiac types though but the future will always be where possibility lives.

As much as I want more MvC, I think it's far more reasonable to want a pure Capcom crossover fighting game, they've got enough characters to fill the roster nicely

I'd love another chance to play Capcom vs SNK. I've only ever seen two units when our town had an arcade. Though it was $1.25 a pop to play. I missed out on most of the experience as a struggling teen.

Honestly? I know that Mahvel is a big part of our fighting game legacy but would absolutely embrace a different company to carry on a Capcom vs. title, and of course Capcom All-Stars would be totally worthwhile. FighterZ has shown that there is a lot of potential in versus-style games even if they aren't crossover games. It would be preferable to do it instead of leaving the gameplay style in the dust simply because of legal and licensing messiness.
I like how max has the power to shape fighting game destiny. Spoke rollback into existence for certain games and even helped get marvel 2 back. A little monkeys paw though.
I would love for this collection to be available on one cart for my switch. I can already see the portability of hanging out with some friends and easy TV hook up. And on disc for my Xbox. Hell a pc port would be awesome as well.
It would be awesome if they make another Marvel vs Capcom game soon.
Hopefully, the success of FighterZ and the hype around Project L convinces Marvel to work with Capcom again
If they do for crying out loud put the X-Men back. The '90s X-Men were the inspiration to Capcom Japan when they started develop these type of games.

Act I is Disney vs. Mega Man (That means we'll get fights such as Captain Jake vs. Classic Mega Man, Captain America or Ferb Fletcher vs. Proto Man, Darth Vader vs. Sigma, Ernie the Giant Chicken vs. Yellow Devil and so on).
Act II is Disney vs. Street Fighter and Act III would be Disney vs. Capcom.

I remember playing the arcade cabinet of Marvel vs Capcom 2 back in the old school style arcade games.. the last time I played it was way back in the mid 2000s that game had a big huge arcade cabinet..

Hey Max, I unfortunately believe you are right. Marvel/Disney and Capcom have not been willing to work together for years and most, if not every person who was there prior to Marvel 3 is gone.
That being said, I do not think the franchise is dead as long as people continue to play it, regardless of which title. I know you're aware of it, so if you haven't yet, please go watch the VODs from the MVCI Summit in Vegas on Evo weekend. I helped organize and fund the prize pool. The winner took home more money than some main game Evo winners, and a cool ass trophy. Trust me, it definitely lived up to the hype one would expect from a marvel tournament.
So it's not dead, just retired while its "kids" (Skullgirls and the like) continue the family legacy.

Another point; the current SF developers seem to prefer the MCU themselves; even saying Kilmonger could be a good pick for SF6. Not sure if anyone at Marvel has interest.

I honestly hope it comes back soon if it doesn't then it's been a blast having the series around. If Marvel vs Capcom doesn't come back then they should do a Capcom All Stars fighting game. If it doesn't come back then they should at least have a collection of all the games from X-Men children of the atom to Marvel Vs Capcom 2 in one Marvel vs Capcom collection

That cab is absolutely TINY!!! I wish that for once, Arcade 1UP would've replicated a different cab. I've been trying to score a showcase cab for years and idk, I guess I was a fool to think that I'd ever be able to pick a relatively affordable one. As tempting as it is, this is another Arcade 1UP product that I'll be skipping
I honestly wish I was born earlier so I could live through the era of pre MvCI because I love the marvel cast and seeing them fight alongside or against characters from an entirely different company is amazing. I grew up playing the first lego marvel game, playing sf2t on snes, and sf4 on 360. If this series was just a capcom fighter I honestly wouldn’t care if it weren’t for SF. I learned about so many other games made by capcom, hell, I wouldn’t know who Megaman, X, tron, or zero were if it weren’t for this game. Not adding the X-men because “no one remembers them” or because Disney doesn’t own the movie rights is dumb since I was like 10 when MVCI was released and cared about the x-men and my dad remembered them from the 90’s show, even my youngest sibling knew too (we also remembered the fantastic four, doctor doom, and all of those other characters are two). I may have only been alive to see the release of the last two games in this franchise (and have only played mvc 1&2 from an arcade in the mall like once although I do still play UMvC3 on ps4) but I’m gonna miss this series and all of the memories I have with it.
As someone who was in the FGC during that time it was genuinely the most type thing when it was announced. But slowly as days creeped up to release, really just disappointed everyone. Having no X-Men or F4 characters just kill the vibe for a lot. The staple character of the marvel side wasn’t even there and characters from both sides was just reused from UMVC3. It was just not a good time on release and the game died so quick despite having pretty solid gameplay. But hey the early days of announcement was some of the greatest anticipation for a fighter I personally had as a middle schooler

It’s actually capcom and Disney that be working together. So yes, they’ve done other cabinets previously. One of the cabinets had the Punisher game which nobody would’ve thought got a rerelease. I believe even the Alien bs Predator game was put on the capcom plug n play. However we still got yet to see any console port of it to consoles. So all in all theres been signs quite a bit of signs of possibilities, as seems Disney has been allowing capcom rereleases of games.
