I use to own a 06 RSX Type S and a 06 Civic Si. The FG2 Si had way better handling and the driving position was way better. Also, the LSD made a huge difference. The only things that I liked more about the RSX was the exterior styling and it didn't have the Rev-Hang that the Si had.
My comment made it In the video for the first time😂 I hate going to the track and being the only DC5. I absolutely agree with you on the price, if you can snag one for a deal it makes sense. These days 10k for a Less than 150k miles, no rust and clean paint is the norm. Also the A spec OEM lip kits are very expensive, if you can find a type S with that stuff on it already snag it. I’ll be making a full buyers guide/mod list for the DC5 summer this year on my YT channel. I’ve owned 5 of these things so far and also worked on multiple of my friends. My favorite thing about this car is because it’s coupe but it also looks edgy and sleek at the same time. The interior is just perfect. DC5 bois, I wanna see more of yall out on track.
First learned how to drive manual on my best friend’s ‘06 Type-S (“Lily”) in a Lord & Taylor parking lot. We then took her on an ~1k-mile roadtrip around the northeast, love this car! It was a core memory making experience & why I now own an ‘06 S2000 (“Lilith”). Great video Alex!
RX-8 has a very different, but in my experience is pretty much on par with the driving experience of the RSX. There's a reason they're two of my favorite cars that aren't bank breaking. RSX for fwd and RX-8 for RWD. They are the golden age of sports car. Just enough computer to not be cumbersome, but not enough computer to piss you off and take away analog experiences. 👌🏻 Definitely agree with this Video.
I have an 02 type s with 245,000 on her, even in rough shape this thing is fun to drive, my only complaint is that i havent been able to take it on back roads yet lol
Have a 03 base, bought about 2 years ago for 3k one owner. I love it, ik its not a type s but i have done some basic stuff to it. Headers, exhaust, big brake kit, short shifter, and i did put an LSD in it. After that LSD it felt like a new car, transformed!
I’ll put it this way, I have a 2021 Subaru WRX (which used to be my project car) and I just purchased a 2006 Acura RSX TYPE-S to use as a daily…. The RSX is now the project car and my WRX is now my daily, these RSX’s are so much fun I absolutely adore mine
Tbh if you want to lower your DC5/EM2/EP3 chassis I suggest getting whatever coilovers you want, Extended lower ball joints for the front to correct your Roll center suspension geometry, Polyurethane LCA bushings for the front or front spherical LCA Bushings and Spherical inverted Tie Rod ends to help reduce bump steer. And a good proper Alignment. These suspension mods for the DC5/EM2/EP3 chassis will help the handling of the car no matter if you’re tracking, pure daily driving, or occasional spirited drives. Yes it’s costly in the beginning but after you install these needed parts for these chassis, you would think to yourself that you should’ve done these mods in the beginning.
Hey man thanks for the great video. I love your stuff. One thing that really resonated here in this video is when you said you'll drive an RSX and you'll become a fan of Honda products. You nailed it. This is an awesome daily driver and extremely fun car to drive. So much that I cannot imagine life without this car as a daily driver. I have 285k on my 2006 RSX type S and why buy a new car when you can fully restore one of these beauties? And like you said, now that we're 40 we are buying these cars lol. But it's great to restore and keep these things running
I bought an rsx Saturday gone I am insanely in love with this car, it’s really nice and comfy I look at ur video from fitment industry, but the car bro ever since I was small I wanted one and now I got it, it’s my first car in Canada
First car was a base RSX 5 speed and I now have a FL2 hatchback 2.0 6 speed. My civic drives and feels so much like a modern day RSX and I absolutely LOVE the car
Love these cars. I'm on my 3rd one. First was an auto base that I had fun with in Highschool with friends. Second was a type s that I still have and third is yet another type s. Need more
Make a video for the TSX! I've owned one for the last 6 months with a 6 speed and put over 11K miles on it! Greatest car I've ever owned, and it's basically an RSX with back doors, and in my opinion looks waaaaay better.
Seeing the short you guys posted about the Focus ST earlier, I have a hunch those are coming next. Depending on how you build them, I feel very similar about mine to how the RSX is described. The community for the Focus ST and the Fiesta ST is AWESOME, and people will go out of their way to help you with these cars. The key with these (and a pitfall I've seen quite a bit of) is people buy these cars and add parts or cheap out on things they shouldn't. RaceLand coilovers are very common, as well as crappy OTS tunes that cause a huge risk for LSPI. Besides stance, people tend to build these cars one of 2 ways: 1. Like the RSX, these cars are fantastic for corner carving and running at autocross. High quality coilovers, strut tower braces, rear camber arms, and a well balanced tune can make these cars super competitive at autocross. Read up on STHs rules, as that's where these cars are most competitive. A 265/35 on an 18x9+35 is the preferred setup here after playing with camber due to class regulations. 2. Straight line speed. People ignore the previous way of building it, and slap a bigger turbo on. Typically a Garrett GTX2867R or a G25-660 (or its Pulsar Equivalent) is a good starting point for most people, and you can get a little over 400whp before the stock motor is at its limits on an e50 blend with an upgraded fuel system. The major players here are ATP Turbo, but keep in mind their manifold isnt port matched and can cause the cylinder head to crack. BNR sells a journal bearing 2867 which is very popular for a frugal build, but if you're wanting to run a nicer setup with a Garrett or Pulsar get an Arc Enemy turbo manifold or run a Clayton Performance setup which includes everything needed to run an externally gated turbo. Now, the normal achilles heels of these cars. Heater core hoses like to leak at the firewall at around 100k, the valve covers like to weep around this mileage, the motor mounts are notoriously soft, the stock intercooler can heat soak 100°F above ambient, and the EVAP system will rear its ugly head over and over again. The F.U.F.F. is a great community lead effort and allows the EVAP system to be 100% user servicable and can reduce that cost of ownership immensely. Also, Ford leaves a lot of other market features on the table and they're accessible through a program called FORSCAN. I think that covers the basics, and you can start your rabbit hole there!
02 type s rsx, my first stick shift and after I snatched it for less than 5k I haven’t regretted it (past owner moneyshifted ironic to the video) kseries got 80k and as my first real spirited fwd car, I have preferred it over my other two cars (b8 s4 and b8 a4), snatched a turbo kit too but plan to keep it reliable lol
I had two RSX Type S at the same time. One had I/H/E and the other had a full race turbo kits, full fuel system and made 490 at 14 psi. Both were a blast to drive. I would take my friends for rides in the N/A one first then switch to the turbo one. The reactions were great. Lol
I have a 2002 base model. Had it a few years. Best car I've ever owned. Easy to work on. Still gets compliments from people regularly. Even with faded paint lol... Great, underrated cars. I wanted one, when they were new. Dream car, achieved haha...
Love seeing these cars get love. Unbelievable reliability. Mines got almost 300k and has been FBO for a long time. Been through accidents and body repairs, axles and brakes and belts and a rack, but never any engine or trans failures. With no sign of them on the horizon either. Time just doesnt apply to these.
same, I just got a 03 manual base model and I ended up liking it more than I'd ever imagine. Selling my k series EG Hatch and im building and boosting this rsx lol
I've dailied a base automatic for 14 years now. Added more than 200k miles to the 96k I bought it with. The only mods I've done are in handling and aesthetics, but (or maybe _because_ of that) it has been a most PERFECT daily driver. It's still slow as balls, but that's not what I got it for. The styling (inside and out) still holds up in modern traffic with minor upgrades (at least imo), with the handling mods it's terrific fun at the roundabouts and in the local canyons, and since the rear seats actually fold flat the hatch has an insane amount of cargo room. At almost 320k miles, the engine needs a rebuild, and the typical Honda quarter panel rust has made its appearance, but I can't decide whether I actually want to turn it into another project and put a proper K in there - it's just been too reliable for me, so I'm hesitant to ruin that. But either way it's getting a full resto. I'm never getting rid of this car. ...It must be said that the '02-'04 seats are terrible if you have a bad back. I swapped to '05-'06 seats, with their improved padding, and they're so much more tolerable on longer drives.
RSX type S was the car to have when it first came out…I remember cuz I just got my license a year before. Then a month or so later we got the WRX… and then that was the car to get. 2002 was a good yr
The time period, the 2002-2004 this was the car to buy. In late 2004 rumors started that Honda was bringing the same k20 motor to the civic with an LSD. Had Honda put the LSD in the RSX type S I would have bought a Type-S in 2005. Then in 2006 I was about to buy an Si and rumors started that they were going to make a sedan Si. I then waited 1 more year. Totally worth it, the 2007 Si Sedan was the perfect car for a starting family.
I wanted a 2002-2004 Type S in blue so damn badly almost a decade ago. By the time I was able to afford owning one (or a vehicle in general) the prices had shot up so much that they cost as much as my dream daily, an STI hatch, so I ended up getting one of those instead. When I have the parking space, I'm going to try hunting down a decent example.
If you wanna run 18s and have fender lip fitment in the front 18 x 9.5 +22 with a 215/35/18 tire Make sure you have decent spring rate (20k at least) (If you look up towards the strut some of the frame may hit tire just cut into fins and bang up like how they do with wide body’s in a way and paint for rust protection) will have you sitting pretty with bare minimum of -3° You will barely rub on hard bumps and full turns 🤙🏽 loved my RSX miss it a bunch
Make sure you run bc extreme lows coils to avoid hitting axle and will most likely have to remove a collar or two (max that preload out to try to go even lower if you want too.) Do at your own risk but it worked for me 😂
Had to get a new timing chain and clutch at 120k miles, power steering pump is also leaking, but other than that it's been an amazing car. And yes the taillight gasket must be replaced and watch for leaks into your trunk when it rains.
I have a mostly stock 02 type s and i love it. Bump steer is real but it's fun to drive and puts a smile on my face everytime i drive it. It's fun but slow for sure haha. My F150 is over a second faster 😂
Thank you for mentioning cruise control! Trying to convince companies to make a upgraded tb that accepts the rsx cruise control. If anyone here has a hybrid racing 74mm with cruise control hit me up!
I miss my DC5. Such an intoxicating sound. I hope to find a mostly stock one in the future and get back to that platform. Maybe import a Type R from Japan or the UK.
Turboed these things are insanely fast. From factory these sit under 2800 lbs which is not a lot. You can AWD these fairly easily these days. A good healthy K20 will handle 500 HP out the box. 500 HP in a tin can like this will really put a lot of cars to shame in straight line speed. Throw in some pistons and rods you can handle 700 all day with no issues. Only thing that really sucks on these is the trans. Build it LSD and you’re having a lot of fun.
Best time for honda engineering. I own an ep3 type R. Will never get rid of it! Always makes me smile and it's still a civic... edit then on top of the S is both civic R and integra R 😂. N that clutch shit was an issues this summer lol. Thank God for the honda brothers in my life. We got it going n back on the road.
Alex you have it confused the ep3 si did not in fact come with LSD the comparison that everyone brings up when rsx vs civic si is the 8th gen si as they are far more similar in just about everything (yes it’s not the same generation but they’re very close) the 8th gen si also came with the k20z3 same hp as the rsx but had far superior handling to due to better suspension components and the factory LSD it also weighed almost the same as the rsx hence the rivalry between the two the ep3 however is practically competing with a base rsx 😂
The youngster in me loved this car. I met younger adults (Gen Z/A)who also love this car many whom would’ve like to own this car themselves. It’s very unfortunate Honda/Acura is no longer producing this 2 door coupe RSX. Even the current Integra is NOT available in a 2 door coupe otherwise I would’ve bought one. Technically I wouldn’t consider it a sports car rather a sports coupe. It’s a cool car for the cool kids.
I had an 04 type-s was my favorite car owned by a long shot. only problem it had 3rd gear syncro grindy issues, but i was way to poor and inexperienced to fix it, then someone tl'd it during winter, and insurance took it away. this is like 8 years ago. Seriously miss that honda.
It's funny that you would compare the driving experience to the Miata because I sold my NA8 for a 06 RSX Type S a few years ago and instantly regretted it. The bump steer was so bad on it and the handling was a huge downgrade compared to the Miata. I loved the K Serise engine and having a back seat but the FG2 Si was a way better car in my experience. Now I'm on my fourth Miata (NA8) and I couldn't be happier.... Unless it had a K Serise, then it would be the best of both worlds.
I've built a Honda Civic ex special edition coupe. Suspension, bolt on harness for stock seats, some aero body parts, wasn't bad, acceleration was okay enough. Felt like an RSX for about half the price, but without tuning potential. RSX is still more iconic.
I bought a 2003 Type S when i was 19, first car i bought all on my own with zero help. I got it with 81k miles and sold it seven years later with 220k miles. This car was perfect, with regular maintenance i had ZERO issues. I sold it after acquiring my s2000 but 3 years later i bought another first gen DC5 to pair with my s2000 again 😂
17x9 +35 is a better fit than +22. You’re going to have to run like -2 to -3 degrees of camber AND rolled/pulled fenders to make it fit, which sucks. You can fit +35 with a roll in the rear, and you don’t even have to touch the front
EP3 Si did not have an LSD, ask me how I know lol. It had a 5-speed with closer gears than the RSX base model. But the Type R EP3 and DC5 both did have the 6-speed with LSD.
Hate to be that guy, but none of the USDM EP3 02-05 Civic Si had a limited slip differential. Only the next generation, the 8th gen Civic Si, had them from factory. Please refer to the kseries transmission chart that is research-able by the same name. Also, there is no such thing as a "open lsd". Only open differential or limited slip differential. Otherwise, solid video.😅
As a previous Dc5 type S owner, I can confidently say the Type S is the only car I truly regret getting rid of. 306k on it, all vin matched and still ran like a top. I beat the brakes off that car every weekend and it just ate it up. Definitely a drivers car
I had a 4 speed auto DC4 for 2 years as my last car. I sold it to my friend because, long story short, there was an absolute STEAL of a deal on a Miata that came in to the shop I work at. The Miata is fun, don’t get me wrong, but I like the Integra WAY more. After this Miata goes, it’s DC5 time. For the most part, I hate the Honda community, but LOVE the cars
Plot twist I went from an 06 RSX Type S (still have it) to a BMW e92 M3 V8. (S65 is just two k20s slapped together in a V, has twice the displacement, twice the HP, twice the torque, and the same redline).
Ah man that Midori Green RSX in the beginning sounds so good! I have that video saved, because of the sound of the exhaust! 🥵 If you know please tell me what exhaust that is. Its been a couple of years since Steve has been online...😅

As a prior type S owner, I love this car. It was very sporty and easy to work on.
A wild Honda owner approaches
Alex read me like a book. I had an 02 5pd base RSX, spent around $5k - loved it, I’m 40 with 2 kids, and now I’m driving a MKV 😂
Honestly, if you want a DC5 and can get past the styling, the FG2 civic SI is the one you want. Its basically a DC5, K20z3 with the LSD

The EP3 only had an lsd in the JDM type R variant. Unfortunately not in the North America or Europe market
This is correct
He probably meant the 8th gen, which it has the electric power steering and lsd and got it missed up with the ep3.

18 x 9.5 +22 with a 215/35/18 tire
Make sure you have decent spring rate (20k at least)
(If you look up towards the strut some of the frame may hit tire just cut into fins and bang up like how they do with wide body’s in a way and paint for rust protection) will have you sitting pretty with bare minimum of -3°
You will barely rub on hard bumps and full turns 🤙🏽 loved my RSX miss it a bunch
Make sure you run bc extreme lows coils to avoid hitting axle and will most likely have to remove a collar or two (max that preload out to try to go even lower if you want too.) Do at your own risk but it worked for me 😂
Oh and use smaller spring especially if you want to avoid removing collars 😅
Had to get a new timing chain and clutch at 120k miles, power steering pump is also leaking, but other than that it's been an amazing car. And yes the taillight gasket must be replaced and watch for leaks into your trunk when it rains.
I have a mostly stock 02 type s and i love it. Bump steer is real but it's fun to drive and puts a smile on my face everytime i drive it. It's fun but slow for sure haha. My F150 is over a second faster 😂
This is crazy this video drops as I am looking for a rsx for a replacement for my CTE k swap em1 … wish they wouldn’t be so damn expensive
The comment about starting out with the RSX and going the s2000 route got me rolling cause I now own a FK8 CTR with two kids.
Base 5 speed is still a good platform to start on if you can do swaps yourself. K24 type S trans, and brakes, send it
Cover the rx8 next I sorta want one
The LS comment got me!!
One thing I'll say is the shifter box sucks and it's best if you can get it replaced with a short throw
the very first things i got within a month of getting my rsx is tailight gaskets and clutch slave cylinder
I had a 2002 base model 5 speed for 10 years, sold it in 2022 and still think about it from time to time lol.
Love the RSX. I own a CL tyse S 6MT. The RSX's larger, much heavier, V6 sibling.
It would AWESOME if you did one of these videos on an IS300
i got my rsx 03 160k miles stock for 2.5k
Back at it again with the useless info dump. Love it!
Thank you for making this 😎
Best time for honda engineering. I own an ep3 type R. Will never get rid of it! Always makes me smile and it's still a civic... edit then on top of the S is both civic R and integra R 😂.
N that clutch shit was an issues this summer lol. Thank God for the honda brothers in my life. We got it going n back on the road.
Love to see rsx getting luv 🤝🏾
Never got the DC5 Type R but... Acura DID sell the body kit separately... called the A spec package... I think it even came w/firmer springs/shocks...
I love my 06 Type S. Blaze orange metallic 🍊 stock and fun! Crushes my other cars in gas mileage as well! Durango RT 🐷 talon TSi awd on 🌽
Alex you have it confused the ep3 si did not in fact come with LSD the comparison that everyone brings up when rsx vs civic si is the 8th gen si as they are far more similar in just about everything (yes it’s not the same generation but they’re very close) the 8th gen si also came with the k20z3 same hp as the rsx but had far superior handling to due to better suspension components and the factory LSD it also weighed almost the same as the rsx hence the rivalry between the two the ep3 however is practically competing with a base rsx 😂
I had a dc5 and loved it i wish i had it but had to sell it due to the rust of it
The youngster in me loved this car. It’s a cool car for the cool kids.
my first car! couldnt have chosen a better one :)
I wanted a DC5, I compromised.... so I got myself a 7th gen celica instead
Shoutout Eau Claire!!
Loved my 03 RSX-S over my 15 focus ST3
I bought a 2003 Type S when i was 19, first car i bought all on my own with zero help. I got it with 81k miles and sold it seven years later with 220k miles. This car was perfect, with regular maintenance i had ZERO issues. I sold it after acquiring my s2000 but 3 years later i bought another first gen DC5 to pair with my s2000 again 😂
Please do the CU2 tsx 2ed gen TSX
Yes!!!! I have a special edition cu2
Can you do the dc2 integra? Cs they're really cool
The other night I thought I was driving up to an R32, but it was only a zenki RSX.
You should do 20min 1st gen TSX
More Dc5 content nowwww! 😊
Can you do one on the MR2
Begging for one of these on the mk7 gti! I picked one up a while ago and I’m still figuring stuff out about it.
2002-2005 Honda civic SI did not have a limited slip differential. The US produced the next generation (2006-2011) civic si’s with a LSD.
I have owned a rsx since i was 17, i’m 21 and owned 1 base and have 2 typeS currently.
Plot twist I went from an 06 RSX Type S (still have it) to a BMW e92 M3 V8. (S65 is just two k20s slapped together in a V, has twice the displacement, twice the HP, twice the torque, and the same redline).
Focus ST please 👍
Ah man that Midori Green RSX in the beginning sounds so good! I have that video saved, because of the sound of the exhaust! 🥵
If you know please tell me what exhaust that is. Its been a couple of years since Steve has been online...😅
Can you do a video on the Toyota Crown Brother man
shout out to my fellow DC5 owners
Please talk about the Toyota Celica. Tell us how far we can take it in mods..
Usdm ep3s and dc5s came with open diffs
