If you're an electrician, you'd know how to conduct yourself while presenting the shocking evidence. You would need to stay grounded and not get too amped up. So how would you have the the jury to a first degree murder when the 200 pics and the internet searches are all you have? Aka all circumstantial evidence. You can get him on indecency charge but how you gonna prove beyond a reasonable doubt that David planned the murder and committed the murder himself with out any other physical evidence? Remember if the jury don’t buy the circumstantial evidence & the personal violent history he walks as a free man with 0 felonies.
The mom and dad continually excusing his bad behavior was a big part of this. More than anything people need consequences for their bad behavior. A parents job isn't to bail them out. It is to teach them how to survive in the real world.

I was bullied in middle school by a kid who was paranoid and violent. His mom always protected him despite his pathological behavior. Years later he tried to murder her.
I knew a guy who used to bully people and threaten to kill them at school. His parents always protected him. Now he's in jail for murdering two prostitutes. He was very into animal cruelty too, and when we were in primary school the SPCA was called by his neighbours and they confiscated his pets, because he had poured gasoline on one of his dogs and set it on fire. His parents also tried to protect him when this happened.
He wasn't going to go to the funeral. The detectives had his sister lure him into going to his uncles funeral. She told him he really should go, because his uncle loved him so much. She talked him into going. After the funeral, they arrested him as he walked out.

Someone like David could never become a Navy SEAL. Two of my son’s Navy buddies from college are now SEALs and the amount of mental and physical discipline is beyond anything you can imagine. It’s not about how much weight you can bench press. David couldn’t even finish college or hold a job. How anyone could believe he was a Navy SEAL is beyond me.
Just goes to show how out of touch they were. I have a cousin that is a criminal and his brother is a police officer (what a pair). My aunt and uncle laugh off the criminal son's illegal activity while promoting their police officer son every chance they can get to make up for the blight. The criminal son has gotten car tickets for DUI and illegal parking and puts them under the name of the officer son so he won't have to pay them, risking the officer son's reputation, but even he doesn't seem to care, since he's his brother and has a sort of "I'll take this one for the team," attitude about everything his criminal brother does (likely due to the influence of his parents and their nonchalant attitudes towards their kid's bad behavior). When the criminal brother brought hookers over to the family home and did cocaine with them while everyone was on vacation, they laughed that off too as just another one of his "crazy antics." And when he physically assaulted a coworker and spouted racist and seperatist views, they said he was just having an 'off' day. It makes me sick. I'm sure this murderer's mom knew he wasn't in the Navy. She probably just willingly chose to believe that lie out of pure desperation to have others, and even herself, view him in some kind of positive way. This woman knew her son had psychopathic tendancies as a child and even said it herself after he killed that bird with his friend. She and her husband, like my aunt and uncle, just don't want to admit they raised a monster due to their willful blindness and permissive attitudes to the horrid behavior of their child. And a part of me can't feel sorry for them due to this...

Had a friend in high school, parents spoiled him bad, best skateboard, best stereo, new firebird, and he even had a bong in his room that he left out in the open, his room was the master bedroom of the house. Two months after graduation he killed him self. To this day no one talks about this guy, no stories to tell, no memories, it’s very sad to think about. Oh yeah and that was with the pistol his parents bought for him. Crazy shit people do to their kids.

No parent intentionally turns their child into a psychopath. They probably did the things they did just to keep him “happy” - they didn’t know how else to deal with him. This is what can happen when you completely spoil a child, never tell them no, and enable them. It's an example of what can happen when you shield somebody from the consequences of their actions. I don't feel it's normal at all for kids to kill animals. Either parents didn't do a good job of teaching them to be kind to animals or there is some kind of darkness that lies from within. In saying that, I suppose there could be exceptions to the rule. My father was a good man but when he was a little boy he saw an owl in a tree on the way to school. He threw a rock toward it not meaning to actually hit it and it keeled over and fell to the ground. He felt really bad and picked it up and took it to school thinking it was dead. In the middle of class it woke up and caused a big commotion flying around the classroom before it was released. He said he never did anything like that again. She wasn't blinded by love, but by self-interest and ignorance. She didn't want to, after she lost everything she had with her rich husband, also have the blight of a monsterous son on her reputation. She never did a lick of parenting - never punished her son, never knew what he even did for work, and just sat around in fear hoping he would make a turn-around on his own when that was an impossibility. She knew he was psychopathic when he killed that bird as a child and still never took him to get counceling or help. He killed her husband and she bailed him out of jail - he beat her multiple times and she still refused to be a parent and let him face the consequences of his actions. She even bought a gun to protect herself from him after she bailed him out again; (wtf could possibly be going through a mother's mind to get armed protection against her own son?) - she cared too much about being her son's savior than being his mother. I'm not sure what you call that, but it's not love. A parent that loves a child would not refuse to parent them or prepare them for the world, bribe them with money and then send them out on the streets where they do harm to others and are completely inept at social interaction. That isn't love, it's neglect, and we all have to suffer for it, including herself. A part of me cannot feel bad for her at all.

I have read that sociopaths/psychopaths often make model prisoners. Supposedly, they do well in a structured environment but all hell breaks loose when they can make decisions as a free person.

I think you should factor in parents who undoubtedly paid for very expensive and accomplished lawyers. Especially when the violence is within the family, and the victim is downplaying it, not seeking sanctions, paying for good attorneys, leniency is typical.

There are many reasons why prosecutors seek plea bargains. Sometimes the case is weak, but that is not the only reason. Prosecutors know that some juries are incomprehensibly stupid and easily manipulated. For example, in the OJ Simpson trial. I once testified as a witness in a murder trial. Multiple jury members were not even paying attention to what was happening, they were just staring off into space much of the time. At least two of them never even looked in my direction as I answered relevant questions. It was very disillusioning.
I genuinely never expect what cases you’ll cover! The titles and thumbnails often take me by surprise, especially since it isn’t just the usual form of true crime. And this one isn’t an exception-the title made me raise an eyebrow for sure. Some of the situations people end up in and the people they end up amongst can be…really crazy. And that means it’s nice to hear such analyses alongside the summaries.
He must get a lot of his ideas from Investigation Discovery Channel because I'll watch an episode and the next day he'll do a story on it. He either watches that channel on TV and then does it or looks ahead on the TV guide info on what the episodes are going to be. 🥰
I'm a teacher and over the past ten years I've witnessed numerous parents being completely shocked at how their spoilt brats turned out to be 🙄 Meanwhile they spent a whole lot of energy and time making sure their offspring never faced any consequences whosoever. They#ll be paying their kids rent for the rest of their lives.
This is so sad. Parents don't understand how they can fuk their kids up. My aunt and uncle spoiled my 2 male cousins beyond belief. They were disrespectful and just did bad things growing up without any correction or discipline at all. Before either were 16, they had brand new cars, designer clothes, designer glasses, just everything you can think of. Their parents, even my grandmother, rewarded them for dropping out of college, neither one ever held a job. One is now in his late 30s, homeless on the streets of Atlanta, a meth addict and crackhead. The other, also homeless, somewhere in Ohio, also a drug addict. Their main enabler, my aunt, had a severe stroke a few years ago, and wasn't able to supply them with money anymore. My aunt is a retired psychologist, and makes a pretty good income. Because she is not well, her husband, my uncle, their father, put her in a nursing home and now has access to all her money but refuses to help his sons, which in part, i understand. He's in his late 70s and can't do much. On the opposite side, my sister and i didn't grow up wealthy like them, we both had jobs at 15, had 2 parents that were strict disciplinarians, we both finished college paid in full from scholarships, my sister is now a successful lawyer in California and I own several businesses with my husband and a successful stock broker. My point, discipline, structure, accountability, and EXPECTING your children to succeed, can make all the difference in the world. My parents weren't soft on us like some of these new age parents. We did what we were told, and that was it. There was no discussion, no options. As we grew older, we were able to develop a more kind of friendship type relationship with our parents, but they still demanded respect. Parents these days better wake up. Kids are controlling the parents and not the other way around.
I have a feeling that we're going to see more and more cases like this one. We are raising self serving, entitled children. Like the college aged girl that beat her mother with a cast iron skillet (then stabbed her several times) when confronted about her failing grades. Sickening. It does make me wonder if self centeredness is genetic and an important component of becoming a violent killer. His dad certainly seemed selfish with his lavish lifestyle. A lack of empathy is necessary to be a violent person.
I witness parents today who just simply refuse to say no to their children. These same parents cannot hold a one minute conversation because they are so enamoured with their children; they are distracted by their very presence. Having boundaries and comfortably saying no to a child at appropriate times is a lost art for some parents.

Outside of work, I’ve never meet a seal. I’ve meet plenty that said they were, but couldn’t answer the simplest of questions. My realtor said her son was a seal, turns out he was a rescue swimmer(which is a respectable mos). My loan officer said her son was a seal after seeing my application, turns out he was an electrician that worked on the team house. One of the most important and harest things a parent HAS to do is to teach a child consequences. My daughter lost her father at 7 he died a sudden natural death in front of us...he was her hero. Luckily I found a terrific new mate who was a wonderful stepfather. BUT we held her accountable whenever she screwed up. She became a military helicopter pilot and a good mother to HER 3 children. She shoplifted a Barbie doll with a friend at 10..she got marched back into the WalMart was forced to confess and to apologize to the manager humiliating her.. the items were paid for. She never shoplifted again. She was a good student but bored with school in senior year after she received early acceptance to university she started skipping.She did not meet the attendance requirement for graduation...I could have visited the superintendent and gotten her on the graduation list but I did not....she had to learn another lesson. It is hard as a parent NOT to fix your child's screwups when you can, but you are teaching them the WRONG lesson and THAT will bite them hard in future. I knew this, I was a clinical psychologist and managed a state agency culminating my career as a prpfessor and college administrator. She joined the Coast Guard instrad of attending unoversity and had to scrape bouys..she had taken the GED and two college courses required by the CG for non HS graduates. She quickly began taking college courses online as soon as she could . She got a bachelors degree, two master's, one from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government in International.Relations...she finished her career as military attache to our US ambassador to Barbados. She is retired amd her eldest son is career Coast Giard as well. The miliitary is tremendous for teaching discipline and SAVES the character of many people who need some serious discipline in their lives. They got my daughter to make her bed ..an absolute MIRACLE in my book. NO punishment ever worked eith he...just humiliation...she could stand in the corner an hour as a child, she could kneel on bricks of the fireplace for half an hour as a preteen...whatever punishment I could devise...limiting social life, you name it, no TV, NOTHING WORKED with her ...she was in a contest of wills with me her entire childhood. But she turned out great after all..Parenthood is something I WANTED...it turned out to be the hardest thing I ever did... way harder than a PhD or running a state agency in a highly divisive politcal environment. Too bad this guy didnt join the military they either would have straightened him out or he would have washed out.

In Willard’s allocution, he cannot seem to stop smiling while apologizing for the murder. It would be interesting to get your insight into this behavior. To give a child everything they want is abuse. It doesn’t mean that David is not guilty of his crimes, but it does explain why he ended up being this monster. To put a child on a pedestal is NOT seeing the child for who he is, and to not give a child boundaries is also abusive, because the child never learns to differentiate between mine and yours or what’s inappropriate actions. Tragic case.

The mom and dad continually excusing his bad behavior was a big part of this. More than anything people need consequences for their bad behavior. A parents job isn't to bail them out. It is to teach them how to survive in the real world.

I was bullied in middle school by a kid who was paranoid and violent. His mom always protected him despite his pathological behavior. Years later he tried to murder her.
I knew a guy who used to bully people and threaten to kill them at school. His parents always protected him. Now he's in jail for murdering two prostitutes.
He was very into animal cruelty too, and when we were in primary school the SPCA was called by his neighbours and they confiscated his pets, because he had poured gasoline on one of his dogs and set it on fire. His parents also tried to protect him when this happened.

Someone like David could never become a Navy SEAL. Two of my son’s Navy buddies from college are now SEALs and the amount of mental and physical discipline is beyond anything you can imagine. Just goes to show how out of touch they were. I have a cousin that is a criminal and his brother is a police officer (what a pair). My aunt and uncle laugh off the criminal son's illegal activity while promoting their police officer son every chance they can get to make up for the blight. The criminal son has gotten car tickets for DUI and illegal parking and puts them under the name of the officer son so he won't have to pay them, risking the officer son's reputation, but even he doesn't seem to care, since he's his brother and has a sort of "I'll take this one for the team," attitude about everything his criminal brother does (likely due to the influence of his parents and their nonchalant attitudes towards their kid's bad behavior).
When the criminal brother brought hookers over to the family home and did cocaine with them while everyone was on vacation, they laughed that off too as just another one of his "crazy antics." And when he physically assaulted a coworker and spouted racist and seperatist views, they said he was just having an 'off' day. It makes me sick.
I'm sure this murderer's mom knew he wasn't in the Navy. She probably just willingly chose to believe that lie out of pure desperation to have others, and even herself, view him in some kind of positive way. This woman knew her son had psychopathic tendancies as a child and even said it herself after he killed that bird with his friend. She and her husband, like my aunt and uncle, just don't want to admit they raised a monster due to their willful blindness and permissive attitudes to the horrid behavior of their child. This is what can happen when you completely spoil a child, never tell them no, and enable them. It's an example of what can happen when you shield somebody from the consequences of their actions. Eventually it will catch up to them but in a much worse way than it would have otherwise. Because it just encourages them to be more and more bold and see what they can get away with. Combine that with a particularly psychopathic person and somebody will end up dead.

Spoiled children usually Hate their parents. Many parents are under the false impression that spoiling a child is love, it's just the opposite. Not every spoiled child will turn into a killer but they often make self-centered partners in relationships at the very least. I don't feel it's normal at all for kids to kill animals. Either parents didn't do a good job of teaching them to be kind to animals or there is some kind of darkness that lies from within. In saying that, I suppose there could be exceptions to the rule. My father was a good man but when he was a little boy he saw an owl in a tree on the way to school. He threw a rock toward it not meaning to actually hit it and it keeled over and fell to the ground. He felt really bad and picked it up and took it to school thinking it was dead. In the middle of class it woke up and caused a big commotion flying around the classroom before it was released. He said he never did anything like that again. She never did a lick of parenting - never punished her son, never knew what he even did for work, and just sat around in fear hoping he would make a turn-around on his own when that was an impossibility. He killed her husband and she bailed him out of jail - he beat her multiple times and she still refused to be a parent and let him face the consequences of his actions. She even bought a gun to protect herself from him after she bailed him out again; (wtf could possibly be going through a mother's mind to get armed protection against her own son?) - she cared too much about being her son's savior than being his mother.
I'm not sure what you call that, but it's not love. A parent that loves a child would not refuse to parent them or prepare them for the world, bribe them with money and then send them out on the streets where they do harm to others and are completely inept at social interaction. That isn't love, it's neglect, and we all have to suffer for it, including herself. A part of me cannot feel bad for her at all.

There are many reasons why prosecutors seek plea bargains. Sometimes the case is weak, but that is not the only reason. Prosecutors know that some juries are incomprehensibly stupid and easily manipulated. For example, in the OJ Simpson trial. I once testified as a witness in a murder trial. Multiple jury members were not even paying attention to what was happening, they were just staring off into space much of the time. At least two of them never even looked in my direction as I answered relevant questions. It was very disillusioning.
I genuinely never expect what cases you’ll cover! The titles and thumbnails often take me by surprise, especially since it isn’t just the usual form of true crime. And this one isn’t an exception-the title made me raise an eyebrow for sure. Some of the situations people end up in and the people they end up amongst can be…really crazy. And that means it’s nice to hear such analyses alongside the summaries.
He must get a lot of his ideas from Investigation Discovery Channel because I'll watch an episode and the next day he'll do a story on it. He either watches that channel on TV and then does it or looks ahead on the TV guide info on what the episodes are going to be. 🥰
I'm a teacher and over the past ten years I've witnessed numerous parents being completely shocked at how their spoilt brats turned out to be 🙄 Meanwhile they spent a whole lot of energy and time making sure their offspring never faced any consequences whosoever. This is so sad. Parents don't understand how they can fuk their kids up. My aunt and uncle spoiled my 2 male cousins beyond belief. They were disrespectful and just did bad things growing up without any correction or discipline at all. Before either were 16, they had brand new cars, designer clothes, designer glasses, just everything you can think of. Their parents, even my grandmother, rewarded them for dropping out of college, neither one ever held a job. One is now in his late 30s, homeless on the streets of Atlanta, a meth addict and crackhead. The other, also homeless, somewhere in Ohio, also a drug addict. Their main enabler, my aunt, had a severe stroke a few years ago, and wasn't able to supply them with money anymore. My aunt is a retired psychologist, and makes a pretty good income. Because she is not well, her husband, my uncle, their father, put her in a nursing home and now has access to all her money but refuses to help his sons, which in part, i understand. He's in his late 70s and can't do much. On the opposite side, my sister and i didn't grow up wealthy like them, we both had jobs at 15, had 2 parents that were strict disciplinarians, we both finished college paid in full from scholarships, my sister is now a successful lawyer in California and I own several businesses with my husband and a successful stock broker. My point, discipline, structure, accountability, and EXPECTING your children to succeed, can make all the difference in the world. My parents weren't soft on us like some of these new age parents. We did what we were told, and that was it. There was no discussion, no options. As we grew older, we were able to develop a more kind of friendship type relationship with our parents, but they still demanded respect. Parents these days better wake up. Kids are controlling the parents and not the other way around.
I'm a professional nanny. Most parents don't know what the hell they are doing....

I have a feeling that we're going to see more and more cases like this one. We are raising self serving, entitled children. Like the college aged girl that beat her mother with a cast iron skillet (then stabbed her several times) when confronted about her failing grades. Sickening. It does make me wonder if self centeredness is genetic and an important component of becoming a violent killer. His dad certainly seemed selfish with his lavish lifestyle. A lack of empathy is necessary to be a violent person.

When someone claims they are/were a SEAL, the odds are overwhelming that they are lying.
I witness parents today who just simply refuse to say no to their children. These same parents cannot hold a one minute conversation because they are so enamoured with their children; they are distracted by their very presence. Having boundaries and comfortably saying no to a child at appropriate times is a lost art for some parents.

Outside of work, I’ve never meet a seal. I’ve meet plenty that said they were, but couldn’t answer the simplest of questions. My realtor said her son was a seal, turns out he was a rescue swimmer(which is a respectable mos). My loan officer said her son was a seal after seeing my application, turns out he was an electrician that worked on the team house.

One of the most important and harest things a parent HAS to do is to teach a child consequences. My daughter lost her father at 7 he died a sudden natural death in front of us...he was her hero. Luckily I found a terrific new mate who was a wonderful stepfather. BUT we held her accountable whenever she screwed up.
She became a military helicopter pilot and a good mother to HER 3 children. She shoplifted a Barbie doll with a friend at 10..she got marched back into the WalMart was forced to confess and to apologize to the manager humiliating her.. the items were paid for. She never shoplifted again.
She was a good student but bored with school in senior year after she received early acceptance to university she started skipping.She did not meet the attendance requirement for graduation...I could have visited the superintendent and gotten her on the graduation list but I did not....she had to learn another lesson.
It is hard as a parent NOT to fix your child's screwups when you can, but you are teaching them the WRONG lesson and THAT will bite them hard in future. I knew this, I was a clinical psychologist and managed a state agency culminating my career as a prpfessor and college administrator.
She joined the Coast Guard instrad of attending unoversity and had to scrape bouys..she had taken the GED and two college courses required by the CG for non HS graduates. She quickly began taking college courses online as soon as she could . She got a bachelors degree, two master's, one from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government in International.Relations...she finished her career as military attache to our US ambassador to Barbados. She is retired amd her eldest son is career Coast Giard as well.
The miliitary is tremendous for teaching discipline and SAVES the character of many people who need some serious discipline in their lives. They got my daughter to make her bed ..an absolute MIRACLE in my book. NO punishment ever worked eith he...just humiliation...she could stand in the corner an hour as a child, she could kneel on bricks of the fireplace for half an hour as a preteen...whatever punishment I could devise...limiting social life, you name it, no TV, NOTHING WORKED with her ...she was in a contest of wills with me her entire childhood.
But she turned out great after all..Parenthood is something I WANTED...it turned out to be the hardest thing I ever did... way harder than a PhD or running a state agency in a highly divisive politcal environment.
Too bad this guy didnt join the military they either would have straightened him out or he would have washed out.

Can you analyze Willard Miller and Jeremy Goodale? They are teens who killed their Spanish teacher over a bad grade Willard received. In Willard’s allocution, he cannot seem to stop smiling while apologizing for the murder. It would be interesting to get your insight into this behavior. Jeremy appeared remorseful in his allocution, but again, I would be interested in hearing your thoughts.

To give a child everything they want is abuse. It doesn’t mean that David is not guilty of his crimes, but it does explain why he ended up being this monster.
To put a child on a pedestal is NOT seeing the child for who he is, and to not give a child boundaries is also abusive, because the child never learns to differentiate between mine and yours or what’s inappropriate actions. Tragic case.
Of course he's a model prisoner. In prison he's surrounded by people who will make him instantly accountable for his behavior. He's the type who likes to fight women and old men. When faced with young men who are more than capable of fighting back, suddenly he's a choir boy.🙄
