- After a 3 month Covid 19 Lockdown I am back with "Trains Through Spalding", The new Freight Working from Aberdeen to Spalding is featured plus a variety of other workings, I hope you enjoy watching. Please comment and subscribe.
Used to be on the road as a salesman ,part of my area was Lincolnshire ,stark raving bonkers that rationalisation has ripped away the ability to transport more goods by rail ,not so long ago I remember working the line to March ,flower bulb festival trains ,wagons going to the banana place at Spalding ,and on a regular basis the sand traffic and the line into Wisbech, traffic flows to and fro from Boston docks and on and on .Barmy !
Thanks for sharing that Jeffrey, it started with the closure of the East Lincs line in 1970, That was madness, I remember the regular Fish trains that ran from Grimsby to London as well as other freight, it was such a busy line.
Definite dip in the track along the platform, Wagons clearly bouncing up and down!
I rememember at New Southgate Brits on the Immingham trains particularly John Moore and Clive of India both shedded at immingham and I had a customer in Alford (a builders merchant )on Beeching way ,I know the line closed 1970 so was it muted for closure with the beeching report ,the one thing I know is it left Licolnshire bereft of good infrastructure links :
Does anyone know when the next lot of diversions are via spalding as I've been told September but there isn't anything on realtime trains.
This route is providing Diesel Traction for the ECML!! It urgently needs wiring as a diversionary route. The LNER mooted this almost 90 years ago!!
What days do the pick ups work?
That contract has ended, not sure if or when there will be any more.

Work on the lifts has been delayed due to COVID 19,but they are doing a good job.

Roy May i ask what is in the new traffic flow as there looks to be no where to unload the tanks surly they are not dropped off to have to carry on at a later date
Hi John, it is calcium carbonate which is pumped into a Tank Lorry that takes it to a Paper Mill at Kings Lynn. (No siding space available at Kings Lynn)
@@royharrison4122 Roy many thanks makes sense just thought it was odd leaving the wagons in the siding with no visible way of discharge, thanks for another fantastic video eagerly awaiting the next

@@markneilson6380 Sounds very much a result of the extreme rationalisation we know in the UK. I am amazed they are using the sidings. We need to see more provision and more traffic like this
What a great video.Spalding station has altered since I were a lad int early 50s. Nice to see the siding being used for Aberdeen arrivals.Is there any way the train/service codes displayed can be interpreted as I haven't a clue?
Glad you enjoyed it Chris, The Headcodes such as 6E98 are what the Railway allocate in their Working Timetable for that Train, the first number is the class of train, the next letter is the area code and the end two numbers is just the number allocated for that service. I hope this helps.
@@royharrison4122 Thanks Roy.So is the area code shown where the train originated from ? I suppose E = eastern Region and would 6 = freight or am I way out.I live in Thirsk and intend to do a bit of ECML watching.Not done any since 1957.lol
@@chriswebb7739 the area code is usually the destination of the train, yes E is eastern area, X and Z are spl or short term workings, if you look at this Wikipedia page it explains it. :- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Train_reporting_number
I know Thirsk used to visit when we stayed with Friends at Helmsley.

Good to see the new freight flows into Spalding, long may this continue and grow. I would think by now a new track around the back of platform 2 wouldn't go amiss.
