As a veterinary nurse, it takes a lot to shock me, but those front paws when Pedro first came in... oh my gosh. You do amazing work.

@@pepapig1690 They have to change their way how they treat ANY animal they have. That's why almost nobody wants a bunny or some piggie form the Pet store. Because they're often sick. This makes me sad even more. Poor them
@@Daesma999 YES I AGREE 100%, I’m sorry, I didn’t say in the comment to “take care of every living animal” (cause I’m pretty shore by this video, that pet stores like, Petco, Petsmart Ext. that they don’t take care of the animals there.) But that comment specifically I wanted to focus on saying take of the Guinea pigs there, and give the guinea pigs a amazing home so that the piggies feel comfortable and so when the baby’s are born (and done properly) they have a nice and health home. So they can get adopted into a nice, loving home. Not trying bred any animal if they don’t know what there doing. Sorry.
I wasn’t expecting the ending. It made me cry like he was one of my babies. At least his last days were filled with the feeling of love and comfort. Thank you for what you do.

And then.. the music.. when I realized what does this mean galons of tears showed up earlier that the lighting shows up at the sky. The only thing I'm really sorry about is the death of some animal. Especially this little buddy..

You know, Pedro did have a happy ending. He was able to experience a a comfortable, loved, healthy, life. He was cared for, he was doted on, he was given a good life by the rescue. You all did amazing things for that sweet boy.
It's a hearbreaking story and i soon starded to cry. He was in lot of pain, but he really trusted you and it was wonderful to see that he felt better every day. This Pet Shop ...every Pet Shop has to close their doors asap and forever Here in Europe its not allowed anymore to selling pets, because they are suffering and nobody cares about their health and its against animal walfare . Thank you ...for spending your time du help this little buddies become healthy again.
As sad as this story is Saskia, you gave Pedro the chance to live and be happy and well. When you go to sleep at night, remember all the days you had with him and joy he gave you and know how much he loved you. Thinking of you and your family and the staff at LAGPR x

I have two of them at home and their doing great, so I'd hate for anything to happen to them and do anything to prevent it if possible.

In all honesty though what the boy did was great, his family deserves no pity for letting it get so bad before seeking help
@@meowsmakemusic718 Chances are, they did try to get help. She mentions in the video that they couldn't afford the treatment. Guinea Pigs are often classified as "exotic" in a lot of big name vet hospitals like VCA. I had Rats for example and while it was like 150 for a normal check up for a cat, we were paying 300 to 400 dollars just for a health check and screening for our Rats.
And we got them from a big name pet store, sick with some raspatory issues. Add in the cost of antibiotics, and you can easily pay 600 just for routine treatments because small animals, especially rodents, aren't a priority to a lot of vet places.
They probably shopped around trying to find a vet they could afford and then the little boy found these folks and surrendered him. They all did the right thing. If you can't afford to take care of a pet, you shouldn't have the pet. Especially one super sick like Pedro was right from the store. Special needs animals are not for the feint of heart, that's for sure.
@@myshmallow Not only are they classified as exotic and thus expensive, but in many areas you can't find a vet who will see rodents. I had to call every vet in a 30 mile radius before I finally found one that would see my pet rats. And then there's a whole treatment problem where vets might not know how to mix or administer medication for an animal that small.
These are sadly problems you wouldn't even know to check into until there's already a need for a vet. Guinea pigs, hamsters and rats seem like good first time pets for kids because they're so cheap to get. Most people wouldn't imagine that getting them treatment would be so hard or so expensive.
I can't imagine the pain you all must have felt when he passed away from neutering. You put so much effort into healing him and improving his life. I'm thankful that he was able to live pain free for a while before he passed away. Thank you for all the good work that you do. May God bless you all.

Why.............s life so brutal some times?, he suffered day and night, finally started to recover, made some friends, but then Poof, no body deserves this, where ever he is now, He is sure having a great time and are probbaly telling all the other guinea pigs how great and kind you are... Pedro, wherever you are now, you will be missed, you are a fighter, never forgot that.

I have learnt my lesson on having boys neutered. I took on a boy that was given up by a family who had no time for him. We tried finding him a friend and he just wouldn't get on with other boys. So we decided to have him done but he died days later. Broke my heart. 6 months later we rescued another boy who was tiny. It took a while for him to reach a weight that I was happy about before being neutered. We found an experienced vet (different to the first one). He didn't come round very well from anaesthetic and died less than 24hrs later. After this I vowed never to put a guinea pig through it ever again. Just devastating
It's always a massive risk with pigs and anaesthesia.
I lost two in a similar way.
Never again.
I would never neuter them as it's not a massive priority.
Some conditions are better of managed than taking them to the vets .
Then the cost aswell.
I've had pigs for 40years .
Even the best vets can only do their best.
I think my family never neutered our pigs as we didn't have any females or any intention of setting them free with females ever, anesthesia is a huge risk with piggies...
That's why I have unneutered only male groups for 20 years. They work amazingly with the right members and you skip the risk of sugery.
I had a neutered male before. He was neutered as we wanted to get him some girl friends after his brother passed away. He was not supposed to really be done as he was already 5 but as he was in such good condition the vets agreed to it. He was done and in 6 hours he was completely normal again. 2 weeks later he met his girl piggies friends toffee and fudge ❤️ He was soo good with them and we reckon he was a bit of a Buddha boy as he was soo calm with everyone. A year later toffee unfortunately passed away and it was just him and fudge left...2 years after his surgery (Feb 2019) he passed quite suddenly of old age....he was almost 8.we miss him still... in August we got 2 new piggies Luna and Heidi! They were really good and Heidi and fudge were inseparable! In late December last year Fudge passed away at almost 4 😢 and unfortunately Heidi also passed a month later due to going into shock because of fireworks neighbours had 😢 We then got Ginny a couple of days after for a friend for Luna! We moved the piggies inside once again for the night as we had moved them outside for both day and night previously.. Ginny was the smallest guinea pig I have seen in real life but she had the biggest ears ❤️ 10 months later both piggies are doing amazingly and even know some tricks! If you read all of this or even part of it you are an amazing person and I hope your guinea pigs or any other animals you have leave for a very long time! Also remember the pets you’ve lost, that way they won’t be forgotten and Maybe somewhere in the world they are reborn to help another person who now needs them more than you do because they’ve made you happy now they have to make someone else happy ❤️❤️
Guinea pigs are small fragile animals so it's a risk, I would always take them to a clinic that is knowledgeable about guinea pigs that know how to operate on small rodents

When I first saw him I was thinking “OK not the worst I’ve ever seen” and then you flipped him over......
OH MY GOSH.
This is what happens when you get a guinea pig from a pet store I don’t support PETA but I appreciate the awareness they have given me about where these animals they come from, huge horrible mills were guinea pigs are forced into breeding, living in wire bottomed cages And when mothers are useless to them they are killed in the most horrible ways I’ve seen, this is where pet store guinea pigs come from and every time some one gets a guinea pig from a pet store they support these animal mills, when quarantine is over I plan to organize a peaceful protest on the pet store to tell them to stop selling live animals because as long as they continue this the more pain and suffering they will cause. And I thank you so much for saving this guinea pig he was a warrior and a fighter stay strong up there little guy.

God Bless Pedro may he Rest in Peace.There is always a risk when any little Animal gets surgery,but at least he was not in pain and was giving lots of love.
I don’t agree with “adopt don’t shop” but I agree with adopt OR shop responsibly. Adoption isn’t for everyone as most of the time adopted/rescue pets are more higher maintenance than healthy ones, some people are just not ready to take on the extra care and money those animals need and probably couldn’t handle the possibility of them dying any moment and living a much shorter life. If you want to buy a new pet, do a lot of research on various stores and breeders. Never ever buy from big chain pet stores as they source all their livestock from mass breeders/mills hence why many pets they sell no matter the species are always sick and die early, and especially don’t “rescue” them, you are still supporting the store’s abuse by giving them your money and letting them know there is a demand and more animals will take their place and suffer. Support smaller, ethical breeders that prioritise welfare over profit.
When you exfoliated Pedros skin with the toothbrush he looked so relieved; you could tell how good if felt to be in the warm water soaking his skin and removing the crusties ❤️

I had one of my boys neutered, never ever again, 6 months of trying to save his life after he developed an abscess in his scrotum and in the end enough was enough and I had to have the poor darling PTS. Heart breaking.

I had my cats spayed but never my piggies. I only had males so I kept them in different cages (to keep them from fighting), there were no females around so I didn't see the point...piggies are so small that the idea of doing any kind of surgery that isn't absolutely necessary just didn't seem a risk worth taking.
At the time, I didn't have access to a vet that specialized in small pets either so I greatly feared the outcome. If I had piggies now, it might be different.
@@Nocturnalux larger animals are completely different, I've had my dogs and cats neutered without issues.
Boars should live together fine without being neutered as long as no sows are around. I've had lost of pairs of boars. Currently have 5 sows though so no boys allowed!
@@Villanelle3 That was my reasoning as well, that there was no point in neutering male piggies as I had no females.
I just looked at their tiny, tiny bodies and worried sick that the surgery would just be too much for them.
Piggies are already so fragile as it is- which is one of the reason why I no longer have them pets even though I will always love them to death- that any kind of medical intervention that isn't life-saving didn't seem viable.
I knew a poor chinchilla who suffered a terrible paw injury that required surgery and he went into shock and didn't make it. In this case it was absolutely required but it goes to show how smaller animals are at a much greater risk when it comes to surgeries.

I'm watching this knowing I'm going to have to put my guinea pig down. She had a stroke. I rushed her to vet. They gave her fluids and food and antibiotics but the stroke took its toll. She isnt mobile but she is eating. She is such a fighter. She always was. I know this isn't a quality of life. I've had to do this once before with my rabbit. Now here i am again. But i gave her an abundance of love. She was best friends with my flemish rabbit Shelby. Although i cried for days like a baby. I have to love her by allowing her to go to heaven too.

A few months ago we got a guinea pig from the pet store. Very young and no one knew it was sick because there were no signs but four days later she died in my arms. So I’m glad there are people out there helping and protecting
O my Pedro! I just wanted to hold him and kiss his face. Poor baby! I hate hearing them scream in pain. This made me cry. How could a baby piggie be in so much pain and have so much wrong with his health? He is now pain free. God bless you, Saskia for all you do.

God! So very, very sad. I am in tears. A valiant little life but at least there was joy and so much less pain for a while for this little guy.

Noooo Pedro I was not ready for the ending I'm crying he was so sad and hurt but he couldn't really enjoy life when he was healthy he didn't have enough time to live and run around and be happy for the rest of his life. I'm so sorry... I love you pedro
God bless! He had a moment of peace and love in his life before moving on.
