We thought the Great Wall of China would be overhyped and not live up to our expectations, but it really did! It was amazing, and one of those places that is absolutely a must for everyone! Do you guys have any other experiences which exceeded your expectations?
Curious, What makes you think it is hyped? Actually MTY section is not the most grandeur one, if you go jiankou (wild GW) section, it's even more amazing (but dangerous), I just went there last month.
Imagine that wall was built in 2000 years back without using modern technology. Seven wonders of of the world are really wonderful. Anyway, I haven't visited anyone of it yet. May be when I do save enough to travel I'll try to visit all of them. Nice video. You guys must be historical relics or places lovers like me. I love History and even it was my fav. subject in high school days though I pursued other stream later on.
Rob & Jenny Jiuzhaigou National Park, the most heavenly place in China or even in the world. So busy there but the scenery was 100 times better than I had expected.
I went to Vietnam several weeks ago and I was only planning to stay in Hochiminh city for like three or four days. But when I got there I found it’s a city full of energy and everything is amazing. So I canceled all of my schedules and just stayed there for the rest of my trip lol
1:30 Mutianyu Section has much smaller capacity than Badaling Section, smaller parking space, no railroad, narrower road to approach. Even with Badaling Section, there are plenty of space to explore in most of the times. During peak times, whole of Badaling Section can be packed with people, in that case you can go to either Juyong Pass or Water Pass section near by. Badaling Section in peak period is captured on Google Earth dating on October 2018. On that same date, Juyong Pass and Water Pass had a lot of space for travelers. Mutianyu on peak times is not captured on Google Earth yet. If too many people gather at Mutianyu, there could be traffic jam, difficulties with parking, long waiting lines for cable car and toboggan. But most of the times, Mutianyu should have a lot of space for travelers. Chinese government made a lot of efforts on Mutianyu that I can see: cable car, chair lift, toboggan, visitor center with larger parking lot, higher standard road for mountainous 2 lane road for easier driving.

You should also check out the Simatai section of great wall. Some part of it are almost vertical ascending, and some part of it is very dangerous. There is one part the wall is just about 30cm wide, both sides of the wall are houndreds of meters high clifff.

From the subway station sign, I assume u guys staying nearby the Beijing Train Station? That is pretty close to my home. I can recommend some good local restaurants
@@RobandJenny a Muslim restaurant called "李记酱肉爆肚”, on No.80 Xihuashi St. Dongcheng District (Chinese address:北京市东城区西花市大街80号). It has excellent beef meat pie, beef noodle, and Beijing style hot pot, which has plain broth.
you can input the Chinese address on google map or whatever map app you have, I believe it only takes about 10 mins riding bike to get there if your hostel is close to the Beijing Train Station subway.

I just got back from China and went to that part of the wall a few days ago. We go there for 7.30am and no one was there so we had the wall to ourselves. By 11am it was packed full of people. It’s definitely more impressive if you can be there when there’s no tourist.
I remember the first time I went to the Great Wall is the most impressive experience, not the wall but the people.I went to the Badaling during the National Days, the Great Wall is full of people. You even didn't need to walk yourself, people behind you will lift you to forward
Rob & Jenny You ought to visit sections of the Wall that are battle-scarred, like Gubeikou, which is considered the most breathtaking Ming dynasty section. The Ming dynasty believed that the Mandate of Heaven requires the emperor and imperial city to be in the frontline of battle, hence Beijing is literally on the edge of China (at that time), and many parts of the Wall are heavily battle-worn. They are especially amazing to see in the winter!
wow, i have never seen the wall with so small humanity :-). You guys are super lucky and it is pretty cool to have space and snacks up there. btw, awesome vlog and SUBSCRIBED, haha
Is your first Chinese tour ending in Beijing? If there is a next trip to China, I recommend you another route to go to western China. Inner Mongolia: the prairie, experience the nomadic culture Qinghai and Tibet: the vast plateau, the birthplace of the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, Buddhist culture; Xinjiang: Desert Gobi Oasis, Islamic culture. It is completely different from the landscapes of eastern and southern China.
I have been to the Great Wall of Badaling in 2008. It was really really crowded and there were some foreign government official visitors there on that day so one direction was closed. It was not fun at all. The current great wall was built in Ming dynasty, whcih is like say 600 years old. It's been more than 2000 years so it's pretty much gone.

Yeh, the lift does swing a lot at Mutianyu. I got there in the afternoon but a cooler part of the year. It was very peaceful there just a few people. The reason the wall is partially destroyed is that it is where the Manchu's breached the wall in 1644 to eventually overthrow the Ming Dynasty by pouring through there and establishing the Qing Dynasty.
It was quite easy to get to mutianyu 😀 and worth the journey as well because there were so few other tourists there! 😀 A chinese friend would be helpful sometimes for talking to taxi drivers though 😂

Why are all the Great Wall videos from Peking? That is not the ancient Great Wall and does not have as many historic significances. I have a few friends who are archeologists who worked at the Han Great Wall many years ago. A large % of this ancient wall is located in a desert and it is in a straight line. Except that it is not quite a beautiful landscape. However, they mentioned atop a ruined watch-tower, one can see and feel the intensity of guarding an endless wall against a possible invasion of nomadic horsemen. At some selected sites mentioned from history texts, they excavated and found blood-stained arrow tips and other evidence of an enormous military confrontation. Just like the history books said, It is very hot in the summer but bitterly cold during winter. Genuine Han Chinese history and folk tales came from this ancient structure. Not to mention, unfortunately, many deadly battles occurred in the past 2000 years.
