    Second! Fabulous video, specially for me, a loafer guy. The museum calf one and the pebble grain one are stunning! So versatile and classic. Have to say beside the routine high-end RTW, I really appreciate the time JOHN LOBB craftsmen took to shape the top line inwards by hammering the top line into shape and modeling the rear quarter upper, lining and puff onto the shape of the last. Difficult work I presume, correct me if I am wrong Kirby!

    Hi Kirby, I found your videos whilst searching for leather shoe care and they have proven to be invaluable! Would it be possible for you to do a video on the cleaning and care of satin shoes? I realise this is more applicable to women's shoes, but it would be incredibly helpful to all us women who watch your videos too!

    Good video Kirby. Enjoyed the same but different Paris/London explanation. Levels of casual was a good visual. Black Calfskin looks like a great choice for a more affordable Lobb at this time.

    Thanks Kirby, Liked the first four, the Suede in black was not my cup of tea but maybe, like yourself, I'd come to appreciate. Could you give me/us your take/opinion on putting neoprene, rubber, steel cleats on the heel and or toe of dress/casual shoes? If you already answered this in an earlier episode I'm sorry I missed it. Tom G

      Toe taps acceptable if done correctly. Anything on the heel is dangerous.

    Very nice shoes! Well except for the last one. I definitely love the first 3! The 4th one is the best example of a rubber sole done right on a dress shoe. Where as the 5th one is a rubber sole done wrong. It looks like the sole of a work boot. But that's just my opinion.

      The LWS sole is an interesting shoe for sure.

    Very nice, in-depth review Kirby, thank you. I have to say though, from some of the close up shots on the video, the finishing standard seems to be a notch or two below what you could expect on John Lobb. I noticed similar finishinh short comings the last time I saw their RTW shoes at Isetan in Tokyo. Have you noticed the quality drop over the last 3 years or so?

    • @kirbyallison
      @kirbyallison  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Finishing seemed good to me. We didn’t polish the shoes, which might have helped. What specifically did you notice?

    • @affanmobile1974
      @affanmobile1974 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kirbyallison my apologies for the late reply. It was the sole finishing and edge finishing that I was particularly thinking of. Also the shape of the feather edge was not as well pronounced as their shoes from the past I thought. All in all, the Northampton shoemakers still makes some great shoes, and I draw a whole lot of inspiration from them, but I suppose with the improvement in quality and detailing of the mid rangers, the added value you get at the top(for Ready to wear) seems to be diminishing in my humble opinion.

    2 aspects about these shoes are not like most high end shoes:
    1. The waist of the sole is very wide
    2. The outsole isn't chamfered
    For me, they made the shoe look more cumbersome rather than elegant.
    Especially the last pair's colossal sole... I wouldn't buy shoe like this for 1400$. Lightly overpieced gucci shoes at 600-700$ would be a better deal for me.

    John Lobb Paris are just cheap factory made shoes; very cheaply made. John Lobb Bespoke (opened by the Lobb family) is a 100 times different and better. Purchase Edward Green in their stead.

      Depends on what the loafer is. But I do agree that an oxford looks better with a suit than loafer when comparing the two. There are plenty of loafers that actually do look great with a suit!
