They're running in the Improved Production series, from Australia. It's a support series for the V8 Supercars, but in all honesty, I'd go for these guys over the big names. They're real cars sold in a showroom for street use, not tube frame chassis with a body that looks vaguely like the car name plastered on it somewhere.
Set up right, which clearly this is, the solid axle is less a problem than you might think... (I raced a AE86 for more than 20 years). Was a great little car.
solid axle is more predictable than trailing arms, easier to drift as the tyres stay parallel to the road in vaying conditions. Trailing arms and wishbones can change camber suddenly if unloaded in a bend and unexpectedly reduce grip, resulting in uncatchable oversteer. Cornering hard on the street and touching a patch of leaves will cause a crash. I know people who have changed to a solid axle from wishbone for that reason, as predictability gives confidence which allows you to push harder. Having said all that, independant suspension well set up, will ultimately give greater traction on track.
Had an AE86 two decades ago now own a 86 E30 wide body and it’s a big difference in performance having independent suspension for track. Miss my hachi, but luv my E30 😎 both great cars.

@@chrisvei6293 Hi Chris. Rules vary a little between Pre 1986 (Early Model) and post 1986 (Late Model) I think the AE68 is Early Model and the E30 Late Model. Early Model have more restrictions with aero and smaller rim/tyre size. But can run flares and have no weight limits even with an engine change to a different engine, but engine must be from the same manufacturer and same cylinders/configuration, turbo with 36mm intake restrictor can be added. Late Model have more aero and larger rims, but cant have flares. Late Model also are usually heavier as the new cars are generally heavier. You can change the engine to a different type so long as its the same manufacturer and configuration, turbo can not be added if it wasn't factory fitted in the car. If you change the engine you have a minimum weight to adhere to. All Improved Production cars must run factory suspension arms with rubber/nolothane bushes (No heim joints). Must have factory panels, doors and so on. Must have glass (No lexan) and all windows must go up and down as per factory. The dash and plastic surrounds must be in place. Gearbox is free so long as its no more than 6 speed and H pattern, dog box are allowed. The rules allow for close racing with cars that have strengths and weaknesses in different areas.

Idk much about 86s but maybe this one has different suspension since it looked pretty heavily modified. Otherwise it’s probably just lightness and bravery letting it keep up with the E30.
The AE is still competing in the South Australian IPRA Championship and we believe will most likely to compete in the next IPRA Nationals scheduled for QLD in 2022.

There are a lot of positives that the E30 brings to the table as a drivers car!
That was very entertaining! Nice sounds.
The 'Perfect Mix!'...
Bmw driver knows best traction line in that long right hander. Brilliant racing, both drivers.
My uncle had it before I was born but he had an ae86 trueno my mom told me about it and she said it was a beautiful car to just look at
that e30 looks sooo cool
Ae86 definitely has the speed advantage, but bmws braking and handling is clearly better. But only marginally to close the gap on a corner
In swedish rallycross they use to put a rigid rear axle from Volvo on the M3 E30s..
