In the time that you have owned your z I've had a e92 M3 , e36 coupe, E46 330i manual transmission, e90 330i manual sport package. 2 300zx's 1 zenki sr20 swapped s14, and now I'm in a 2003 base manual trans z tein coilovers flow formed wheels and greddy exhaust. All that to say the Z is not going anywhere ever. All the other shit wasn't worth the headaches or just didn't make me happy the way the Z does. Don't come at me BMW folk.. my wife's car is a e93 manual trans n54 . I do ALL the maintenance on it. Fuk that car.. but she loves it so it's staying.
ive owned my de for about 15 years and pretty much close to stock since it was my daily. i was lucky with not having oil burning being a problem but, i have suffered from horrible thermostats. i would say either get a dealership replacement not a parts store one, or if you do get a parts store one remove the spring and just run an open thermostat. the bleeder valve for the coolant that sits behind the engine is prone to cracking which can bring air into your coolant lines, Z1 sells a stainless steel one, mine has done me right for years. besides an upgraded cold air intake look into getting an upper plenum spacer for better airflow to the rear cylinders for a better lifespan. and eventually weather its DE or HR your camshaft position sensors will go out, Hitachi replacement, dont go off brand dont look for a deal take the hit and save yourself a lot of headache. i hope this helps someone out there
I daily a 350z GT4 (revup) for the last 5 years. Had quite a few cars. Even another standard 350z De. Prefer the GT4 over the DE I just need to add a cup of oil every 2 weeks which isn't hard work in the grand scheme of things and have an extra 20bhp which it needed. Standard intake with aftermarket filter is best from experience. Not worth really messing about or spending monies unless you going all in and doing turbo or charger. Had the usual little extras then went back to stock and don't feel a thing daily. It's a pleasure and a treat to drive :) Always get loads of love everywhere I go from enthusiasts. Life is too short to not drive a Zed. Anybody thinking of it just do it!
Always wanted one back in 2008 as a kid. Finally got one 2 years ago. She's a little beat up, but she's a neck breaker for some reason and I love her for it. Original owner drifted her into a ditch and abandoned her.
As much hate it gets, I am in love of the 350Z Roadster. Not only that, a DE. And I own 2 currently. Reliable engine, great driving experience. I love the analog feeling of my Z.
05 and 06 Manuals have a de revup it has variable valve time on the exhaust and intake makes 300hp and has a different intake manifold with shorter runners and a higher rev limit i wish everyone would stop forgetting about the rev up
For the Rocket Bunny folks that don't want to spend a ton of money, Kubota has the same hub bore diameter so tractor spacers work will help get a solid fitment, but my spacers are longer than my life expectancy so this might not be the best advice hahaha
Depending on your goals of your build, and the quality of parts installed, low mileage over stock would be my preference. You can save a lot of money and time, if you find a well sorted build. You can always personalize it to your taste afterwards.
The VQs get a bad rep because of street takeovers, if you remove all of that content, there's actually nothing bad about the car. Takeovers VQ owners don't do maintenance, care about sound or care about the car. The common stereotype for a VQ is purely social media showing us the worst case possible. People often compare 90s engines to VQs, but honestly there's going to be none left soon, so people will snatch up the next affordable thing....VQs.... I own two VQ's that both have over 220,000km each, one is my daily and one is my weekender. America is the only country where VQ's are treated like junk, they are respected everywhere else, like Australia.

i managed to get a base model 2005 350z with 160k miles om body, 100k on motor, and 60k on trans for $4,300. it had a few issues like exhaust leak and whatnot that i managed to fox with a few hundred bucks. been driving it every day for over a month no problems and i couldn’t be happier
love this video! i want to learn more about the revup de, still haven’t seen much videos going in depth on the revup de since it is different than the regular de
It'd be really cool if you guys talked about the Accord. There's some genuinely cool models like all the V6 MTs, the EU exclusive Type R, the two JDM exclusive EuroRs (I own the 2nd gen EuroR, dope car) and the Si-R
The de/hr debate has been going on since these cars came out, both can be reliable if you look after them my de haven't gone through any oil since 7 years of ownership, btw it's always the hr boys make a big deal about owning a hr they really feel proud of that exsta 20hp most owners dont care what trim you got at the end its still a Z enjoy it
Have you driven both? ...dyno'ed both? I bought a stock 06 GT (5AT) coupe in the Fall of 2013, went FBO in 2017-18 (Admin 3.5" intake, 75mm NWP TB, Skunk2 5/8" spacer - no strut bar, DC headers, Stillen HFC, Borla TD catback & Uprev tune / 7,000 RPM redline, 281 RWHP on DynoDynamics roller dyno) and ultimately brought down the stock 14.64 quarter ET to 14.08 @ 99.5 mph. That's 40-50 RWHP over stock, which baselined on a hub dyno back in 2016 when I had an Injen CAI & Borla TD only. Since Aug 2021 I drive a stock HR roadster (5AT) still in GT trim with the Brembos, and this thing has more go than I ever had in the old modded coupe on backroads. The track here at Luskville won't let us run roadsters with no roll bars, but I'm 99% sure it runs faster than my old FBO DE - while being heavier at 3560 lbs (ish). All I have is aFe filters up front, lighter/wider wheels than stock all around, no spare, brake master cyl brace & stainless brake lines. The HR's bottom end is significantly stronger than the DE's, and HRs rev to 8,000 RPM if/when tuned. The only thing the old coupe did (much) better is hooning around at low speeds... I had solid diff bushings, Eibach sways set on stiff (re: couldn't run the strut bar) and RaysV2's wrapped in Michelin PS4S back then.
So many used parts on marketplace for 350z/G35. I see about 10-15 cars being parted out every year in the Bay Area/Central Valley; they're going to be limited just like the 240sx in the future. You can buy a Drift-ready 350z for $4-7K range.

For 350Z HR: PPE Engineering equal-length racing headers w/ Merge Collectors and black ceramic coating ($2410) AAM Competition 2.5" true-dual exhaust (gonna have to cut out the mufflers and weld in 2.5-inch T-304 pipe)

You can get it to around 51% so close enough.
And the 86/BRZ
