You are correct @jpmnky and I've been a fan for over 60 years. You stole my thunder, but it's cool that we saw the same thing. I was thinking about a comparison and couldn't really come up with another QB. I think I've come up with a comparable athlete, though you'll have to stretch your imagination a little bit and go with a different sport...Fred Couples. Both could launch missiles with a slow, almost effortless delivery. They looked artistic...almost lazy. Both were cool under pressure and are Hall of Famers. Both are underrated and each remained competitive longer than their peers.

Your comment reminded of something Chris Carter (who played with Moon in Minnesota) once said. He was talking about how great QBs throw a ball that “communicates” to the receiver what’s ahead of them in terms of defense. For example, a ball thrown way ahead says, “if you run fast enough to catch this, you’ll have a TD since there’s no safety back there,” or “you can take three steps after you catch this, but brace yourself for a hit after that.” He then said of Moon, “ He didn’t just throw a ball that talked to you; he threw a ball that sung to you.”

I consider him the be the second best quarterback to never win a Super Bowl. Watching him run the Oilers Run & Shoot offense during the early 90s is the first time I realized there were different offensive systems. Warren Moon ran the 'RnS' offense so well that I concluded it must be the superior offensive system in the NFL. I even remember arguing with my elementary school friends that my favorite team should use it even though my favorite team just won the most recent S/B. I eventually changed my mind gradually ► over the next ~18 months I learned/realized two key facts: (1) the 'RnS' requires exceptional QB play to successfully run that offense in the NFL, and (2) Mark Rypien was not Warren Moon.
Looking back on it later, I honestly don't think any of his contemporary QB's could have run that Oiler offense as successfully as Warren Moon.

Casual fans generally remember 3-5 of the best players from each position per decade. For instance 80's RB's would be Dickerson, Simpson, Payton, Dorset and Allen. For QB's it's Montana, Elway, Marino, and the rest. I personally think Moon should be up there too but a lot of people will lump him in with overrated QB's of the time like Esiason for the 4-5 spot or another HOFer like Fouts who you could also argue was overrated.

Warren Moon is absolutely an all-time great in my eyes. This man went through playing at the University of Washington to being undrafted. The NFL was being jerks by telling him to switch positions, so he showed the league how to play the quarterback position. The NFL had a very few black quarterbacks at that time. He had a cannon arm for a quarterback, so he used his strong arm mechanics for throwing the ball in the air. He played in the CFL before going to the NFL. He was a leader, a great player, and a great man for a Hall of Fame player.🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈

I was impressed but never expected to see him in the CFL. When it happened most Canadians had never heard of him even though he was a standout at U of Washington. The CFL which has a wider field by 15 yards than the NFL’s, was Taylor made for him as evidenced by his passing records and Grey Cup wins. It was so great to see him excel in the NFL as he was very respected by Canadian fans.

If Al Davis had acquired Moon we could have built a dynasty with the weapons we had on both sides of the ball; he'd have been the perfect replacement for Jim Plunkett.

Eagles fan here, I still have the SI issue of him as thr Ultimate Weapon. Looked but took hits (look at sack totals 85/86 where he and Jaworski were getting pounded, he was tall, and even though his delivery was l longer, he looked effortless with that whip easily 60-70 maybe more in the air

Hang on. Go check out Fran tarkenton from the '60s. He was the first mobile quarterback.

    • @neverfallnewsmedia
      @neverfallnewsmedia 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@nojustno242 Yeah I'm not saying Fran wasn't great.
He is more like Romo than Lamar Jackson.
      A scrambler isn't really a runner.
RC12 scored more rushing TDs and had 1,000+ more rushing yards than Fran in less seasons.
Fran was a passer, Randall was the 1st, 2 way threat.
I mean fran had under 4,000 rushing yards and Randall was closer to 5,000 in less seasons.
This is more than 20% better output on the ground.
Tack on RC12s more TDs than Fran on the ground, in less time, then you have the 1st real 2 way threat in RC12.

Only the idiots that didn't draft him out of college! Because he was a Black QB! Need to watch this! Anyone who watched CFL & NFL Football during the 80's already knew! He had the best long ball of any of the so-called great passers! I'm still pissed about the Chicago Bears not drafting him or even giving him a workout! Any idiots would've seen his unique passing skills! Especially hitting a receiver on the run in full stride! Moving to Houston in the Late 70's I had a front row seat! The Oilers should've won at least two Superbowls! Good passing game! Running the ball now so much! Warren Moon was a Fantastic NFL QB! No matter what the color!

That he was able to then kick arse in the NFL after, is a huge testament to his ability. IWith slight;y better teams, my gooodness, who knows how many rings he'd have.
