    This is literally some of the most concise information with actionable advice to take to grow a following. Best of all it, it helps keep things in perspective. At the end of the day it's about the listeners and how we can provide THEM value. As artists if our fans win. We win. Thanks Jesse!

    Appreciate the insight as always, Jesse. I just launched a tik tok for my band last week and I’m still learning the platform. I’ve never used tik tok before launching it for my band, so any and all information helps.
    After interacting with our fans for years, a lot of my fans don’t use social media and especially aren’t on tik tok so this really feels like a “from the ground up” build. One of the major (personal) issues I feel on tik tok is that I’m fairly introverted when it comes to posting videos on social media, so this platform is going to take some personal fear conquering lol.
    That said, loved some of the ideas you shared that doesn’t require you to character act or act ridiculous! The idea about providing insights about other larger bands within the genre is a great idea.

    Long videos are the exception to the rule but they CAN work. One of my most-viewed tiktoks (nearly a million views) is a 2 minute 45 second long video. But when I posted that one, my other videos were already doing good in the algorithm. I had over 20k followers who liked me for a hyper-specific niche. And the long video was about something I knew a lot about in that niche, that not many other people were talking about. (And I've been a wannabe-youtuber for years so I know how to present to camera.) Long videos are ok as long as the whole thing is entertaining. It can't slow down for even half a second.

    Thanks for great content here. I'm a little confused by the hashtag section-- you alluded to shorter hashtag chains sometimes being better, but then said to use two genre hashes (poppunk / punkpop) when that's applicable, because it may be easier to surface on the one with smaller numbers? Not to make you write some blog post here or anything, but at some point it might be cool to hear a more in depth analysis of the tradeoffs between economy and covering all bases. Thank you.

    On an unrelated note: It'd help if you made a video about when (as an artist) you should begin to charge for your work and how to approach artist in your local scene to convince them to collaborate. To give you some background, I am in the process of looking up local artist to work with (as per your suggestion) however, I keep running into people who objectively (for one reason or another) Shouldn't be charging to work, but they are insisting on it! I only have 21 monthly listeners atm (up from 2) but one of the people i've reached out to literally only has about double the monthly listeners and is insisting on charging me for a feature or a beat even though I specifically asked to collaborate on an track instead.
    Should I be preparing a "collab" or "feature" before I even speak to these people, or is there something else I'm doing wrong? Also, should small artist even be trying to charge for work when they're as unknown as I am? I'll be looking out for your response!!!!

      All the people who put the cart before the horse are at a disadvantage. It’s important to get signed agreements on how royalties work but create opportunities don’t put walls in front of them that’s really the key. Eventually people will write you offering crazy money without you asking then you know what your value is

    Since you seem to know a lot on this subject - perhaps you can help me out on this dilemna I am encountering. I first post an Instrumental version of my song with a Vizy video. After a period of time I post a vocal version of the same song. On the short reels that I post on IG and Tik Tok I have no problems - but on the full versions my audio track is muted on both IG and Tik Tok citing copyright claims and violation. IG states "possible" copyright violation, and TIK TOK states that there has been a copyright claim on that video. IT IS 100% my song and video, and I own 100% of the rights to it. There is no way of contacting TIK TOK or disputing the claim. I don't even know where the claim is coming from. If you can help me solve this, I will be eternally grateful.

    I don't have the stats to back this claim up but TikTok feels more like a "recorded w my cellphone" kinda thing. Instagram feels more polished at the moment. Like IG is a more clean/idealized version of yourself. Tiktok is your raw, goofy self. No autotune, no EQ, no DAW even. Just an instrument and your raw voice. It kinda feels that way. It makes sense that its Gen Z platform because its just a voyeuristic type of app where u have a raw peak of people. So. Lets say u record videos on your DSLR for TikTok...they will just feel "too polished" in a sense. Like you're not making yourself as raw and vulnerable as the other artists in the platform. Idk. Just my two cents. Can't prove it thought. Just a general feeling I get. Millenials love IG cause they can still hide behind the polished facade.

    • @Musformation
      @Musformation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is right but what’s also correct is that there’s tons of videos on the most popular page with a DSLR what it really is about is content and the vibe matter way more than all else. No one cares when I use a DSLR cause they’re not they’re to look at me they’re there to listen to me. When too turnt Tony uses a DSLR they do t care cause it’s the content

    • @martinlynn5559
      @martinlynn5559 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It straight up is not. A lot of content that does well may use a phone camera, but it's usually a high quality one. It may often be shot by another person. There's usually a lot of interesting stuff going on. A fair amount of it is staged. While it feels organic and homemade, a large amount of planning goes into most videos. Not all, but most.
